The Original and The Wizard
Chapter 3
Another Betrayal
AN: This story is a Harry Potter crossover with The Vampire Diaries, Twilight and whatever else may appear.
WARNINGS: This will be a somewhat very AU story. There will be time line changes of course, with location changes thrown in the mix too and at some stages, time jumps. That is the beauty of fan-fiction, you can change it to suit your own little twisted tale. There will be NO slash. This will be OOC.
I will be forthcoming with a heads up that my style of writing will be somewhat of a difference throughout my story from chapter to chapter, and even within them, as the progress of time changes throughout history.
Alas, it's also for the joys of being able to experiment in the world of fanfiction. Notwithstanding the fact that, I, obviously was not there in the ways of conversation back from a thousand years ago. But I purely wish to explore and play with it a little, if not; a lot.
Enter at your own risk!
And most importantly, I hope you enjoy the ride with me.
Pairings will develop throughout the story, but more in the later chapters than the earlier ones.

Early 11th Century – Early 1200 A.D
It had been 150 years that Niklaus, along with his siblings had been at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Not one had ever seen billowing robe, nor hair or hide of Salazar, and it was likely that no one ever would.
Niklaus often wondered if his once dear friend was still within the castle, hiding within his Secret Chamber, but alas, there was no way for any of them to know for certain. Niklaus had also occasionally pondered upon if he should mention to the remaining three of his friends, that it did indeed actually exist, as he was sure the remaining founders had heard whispered rumours from the Slytherin children over the years about knowing Salazar had created such a Secret Chamber.
He decided against it, as for one he had made a promise to his old friend, he also shan't see the point, as not one of them could get inside.
He wondered if the man had, or would eventually die down there. If that was indeed where he had disappeared to.
It was a sombre thought for Niklaus.
The student population had steadily grown over time and was now at full capacity, the founder's had the need unto hiring a few more teacher's for the numerous classes being taught, and had placed extension charms on their respective Houses over the years in order to fit more students in the future.
The little village not far from the castle too had grown in size over the last 150 years, within it now resembling more of a village than ever before. Consisting of only magical families and stores.
Kol had taken Salazar's place to be Potion's Master and Head of Slytherin upon the request of the remaining Three. And for as much enjoyment as it were to bestow upon the children the knowledge of the magical animals with Elijah, Niklaus had taken the post of Ancient Runes.
It had been hard at first on the remaining founder's to see their once dear friend depart, never to contact them again, but they eventually moved on. In part thanks to the growing school, and in part thanks to how it had ended between the four.
Godric had never forgot how his friend had turned his back on them, Rowena busied herself with her students and daughter. Helga had busied herself with giving better lives to any and all house-elves she would come across as she employed them at Hogwarts.
It had been equally hard for the Mikaelson's to watch over the years as the school changed, and their fellow teacher's and friends began to go grey with age. Becoming much older versions of themselves.
Except Rowena. After Helena ran away with her mother's diadem and was killed by a young man she had attended Hogwarts with, one whom had been obsessed with her. She had passed away not very long thereafter. It was more than likely due to a broken heart, as she had never been the same beyond it.
It was especially hard for Rebekah to watch the man she loved wither away. It was hard for her brother's to see such a young at heart and sweet dispositioned woman to become so withdrawn. Godric shan't allow her to change him.
They had one day, during a hunting trip, discovered that they had the ability to change a human into a Vampire. Niklaus had accidentally changed a young woman, as she tried to flee from him, she had been bitten by a snake, and so he proceeded, quite on instinct, to feed her his blood in order to heal her. He desired for his meal to be healthy.
Once he had finished feeding from her and after her death, he had been quite surprised to find her waking. He had been so intrigued he wanted to test what else he was capable of, and found he was able to compel her as if she were still human. His siblings had been equally as interested and decided to try it for themselves. Finding that it had worked the same for them as well.
Although it did not help them with their friends, as they desired to remain human.
With unwavering respect for the founder's, there was nought they could do.
There was something Niklaus had never forgotten but had decided, that one day when he was to leave the castle, he was going to have to talk to the founders about what they new about his heritage. It had bothered him at first, but Niklaus took a leaf out of his friends book and never brought it up. Niklaus is nothing if not patient and decided to build his friendships with the founders so as for them to feel comfortable in divulging whatever it was he wanted to know, he remembered the exchanged looks the four shared when they had first met, and knew they had known something.
As his time with them was coming to a close Niklaus decided it was now time to confront them about it.
"Would I be able to talk to you later, Godric?" Niklaus asked the man at dinner one evening.
"Of course, Lad!" He smiled. "Do you want to meet at my chambers when you are ready?" He asked, raising his greying eyebrows in question.
"Thank you, I shall see you after dinner if that is convenient for you?" Asked Niklaus returning the man's smile. Ignoring the inquisitive glances he received from his siblings. This was a conversation he was hoping to have alone with the man. He shall more than likely inform his family of his findings all the same. They will be told when he was ready.
"Sure as a Kneazle's purr!" He chuckled. Niklaus shook his head fondly with a smile. That was something Niklaus had learnt over the years, that Godric loved to use little phrases not many people would otherwise hear, nor understand.
