Chapter Five

They say that time goes by quickly only in two ways when you're busy or happy. If that is the case, it would explain how quickly the next six months went for Killian. His day began the same every day; he would be woken up early by Terra and join the three Twi'lek in two hours of physical training. Then after a quick breakfast and shower, he would study Mandalorian history and language for the next six hours, Aola would join him, but her studies differed since most of what he was learning, she already knew.

After lunch, Killian and Aola would spend the next few hours training under the watchful eye of Argyle or Terra (sometimes both) with training swords, knives, and other weapons, occasionally they would use no weapons at all and simply fight with gloves on to protect their fists. At first, Killian was given a training sword and told to repeatedly perform the same movements for hours until he achieved muscle memory. Only after a month, when he had mastered the basics was, he allowed training alongside Aola. Sometimes, Argyle would set down on a planet between jobs, and Aola and Killian would train with blasters or rifles. At first, Killian had been a terrible shot, never having touched a weapon, let alone fired one. But gradually, over the months, he had gone from awful to mediocre to adequate.

After weapons training, Killian and Aola would be given more study material to learn; Aola was learning ship repair. Terra had given him information about different planets and species that she said: "Would help him in this new galaxy in which he had been thrown into."

The months of constant study and training had begun to show themselves on him, as he began to grow muscle and no longer looked like a starved rat,

"You'll be a good-looking young man someday," Terra would say. "Those Mandalorian girls won't be able to keep their hands off you" Killian would always blush at this, much to the laughter of Argyle.

After dinner, and only when all their training and studying were complete were Aola and Killian allowed to play and explore the ship.

The ship was immense, Killian had discovered, with dozens of secret compartments and hidden chambers that made it an easy place to get lost. Aside from the cockpit and mess-hall, it also had a medical room, cargo hold, living quarter, and half a dozen bedrooms. Killian had almost cried when Terra had shown him his, which was a great change from the basement that he had once called his room.

It wasn't huge, but it was much bigger than he had imagined he would get and included a bed, desk, and window for viewing the stars that flew past as they flew to their next destination.

Argyle and Terra would receive jobs fairly regularly from an enormous Wookie, but whenever they would land, Aola and Killian would be told to stay on the ship. They would have U-3T to watch them and make sure they did.

"Can't we at least go and explore?" Killian had asked, anxious to see these new alien worlds he had only read about, but it was always the same answer,

"When you're older and have more experience, you can," Terra would say. "The galaxy isn't as nice a place as it is in your books, I imagine."

Killian hated being locked on the ship, but he did as he was told, all the same, trusting the Twi'leks that he was beginning to see as family.

"Aola, where are you?" Killian called out as he walked down the dark hallway.

"You know the rules, Killian. You have to speak in Mando'a when we play. It's the only way you'll learn," Came the sing-song reply from somewhere down the hall.

Killian sighed in frustration; his skill with the language had improved. However, he still had to stop occasionally to remember a word.

"Aola, vaii cuyir gar?" (Aola, where are you?) He called out again into the dark, bringing a giggle from somewhere ahead of him.

"Olaror bal mar'eyir ni" (Come and find me) came the answering reply, followed by another giggle, which made Killian smile in return.

Killian walked down the hall, carefully watching for any sign of her, lest she jump out and scare him, which was her current favorite thing to do, "Olaror bat Aola, vaii cuyir gar?" (Come on, Aola, where are you?) He called out as he peeked around a corner, slowly.

"Ni'm staabi Nor'be gar." (I'm right behind you) Came a whispered reply next to his ear, which made him scream in fear and spin around quickly.

Aola was standing behind him laughing and holding her sides as she bent over,

"Don't do that!" Killian yelled, placing a hand over his heart, "I'm too young to die of a heart attack!"

"You scream like a girl!" Aola laughed as she wiped tears from her eyes. "Mandalorians don't scream like that!"

"Well, I'm not a Mandalorian yet, am I?!" Killian snapped back, making Aola stop laughing and look at him.

