Welcome back everybody! Hope you enjoyed the first book, and the second will be here soon, but first let's find out more about the characters. This mini book will explore the pasts of several characters and give you more insight on events that weren't shown in the first book. These short stories are canon to my storyline and did take place, so everything you read is true to the story and important to the main plot.
Alright, let's respond to some reviews.
Shadowhunter2077: "This final was very good, the denial of Matt over the fact that Ouranos was not down yet is something very easy to underst
and when everything is looking good comes this bomb to him, but I'm happy that he didn't do the same thing Percy did in the canon of wanting a normal life even with the war against Kronos coming"
Response: Thanks. And yeah, he got everything he wanted and lost it in an instant, which sucks for Matt. Stay tuned though, it might get better, who knows.
firefrog600: "almost done reading this its great but I should stop or I wont be able to enjoy the rest tomorrow as I'll have to little left too read.
So are there any other pantheons we could see in this story?
Is the mc at all interested in learning a little magic even if only rudimentary stuff like jedi mind trick or some kind of healing spell though honestly it probably wouldn't be as useful as ambrosia.
Anyways great read I really enjoyed it and really really hope you don't drop it in the coming months a lot of fics I read are dropped just as I find them or start updating far more slowly."
Response: Thanks, glad you like the story so far. And yes, I will include Norse and Shinto pantheons at some point, although I have to do some research on them. And no on the magic. I'm sorry, but if he does learn any magic it won't be anything major. I don't plan on slowing down my updates or stopping the story altogether, so expect this story to go on until it ends.
NiHaR OP: "Wowowowoowwo epic chap bro I kinda expected ouranos not dying. But Defeating anything or any1 seems cool. Man Hercules's Eagle was cool as hell."
Response: Thanks man, and yeah, Kyros is pretty sick. Writing scenes with him is fun.
thesuperone342: "Bro, this is awesome. Best ending to a FanFiction I've ever seen. I don't even think that I have words for how good this is. Absolutely god tier. Matt training with Hercules, the Stormbringers, the visions. And oh man, Harper is going to be so fucking pissed lol. Anyway, can't wait for your next book and the continuation of Matt's journey."
Response: Thanks man, means a lot. And yes, she will be pissed lol, just read this chapter.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters (except the OC's) Percy Jackson & The Olympians, Heroes Of Olympus, or Trials Of Apollo. All of that belongs to Rick Riordan.
This chapter takes place the morning after Matt leaves with Hercules. In Harper's perspective, we see her reaction to finding him gone from Camp.
Book One and a Half: The Demigod Chronicles
1. The Disappearance - Harper's POV
For years, waking up in Camp resulted in a groan or drowsiness from the night's visions.
I'd been so used to seeking revenge and focusing only on myself, that I had long forgotten the feeling of true happiness.
Well, waking up right now, the morning sunlight glowing through the cabin windows, I was happy, the happiest I had ever been.
Why you may ask? A single name can answer that for you.
Matt Beckett.
I know you already heard his side of the story, and you got to see just how dense he was at my advances. I'll admit, when he first came to camp and I tackled him and stuff, I immediately noticed his good looks. I bet when he told the story of the quest, he was constantly unaware of just how hot he was right? Yeah, I thought so. Well, let me give you a girl's insight on the Son of Hercules.
He's gorgeous.
Enough said. That soft brown hair, those intense yet gentle eyes, his handsome face, that small scar on his jaw, the way his muscles move when fighting. Gods, his muscles alone are enough to drive me nuts. You see what he's done to me? He's turned me into a regular high school girl!
I love it.
I opened my eyes and wiped any residue from them. I was feeling surprisingly good waking up, stretching my arms and noticing my other cabin mates still asleep. Wow, it must be before eight for them not to be up. Usually Aiden is in the training arena with his sword at the crack of dawn. But no, across from me he lay in his bed, fast asleep.
I decided to take this chance to go sneak in the Hercules cabin and wake up Matt.
