Hi to everyone… I hope this finds you well and healthy… I just want to let you all know that I intend on bringing this Kelly thing to a quick end because I want to concentrate on the happy things. I also want to invite anyone to make suggestions of what they might like to see happen with our lovely ladies… I am ready to have them move past this little bit of drama into something more everyday like family times and Frankie's wedding… stuff like that… so please let me know if you want to me to include some fun scenarios. Also, I want to thank everyone who sent out words of encouragement… it is much appreciated and helped me get past some of the writers block I have been experiencing. Because of your kindness, I am also just a few chapters away from finishing my original and second book in my series. I hope to have if ready by mid July. And I might be a little late on the next chapter because I am taking a trip with my Mom and brother to the Grand Canyon at the end of the month… our first trip in over a year. I look forward to continuing all the fun and exciting things taking place in the Rizzoili-Isles household for a while and plan on taking this as far as it will let me. Anyway, take care and thanks so much for reading… it means a great deal to me.

Chapter 18

The light from the lamps lining the street Liam was parked on filtered in through the windows of his car, painting him in an iridescent glow. He had been sitting in his parked car for almost two hours waiting and watching the small loft apartment that was currently Kelly's residence and still nothing was happening. He had followed her home earlier that evening and was currently camped out waiting for something… anything to signify the gears were in motion to bring an end to her obsession with Maura. Unfortunately, things had been quiet, too quiet if he was being honest. Glancing at the pile of cell phones laying on the seat next to him, he silently willed one in particular to ring but it continued to stay silent as it mocked him. With a heavy sigh, he looked back at Kelly's place and settled back in his seat for a long night of surveillance. He wasn't taking any chances, especially when he knew the hammer would be dropping at any moment. But that wasn't the only reason. He recalled the day he had followed Kelly to Jane and Maura's house and how she had sat, waiting and watching, only to drive away after several hours of just sitting in her car. Her anger had been apparent as she drove past him, her face contorted in rage and her hands clenched around the steering wheel causing her knuckles to turn white. It was apparent that her anger was her only focus because she didn't see Liam sliding down in the driver's seat of his car as she drove away but he could see her and the anger he saw painted on her face made him shiver. He had taken to following her and he was glad he had because Jane and Maura had been completely unaware that she was lurking nearby, probably planning her next move, whatever that might be and he would be ready.

Before his mind could wander further, one of the phones sitting in the seat next to him began to vibrate and light up as it danced among the other silent phones. With a slight smirk, he grabbed the phone… the one that he had been willing to ring earlier, and flipped it open with a quick flick of his wrist.

"Yeah…?" He said into the receiver rather gruffly.

"It's done." Paddy's voice was hushed but strong. "Keep them safe… it won't be long now."

"I'm on it." Liam didn't hesitate in his answer.

"I'll be in touch..." Paddy said and then hung up.

Holding the phone out away from his face, Liam looked at it with a measure of curiosity as he slid the back off and pulled out the sim card and battery. Bending the sim card between his fingers, he broke it in half and dropped it into a small baggie with the battery and phone case to hand over to Frost. It was a burner phone but Frost would make sure that there was no trace of either of them having used it. With another heavy sigh, this time one filled with a touch of relief and uncertainty, he slid his finger over the zipper part of the bag and then dropped it on the floor of the car before turning his attention back to the dark apartment. He intended to watch and make sure Kelly didn't leave and if she did, he would follow her to ensure Jane and Maura's safety until the dust settled and they could all move on from this nightmare. Now that things were in motion, it shouldn't take long, at least that is what Liam thought as he settled back against his seat and waited for something to happen. Little did he know how quickly the world could turn upside down when one person was hell-bent on burning everything down around them, no matter who was in the way.

