Chapter 5
Hayato Gokudera would rarely admit that he didn't have much luck in his life. He knew that he was a bastard child and was barely tolerated to begin with save for being talented in playing the piano, he knew that striking out on his own was foolish but he wanted to be respected based on his own merit and strength instead of whatever Famiglia he belonged to and yes he knew that his temper didn't win him any favors and would probably be the reason for his death somewhere in an empty ditch.
Course though, he sometimes chalked his bad attitude up to being a Storm. He always heard how Storm Flame Users are hot headed idiots with short tempers with Clouds being worse since they're so focused on creating their own territory and picking fights with others.
Yeah… safe to say it's no wonder he didn't have much confidence in himself and was probably suicidal in a way especially in the way he used his explosives.
So when he felt the cold steel of a sickle (that was magically summoned of all things!) pressed against his throat by the Decimo heir Tsuna Black (wasn't his last name supposed to be Sawada?) who looked at him with indifference and told him to stand down if he valued his life, he realized he really fucked up big time when he made the claim of wanting to be the Vongola heir.
He also realized that Tsuna probably wouldn't hesitate to kill him and felt his neck bleeding a little when the spiky brown haired boy told him a second time to stand down and mentioned that he killed things that were more of a challenge then someone like him.
(He admitted that comment had hurt a little, but he wondered what Tsuna was talking about. Was it something U.M.A. related?)
And so he admitted defeat and bowed down to beg for forgiveness while ignoring the cackles and comments of the little Sun troll that is Reborn. He explained that he was just bluffing and only wanted to be the right hand of the Vongola. He also pledged his undying loyalty towards Tsuna and hoped that the teen was feeling merciful towards someone like him.
When he heard that Tsuna already had a Storm Guardian amongst his Guardian Set (Whoever this Ingrid woman was, she must be really strong and probably a bit scary), he got rather depressed and felt his dream was forever out of reach. However, hearing Tsuna say that it didn't say anywhere that he needed only a single flame user from each flame type to make a full guardian set struck a chord within him as he looked up and saw that his eyes were alight with sky flames as he suddenly made a speech about him taking his life seriously and taking care of himself along with proving it by working hard and being loyal to the point he would follow Tsuna into hell itself.
It… really gave him hope.
And when Tsuna held out his hand and asked him if they had a deal, he took it without hesitation. That's when he felt the purity and power of Tsuna's Sky Flames.
Say what you will about him, but one thing Gokudera knew about Sky Flames in general along with the other Flame Types was that they were said to be a reflection of the soul of the person to whom they belonged to and showed what that person really was to begin with.
What he felt when his flames touched Tsuna's was nothing short of exhilarating. The Sky Flames of the teen were powerful and he bet they were more powerful than Nono Vongola's. While pure as well, there was a hint of blood and darkness to them that felt rather inhumane almost as if they belonged to a monster or demon of sorts.
That made the silver-haired bomber chuckle to himself. If Tsuna really was a demon, either half or otherwise then he very well did make a "Deal with the Devil".
Ironically enough, that didn't bother him one bit. He was already damned for being part of the mafia to begin with, what's the harm in experiencing even more damnation?
Reborn watched with amusement as Gokudera interacted with the rest of Tsuna's Guardians. They seem to have accepted him into the group quite easily, though he noticed that the moss haired teen (he doubts he's a teen to begin with) Roronoa Zoro was kinda aloof towards him but seemed to tolerate the silver-haired teen.
"So, getting along with Gokudera?" He teased Zoro and wasn't bothered when he got glared at by him.
"Tch, the kid's alright." Zoro grumbled before looking back at the group. "Sure he's kind of an idiot and a short-tempered brat, but he's got his heart in the right place however misguided it may be. What's it to you?" He questioned the short baby-like man.
Reborn shrugged. "Just making sure that everything is going alright. A new bond can be quite volatile especially if the new element cannot get along with the others. Even more so if they're a Cloud or a Storm."
"Well you don't need to worry, we all get along no matter how often we might get on each other's nerves. The only thing we would argue about is what to watch for group movie night." He said with a chuckle as he saw the group laugh about something which caused Gokudera to blush from embarrassment. "Course though, me and Ingrid do argue at times which leads to fights but they end quickly."
"Really? Sounds like you have a rivalry with this Ingrid woman." Reborn said with a teasing glint in his eyes, though he wondered if Ingrid was Tsuna's first Guardian.
The moss-haired swordsman rolled his eyes. "Eh, somewhat. I just like to see which of us is the strongest since that demon secretary is a master of the sword just like I am."
"Oh? And just how good at the sword are you?" Reborn asked with a raised eyebrow especially at the comment of Ingrid being known as a "Demon Secretary", and actually flinched a bit when Zoro smirked at him with eyes glowing rather red as if he was amused at the question.
"Hehehe, let's just say that I'm strong enough to have been known as the World's Strongest Swordsman back in my time along with being able to cut apart the landscape." The demonic swordsman laughed which made a chill run down Reborn's spine as he shivered a bit from hearing that laugh.
He had a feeling that if Zoro and the Varia's Rain ever met it would be a bloodbath.
