Takes place after Chapter 11: Midoriya Does His Best
Kyoka was never someone to... Express how she felt. This is mostly due to the fact that Kyoka has Autism. But also because of this, her sensory sensitivities, like loud noises, can be quite overwhelming.
A loud, mechanical voice started blasting over the loudspeaker a second later, "ATTENTION! Security Level Three has been broken! All students must evacuate in an orderly fashion!" The message proceeded to loop after that as the cafeteria quickly descended into panic.
After evacuating into the hallway, Kyoka clamped her hands over her ears, but soon she had found that Izuku was holding onto her, and she had heard Ochaco yell, "Stay together guys!"
This was too much. Way too much for Kyoka, even Izuku was crying. Kyoka wanted to as well, but she couldn't, since she didn't want any of her classmates to think less of her.
So Kyoka stayed quiet until finally the alarm ended. Then, slowly she removed her hands from her ears, still overwhelmed.
As soon as everyone got to their proper evacuation area, Kyoka looked at the ground, not wanting to interact with anyone.
"You're all here, good work." Aizawa spoke up a minute later when he rounded the corner. "Midoriya, Principal Nezu wants to see you after school today."
Kyoka began zoning out, mostly due to the fact that even in the evacuation area, people were still talking, and it was very noisy.
"Just let today be done and over with..." Kyoka mumbled.
Kyoka didn't know where her thoughts were headed, but she knew that whatever was going to happen was going to make her feel incredibly anxious. And she wouldn't be able to hide it if it did.
Eventually, everyone went back to their normal daily routines.
For Class 1A, it was English with Present Mic.
They went over some things from their past lesson and things were mostly fine... Until everyone started talking all at once.
The chatter got even louder than it already was, making Kyoka uncomfortable enough to start shaking. Her breathing was heavy, palms sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy. Vomit on her sweater in Ma's spaghetti.
However, nobody saw that Mic pulled out his phone, and called someone.
"Sho, I think a student is still overwhelmed over what happened during lunch." Mic informed. "No, it's not Midoriya. It's Jirou. Can you come and get her and maybe help her out? Sweet! Alright, thanks Sho, love you. Mwah."
A couple of minutes later, there was a knock on the classroom door. Mic had walked over to the door, and opened it, seeing his lovely partner, Shota Aizawa.
"Thanks for coming, Sho." Mic thanked his loveperson. "I know how much you like to spend your free periods sleeping, due to the nature of your quirk."
"Hizashi, I'm not going to sit around while one of my students is overstimulated. I know what its like to be autistic and struggling, so if anything, it's my RESPONSIBILITY to help them as much as I can." Aizawa informed, before cracking a small smirk. "Plus, don't get me started on periods."
"You KNOW I wasn't talking about that kind of period."
"Just a trans joke." Aizawa chuckled.
Mic had then walked over to Kyoka's desk. He noticed that she had put her hands over her ears and was shaking.
He approached her cautiously. However, he didn't want to scare her. Instead, he decided to place his hand onto her shoulder. He wasn't that surprised when she flinched away.
"Sorry, I was just going to tell you that Eraserhead is at the door waiting for you." Mic explained.
"Wh...At... Why?" Kyoka shakily asked.
"He'll tell you when you meet with him." Mic informed. "Now, come on, kid."
He walked Kyoka over to the door. Kyoka tried to steady her breathing, but to no avail.
When they reached the door, Mic opened it and allowed Kyoka to walk through first. As soon as she was through, Mic closed the door behind her, ensuring she wouldn't be disturbed anymore.
She then noticed Aizawa waiting outside. Aizawa gave a small wave. She stared at him for a moment before moving forward.
"Don't worry, you're not in any trouble, Zashi just told me that you looked a bit overwhelmed in class." Aizawa informed.
"I'm disturbing you, aren't I? You probably have a class to teach and I'm wasting your time." Kyoka rambled anxiously, shaking some more.
"No, Jirou. I actually have a free period right now, so I'm not teaching anyone and I'm not busy right now." Aizawa shook his head. "Would you like to come to the teacher's lounge? It's a lot quiter in there than it is in your classroom."
Kyoka shakily nodded her head.
"Alright, follow me. It isn't too far away." Aizawa reassured and began to walk down the hallways.
Kyoka followed him in silence. Soon they arrived at a slightly larger room.
"Here we are. Feel free to take a seat." Aizawa gestured to the couch, which Kyoka sat down at.