Once Niklaus had finished dinner he wandered the dimly lit halls of Hogwarts aimlessly in order to give Godric a chance to reach his chambers and get settled in, before finding himself at the man's door not twenty minutes later.
Preparing himself for anything he may learn, Niklaus knocked on the door softly.
"Come in, Niklaus!" A happy voice called from within the room.
Niklaus slowly opened the door and made his way into the cosy room before quietly closing the door behind him. "Thank you for allowing me to disturb you this night, Godric." Niklaus said almost too formally. Godric looked over at him and raised a brow.
It felt to Niklaus it had been a very long time since he had been in Godric's chamber, when in truth it had become something akin to a ritual for one, several or all of the Mikaelson's to visit each of the founders within their chambers for a late kip every couple of weeks or so. The founders doing the same, as they would visit them in their chambers. Niklaus putting it down to being a tad bit at unease with the looming revelations of the conversation yet to be had. Niklaus awkwardly stood near the door as he was unsure of where to start.
"No need to be nervous, my son!" Godric chuckled, as he poured two golden goblets to the brim full of brandy. "Please have a seat." He offered, gesturing at the soft looking chair next the large fire.
With a nod, Niklaus looked over the softly lit room as he made his way to the offered chair. The room was rather spacious, the floor was covered in a large deep red rug. The walls covered in red gold tapestries, as well as some blues and bronze, yellows and blacks, with no silver and greens to be seen. Godric was fond of representing his friendships and accomplishments within his decorations, but after Salazar leaving, Godric had removed all trace of him within his chambers. He knew Godric felt betrayed and knew he did not want to be reminded of it every evening when he retired.
There were books scattered over table tops that were spaced throughout the large room. Niklaus took a seat when he reached the fire and looked up to see Godric watching him intently. Niklaus distracted himself by taking the goblet the man was holding out towards him. "You seem as though you have never looked upon my chambers before?! Your mind must be very far away indeed if you appear this distracted, or shall I dare say, this time in seriousness, nervous?" He asked kindly. Taking the chair opposite Niklaus.
Niklaus ignored his first question as he thought over the man's first response when he had entered the room. "You call me son? Yet I am as old as you are!" He said with a smirk instead. Taking a sip of his brandy before placing it upon the small table between them.
"Old habits, old age, madness!" He shrugged nonchalantly. "Who could say for sure." He chuckled quietly. "So what has you acting as skittish as a Mooncalf this evening?" He said with hidden mirth at his own jest.
Shaking his head for what felt the hundredth time, Niklaus gave the man an exasperated sigh. "I think with that little comparison you appear to already know!" He raised an eyebrow in question as he looked at the large, yet ageing man.
"I think I just may!" He answered solemnly. Nodding more to himself than Niklaus.
Niklaus took another sip of his drink and decided to keep it within his hand, rather than replace it back upon the table. He stared within the depths of the brandy trying to organise his thoughts and find the most appropriate place to start. "I remember when us Mikaelson's first met the four of you. You seemed to recognise our names, or at the very least, my true father, Ansel?!" Niklaus stated, looking up and boring his eyes into the man's green ones, just in time to see the green orbs flash briefly in recognition.
"We waited long for you to bring that up!" He answered with a sigh, suddenly looking his age.
"Likewise!" Niklaus replied calmly with a nod.
"We thought it best for you to approach us with regards of it, when you were ready! What took you so long?" Godric asked as he ran the tip of his finger along the rim of his goblet.
"I am a very patient man when I wish to be!" He answered with a small smirk. "In the beginning, I wished to get to know you all first, for you to be comfortable sharing your information with me, besides, there was no rush, it was obvious we would stay here for the foreseeable future when we arrived, and I resolved myself to ask you all when it approached us leaving." He admitted with some regret. Niklaus knew they could not stay there forever, but was hard pressed to find comfort in leaving.
"You are planning on leaving us?" Godric asked with no small amount of surprised sadness, as his brows drew together. "You can not possibly be leaving us so soon?" He said stubbornly, shaking his head in disbelief.
"So soon?" Niklaus chuckled. "We have been here 150 years already if you have failed to notice." He said, softening his features as he smiled at his long time friend.
"Exactly... so soon." He muttered sadly, staring into the flames flickering in the hearth.
Niklaus sighed, "No we do not plan to leave just yet, but you are no spring hatchling any more," He grinned as the man narrowed his eyes at the remark, "I admit, I feel time running away from us though, and decided now was as good a time as any." He finished, the unspoken words of his dear friend getting older, lingering in the air.
"Indeed." He said indignantly, "I am whiling away as you remain young enough to be my great grandson!" Godric huffed, in spite of the upturned corners of his lips.
"If that was to reason how old I am, it only pointed out how old you are my friend." Niklaus teased. "We can help with that as you know." He hinted with a raised eyebrow.
"No, I do not wish to become forever old." He said as he screwed up his face. "Now back to your first question." He smiled, as he not so subtly changed the direction of conversation once more.