Tsuna stared at the small child in the cow onesie, wondering where the kid came from and glanced over at Reborn who had a resigned look on his face at seeing the kid.
"Reborn, explain."
The small hitman sighed. "The brat's name is Lambo and is part of the Bovino Famiglia, a rather weak family that has a powerful firearm arsenal. They're quite a mad family so it's best not to associate with them unless you need something." He said with a sniff.
That comment apparently made Lambo upset as he yelled at Reborn and pulled out a Battleaxe from his large poofy hair and threatened him with it. However, it was yanked out of his hands by Tsuna who glared at the cow themed kid. "Lambo right? Unless you want a spanking I'd suggest you knock it off." He hissed at him which caused the kid to cry a bit.
"A-a-alright… I will be good." Lambo sniffled as his stomach suddenly rumbled which made the Dhampir sweat drop.
"Okay, sounds like you're hungry. What would you like?" He asked and the small cow child said grapes so he went downstairs to the kitchen to get a bowl of grapes for the kid.
That made Lambo very happy and he thanked Tsuna by hugging him while crying.
Tsuna sighed, it seemed like Lambo wasn't that bad of a brat after all. He was just a kid who wanted attention and latched onto those who would give him affection and positive reinforcement. And from what Reborn said, he was an orphan with only his aunt taking care of him as the others were too busy or didn't like the kid very much.
"Well little buddy, looks like you might be staying with us for a while." The Dhampir said as he patted Lambo's afro. His hair was fluffier than his, it was kinda funny when you think about it. Though he did raise an eyebrow at finding more weapons in his hair.
Seriously, how was he able to stuff them all into there?
That made Lambo happy, especially when Tsuna introduced him to his mom and his guardians and told them about the kid's situation.
He had a feeling that Ingrid would love him, given that the Hell Knight had a soft spot for kids and had a cousin living with her for a while. He'd met Dolores before and while a shut in, the demon girl was nice once you got over her NEET-like antics and gaming addiction.
Something that Ingrid was trying her hardest to curtail.
However, when the 10-Year Bazooka came out. Things got a little odd and weird.
Fifteen year old Lambo was a pretty chill guy, though when he talked about the adventures that he had with Tsuna and his guardians got him some raised eyebrows especially the one with the odd ninja girls.
Wait… odd ninja girls? Oh by the Blood Matron don't tell him.
"Hold up Lambo, what do you mean about ninja girls?" He asked Lambo and hoped it wasn't what he thought.
"Oh yeah, about that one." Teen Lambo said slowly as he scratched his head. "A couple of days after you gave one hell of a beatdown to this weird pineapple guy who had Mist Flames these two ladies showed up, one posed as the new Science Teacher and other posed as a new student. Reborn said there was something off about them and you used this weird eye power to see who they really were and told us not to worry, but to be careful around them. After that this weird cyborg ninja girl showed up and picked a fight with you all because you were old man Black's grandson." 15 year old Lambo said as Tsuna's fears were confirmed. "I don't remember much of what was going on at the time, but the cyborg girl had hurt Gokudera really badly which made you go berserk and turn into this flaming vampire-like creature. You pretty much gave her a beating and were gonna kill her until this blonde lady related to mama came rushing by and got you to calm down while telling the previous ninja ladies to leave you alone and that you weren't like Black."
After that, the Bazooka's time limit was up and child Lambo was back giggling rather happily.
Tsuna sighed, this information dump made him wanna drink. It sounded like it was inevitable that he would encounter the Taimanin and deal with their antics. Though he did wonder about the blonde woman that teen Lambo told him about. He didn't remember his mother having any sisters though she did mention he had an aunt Felicia that she didn't really get along with and hadn't spoken to in a long time. So whoever the blonde woman is, she might be a Taimanin.
He had a feeling that grandfather knew about the woman and was tempted to call him, but decided not to. If Grandpa Edwin didn't say anything about her then perhaps it wasn't important or maybe he was expected to find out about her himself. Either way, this revelation was a complete mindfuck and it gave him a headache the more he thought about it.
"So, who are these ninja girls that Lambo's future version talked about?" Reborn asked curiously and Tsuna glanced at him wondering if it was worth it but deciding he had nothing to lose if he told him about them.
"They're called Taimanin. All you need to know is that they're Anti-Demon Ninjas who fight Demons and Corrupt Humans. They're not exactly a bad group, they're just rather annoying."
That was fine with the small hitman, he's had his fair share of dealing with rather annoying people and avoiding them if he could help it. However, he did warn Tsuna that they will up his training in the far off chance they encounter them earlier than usual.
Although, Reborn had a feeling he himself had known about them before. Back when he was making a name for himself he had an encounter with a rather young looking woman.
He just couldn't remember her full name at the moment.
All that he remembers was that her name was Seishu.
Tsuna yawned rather boredly as he dodged the poisoned knives the Bianchi threw at him. Ever since that woman showed up she seemed intent on ruining his cooking with her poison skills.
Apparently, she had something of a romantic history with Reborn and thought that killing him would "free" the hitman of his duties as a tutor. Whatever the case may be, the Poison Scorpion was fucking crazy and needed some serious professional help along with being locked up for a long ass time and away from others.