"Someday, you will be. We both will," Aola replied seriously.

Killian looked at her for a moment before shaking his head and sighing in frustration, "How did you get behind me anyway?"

Aola giggled quickly and pointed at the ceiling, "You were looking for me on the ground and walked right under me without realizing it." Then, she clarified, "A Mandalorian has to be able to outsmart their opponent as well as outfight them."

Killian looked at the ceiling at her words, seeing the pipes above them and whistling in appreciation.

"I'm impressed, Aola. I didn't think that you might be above me."

His words brought a smile of pride to her face, and she was about to say something when U-3T suddenly appeared behind them.

"Is everything alright, children?" The droid asked as it approached, "I heard a scream and came to investigate its origin."

"That would be Killian," Aola said with another laugh, making Killian go red.

"What was the cause of your scream, Master Killian?" U-3T asked, turning to him.

"Aola scaring me as usual," Killian responded, to which Aola stuck out her tongue at him and laughed.

"Your parents would be most displeased to hear that you weren't getting along, children," U-3T responded.

"We are getting along, though," Aola corrected.

"And they're not my parents," Killian added softly, making Aola stare at him for a moment.

"You say you are getting along, yet you are scaring Master Killian?" U-3T asked, turning to Aola.

"That's how kids play," Aola said, placing her hand on her hips as if talking to a dimwit,

"That is a very odd way to show affection," U-3T said, tilting its head slightly and making the children laugh at its apparent confusion.

"Olaror bat, Killian. Let's slanar play some or'atu." (Come on, Killian. Let's go play some more) Aola said, taking his hand and leading him down the hallway away from U-3T. Soon the droid lost sight of them, and only laughter echoed from the darkened hallway as the droid turned and made its way back to the living quarter.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

A few hours later, when Argyle and Terra had returned to the ship, they found the children wrestling in the cargo hold; Argyle laughed as he saw Aola sitting on Killian's chest, both her legs pinning his arms, as he struggled to break loose.

"Aola, let the boy up already." Argyle laughed as he took off his helmet, "I think you've tortured him enough for one day."

"How else will he learn to be one of us if I don't help him?" Aola laughed as she jumped off of him.

"I think you need to look up what the definition of helping is," Killian grumbled as he rose to his feet and dusted himself off, making Aola giggle.

"Killian, be nice," Terra said as she too took off her helmet.

"Me?" Killian said, "What about her?"

"Well, if you don't want to become Aola's permanent seat, you know what to do?" Argyle asked as he bent down to face him, "Grow stronger."

Aola laughed at that, and Killian growled at her, making her laugh more, as Argyle stood up and smiled at the two.

"Any problems while we were gone?" Terra asked U-3T as the droid walked towards them.

"No, Master," it answered, "The children behaved satisfactorily."

"Good," Argyle said as the group moved towards the living quarter.

With a sigh of satisfaction, Argyle and Terra sat at the table, placing their helmets on it, while Aola and Killian sat close by.

"I trust there were no complications with your business, Master?" U-3T asked.

"Nope," Argyle said, leaning back and placing his hands behind his head as he closed his eyes, "The bounty tried to make a run for it, Terra stunned him, and we delivered him to the client, nice and easy job. Just how I like them."

"Any idea where we're going next?" Killian asked excitedly.

"Depends on the job that Hevv finds us," Argyle replied, opening one eye to stare at him. The alarm for an incoming message began to sound as if on cue, and U-3T quickly left to answer it, leaving the four alone.

"There's actually a question I wanted to ask you, Killian," Terra said, looking at him, "When is your birthday? Aola's is approaching, and if yours is close, we can celebrate them together."

Aola's head perked up at the mention, and a smile began to form on her face, while Killian's head drooped sadly.

"I don't remember when it is." He said sadly, making the three Twi'lek stare at him.

"What do you mean you don't remember?" Argyle asked, sitting up,

"When you're in the foster system, birthdays don't mean much." Killian said sadly, "And when I came to Mrs. Murray, I was never allowed to celebrate it, so I just forgot so I wouldn't be disappointed every year."