"We only once met him personally, being that he was a magical creature, although we did not get into talking about his life, so we had only heard rumours! His pack lived local to here, near where Hogsmead is now. He and his pack had mostly kept to themselves, even on a full moon." He paused. Niklaus was watching him intently, patiently waiting for him to collect his thoughts.
"When we met you, we realised that the rumours must have been true." He continued. "We heard that he had a child with a powerful old Witch -"
" - Old witch?" Niklaus interrupted, "She was a young woman!" He assured. "How could that possibly confirm the rumours?"
"When we heard your name, we knew it to be the same Witch the rumours spoke of, as Ansel did not have any other child but one... that is to say, you!" He stated confidently, gesturing vaguely at Niklaus. "As you have learnt, being at this castle, about Merlin's time?" He asked. Niklaus could not fathom this question and wondered what it could possibly have to do with him.
"Yes." Niklaus answered slowly, his brow creased in confusion.
"Good!... It is told since long ago, and we Wizards and Witches know more about the truth of the past, than most other beings. That Morgana was in the end, Merlin and Arthur's enemy. But, she had a sister, one whom fell madly in love with Merlin. Merlin however, although he felt nothing but familiarity to the lady, never felt the same in return. She had never helped her sister with her plans, but she had never thwarted them either." He paused, his eyes distant in deep thought, as he absent-mindedly took a sip of his brandy. Briefly glancing over at Niklaus.
Niklaus was bemused at what this could possibly have to do with him and his family, but was giving Godric his undivided attention all the same, knowing that his friend had a point to his story. Even if Niklaus could not understand what it was. Unless...
With a sigh, Godric continued. "It is said that after Morgana had organised for the murder of Arthur, her own half brother, by Mordred. Merlin, not making it in time to save Arthur, had in the end killed Morgana in revenge and in order to save the kingdom! We all know the story of The Once and Future King, one day to return to the land! Merlin has been waiting over 500 hundred years for that day. We do not know where Morgana's sister, Esther," pausing briefly, Godric looked over at Niklaus once more as Niklaus' eyebrows shot up and his eyes widened in shocked recognition. "Had exactly fled to, but it was said she had fled north, as soon as the final battle was won by Arthur's Knights." Finished Godric, taking another sip of his drink. Niklaus could imagine how dry his mouth must be after that long tale.
Niklaus shook himself out of his stupor. "Are you trying to tell me that my mother... is the sister of Morgana?!" Niklaus said incredulously. He could not believe that. It was not possible. Although Wizards and Witches lived longer than muggle's, Niklaus could not believe they lived over 500 years. Although, it is clear Godric believes it. So perhaps there is a way. "How is that possible?" He said, shaking his head in disbelief.
"There are many different ways a Witch or Wizard can preserve themselves, most of them by very dark magic." He said with a solemn shake of his head. The light of the flames in the hearth flickering on the man's now greying mane, giving the impression of firelight dancing around his head. "Magic itself has chosen to give Merlin immortality, he was never in the need of doing dark magic to preserve himself, while awaiting his King. Esther however, had managed to preserve herself some how, as magic would not have chosen to preserve her."
"What makes you think it is the same Esther, that had one day met Ansel?" Niklaus asked narrowing his eyes at the man, still not willing to believe his mother was connected to Merlin's time.
"It was said the man Ansel had a son with a woman of the name of Esther, whom was married at the time and already bore children to her husband. There are portraits of her that had survived the centuries in many an old scroll from Merlin's time!" Godric assured calmly.
"Do you have any of these scrolls?" Niklaus asked dubiously.
"Indeed, I do love my history." Godric said with a mischievous smile as he got to his feet.
Walking over to a wooden cabinet, set against the far stone wall, before pulling out large handfuls of rolled up scrolls.
Niklaus silently watched the man with interest as a strange mix of anticipation and dread settled in his stomach.
Godric placed the scrolls on a large desk and began gently unrolling them in an attempt to find the one he was looking for. "Now, I do not have many of the ancient scrolls mind you. But I do have enough to know the history." He said distractedly. Godric was mindful to only unroll one at a time, glancing at it, before rolling it up again and setting them in a neat pile on a corner of the desk. "Ah, at last, here it is." He said cheerfully, before placing the remaining scrolls back into the cabinet.
Niklaus was unable to move, even if he wanted to, so decided it was best to wait for Godric to return to his chair.
Niklaus continued to watch as Godric strolled over, placing the opened scroll on the little table that sat between them as he sat back down.
Niklaus quietly leaned forward and looked intently at the scroll, seeing the young woman's face drawn upon it, flickering in the fire light. "May I?" Niklaus asked glancing up at Godric.
"Of course." Godric softly answered with a gentle smile.
With a nod to himself, Niklaus picked the parchment up and turned it to face the fire to get a better look, he could see clearly in the dark, but wanted to be absolutely sure. He studied the lines of the woman's face as he cast his memory back to his mother's features.
He could not believe his eyes.
Godric had been right.
It was the same woman.
"I can not believe it." Niklaus eventually said in a soft murmur. Godric had remained quiet the entire time, studying Niklaus as the man studied the portrait.