Waving goodbye to Valley, Jane let out a sigh of relief that she finally had a moment of reprieve after her busy morning. It was her day off so she had woken up at the crack of dawn to make Maura breakfast instead of sleeping in like she wanted to. Since Maura had returned to work after her maternity leave, Jane had taken to making their breakfast so they could share a quiet meal in the mornings before the chaos of life with kids took over. They usually got to spend an hour together, alone with adult conversation and today had been no different, except that Liam- or Li as they had taken to calling him- had woken up early and was a bit fussy. It was one of the reasons Jane had decided to drag out their huge stroller so she could walk Valley to preschool this morning instead of driving. It was just a little over a mile and the weather was beautiful so it had been a no-brainer to pack the kids up and spend some time outside.

After packing Maura a nice, healthy lunch so she wouldn't skip eating… something she was prone to do, Jane had walked her to the car and kissed her goodbye with the promise of something special for dinner. With a smile, Maura had promised her something extra special if they could get the kids to bed on time and it was a huge incentive for Jane as she figured the long walk in the fresh air would help tire them all out by the end of the day. She made a plan to pick Valley after school and take her to the park so she could expend some of the extra energy she had lately. It was a good plan, in fact, it would allow her to jog a bit to expend some of her own pent-up energy. Li seemed to enjoy the ride as he watched the world whiz by from his perch in the stroller and it helped settle him when he was restless.

With a final wave, Jane waited patiently until Valley had lined up with the other preschoolers to be led inside to their classrooms and then offered a few nods of acknowledgment to several parents she passed on her way along the sidewalk. Having to make small talk with people wasn't one of her favorite things to do which was why she tried to quickly put in her ear pods and set a brisk walking pace away from the hustle and bustle of parents milling about as they said goodbye to their children. All of this- the small talk, the feigning interest in other people's kids, everything about it was something Maura dealt with better than Jane and it was painfully obvious to most everyone she encountered that she wasn't interested in hearing the latest gossip. She thought that she might have seen Carly out of the corner of her eye but if it had been her cousin, she had no intention of interrupting what looked like an intense conversation involving several people she didn't know. 'I'll text her later…' she thought to herself as she pulled up her jogging playlist and hit play.

"You ready to go, Lil' Man?" Reaching into the stroller, she ruffled his dark hair before placing a small baseball hat on his head to shield him from the sun. He was already wearing his sunglasses, a pair handed down from Valley, more as a teething toy than anything else but sometimes he cooperated and wore them making him even cuter than he already was.

Jane laughed when Li giggled and kicked his feet out and waved his fists around in excitement. He knew exactly what was coming next. He loved going on jogs with his Mama and today was no exception.

With the catchy beats of Haley Kiyoko playing through her earbuds, she began a leisurely jog towards home as Li waved at passers-by. The morning air was cool with very little humidity but she knew it wouldn't be long before the heat set in bringing with it the heaviness that usually accompanied the humidity of the early summer days.

As her feet hit the ground in time with the music, she lost herself in the moment and the rhythm that spurred her on. In her mind, she thought about what she might make for dinner and how she could surprise Maura with something that wasn't take-out. Perhaps she would call her mother when she got home and ask for help in coming up with an idea, something that would be easy yet tasty. If it involved tomato sauce and pasta, she was pretty much a pro but she wanted to make something different tonight, something that would show Maura she had put in the effort to impress, and maybe, just maybe, Maura would show how much she appreciated the effort Jane made.

With thoughts of dinner and other errands she had to do before the end of the day on her mind, Jane continued to jog along the sidewalk, oblivious to the sound of feet following closely behind her. She was doing her best to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary like cars following and she thought she was doing pretty good paying attention until something entered into her peripheral and by then it was too late. The sun dimmed and the world turned upside down as her body was propelled off the embankment she was on and into a ditch at the bottom. The last thing she remembered before the darkness descended upon her like a rainstorm during a summer afternoon was the smug expression of someone who looked a lot like Kelly looking down at her from the top of the hill she had just fallen down.

"Hey, is everything alright?" Maura asked as Liam stepped into her office unannounced.

"Yeah, I just left Jane and the kids. She was going to walk Valley to school and I guess jog back with Li… she took that huge stroller you have… you know, the one that takes a degree in rocket science to figure out." Liam dropped down in the chair opposite Maura's desk. "I just thought I'd stop by and check on you."