Argyle and Terra shared a dark look, the same one they always shared when Killian would tell them about his former guardian. At the same time, Aola quickly gave Killian a hug.

"Well then, I guess you two will just have to celebrate together from now on," Terra said as she crossed her arms.

Aola let out a squeal of delight at that and hugged Killian tighter, "We can be twins!" Then, she said excitedly, "Both born on the same day!"

Argyle let out a laugh at that and quickly rose to his feet, "Aside from a few physical differences, I'd say you already are."

Killian smiled happily alongside Aola at that.

"I've always wanted a little brother!" Aola laughed, making her parents smile happily.

"Hey, who said you're the elder of us?" Killian asked, feigning annoyance.

"I did," Aola responded happily, pulling away from him. "And you know the rules, I called it first, so I win!"

"That is NOT how it works!" Killian responded with a growl, lunging at her.

Aola let out a squeal of delight before running down the hallway, shouting, "Is too, little brother!"

"Is not!" Killian yelled back as he chased after her, leaving Argyle and Terra alone.

"Did you notice?" Argyle said as he looked down the hallway, they had gone,

Terra nodded before replying as a smile began to form. "He didn't correct her when she called him her little brother."

Argyle smiled at her before taking her hand in his, "You were right. I'm glad we took him in."

"I'm always right," Terra responded happily as she kissed his lips.

Argyle opened his mouth to respond when U-ET approached from behind them,

"Master, there is a transmission for you from someone named Lec Farr."

The two broke away immediately as Argyle turned to the droid, his demeanor suddenly serious,

"What does he want?" Argyle asked, quickly moving toward the droid, Terra close behind.

"He will not say," U-3T responded quickly. "He will say only that his message is for you and you alone."

Argyle nodded in understanding as Terra passed him and entered the cockpit.

"Keep an eye on the children and see that we are not disturbed," Argyle said before following her.

"Of course, Master." U-3T said quickly before shuffling off.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Both Terra and Argyle stood still as they viewed the being in front of them. He was a tall, powerfully built man, wearing Mandalorian armor as black as the night sky, with a red cape flowing behind him.

"Brother." The Mandalorian said simply, with a dip of his head, before turning to Terra, "Sister."

"It's been a long time, Lec," Terra said softly, crossing her arms.

"Too long." Lec replied in a deep baritone voice, "Far too long."

"What's happened?" Argyle asked, crossing his arms.

Lec stared at the pair in silence for a moment before dipping his head and replying, "Father is dead. He passed in his sleep a few nights ago. I have been named the new leader of clan Farr."

Both Argyle and Terra's eyes went wide in shock for a moment before they quickly kneeled onto one knee, their heads bowed in respect.

"Rise, you two," Lec said quickly, nodding as they did so, "We have much to discuss."

The two shared a look before Lec continued speaking, "But first, tell me, how is my niece?"

"She is well. She will make Clan Farr proud one day," Argyle replied with pride in his voice.

"As will her brother," Terra added, making Lec turn to her suddenly,

"Brother?" Lec asked.

"We discovered a foundling on Alderaan," Argyle said quickly. "He had no one, and we took him in. He is learning our ways very quickly. I've no doubts he will be a great asset to our people."

"I see. I look forward to meeting him, then," Lec said after a moment of silence.

Argyle and Terra glanced at each other quickly before Argyle responded,

"We are to return to Mandalore, then?"

"You are." Lec said with a nod of his head, "Things between the Sith Empire and the Republic are getting worse. The clans must meet to decide what is to be done."

"When are we expected?" Argyle asked.

"The meeting will happen thirty days from now, which will give the rest of the clans time to summon their warriors home," Lec replied.

"We will be there," Terra said with a nod.

"Good. I'll be expecting you," Lec said in a harsh voice, "Until then, I wish you a safe journey home."

Without another word, the hologram faded, leaving the two alone,

"What do you think he will do?" Terra said as she took her seat.