"I knew I could see a likeness to her the moment I laid eyes upon you and your family, only your words confirmed it, when you told us of your heritage." Godric stated quietly. Not wishing to disturb the peaceful quiet.
"Indeed..." Niklaus said with a small nod. "Thank you my friend." He said honestly, as he looked to the man with the utmost respect. "I am truly thankful to you." He shook his head in amazement. He was disturbed in knowing his mother was truly a menace, not just for him, but also for Merlin's time. He believed he had done the world a duty in forcing her to face her sins. He did not feel arrogant about it, only justified.
Knowing some of his heritage had felt like a weight had been lifted from his heart and mind. He was forever grateful that Godric had been willing to share his knowledge with him.
"Think nothing of it." Godric said with a half smile, waving away Niklaus' appreciation. "I know it meant a lot for you to know where you came from, it is not fair to have so many mysteries concerning your heritage, I am only glad that you finally felt ready to ask, and equally as glad that I was able to help you with it." He added kindly. His bright eyes shining with happiness.
Niklaus carefully placed the scroll back on the table and took a long drink of his brandy.
Godric returned the scroll back to the cabinet before rejoining Niklaus in drink and easy conversation that lasted well into the night, laughing and jesting in turn.
Niklaus knew in his unbeating heart, that he would always look upon that night with fondness for the rest of his immortal life as he spent the night laughing with his dear ageing friend.
The next day Niklaus had extracted a copy of the memory and placed it within a Pensieve in order to show his siblings.
To say they were astonished, Niklaus would say, was indeed a great understatement.
They were just as surprised as he.
It was decided amongst the siblings that they were going to stay until the very end. As hard as it was going to be, they would stay until the last founder met his or her peace.
Rebekah did not want to leave Godric, preferring to be there until his last breath. Nor did any of the other Mikaelson's really prefer to leave until they could say a proper goodbye to the last remaining of their only true friends they had ever known.
After they depart from Hogwarts, they had agreed in helping Niklaus find a way to not only break his curse, but to indeed help find more magical children to invite them to the magical school.
They wanted to keep the founder's legacy going, they wanted it to grow much more than what it had already done, they also wanted to keep the sentient castle alive and thriving.
It had been a very heartbreaking sight to witness, as Godric had taken his last breath, Rebekah felt it the most as she said goodbye to her first love.
Her name on his lips as his final word escaped him in a soft breath.
Helga had gone only a few short years before him, as they had all shared their goodbyes with her.
It really tore all of them inside as they slowly, one by one, had to say goodbye. Although they never really had the chance to say it to Salazar. That had still been painful.
They had all, including Godric, sat by Helga's side. Only to have to repeat it when they had sat by Godric's.
Holding tears that shall never be able to fall.
It was extremely hard to see Rebekah close in on herself, the Mikaelson's vowed to help her, getting her away from the castle, and the many years of happy memories, as soon as was possible. They knew her perfect memory would never let her forget. But they could only hope that removing her from the one place held so dear to all of them would help her to overcome her grief.
To remove her from the castle so she would not have to constantly walk the halls they walked together, sit at the large table they shared their meals at. The same classrooms they would often visit each other in, sometimes helping the other with classes if they were able.
There were too many memories for it to help her from dwelling on them when she would see constant reminders.
Godric had known what they had planned. He knew they would leave when he was gone. But he refused to replace them by hiring any new teacher's for their specified classes, obviously hoping they would change their minds, keeping it open for them just in case.
Niklaus, along with the rest of his family knew it was time however. They spent the next couple of months scouting for new trustworthy teacher's. They had found them in previous students who were not only loyal to the school, but the founder's that fulfilled their dreams.
They were once great students, and now great continuances of all that Hogwarts and the creatures residing there stood for.
The castle was in great hands, even if it was hard to let go.
But let go they shall, and let go they did.
At the very least, in part.
So over the next 50 years, that was indeed what they did.
They travelled the length of England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, looking for any magical children.
With Vampire senses it gave them an advantage, they were able to sense the presence of magic, especially now they knew, exactly what to look for. More so if it was either recent, or potent from long exposure to magic.
Niklaus had long since known what was required to break his curse, now it was just a matter of finding all ingredients needed to complete the task.
Niklaus and the rest of the Mikaelson's, would scout the towns that they visited, for any traces of gifted children, and necessary item's for the breaking of his curse.
It was after a long day of travelling that saw the Mikaelson's, except Finn, resting in a tavern in hopes of having a room for the night.
Finn had fallen behind, but had told his sibling's to keep going and he would meet them later.
Niklaus did not know what his brother was up to, but could not shake the feeling that he was up to something. Finn had become most temperamental with Niklaus over the last 50 years. Niklaus knew not why, but only speculated it may have something to do with having to constantly move from place to place.
It was something they had not gotten use to as of yet. They had been settled at Hogwarts for over 150 years, not having to worry about much of anything.
Now, however, they were going from town to town, hearing whispers of a man that for years now had been looking for a person that drew a likeness to Niklaus' visage.
Niklaus and his sibling's knew only one man of whom it could be, their father... Mikael.
Niklaus had hoped by now he would have been long gone, but it was clear that he had stayed in the old world until he was sure Niklaus was no longer here.