"I'm good, but… um… we just saw each other this morning. Not much has changed since." Maura peered at Liam over the rims of her glasses as she tried to figure out what he really wanted. She studied him with a measured eye as he fidgeted slightly under her gaze and it made her realize she was happy that they had asked him to stay with them while they worked out the Kelly problem. "There's something you're not telling me, isn't there?"

For a minute, Liam was quiet as he contemplated what he wanted to say and how much he was willing to reveal about what was happening. He knew telling Maura that Paddy had called the night before would be a lot less stressful than telling Jane who had a habit of flying off the handle at the mention of the old Irish mobster but he also knew it was time to prepare themselves for anything once the 'shit hit the fan' as Jane had once so elegantly put it.

"You're here for a reason… no sense in putting it off. Just tell me." Maura sat back in her chair and crossed her arms with a heavy sigh. It had been a busy morning and she was tired but having Liam show up gave her a second wind, one that she wasn't sure she was ready for.

"Um, yeah… okay…" he stuttered slightly as he ran his fingers through his hair, causing it to stand up in the front. "Paddy called me last night while I was on surveillance."

"He did?" Maura sat up straighter and placed her elbows on the desk as she leaned forward.

"He did." Liam offered a small smile. He knew this was good news but he also had an uneasy feeling he couldn't quite place.

"Are you going to just sit there and quietly stare at me or are you going to tell me something?"

"So, that back door Frost and I came up with…" he took a deep breath before continuing. "It worked."

"Well, I think maybe you should tell me what you did." Maura tilted her head to regard Liam with a fixed gaze that brokered no argument.

"We went after Alan… um… I mean… we have dirt on him that I think he will want to bury… so we are using Kelly as leverage." Liam explained with a wry smile.

"I don't understand." Maura frowned. "Are you blackmailing him?"

"Something like that." Liam nodded. When Maura continued to look at him with a confused expression on her face he figured he needed to explain. "Alan is good at getting rid of other people's messes but it makes it more difficult for him to pay attention to his own. So, we found out what it is that he doesn't want to get out and we threatened to use it against him if he didn't send Kelly away with the promise she'd never return."

"You're having her father send her away like some sort of teenager in trouble?" Maura asked. "That… that's ridiculous. All you're doing is sending her off to be someone else's problem. How is that going to work?"

"Look…" Liam shifted uncomfortably in his seat under Maura's scrutiny. "It's the best we got at the moment. He controls her… or the money flow in this case. Without him, I'm not sure we could contain Kelly and we don't want to start an all-out war between the families. She'll listen to him or he'll cut her off. It's that simple…"

Clearing her throat, Maura interrupted Liam before asking him again. "How is that going to work? I think the only thing you're going to do is set her off on a rage. I can only hope that we aren't in the path of her terror when the time comes." Her voice cracked slightly as the thought of what could happen next washed over her.

"We have to end this, Maura. You know there is no simple answer to this problem but we're doing the best we can. I think she'll listen to her father…" he let out a frustrated sigh because now he was second-guessing his choices in the matter. Suddenly he looked around before turning his attention back to Maura with a raised eyebrow. "Um, where is Kelly? I didn't see her at her desk outside when I came in."

"Oh…" Maura pushed her glasses higher up her nose as she sat back in her chair again. "She went to get some more toner for the copier."

"What?" Liam shot out of his chair. "You let her leave?"

"What do you mean 'I let her leave?'" Maura seemed surprised by Liam's outburst. "She isn't a prisoner here. Besides, the copy place is on the corner… just a short walk away."

"How long has she been gone?" He asked worry etched across his forehead.

"I don't know… an hour maybe? Why?"

"I need to get back home and check on Jane and Li…" he said gruffly as he headed towards the door.

"What's going on Liam?" Maura asked, fear creeping up her spine. There was something he wasn't telling her and she wasn't about to let him leave without finding out.