My new boyfriend.
I felt a rush of adrenaline at the fact that we were dating now. Yesterday evening was amazing, one of the best moments of my life. The sunset was perfect, the words he said melted my heart, the kiss...gods, that was incredible. I had wanted to cuddle with him all night, but as you probably already know, the goofy idiot decided to tickle me without warning, ruining the fun. Either way, I couldn't help but feel giddy at the new situation. Everything was perfect, and although...my brother died, I still have a certain Shark Boy to cheer me up.
I got up from the bed, still in my pajamas and no doubt looking like a zombie. I changed clothes as quietly as I could, putting on my usual dark clothing, which included ripped jeans, a short leather jacket, a tank top, and combat boots. I took a quick peek in the mirror to assess the damage, I was surprised to see that I looked decent, but not good enough. So I straightened my hair, put on new black lipstick and eyeliner, and examined whether or not I looked good. This was all so new, trying to decide what Matt would like, trying to look good for him. It was so unlike me. I never cared before what anyone thought of me, let alone how I looked. But now...
I groaned, he won't care. He'll cut me some slack due to it being so early in the morning, and to be honest I couldn't stay in here forever. I figured if it was as early as I thought, we could get a good start to the day by resuming our cuddle session for another half hour or so, then spend the day together. Now that the war with Ouranos was over, we could pretty much do whatever we wanted. I was beyond relieved, but also mournful, obviously because of my brother.
I don't want to even mention the traitor. If I think about it it'll ruin the day. No, focus on Matt.
I tiptoed out of the cabin, emerging into the chilly morning air, the sun barely above the ground line, peeking through the trees. A morning fog seeped from the lake, sitting there like small gray clouds. Wow, it was really early. There was nobody outside right now, not a single soul walking around the Camp, not even Chiron could be seen. I smiled like a kid, I would take advantage of this.
I ran over to his cabin with stealth. Training your legs everyday gives you the advantage of knowing how to make every step soundless, like a bug on the grass instead of a human. You guys are so used to witnessing super strength and red auras that you didn't even think about my speed and stealth, huh? Well things have changed, it's Harper time.
Like I was saying, I ran over to Matt's cabin and stopped at the door, hesitating to knock on it. I thought about what I would do or even say. Conversations between us came naturally, but this was a relationship now, and I'm not exactly an expert on this stuff. I exhaled, deciding to just wing it and play off of whatever he says.
I was about to knock on the door gently when out of the corner of my eye I noticed large animal tracks, they were about fifteen feet away from the entrance, and they were...clawed? Seriously, whatever had been here had giant claws, or talons?
I shook it off as just another weird occurrence in this life. It wasn't the strangest thing. It was probably just some creature that got lost, or one of the Stoll's pranks.
I knocked on the door lightly, which was stupid, since I know for a fact Matt is a heavy sleeper. But maybe today he would hear.
He did not.
Ugh, the idiot was sound asleep. I allowed a grin to form across my face imagining his sleeping form, that cute face, the way his chiseled chest moves in unison with his breathing. Thinking about that, I remembered that just a few hours ago I laid on that chiseled chest, his arm around me, us gazing at the stars together. A blush crept up my neck as I remembered the feel of his arms around me, my body pressed close to his, our lips pressed together, it was all so surreal and amazing.
With these memories fresh, I gained a boost of confidence and just decided to open the door. It swung open, creaking a little and stopped about halfway. I stepped into the manly cabin. Nearly snickering to myself at the sight of bear and lion fur on the wall, the statue of his dad front and center, thank Olympus not naked. I hated when they made statues like that. I mean really, nobody wants to see godly junk.
I kept a smile on my face, excited to see him, but when I glanced at the bed, prepared to see Matt asleep, hopefully shirtless, I was instead greeted with an open cover bed, slightly messy sheets underneath...and no Matt.