Niklaus could only guess as to why his, once thought father, was trying to bring him down, it was more than likely due to being the bastard child to his wife and her lover.
They were now comfortably seated in the common room of the Inn they planned to stay in for the night. Enjoying a hot meal and happy to be out of the rain outside.
The wooden Inn was warmly lit by a roaring fire in the large stone hearth centrally placed in the centre of the room. The howling wind outside battering the old Inn, making it creak in retaliation and forcing the flames to dance in agitation each time the draft traversed it's way down the chimney.
Four of the Mikaelson's, sitting at a large table in a corner of the room, awaiting for the arrival of Finn before retiring for the night.
As they were seated, enjoying each other's company, the main entrance door blew open. Thinking it may be Finn, the four looked over to check who the newcomer was. They watched as Finn, dressed in a hooded cloak, made his way into the Inn proper, looking around for them. Niklaus was about to draw his older brother's attention to them when he spotted a hooded man following behind him.
They need not see the man to know whom it was, the quick instinct of their senses alerting them to the danger. Reminding them perfectly, to know for certain.
Just as their instincts helped them, so to did it work in the other man's favour. Doing exactly the same for him, he turned his eyes immediately in their direction.
Niklaus quickly rose to his feet as Elijah did the same, placing himself directly in front of Niklaus protectively. Rebekah and Kol recognising the danger only a fraction of a second later as they quickly stood by Niklaus' side.
"Mikael." Elijah greeted with a growl, as the man made his way over to their table in long strides.
"You can not seem to help yourself from trying to protect the coward that is your brother, Elijah." Mikael replied, sneering at Niklaus with nothing but hatred, "There is no need for you to endanger yourself my son."
"Elijah, please get out the way, he only wants Niklaus. No one else need be hurt." Finn pleaded. His worried eyes flicking from his siblings to his father. "Is that not correct, Father?" He asked hesitantly.
"True to my word, Finn." He answered glowering at Niklaus all the while.
Ignoring the man's words, Niklaus gave his attention to his true family. "Do you wish to stay Kol, Elijah, Rebekah?" He whispered too quiet for anyone else to hear, barely moving his lips. Not daring to remove his own eyes from Mikael.
"No!" They answered quickly in unison, equally as quiet.
Having all the permission he needed, Niklaus grabbed hold of Rebekah's hand and Kol did the same to her other. "Follow me." Niklaus whispered.
To quick for any human mortal to see, Niklaus bolted around the other side of the fireplace leading away from the front entrance, and ran at inhuman speed, out through what he hoped was a back door.
Easily forcing it open with a bit of wandless magic, they made their way into the wet cold air as a blanket of rain assailed them, wind whipping at their clothes angrily.
They ran faster into the surrounding forest. Not inclined to letting his sister's hand go, the rest of his sibling's easily keeping up.
They ran, and ran. The only sounds around them in the darkness was the wind blowing the treetops violently and the rain pelting the leaves relentlessly. The sounds of their feet hitting hard on the forest floor, with two sets following behind them.
Niklaus faintly heard Mikael yelling at him. "You are nothing but a coward, Niklaus." He could only just hear, his words being muffled by the wind.
Niklaus was determined to outrun the man. After running throughout the night, thankful not to be subject to tiredness, outrun them they did, loosing the two sometime before sunrise.
'So much for keeping out of the rain and having a nice rest.' Niklaus thought sarcastically.
The four of them had ended up at a remote beach, hiding on a high ledge in a cave that was only accessible with the low tide. Waves splashing just below them.
"Niklaus, calm down." Elijah sighed.
"I am calm, Elijah, but he has betrayed me, betrayed us all!" Niklaus growled, his dark blue eyes devoid of emotion. "He shall pay."
"I am not saying he has not, nor shall not, but you need to plan with a clear mind." Elijah cautioned, perched upon the ledge with his hands on his knees.
Snatching up some drift wood from the water at his feet, Niklaus stared at it with a plan forming in his mind. "He needs to no longer be a nuisance. He needs to be daggered." He said, eyes burning with anger.
"That shall not work, Niklaus," Rebekah laughed softly as she glanced at the waterlogged piece of wood, "He can only die with a white oak stake, and in case you have forgotten, we do not have one." She reminded him, her brows knitting together dubiously.
"I do not wish to kill him, Rebekah." Niklaus said with exasperation. Rolling his blue eyes at her words. "I only wish for him to sleep for as long as possible." He finished with a smirk.
They had been talking since arriving at the cave, trying to find a suitable way to not only punish Finn for his betrayal, but to also keep him from becoming a threat to them each time they ventured out. Having one chasing them was enough for Niklaus. At least Finn was the easier of two. They had no way of knowing if the same would work on Mikael. "Are you with me?" Niklaus asked as he looked over each of his sibling's.
"Do you not think there is another way?" Elijah asked, furrowing his brows as he looked at his brother questioningly.
"Perhaps, but have any of us come up with a better solution?!" Niklaus more stated than asked, already knowing the answer.