"Look, I didn't want to worry you but Kelly's been stalking you… like sitting out in front of your house in her car and following you around town. I've been keeping a close eye on her but I figured it would be okay to stop by and let Jane take Valley to school since Kelly would be here with you all day."

"Are you saying that Jane may be in danger?" Maura shot out of her chair and across the room to where Alan was standing.

"She's probably fine but I want to make sure." He pulled his cell phone from his pocket and dialed Jane's number. After several rings, he frowned and hung up when it was apparent she wasn't going to answer. "Look, I'm going to go catch up with her at home. I'm sure she's just got her earphones in and is too out of breath to answer the phone at the moment. I'll call as soon as I find her… I mean, you know… when I get to the house where I'm sure she and Li are."

Nodding slowly, Maura acknowledged what Liam was saying to her even though she had that sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. "Yeah, okay…" she let out a heavy sigh as she pulled her glasses off and rubbed her tired eyes. "But maybe I'll leave a little early and meet you at home so I can make sure for myself."

"I'm sure everything is fine." Liam tried to do his best to convince Maura that everything was okay, but he wasn't sure if he was trying to convince her or himself.

"If it's all the same to you, I think I'm gonna head home as soon as I can."

"Okay…" Liam nodded his understanding as he headed towards the door. "Call me when Kelly gets back so I know where she is."

"I will and you do the same."

"That goes without saying..." Liam said over his shoulder. "I'll talk to you soon." He tried to reassure but even he was feeling an uncertainty he couldn't quite place.

Maura watched Liam leave with the heavy feeling of dread pressing down on her. It was a feeling she had become accustomed to over the years Jane was a detective… the uncertainty that she would or wouldn't come home at the end of the day had become unbearable and it was one of the reasons that Jane had decided to step down and take a job at the academy teaching. She went back to her desk and sat down with a heavy sigh before dropping her head into her hands. An overwhelming feeling that something was very wrong settled over her and she had the sudden urge to leave, to go home and make sure for herself that Jane was alright. Shuffling around a few papers, she checked her schedule to see if maybe her PA could take the rest of her appointments and to her relief, she found that the last three were routine check-ups. There were two after lunch she would need to take herself but then she could leave the rest in the capable hands of her new physician's assistant, Tanner.

With that decision made, Maura felt a bit better knowing that she would get to go home early, maybe even in time to walk with Jane and Li to pick up Valley from school at three-thirty. But then her phone started to ring, distracting her from thoughts of home and family and when she glanced down at it, she saw it was an unknown number. Normally she wouldn't answer it, instead of leaving it to her voice mail in case it was a spam call, but something inside of her spurred her into action. Grabbing the phone, she slid the button up and brought it to her ear.

"Dr. Rizzoli-Isles…" she said into the receiver and waited on bated breath for the person on the other end to identify themselves.

"Um, yes… we have this number listed as an emergency contact for Jane Rizzoli-Isles, is that correct?" A disembodied voice spoke from somewhere far away.

Maura swallowed around the lump that had formed in her throat as she croaked out a meek "yes…" in answer to the question. Her vision was beginning to dim and her heart began to race.

"We have received an impact signal from her smartwatch and cannot reach her via her cell phone. We wanted to notify you of her last GPS coordinates."

"Impact signal?" Maura sounded confused as she rubbed at her forehead.

"Yes, an impact signal is when the smartwatch is hit hard like in an accident such as a fall or car accident. Anything that can cause a hard hit to the watch… it could be nothing but…" the operator's voice trailed off. "I sent you a text message with the coordinates. Would you like us to notify anyone else?"

"Um, yes… Jane's brother, Frankie…" Maura started to say but stopped short of finishing when her office door flew open to reveal a slightly disheveled Kelly.

"Hang up the phone, Maura." Kelly glared at Maura.

"What?" Maura's mouth dropped open in surprise.

Taking a few long strides across the room, Kelly stepped up to Maura's desk and snatched her phone from her hand, and slammed it down on the corner of the desk, shattering it to pieces.