"Lec's always been ambitious," Argyle responded, taking his own seat, "But he will protect the clan at all costs. Honestly, I have no idea what will happen. There hasn't been a gathering like this for a long time."

"The children aren't ready if it comes to war." Terra said thoughtfully, "Killian especially"

"They won't have to be. They still have a long time before they will be tested," Argyle responded, turning to her,

"And if war is declared?" Terra asked, "Who will we side with?"

Argyle was silent for several moments at that, "Before we make any rash judgments, let's see what happens at this meeting."

Argyle began activating controls without another word, and the ship slowly began climbing into the sky.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The ship rocked suddenly as another burst of light exploded near them. In the cockpit, Killian was strapped into his chair and holding hands with Aola, while Argyle was at the controls trying to keep them from being hit. They had only been flying a few hours when they suddenly found themselves being fired upon. A quick scan of their ships had Argyle cursing, "Damn pirates!"

"Get to the guns!" He yelled suddenly, making Terra unstrap herself and run out of the room. A few moments later, her voice came out of the speaker,

"I'm here. It looks like three ships. Never mind, make that two ships."

Argyle smiled at that before another burst of light rocked the ship, "Any chance you could make it no ships, honey?"

"I'll do my best," Came the reply, followed by another blast.

"Aola, you and Killian go to your room," Argyle said as he turned the controls, narrowly missing a beam of light, "And lock the door, don't let anyone in. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Papa," Aola replied as the two unstrapped themselves and quickly made their way to Aola's room.

"Don't worry, little brother. They got this," Aola said, making Killian smile slightly.

"I told you, that's not how it works," Killian said as they entered Aola's room.

"And I told you it is," Aola responded as she stuck out her tongue at him and locked the door.

The ship rocked hard suddenly, throwing the two across the room; as they slowly tried to get up, another blast threw Killian against the wall, and he was knocked out.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The next thing Killian knew, he was being shaken hard, and a voice was yelling at him,

"Killian, please wake up!"

As he opened his eyes, he saw Aola above him, with tears in her eyes, looking down at him. His head felt like it had been split open, and as he slowly sat up, he felt dizzy.

"You're alive!" Aola yelled happily, throwing her arms around him,

"How long have I been out?" He asked softly as he pulled away from her.

"A few minutes," she replied, as she wiped her eyes, "I was really scared when I couldn't wake you up."

"Are we still under attack?" He asked, rising to his feet. The ship was eerily quiet, and there were no longer blasts rocking the ship, which made him feel nervous.

"I don't know," Aola said, "After you got knocked out, the ship just suddenly stopped."

Killian moved to the door and pressed his ear to it, and listened, but he couldn't hear anything from the other side.

He was about to say something when a loud bang sounded from the other side, followed by the sound of blaster fire and cursing.

"We've been boarded," Killian said, backing away from the door slowly.

"Mama and papa will be okay, right?" Aola asked, taking his hand in hers,

"They'll be fine," Killian said, turning to her, "They're Mandalorians. It'll take more than a few pirates to bring them down!"

Aola smiled a little at that but gripped his hand harder as the sounds of battle grew louder. Suddenly a voice was heard on the other side of the door,

"Check the rooms while we hunt down those two Mandalorian scum!"

"Maybe we should just leave. No one said anything about fighting a pair of Mandalorians," another voice added.

"Listen to me, you cowardly piece of filth!" The first voice said, "I've lost ten of my best men because of those two, and I'm not leaving without something to make up for it, so check the damn rooms or else!"

The second voice mumbled something that was suddenly drowned out by the sound of blaster fire and running, then it was quiet, aside from the sounds of doors opening one by one.

"This one's locked." A voice said outside the door, making Killian pull Aola into a hug to comfort her.

"Then blast it open!" A second female voice replied, making Killian grow pale as he suddenly began scanning the room, searching for a way out but finding nothing.

"Aola, I need you to listen to me, okay?" Killian said as he began to drag her towards the bed.

"You need to hide. Those pirates will get in here in a few seconds, and when they do, they must not find you. You know what pirates do to Twi'lek."