"We have no choice." Kol answered, looking at his brother's and sister. "We can not stay here forever, and I shall not let us leave, until we agree upon a plan." He finished, boring his eyes at all of them in turn.
"While we may not like the idea, we are with you, Niklaus." Rebekah assured, "Always and Forever... remember?" She smiled.
"Aye." Kol agreed.
With a sigh Elijah nodded his head in affirmation. "Indeed." He smiled as he looked at Niklaus, "We have to do something." He relented.
"Good... Now this is what we shall do." Niklaus said, once he received his siblings approval.
Once they had left the cave, they found Finn standing on the nearby cliff, knowing the scent of his siblings had lead him there but no longer being able to track it further.
They had made sure he was alone before approaching him. Mikael was no where to be seen and his scent no longer was fresh.
Finn had admitted to telling Mikael where he could find Niklaus, so long as he left the rest of his family in peace. Finn had also admitted that he was tired of Niklaus dragging them from place to place all for his own selfish reason's. He quietly intimated to Niklaus that he believed he had a hand in their Mother's death.
Once those words had left his lips, Niklaus lost no time upon putting the dagger he had made, into the Original's heart. Once it was done, they had all placed his body safely upon the ledge of the very same cave they had previously hid within. Placing protective spells around his body and upon the entrance of the cave, if for naught else but for good measure.
In the end, the remaining Mikaelson's agreed that it was probably for the best that they shall make their way across the sea and back into the New World.
To The America's.
The Mikaelson's had reached the Eastern shores of The Americas, upon a place called Shawmut Peninsula.
By the time they had landed, it was almost the end of July.
Upon arriving they were greeted with friendly caution by the Native warriors. After a short amount of time and much effort, it was made easier for Niklaus and his family to communicate with the Chief and gain their trust and in so doing had been welcomed by the small tribe.
The Native's were eager to share knowledge and taught the Mikaelson's how to track prints in the ground, read the weather patterns and understand what it meant. How to survive and hunt in the wilderness. None the wiser that it was not a necessity for the siblings.
In turn the Mikaelson's had tried to teach the tribe how to speak in the same tongue as themselves along with how to read and write. It was something the Native's were most reluctant to do, as they had their ways and it was how they wanted it to stay. In the end it was a losing battle for the four.
With a mutual relationship and trust formed, they had managed to stay for a good seven long years with the tribe, before deciding to move on.
Other than Hogwarts, that was protected from Muggle's, the Mikaelson's did not want to stay in one place too long. Lest they have Mikael back on their trail.
Niklaus and his siblings had saved all their Galleons over the 150 years of their employment at Hogwarts. They never had the need to spend any back at the castle. Nor did they have the need with the tribe... Until now.
They had found there was only one problem with having Galleons from the wizarding world. There was no way to transfer it to Muggle coins. It was indeed lucky for them that the native American's were willing to trade for anything but coins, they only had need of wares or food.
By the end of the trade Niklaus had secretly transfigured a set of robes into soft bedding for the small tribe of Natives that had been so giving, Rebekah had transfigured a pouch into a fishing trap, Elijah had gifted them with a silver goblet for the Chief, and Kol had traded some parchment, ink and quills they had no need for.
In return Niklaus and his family were given four horses and a wagon, some food and supplies for the journey ahead.
They had tried to return the food, as they had no need for it, and only wished not to take what the tribe would need in the coming winter months, and only relented when they were made to understand that it would only begin to offend the Chief if they did not accept his gift.
It took them a further two months before they saw any other humans, they had never gone that long without any special sustenance. Living with the Native's had not only taught them to survive on animal blood, but had also limited them to not having what they truly needed for eight long months now. It was not what they desired and not what they needed, they needed to gain their strength and could only do that effectively with human blood... and they were very thirsty.
It was a small camp of only ten travellers, five woman and five men, and Niklaus was eager to hunt.
He shared a grin with his siblings. "Maybe it would be more enjoyable to wait until evening." He suggested with a whisper in the gentle breeze.
"Why? I am very hungry, Niklaus!" Kol whispered his complaint.
Niklaus only shrugged in response. "I thought it shall be entertaining, but if you shall rather not wait, then by all means, do not let me stop you." He answered unperturbed, side glancing at his younger brother and raising an eyebrow.
He would have liked some entertainment to interrupt the uneventful travelling, but he was equally eager to feed.
The Mikaelson's observed the group for a short time longer as they were hidden within the dense forest. Listening to the soft sound of the water babbling down the brook, hearing the distant chatter of the animals and humans alike.
They watched as one of the women of the group trekked her way down the bank of the stream, alone. "I think I have waited long enough." Kol whispered eagerly. His sharp brown eyes never once leaving the woman's retreating form.
Within the blink of an eye he was gone.
"It would seem our brother has found his meal." Rebekah pouted. "Time for me to pick mine." Her blue eyes glinting as they looked over to where the other travellers were talking as they hustled to make camp, not suspecting they were being watched. "I think I shall have blonde this time." She decided, smirking at her brother's before she too disappeared just as quickly.
"Now it is just you and I brother." Niklaus said with a wolfish grin.
"Indeed." Elijah smirked.