"Why on earth did you do that?" Maura jumped up from her chair, ready for a fight. This was it, she'd had enough and now she was going to put an end to whatever this was.

"Let's go, you're coming with me." Kelly reached out to grab Maura by the arm only to have it quickly pulled away. "Don't fight me on this or I won't tell you where I left my car parked."

"I don't understand... what you're doing? Why would I want to know where you parked your car?"

"Because I left the baby in it and… well, it's starting to warm up a bit… it'd be a shame if we didn't get back to him before this heat got to him." Kelly offered a smug grin as she turned to head towards the door, confidant that Maura would follow.

The smug grin that slid across Kelly's face made Maura want to slap it off but she refrained from doing anything to provoke the woman when she mentioned a baby. Maura knew without asking who she was talking about but she still had to ask. "What baby, Kelly?"

"Why, baby Liam, of course… who else would I be talking about?" Kelly spun around and batted her eyelashes at Maura innocently. "Look, I'll give you a choice…" the malice of those words rang heavy in the air as Kelly continued to look at Maura with a mixture of awe and contempt. "I can tell you where Jane is… or you can come with me and make sure Liam is okay. Either way, I win."

This was it, the test of all tests. Maura knew that the last thing she should do was go with Kelly but she didn't have a choice. If it was true that she had Liam, Maura had to ensure his safety, even at the expense of her own and Jane's. The phone call had confirmed that something had happened and that Kelly was probably telling the truth, so there was no time to waste. All she could do was hope that the operator she spoke to was able to look up Frankie as the secondary emergency contact and let him know where Jane was.

"Okay, I'll come with you…" Maura pulled her white coat off and dropped it in her seat before grabbing her purse.

"Oh, you won't need that." Kelly pointed at Maura's purse and then smiled when Maura dropped it without question. It made her feel good to be in control and now, things were going her way. Once she had Maura away from all the distractions, she could plead her case that they should be together. One way or another, she would be in control of how this ended.

For a second, Maura hesitated as she tried to think of a way to stall but then she realized it was futile. They didn't have time to wait if Liam was sitting in a hot car and that thought alone spurred her into action. The weight of her smartwatch on her wrist gave the slightest bit of hope, especially if Kelly didn't notice it. She gave her arm a little shake so her sleeve could fall and cover the watch, hoping that Kelly wouldn't see. A little sigh of relief escaped her lips when Kelly turned around to lead her from the office. Reaching down, she placed a hand over the watch, squeezing it as she plotted how she would use it to notify someone she was in danger… the same way it had notified her about Jane. Hopefully, she would be able to trigger the impact sensor when they stopped this cat and mouse game and it would lead Jane, Liam, Frankie, and Frost right to them. With one final glance over her shoulder at her office, she felt the weight of the world on her shoulders. She still didn't know if Jane was alright but she also knew that ensuring Li's safety was first and foremost at the moment even if it did break Maura's heart to have to make the choice.

YYY

Sunlight filtered in through the tree branches that hung above Jane as she lay on her back in a pile of dirt and leaves. Every muscle in her body hurt, including her head and it caused her to clamp her eyes shut tight against the assault of light that made it hurt worse. For a moment, she did her best to take stock of what hurt and how serious the injuries might be as she did a mental scan of her body. Her right ankle throbbed and only hurt worse when she tried to move it so she marked that in the injured column. Her left elbow and shoulder hurt worse than her ankle and she hadn't even tried to move them yet so she knew there maybe some broken or fractured bones to deal with. But the pain in her forehead was far worse than anything she was feeling at the moment. Reaching up with her right hand, she felt something warm, wet, and sticky running down her face and realized it was blood. She had a large gash over her left eye and even though the bleeding had slowed to almost nothing, her face was covered in the sticky goo.