"Thanks." Kyoka mumbled quietly and fiddled with her fingers.
It was quiet. Too quiet.
What were they supposed to talk about? What should Kyoka say?
What was she supposed to do?
"So, did the alarms from before startle you?" Aizawa asked Kyoka, who nodded. "I see. Is anything else bugging you at the moment?"
"I guess... The lights." Kyoka answered.
"Would you like me to turn them off?" Aizawa asked.
"Y-yes please." Kyoka nodded.
Aizawa left the room momentarily to turn off the lights. When he returned, he made a move to sit across from Kyoka.
"Hey, sorry for being weird about the alarms..." Kyoka apologised.
"Jirou, you're not being weird, your brain just so happens to work differently than others." Aizawa comforted. "Some sounds may seem too loud for you, some lights or colours may seem too bright for you, some smells may seem too strong for you, social interaction may be too hard for you, and you might have different ways to calm down, like playing with your earphone jacks. But that doesn't mean you're abnormal. Its not a bad thing to have different sensitivities to a given situation, okay?"
"But I'm autistic. I was born weird." Kyoka refuted.
"No, no. You were just born in a society that isn't made for you." Aizawa assured. "It's okay to be a little different. There will always be those that are different, no matter their shape, size, quirk, or brain."
Kyoka nodded, but didn't say anything.
"Why don't I let you in on a little secret?" Aizawa asked Kyoka. "You have to keep it a secret though, since I don't want anyone to make a fuss out of it."
"Ok..." Kyoka nodded.
"I'm going to turn on the light's though, is that alright?"
"I... Uh..."
"Ok, I won't turn on the lights if you aren't completely comfortable, yet." Aizawa promised.
Kyoka nodded. She didn't want him turning on the lights, because then, everything would be too bright. So then, why shouldn't she trust Aizawa to make sure nothing hurt her.
"I'm actually autistic, too." Aizawa informed.
"Really?" Kyoka asked, sounding surprised. "B-but you're so..."
"And some of your classmates are neurodivergent as well." Aizawa added. "Aoyama, Ashido, Asui, Yaoyorozu, Midoriya, Iida, Shoji, Todoroki, Kirishima, Uraraka, Koda, and Sato are autistic. Kaminari, Kirishima, Ashido, and Hagakure have ADHD."
"I... I'm shocked..." Kyoka mumbled.
"You don't have to mask around me." Aizawa comforted. "If you need to stim in any way, then, feel free to do so."
Kyoka immediately started twirling her index fingers around her quirk, and started humming a tune. After a few moments, it was almost like she was calming herself down again.
"That helps, huh?" Aizawa commented.
"Yeah... Thank y-" Kyoka paused for a second before continuing. "...you for being so understanding."
"Hey, it's fine, Earphone Girl." Aizawa replied, giving a small smile. "Besides, you can always talk to me or Mic if you ever feel uncomfortable or upset. Even if it's something like this."
"M'kay..." Kyoka shrugged, nodding her head once. "Thank you."
After a few more moments, which would've been completely silent if it weren't for the sound of Kyoka humming, Aizawa spoke up again.
"Are you ready to go back to class?" Aizawa asked.
"I... Don't know... It was so loud in there...and I don't know if I can go back in there without..."
Aizawa pulled up one of the cushions on the couch and reached down into it, pulling out a pair of noise cancelling headphones.
"Here, you can borrow them." Aizawa offered.
"Headphones?" Kyoka asked, perplexed.
"They're sound cancelling." Aizawa explained. "Just drop them off back here at the end of the day. Ok?"
"Alright." Kyoka nodded, putting them on. "Wow, these are great."
"Now would you like me to walk you back to class, or are you able to go back yourself?"
"Take me back, please." Kyoka requested.
Soon, the two left the teacher's lounge. The walk was quiet, but not awkward. Eventually, the two found themselves walking up to the door to the classroom.
"Are you sure you're OK to go back to class? Because if you aren't, I'll get the stuff you were working on and-..."
"No no, I'll be fine. I've wasted your time enough."
"Jirou, you didn't waste your time. You have sensory issues, and you may struggle because of them, but that does NOT mean that you're in the wrong." Aizawa explained calmly.
"...thank you." Kyoka quietly thanked.
"Anytime." Aizawa smiled slightly. He opened the door to the classroom before stepping aside. "See you later."
"See you." Kyoka responded quietly before entering the room, now having the headphones on made the room sounding way quieter.
Go beyond! Plus Ultra!