Immediately my smile faded, my facial expression probably that of confusion. I walked to the bed and felt it, still warm, and his scent was still lingering, so that meant he hadn't been gone for long. It was probably nothing, just him getting up early for a morning workout. That was it! Yep, he loved to workout. Maybe he was training with that new club of his. I assured myself that was the case, and walked out of the cabin, making my way to the training arena.
When I entered the circular structure, my heart sank. He wasn't in here either. Okay...now this was getting weird. Where else could he be? Was he playing some kind of joke on me? If so, it wasn't funny. I was starting to get a little worried.
I decided to ask Aiden, who was the last person besides me to see him. Within seconds, I was back at my cabin, and at Aiden's bedside. I shook him awake, to which he replied with a shove to my face and a groan.
I rolled my eyes and smacked him on the head. "Get up!"
"Ngnnn, not now!" he replied under his pillow.
I grabbed him and forced him to face me, whisper yelling "This is serious, Aiden! I can't find Matt!"
That got his attention, he woke up and looked at me with concern.
"What? He wasn't in his cabin?"
I shook my head, "No. His bed was messy, and I checked the training arena...not there either."
Aiden sat up, worried as well now, "Oh gods. Okay, don't panic, we just need to look some more."
I nodded, "Right. He's here, he's probably just...busy or something." I said that last part hopefully.
We split up and searched the Camp quietly for a while, some campers now up and milling about, starting some activities.
Unfortunately to no avail, we didn't find him. We literally looked everywhere. I looked around the lake, the Pegasus stables, the pavilion, and pretty much every cabin, while Aiden looked in the forest, scaling it twice, and not finding anything.
I was beginning to panic now. Where the hell was he? The worst came into my head, he had been kidnapped, or killed and taken away. But that made no sense, the war was over, and any monster that tried to mess with him would be obliderated. So what happened?
After searching for another ten minutes, we decided to tell Percy and Annabeth. They were at the lake getting the canoes ready for campers.
They noticed us, Percy called out, "Oh, hey guys!"
Annabeth was better at reading people, she knew something was up. "Is something wrong?"
I nodded, "Matt's missing. We've looked everywhere but can't find him."
She saw worry etched on my face, and hers mirrored it. Her having gone through the same thing with Percy not very long ago. I heard what happened there...let's hope this isn't the case, because from what I can remember, Percy was gone for months at Camp Jupiter.
Percy now caught on, "Did you look in the forest?"
Aiden nodded, "Twice."
"Did he say something to you last night? Maybe a clue as to where he might've gone?" Annabeth asked.
I searched my brain for any hint that he had somewhere to go, and...nothing. From what I remember he never said anything about leaving. It was more on the lines of staying and us being together, that I was sure of.
I shook my head, "No, he didn't say anything like that."
Percy looked in the distance, "Okay, but let's not panic, we should ask around. Maybe someone else knows something?"
Annabeth nodded, although not convinced anyone would know anything, "He's right. Try Talon, he's good at tracking people."
That was right, I remembered the stupid assassin was a tracker also. If anyone could find Matt, he could do it.
Aiden looked at me with sympathy, "We'll ask around Camp, you talk to Talon."
I nodded, walking in the direction of the Zeus cabin, where Talon was staying with Malachi. I'm not even going to get into the fact that the Demi-Primordial was here at Camp Half-Blood. It felt so odd, but from what I could tell he was a nice guy, just...prone to possession maybe.
I knocked on the door, a few seconds passed before Malachi opened it. He was taller than Matt, but not as muscular, his arms were more lean and skinny, his hair looked like that of a surfer, medium length parted blonde, falling down both sides of his eyes, covering half of them. He looked a lot different now. As opposed to his getup with Ouranos, he now had on a navy colored hoodie and jeans.
"Oh, um...hello...Harper, right?"
"Yeah, is Talon here?"
He looked behind him, and called Talon to the door. He nodded at me awkwardly and stepped back inside, soon the assassin made his appearance in front of me, the usual scowl on his face.
"What?"
"I'm gonna get to the point, Matt's missing and we can't find him."