As she lay there, taking inventory of her injuries, the sudden realization that she didn't know where Li was caused her to abruptly sit up and push through the pain that shot through her body. Looking around for her son, she was relieved to see that he wasn't down there with her. She couldn't imagine what would have happened if he had fallen down the embankment with her but with the realization that she was alone came the cold fear that he was alone and given the fact that she had blacked out, she had no idea how long he had been alone. Scrambling up to her feet, she groaned as her ankle gave way under her weight but she had no intention of letting a sprained ankle stop her from getting to Li. Using her right hand, she shielded her eyes from the sun that was higher in the sky than she remembered, indicating some time had passed while she was passed out. Again, fear gripped at her at the thought of Li being alone. She reached in her pocket for her phone only to find that it was empty because she had left it in the stroller. With a heavy sigh, she realized she was pretty much screwed until she saw her smartwatch blinking with an impact warning flashing across the screen. Relief washed over her at the sight because she knew that it would notify her emergency contacts and help should be on the way. Or at least she thought it should be but the thought that some time had passed caught her off guard. Even though she didn't know how long she had been down there, help should have arrived by now, and fear washed over her again.

Looking up the embankment, it became painfully obvious she wasn't going to get to the top without assistance. But she had to, Li was alone and she had to get to him any way she could. So as carefully as possible, she attempted to pull herself up higher until she realized that her left shoulder wasn't cooperating. Pain shot through her when she tried to lift her arm and the more she tried, the more it hurt. The sudden realization that she had dislocated it almost knocked the wind out of her. Having to climb out the ditch she was in was hard enough without having to add the fact that she only had one working arm at the moment. Dropping down into the dirt in a heap, she let out a frustrated sob as tears started pooling in her eyes at the thought of Li being alone and it killed her to know she couldn't get to him.

Seconds ticked along to minutes and with a heavy heart, Jane feared she would be stuck there for hours so instead of wallowing, she decided to recount what had happened and how she had ended up where she was. The last thing she could remember was something or someone hitting her in the side, kind of like being tackled, except she didn't see anyone. The wind had been knocked out of her but she wasn't sure if it was from the impact that sent her over the edge or that actual ground she had landed on, but whatever had happened had been so quick she didn't have time to react. And then it occurred to her that it hadn't been an accident and anger burned in the pit of her stomach because it then that she knew without a shadow of a doubt who had pushed her. It was the memory of Kelly's face hovering over her… it had to have been her, but before she could finish that thought, a familiar voice called to her.

"Jane, Jane… are you there?" Frankie called down as he looked over the edge.

"Frankie… I'm here…" She shouted and tried to wave her arms to catch his attention.

"She's down there…" he said to someone before a firefighter appeared next to him. Jane watched as Frankie talked to the man before the firefighter disappeared again. "He's going to get his repelling stuff, Jane. They're gonna have to repel down to get you. Are you okay? Is anything broken?"

"I don't think so but I dislocated my shoulder, I think."

"Alright, just hold tight and someone will be down to get you..." Frankie said.

"Hey, Frankie… is Li okay?"

Frankie hesitated before disappearing only to be replaced by several firefighters as they prepared to repel down. Jane watched with trepidation as they threw their ropes down and started to climb over the edge. It wasn't that she was far away, it was just awkward with no real way of climbing up without help. So she did her best to wait patiently for her rescuers.

It didn't take long for them to get Jane to the top where EMTs immediately started to check her out. She was surprised to find Frankie, Frost, Korsak, and Liam waiting for her along with a handful of patrol officers, EMTs, and firefighters.

As one EMT officer tended to her cut, cleaning it and placing gaze over to stem the bleeding, another evaluated her dislocated shoulder. While she was being worked on, she looked around for Frankie or anyone who could tell her what had happened to Li but no one seemed to be able to stop long enough to answer her. A feeling of uncertainty settled over her when they started to rope off the area with crime tape and several more detectives showed up.

"Hey, we're gonna haveta pop that back into place…" the young EMT with 'Joe' written on his name tag said as he reached for Jane's left arm. "It's gonna hurt like hell but once it's back, the pain should subside… a little."

"Yeah, do what ya gotta do…" Jane said as she looked over his shoulder to see if she could catch Frankie's attention. When Joe lifted her arm, she let out a yelp of pain but then gritted her teeth and waited for it to be over with.