"What about you?" Aola whispered as he began to push her under the bed,

"There's not enough room for us both under there," Killian said, turning to look back at the door as the sound of blaster fire began to echo against it. "As soon as it's open, I'll make a run for it and draw them away. You stay here until it's safe, understand?"

Aola looked at him in fear, tears beginning to form in the corners of her eyes, "I'm the big sister. I'm supposed to protect you," she whispered, looking down. Killian smiled at her, pushing away the fear that churned in his stomach, and gently kissed her on the forehead,

"Well, today, I'm gonna protect you." He said softly, "Now stay right here and don't make a noise, okay?"

Aola nodded at him and shuffled back further under the bed until she was out of sight; Killian stood then and faced the door, readying himself for what was about to happen.

The door suddenly burst open to reveal a female Terrelian Jango Jumper and a male Weequay, both holding blasters and both looking at Killian with surprise,

"Well, well, well. So what do we have here?" The Weequay said as he slightly lowered his blaster and took a step closer to Killian. "The captain said we weren't leaving without some form of profit. Think he'll do?"

"Oh, I think he'll do nicely. Mandalorian children are much sought after on the slave market," The female replied back, sending a shiver up Killian's spine.

"You'll have to catch me first, scum!" Killian roared, lunging forward and kicking the Weequay hard between the legs.

The Weequay's eyes went wide, and he dropped with a whimper while the female looked at him in shock, which allowed Killian to sprint past her. As he rounded the corner, her heard new voices asking what happened, followed by the female Terrelian Jango Jumper roaring,

"Get that little brat!"

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"I've got to keep them away from Aola!" Killian thought as he rounded another corner, the sounds of his pursuers terrifyingly close behind him.

"While at the same time, not getting myself killed," he thought with a chuckle as he turned a corner and found himself standing in front of a dead human female. Seeing the dead body, he stopped short, unable to tear his eyes away, before shaking his head quickly, "This is no time to get distracted!" He thought angrily. He was about to continue running when he saw the blaster clutched in the human's hand, and carefully bent and picked it up, "This could come in handy," he thought as he started running again, as he rounded the corner into the living quarter, he stopped short in horror.

The living quarter had become a battlefield, with bodies lying everywhere and those that weren't dead, shooting from cover at Terra, who was bleeding from a wound on her leg and firing back.

"Mom!" Killian shouted as he raced into the room, firing at anything that moved. His eyes went wide at the realization of what he had said, but before he could dwell on it any longer, a female human turned to fire at him and promptly fell back from the wound in her chest that he had just fired.

"I just killed someone," Killian thought in horror as he dove for cover; his mind went blank at what he had done, and he felt strange power course through him as though his body acted by itself, as he rose and dropped two more pirates, before retaking cover.

"Somebody shoot that little brat already!" Someone yelled, and suddenly the couch that Killian was hiding behind began to be torn to shreds as everyone made him their new target.

"Killian!" He heard Terra scream, but he couldn't look at her as the power coursing through his body continued to act on its own, and he rose to drop another pirate.

"Screw this! Let's get out of here!" He heard someone shout, and suddenly there was the sound of boots running, followed by a louder voice roaring,

"Come back, you cowards! I'll skin the lot of you for this!"

Killian finally brought his body under control and peeked around the couch to see a male red Devaronian standing in front of him, pointing his blaster at Killian's face. Before he could even blink, the Devaronian stunned him, and his world went black.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Terra was in a bad way; there was no denying it, her leg had been hit from a lucky shot, and she was running out of ammo. Then she heard a sound that sent fear and surprise running through her in equal measure.

"Mom!"

Turning, she saw Killian racing into the room and quickly brought down a female pirate before diving behind a nearby couch. Her heart soared in pride at the shot before her mind caught up to what he had said, "He called me mom," she thought, tears forming in her eyes, as she rose and brought down another pirate.

Her eyes went wide in shock as he rose and killed two more pirates quickly before returning to cover, "How is he this good with a blaster?" she thought in amazement. "He's barely been able to hit the targets we've set out for him!"