With a shrug Niklaus and Elijah too disappeared, making their way quickly to the small camp.
Within the next second, all that could be heard, were screams and shouts. The women screaming, and the men shouting at them to stop. The Mikaelson's ignored it all. Not one left on these lands had ever seen the likes of these hunter's before.
The remaining men hurriedly ushered the women to the banks of the stream in an attempt to escape.
Niklaus had missed, over the last eight months, the feeling of the warm blood making as much of a track down the inside of his throat as it did down the skin of his neck. It was nothing short of ecstasy, and Niklaus lost himself to it as he moaned in pleasure.
Once sated and sighing in contentment, Niklaus looked up from the neck he was feeding from. Taking notice of his surroundings once more, he almost immediately took notice of Kol. 'Is he talking to them?' He asked himself. Frowning at the very thought.
With a sigh, he dropped the man's body, letting it fall to the ground at his feet.
Shaking his head in exasperation, Niklaus ignored his other prey for the moment and made his way over to his brother, wanting to know what he was up to.
Upon reaching him, Niklaus placed his hand on Kol's shoulder. "What are you doing, brother?" He asked perplexed, as he gazed at the four human's before them. One man had naturally pale skin in contrast with his jet black hair and pale blue eyes. The other man too had black hair and a pale complexion although his eyes were brown, Niklaus then glanced briefly at the women behind them and noticed one looked similar to one of the men trying to protect her with her similar features, while the other had brown hair.
"They were pleading for me to let them and their brother go." Kol answered with a shrug, inspecting his nails with indifference.
"So you thought to converse with them?" Niklaus asked slowly, a just as slow crease forming between his brows.
"Well, I kind of like this one." Kol smirked as he gestured vaguely to the blue eyed man. "He reminds me of you." He chuckled, glancing at his brother. Niklaus looked at him as if he had lost his mind.
Elijah and Rebekah had noticed the commotion and had joined their siblings in the banter. "He does look a little similar to you brother." Rebekah said as she wiped her mouth with a small piece of cloth. Looking over to the ladies she smiled. "I am sorry, I hope you shan't mind, but I needed to borrow this." She added, gently waving the cloth before her. "I shall give it back, as I am no thief." She smiled again. The two women shared a nervous glance, before stepping closer to the men in front of them.
"It was more for his temperament that I was indicating dear sister." Kol explained glancing at her with a shake of his head. Rebekah just chuckled with a shrug before looking at Niklaus and kissing the air.
"You seem very playful sister." Niklaus said fondly, shaking his head in exasperation. Looking back to Kol he smirked. "Has your mother not taught you to never play with your food, brother?"
"What are you planning?" Elijah interrupted, looking over at Kol with narrowed eyes.
Kol inspected the men with shrewd eyes. "I think I shall spare him." Kol said calmly, getting straight to the point as he indicated the man with jet black hair. "He has... character, a certain... arrogance. That is why he reminds me of you, Niklaus."
"And what of the other's?" Niklaus asked, his dark eyebrow raising slightly in question.
Kol just shrugged, "He shall need someone to feed from, so I was thinking I shall leave them for his decision once he is changed, and we can camp here for the night." Kol glanced at Niklaus with a mischievous glint in his brown eyes. "You wanted entertainment, Niklaus, now you shall have some, yes?" Kol smirked, smugness evident in his entire demeanour.
"I can agree to that." Niklaus affirmed with a nod, slowly returning the smirk as he watched the confusion unfold on the four faces before him.
By the time morning had come around, the Mikaelson's watched with interest as the man had re-awoken, no longer his once human self. They could tell he was confused as to why his fellow travellers only sat there with blank expressions upon their faces. None the wiser unto the Mikaelson's having compelled them. He appeared to be hard pressed as to decide upon whom to feed from first, Kol had helped him by offering the brown haired lady to him as a gift.
They watched as the man's nostrils flared in want as he sunk his teeth into the delicate neck. Before he felt her life ebb away he had shown great restraint when he stopped feeding, looking up at the originals with pleading eyes, begging for them to tell him how to change her, he confessed he could not live an immortal life without her. Learning that the woman was his wife.
Niklaus had explained in part what to do, taking pity on the man and not wishing for him to suffer an eternity of loneliness, but Kol had been the one to help him. It was after all, Kol's idea in the first place, and in turn, his responsibility.
As the man waited for his wife to awake, he had moved over to the other woman, Niklaus watched, thinking the man was going to finish his meal with her, only to see him feed her his blood and take her life, the same as he had with his wife.
By the end of it Niklaus was amused to see the man change all of his companions, informing them of the connection with the pair as his sister and her husband.
Niklaus thought of it more as an experiment, as they had each, only ever changed one person. The very first time when they had learnt they could.
Niklaus had quietly mentioned to his siblings, so only they could hear, that he was curious to see if the magic they naturally carried within their own blood would transfer into the new Vampires. Stirring alive their own curiosity as they would a cauldron full of potion.
It did not however, although it did come with some interesting results.
Niklaus, along with his siblings, continued to watch as once the man's wife had come back, whispering her husband's name in confusion, he went straight to her, quickly wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her to her feet.