"Hey, Rich… wanna come give me a hand getting her shoulder back in the socket?" Joe called out to his partner.

Without saying a word, Rich moved to stand next to Jane and offer his assistance. Glancing down at her, he gave her a reassuring nod as Joe grabbed her wrist and pulled her arm forward and straight out in front before giving it a gentle tug causing it to slip back into the joint with a soft pop. Jane had been holding her breath as she waited and when it was done, she let out a heavy breath and rolled her eyes in relief. Rich gave her a light pat on the back before leaving her to Joe's capable hands.

"That should feel much better… but I gotta get you a sling." He said as he began to rummage through his bag.

Before Jane could say or do anything, Frankie finally came to her side but he radiated nervous energy that set her on edge. She watched as he fidgeted under her gaze while Joe slipped the sling over her neck before putting her arm in it. When Joe touched her forehead, she winced and closed her eyes tight against the pain that shot through her head, followed by nausea that usually accompanied a concussion.

"I think we're gonna need to get you to the hospital to have this checked out." Joe pointed at Jane's forehead. "Everything else is pretty superficial but you're gonna need some stitches and possibly have to stay overnight for observation."

"Nah, I'll just get my wife to stitch me up." Jane tried to wave Joe off but when Joe glanced at Frankie who now had a pained expression on his face, she lost her temper and lashed out. "What the hell is going on? Where is Li? Why won't anyone tell me anything?" Her voice rose with her anxiety as she looked at Frankie for answers.

Swallowing hardt, Frankie reached out to put his hand on Jane's non-injured shoulder. "Um… Jane…" he paused as he tried to find the words.

"What the fuck, Frankie… spit it out. Tell me what's going on!"

"Maura and Li are missing…" his voice faltered slightly. "But we're on it. We have a BOLO for them and Kelly too."

The ringing in Jane's ears grew to a deafening volume as she tried to make sense of what Frankie was saying. Glancing around at her friends… Frost, Liam, and Korsak, and then her brother again, she felt her world tilt and the nausea she was fighting won as she emptied the contents of her stomach at Joe's feet. The pain above her eye took over as she leaned forward to heave again, but this time nothing came. "How could this happen?" She whispered, her voice hoarse from the acid bubbling up in her throat.

"Jane, we'll find them." Frankie tried to reassure. "But you need to get patched up if you want to be of any help. So please let them take you to the hospital."

"Over my dead body…" she ground out through clenched teeth as she looked up at her brother.

"Well, if you don't get that head injury checked out… it might come to that..." Joe said sternly.

"Do what you need to do… but I'm not going anywhere until we find Maura and our son." Jane glared at Frankie daring him to argue.

With a resolved nod, Frankie understood that it was futile to argue with Jane. He also knew that nothing would stop her until Maura and Li were found. He couldn't help but feel proud of his sister but at the same time, he was afraid for her as well. They had been lucky to find her when they did. If it hadn't been for her smartwatch, they might still be looking for her. He just hoped that they could find Maura and Li quickly because the longer they were missing, the harder it would be to find them.

Jane braced herself for an argument that never came. She was thankful Frankie had accepted that she wasn't going to the hospital. Joe on the other hand was still looking at her with skepticism, but she didn't care. In fact, she didn't care about anything other than finding Maura and Li. Nothing was going to stand in the way of her finding them… nothing… not a dislocated shoulder… not a concussion… not a sprained ankle… nothing would keep her from Maura. Taking a deep breath to center herself, she let it out slowly and turned to Frankie with a new resolve.

"Let's go get them and bring them home." She said as she pushed herself up on shaky legs. It didn't matter how much pain she was in or how dizzy she was… she wasn't going to sleep until her family was safe and sound back at home again. And if that meant she had to suffer a little in the process, then so be it… she'd give her life for theirs without question. It was time to finish this thing… once and for all, it was going to end and hopefully, they would walk away unscathed. But she knew if Kelly had her way, their happily ever after would have a different ending… one she wasn't willing to accept.