Before she could ponder it any further, a red Devaronian (who she assumed was the captain based on his dress) roared in rage, "Somebody shoot that little brat, already!"

"Killian!" She screamed as she saw his cover being torn to pieces; she then watched in shock as he rose, confidently, as though the blasts weren't even there, and dropped another pirate.

"Screw this! Let's get out of here!" A female Weequay yelled as she ran from the room. Her terror must have been contagious because soon, the rest of the pirates were following her. At the same time, the red Devaronian roared in anger at them.

He turned to where Killian was hiding and began angrily walking toward it. At the same time, Terra looked on in anger and fear, she rose and pointed her blaster at him, and her face fell when she heard, "Click, click."

The Devaronian smiled at her, and she watched in horror as he shot Killian full in the face, stunning him. He then picked the boy up and slung him over his shoulder before walking to her and raising his blaster at her face with an evil grin.

"You killed most of my crew, so I think selling your brat and killing you is a fair trade, wouldn't you?" The Devaronian said with a laugh.

Before he could fire, there was a splash of blood across Terra's helmet as Argyle appeared behind him and began to fire, putting a round through his stomach, the Devaronian tuned and began to fire back as blood oozed from his wound. Argyle quickly took cover, and the Devaronian decided to run for it, disappearing down the hallway as Argyle ran to Terra's side,

"Are you okay, my love?" Argyle asked, kneeling next to her and examining the wound.

"He's got Killian, Argyle. You must stop him!" Terra growled as she grabbed his shoulder; Argyle nodded his head in understanding and sped from the room after the pirate.

He reached the hold just in time to see the pirate entering his ship, turning with a smile to shout at him, "Pleasure doing business with you, Mandalorian."

"NO!" Argyle roared, firing round after round at the pirate as the door closed and then detached.

Running as fast as he could, he reached the cockpit and tried to get the ship to move, but it was no use, the ship was dead, and he roared in rage as he watched the pirates disappear into hyperspace in a flash.

"Argyle?" A voice behind him said softly, making him turn slowly to see his wife pulling off her helmet, with tears in her eyes, "Tell me they didn't get away."

"I'm sorry, Terra," Argyle said, unable to meet her eyes, "I….I tried, but…."

"No…" Terra began to drop, and Argyle quickly jumped out of his seat to catch her, holding her tight as she began to sob into his armor. Suddenly she stopped and looked at him with red-rimmed eyes, "Aola, what about Aola?!" She jumped to her feet and hurriedly limped to Aola's room, followed closely by Argyle.

"Aola!" Terra yelled, "Where are you?!"

They both sighed in relief when they saw her slowly climb out from under the bed, and Terra grabbed her and pulled her into a tight embrace.

"What were you doing under there?" Argyle asked as he too began to hug the pair,

"Killian told me to hide. He said there wasn't enough room for both of us and that he would lure them away," Aola said quickly, "Where is he?"

Aola began to look for him but stopped when she saw the look on her parent's faces, her own face falling in dawning horror.

"Daddy, where is he?" She asked again, making Terra cry into her shoulder harder,

"He was taken, little one." Argyle said softly as he rose to his feet, making Aola cry in alarm, "But we are going to get him back, I promise."

"But the ship is busted," Terra said softly, pulling away from Aola and turning to face him. "How are we supposed to find them when we're dead in space?"

"One problem at a time, my love," Argyle said, placing his hand on her shoulders, "First we fix the ship, then we find our boy. And we kill anyone who tries to stop us."

Terra nodded darkly at him, her voice filled with rage as she limped out into the hall, "Let's get started, then."

Author's Note:

I hope you enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoyed working on it. This one took me a few days as I had to keep adding stuff and taking away stuff to make it sound better. To 'Guest' who sent me a PM saying there are no Twi'lek Mandalorians, I suggest you review the Old Republic comics, as there are quite a few, the most notable being a Twi'lek who fought in the Mandalorian Wars in 3964 BBY.