"Did you try his cabin?"
I groaned, "Of course idiot. This is serious, we've looked everywhere, and you're the only one that has major tracking experience, so find him!"
Talon studied me for a moment, then sighed, "Fine." He put on his signature sunglasses and I led him to the Hercules cabin.
Pointing at those strange tracks near the door, I said, "What kind of tracks are those?"
He bent down and stared at them for a while, touching them lightly with his hand. Eventually he turned his head to me and said, "Eagle tracks."
"What?"
"You heard me, eagle tracks."
I figured so, but still, "Those are huge!" I said.
He shrugged, "I realize that, but I'm telling you, these belong to a giant eagle. Whatever was here last night, was an eagle like monster that could fly, maybe it took Matt away."
"No. Matt wouldn't get captured by some eagle monster."
He stood up, looking around the area and out in the distance, "You'd be surprised at how sleep hinders you. The moment you wake up, there's a ten second period of drowsiness and light headedness. Any mortal experiences it, and if this monster was smart, it took Matt when he was stunned."
I didn't want to believe it. The guy that had resisted the River Lethe, defeated Cerberus and a hundred other monsters, fought Ouranos one on one, and he just got captured by some overgrown bird? No, it wasn't true.
"Well, what about when the ten seconds are over? Surely Matt fought back in the sky."
Talon nodded, "Sure. That's a possibility. I'm thinking this thing took him, he fought it and it dropped him in the ocean nearby."
My heart lifted a little, "So he's at the beach?"
Talon remained motionless, staring at the distant sand, "Maybe. But the other possibility, is that he just left."
"Just left?"
"Just left."
"B-but what the hell does that mean?!"
Talon sighed, "I know it's not what you want to hear. But it's likely that he left on his own will. The reasons, I have no idea. We've already ruled out that he's strong, so any monster that would try to kidnap him would be defeated, and even if there was a struggle, the other campers would have heard it. So that just leaves us with the chance that he just took off."
I was so confused, "B-but why would he leave?"
"I don't know. Maybe some solo quest that he didn't want you worrying about, so he just left in the middle of the night."
I could feel my heart splitting. No, no, no, I wouldn't allow it. Remain positive.
"But what about those eagle tracks?" I said, pointing at them.
That seemed to stump him a little, to which he just shrugged and said, "Not sure. Maybe his transportation. A gift from his father, a god in disguise or something?"
I threw my hands up, "You're the tracker, you tell me!"
He stepped closer, taking his sunglasses off, his eyes weren't hard, they were actually a little...sympathetic.
"I'm sorry Harper. But Matt...he ain't here. I'll keep looking for him though, that's all I can do." With that, he walked off back to the Zeus cabin, leaving me alone, registering the fact that he called me by name and not goth girl.
I didn't want to believe it. This couldn't be happening.
I refused to acknowledge that Matt was missing, I would not give up hope, he was just somewhere nearby, maybe he went to visit his mom or something. Or maybe he was just playing some dumb prank on me, yeah, that was it.
…
No it wasn't.
Deep down I knew that this was serious. But out of desperation, I ran down to the shore where we began our relationship yesterday, only to be greeted with the sandy plain, and the vast ocean.
I darted around, using my legs as best as I could to search with incredible speed, but instead found nothing.
He wasn't out here.
I stopped myself, frustration and bitterness boiling inside of me. I kicked the sandy ground. Why did he leave me? What the hell happened? Things were going so good, things were finally taking a turn...and now this.
It wasn't fair. None of it. First I lose my brother and now Matt?
I screamed in anger, which soon turned to sadness. I couldn't help it, I was so worried about him, and the awfulness about it, the fact that he could be gone forever, and we only got one night together as a couple.
I slumped on my rear and put my head in my hands, tears escaping my eyes.
Where is he?
Where is my Shark Boy?
In a yell of frustration, sadness, and pain, the words escaped me, "WHERE ARE YOU MATT?!"
The shout echoed across the beach, and no reply came.