It appeared to the Mikaelson's, he had gained a special ability, one that allowed him to know exactly what his wife had been thinking and feeling, which became evident as soon as he had touched her, answering her thoughts as easily as if she had spoken them.
Niklaus and his siblings allowed the small group to travel along side them for the duration of the day in hopes of helping them find a human for his companions to feed from in order for the transition to be completed.
They followed the man as he headed back the way he had travelled the days leading up to when they met at the camp, insisting there was a small village only half a day and several leagues away.
Being pleased it was in the very same direction the Mikaelson's were originally heading towards the previous day, they had agreed to humour the man and accommodate him. Niklaus had noticed he had a different way of pronouncing his words, from what Niklaus had been familiar with when they had once lived in the America's, and wondered where the man was from.
He had asked the man and was informed, with no small amount of condescension, that they were from Greece and had come over on an exploration ship, wishing to see what the New World had to offer, they had planned to stay for a month, before deciding upon if they were likely to stay.
'Well, Kol was right! Definitely arrogant!' Thought Niklaus as they traversed the opening land. Niklaus could only hope Kol and in turn the rest of them, had not made a mistake.
It was nearing nightfall by the time they had reached the small village. That was where the Mikaelson's, with the same condescension as the man had earlier displayed, had wished the group luck as they continued on for the rest of the night.
Although they still had the ability to sleep, it was not a necessity as much as it would have been, were they still human.
They felt the desire to get as much distance between themselves and what was bound to happen in the small village this night. This time having no inclination unto partaking in the bloodshed.
They had finally made it upon the clearing that was once their small village, not much had changed over the last 200 or so years, only another little village had sprouted within it.
The people were welcoming, and the Mikaelson's decided to put down roots once more. At least until they, no doubt would be required to flee once again.
Upon arriving within the village, the siblings decided to go straight to their cave, hoping it had not been disturbed.
After treking through the forest surrounding the village, they were pleased upon finding that it had not been.
They proceeded unto adding upon the history that was their lives, upon the walls of the cave.
Now that they knew they could harness magic, and how to use it, they agreed that the best way to preserve the place and protect it from any unwanted guests, was unto each taking turns within placing enchantments upon the walls and entrance, only allowing the siblings the ability to gain entry. They would, over the years, add more magic upon the spells in order unto keeping them strong.
It had taken Mikael near upon 25 years to come back upon the place where it had all begun. Obviously, not thinking the sibling's shall return back hither, perhaps he had spent the better part of that time, trying to locate Finn. Niklaus was not sure, all he was sure of, was that they were now fleeing once more.
They had managed unto building a quaint little home within that amount of time, enjoying each other's company as the Mikaelson children had shared it together.
They had planned, upon the chance that Mikael shall come, that they shall see upon what Greece had to offer, and see if they could track down the Vampire with too much arrogance.
They had ran north, for hundreds of leagues, before turning east. Eventually making it unto the shore, and compelling a ships crew to take them to Greece.
They were surprised, and in Niklaus' case, enraged unto finding the arrogant Vampire had made a little empire of his own, claiming unto himself to be the first of his kind and therefore Vampire royalty. Having his own Vampire and human... followers.
Kol had been amused at first before finding incredulity within the situation. Elijah had only been a little less angry than Niklaus, finding it appalling at such blatant disrespect. Rebekah had felt affronted before disgust had permanently planted itself within her at the gall of the arrogant Vampire.
As they watched, Niklaus' fury had ended with a confrontation upon the group, reminding them of their place in this world, by showing them exactly as to whom had created them and what the Original Vampires were capable of.
Niklaus showed no mercy as he aggressively fed from the small congregation of human's in front of a displeased Vampire. Compelling them not to run, without giving away the talent of such a thing unto his enemies. At least not at first.
Niklaus had taken great pleasure at the arrogant Vampires worried face when he had compelled the other Vampire's to stay where they stood.
Only for the arrogant fool to find out later that he did not share that same ability on his little guild.
Niklaus had left the same four, from that uneventful day when Kol had turned the man; but had killed the remaining Vampire's that the man had, in turn, created himself over the years upon his arrival back in his home country.
The rest of his family had left him unto his anger, knowing better than to interfere, also agreeing with his choice to make an example of the lot of them, to teach the arrogant Vampire not to cross them in the future.
It may have been easier to just kill all of them but Niklaus desired for there to be witnesses, upon the event it may come to good use in the future.
Niklaus and his siblings moved on from Greece after that and made their way to Romania.
They had managed to find a beautiful abandoned castle high upon a mountain top and claimed it for their own. Staying there for another 50 years.
Over time, making quite a name for themselves with the noblemen and noblewomen within the village below. Claiming the title of Noblemen and Noblewoman themselves.
The Mikaelson's having the desire to change into Vampire's, a select few whom they shared a mutual respect with, in order to leave loyal eyes and ears wherever they had once called home.
Ready for when they had to leave for lands unknown.
Eventually having loyal follower's all around the world.
Well, there we have it. Chapter 3 complete. I hope you have enjoyed it to any degree...
Please feel free to R & R!
