The Purple Scarf That Saved A Life
It was a lovely Sunday morning when Hermione walked through muggle London. She'd felt the need to go out for a walk since there weren't many sunny days in England, and her parents had taught her never to take a sunny day for granted. Even though the sun was shining, the snow was still everywhere around and the cold was slowly seeping through her coat. She pulled her home-knitted purple scarf a little higher and turned left to Gillingham Park. There she saw that many people had thought the same thing. Young children were playing in the snow and people were exercising. As she turned to stop for a moment, she saw a jogger collapse right in front of her. Quickly, she sped forward and knelt next to the man who was not older than forty.
Assessing the situation in seconds, she pointed to the man closest to her with a phone in his hand.
"You!" she yelled.
"You need to call emergency services immediately!"
The young man started dialling, and she heard him talking quickly on the phone.
"We need a doctor here!" Hermione yelled to no one in particular and she heard the message being called on by different people in the park to spread the word.
Hermione checked the pulse, and when she realised that this man was also not breathing, she felt inside her pocket to ensure that her wand was there.
At the moment when she wanted to cast a resuscitation spell, an elderly man at the end of his sixties was kneeling with the help of a younger woman with immense black hair.
"He's a doctor!" She said quickly and knelt down
"We need to start resuscitation," Hermione said quickly to the doctor, the adrenaline racing through her veins and her heart pounding in her chest.
"You start, I'll count," the elderly man said to Hermione.
Hermione started chest compressions whilst the doctor was checking if the airway was obstructed. After Hermione's first 30 chest compressions, she heard the patient's head hitting the floor with each compression. Whilst the woman with the immense black hair breathed, Hermione called to the doctor to continue whilst she took off her scarf and put it under his head and neck.
When the doctor had reached the last bit of the thirty chest compressions, the black-haired woman breathed again and in the commotion of the sirens getting closer, Hermione cast a resuscitation spell and whispered, "Rennervate."
Instantly, the patient's eyes opened and slowly started to move.
The crowd that had been silent all around them slowly started to clap, and Hermione got up to make way for the ambulance nurses.
"I'm a doctor, I will join him at the hospital," the elderly man said, looking at Hermione to see if she agreed.
Hermione nodded and shook his hand.
"Well done, Ms," the doctor said and slowly got up with help from the black-haired woman again.
The patient was moved onto the stretcher and still looking around, dazed.
"Good luck," Hermione whispered and stepped back even further.
The ambulance drove off, with the patient, the doctor, and the black-haired woman under loud applause from the crowd and then, for the first time in minutes, Hermione started breathing consciously again. She puffed a bit and received some pats on the shoulder and thanks from strangers and decided to walk on.
The occurrence in Gillingham Park had been on Hermione's mind in the weeks that followed, but she'd forgotten about it as life continued. It was four weeks later when Hermione was reminded of it again. Harry and she were having a cup of tea at Grimmauld Place when he handed her his muggle newspaper with a circled article.
Searching for the Girl with the Purple Scarf
A story by Fiona Greene
Dearest reader,
On the 17th of February this year, a man called George Hunt fell to the ground in Gillingham Park, London. The man was out for his usual run when he suddenly collapsed. Later on, doctors knew that he suffered a heart attack, but because of the quick response of bystanders, this man's life was saved! The mystery woman had ordered someone to call emergency services and for medical assistance from people surrounding them and placed her scarf under Mr Hunt's head. As Mr Hunt is now well enough to be released from the hospital, he remains under strict supervision by medical staff. Now he's left the hospital, he wants to thank the heroine who saved his life and give the scarf back to her. Do you know who this woman is? Please contact our newspaper at the correspondence address at the bottom of the page and we will arrange contact with Mr. Hunt.
Hermione's heart pounded in her chest.
"It appears that your adventure has come full circle, Mione," Harry said after she'd stared at the article in shock.
"I can't believe it," Hermione said amazed.
Harry smiled and said, "I have written the paper for you and made you an appointment tonight in a local restaurant."
"What? Why did you do so without telling me?!" Hermione asked, somewhat angry that he arranged this without her permission.
"Because I know you, Mione. You will be stressing over it until the moment comes, so I decided that you have been stressed and worried enough for the rest of your life."
Her anger subsided immediately, and she nodded. "Will it just be me and him?"
"The doctor from the park will also be present, together with his granddaughter, who has just as black hair as I do, by the way. If you took only pictures of our hair and mix them up, you could swear it was my hair! Anyway, if you'd like, I can join you. You know, for support. And to make sure you get your scarf back," Harry added jokingly.
Hermione smiled warmly at her best friend. "I'd love that."