Especially from Gokudera once he heard about the story with the poison cookies. Seriously, Gokudera's father was a fucking dumbass for letting that happen and if the half-vampire ever meets the guy he was gonna kick his ass.
"If that woman doesn't leave I'm going to kill her." He said flatly.
Gokudera looked at him oddly before he explained himself. "She tried to poison the grapes I had for Lambo, either she leaves or she dies. I don't care that she's your sister, anyone who is that deranged shouldn't be around people, especially children."
Gokudera couldn't disagree with that. Still though, Bianchi was still his sister and while he didn't want anything to do with her he hoped that she would leave on her own and not bother him or anyone else again.
Eventually, Tsuna got fed up with Bianchi's antics and soon knocked her flat on her ass and put her into a headlock much to Reborn's and Gokudera's amusement.
"Listen here poison bitch." The half-vampire hissed at the older teen who flinched at hearing the noise and didn't say anything. "I am really sick of your shit! You've done nothing but cause trouble all because you're obsessed with Reborn. I don't really give a shit on the history between the two of you, but you need to stop since you've involved way too many people in this little stunt of yours and tried to have Lambo poisoned. Plus the fact that Reborn looks like a toddler makes this situation creepy and beyond fucked up."
That little rant got Bianchi blushing from embarrassment as she thought about it. She was only enamored with Reborn due to having a long list of shitty boyfriends that didn't last long and the fact that the little hitman was pretty much a "safe option" for her despite him having his own fair share of past sexual conquests as well. She was used to being hated amongst other things, but she sure as hell didn't want to be labeled a pedo.
That title got you killed in the Mafia pretty quick.
Bianchi apologized for causing so much trouble along with apologizing to Reborn for troubling him so much with her love problems.
Reborn was amused by the chaos she caused, but admitted that Bianchi needed to move on from him.
After that, she got an apartment that was a couple blocks away. So while they didn't get rid of her they rarely saw her unless they crossed paths by some random chance.
Either way, things returned to normal somewhat.
Ingrid had a day off today so she was hanging out at the house. She was quite surprised at seeing Reborn until Tsuna told her what the little hitman was so she relaxed a little bit but was still suspicious of him.
She and Lambo got along great and the half-vampire was amused that the Hell Knight was surprised to find so many weapons in the little Bovino's poofy afro after trying to comb it.
Gokudera was rather intimidated after meeting the pink haired woman and could see why she was Tsuna's first Guardian. However, Ingrid looked at him curiously and asked the silver-haired teen if he was related to a woman named Lavina.
"Y-you k-knew my mother?" Gokudera stuttered out as Ingrid nodded slightly.
"Somewhat, she once played the piano during a Company Charity Event years ago. Lord Black was impressed by her musical skills and was saddened when he heard about her death. He once heard she was suffering from a fatal illness and tried to refer her to our doctor for treatment, but she declined saying she didn't want to bother anyone about it." She exclaimed and Gokudera was shocked at hearing that as he thought that she died by his bastard father's hand. Either way, it did bring him some closure over her death.
After that, Ingrid and Tsuna watched a movie together with the rest of the group hanging around or doing something in their spare time.
However, their movie time was interrupted a bit by the door bell ringing so Reborn got up to answer it and opened the door revealing a man with dark-brown hair with some beard stubble wearing a long white coat signifying him to be a doctor of sorts.
"Ciaossu Shamal! What are you doing here?" Greeted Reborn as Shamal came inside smiling rather sheepishly at the small hitman.
"Ciaossu Reborn, lets just say I pissed off a Queen so I'm in need of a place to hide until the heat dies down hehehe." He laughed a bit until he saw Ingrid on the couch and suddenly he had hearts in his eyes. "Well hello there beautiful, aren't you just a lovely flower." He said in a flirty tone ignoring the annoyed look on the Hell Knight's face along with the teen he assumed was Reborn's new student and the kid on his lap that looked like he was from the Bovino Famiglia.
"Shamal, that's a very bad idea…" Reborn tried to warn his friend, but was ignored as Shamal continued to flirt with Ingrid and tried to grope her chest.
Big mistake on his part. The minute that the womanizing doctor got close to the pink-haired woman, his arm was grabbed by Tsuna who glared at the man with eyes blazing. "Try to touch Ingrid, my mom or any of the girls here and you're dead you fucking pervert." He hissed out and that scared the doctor as he gave out a yelp as he was thrown into a wall.
"I told you Shamal." Reborn said in a deadpan tone as Shamal got up and looked at Tsuna with a wary look. "Tsuna is quite protective of his Guardians, especially the girls. As befitting the Decimo Heir to the Vongola." Cue the girls hugging Tsuna with Ingrid hugging the teen close to her chest as she glared at Shamal and flipped him off.
"Shit! That kid's the Vongola's heir?!" Shamal cursed out, ignoring his jealousy as he got a good look at the teen who's eyes glowed with amusement at hearing his shock. Yeah… he wasn't gonna piss the kid off by trying to flirt with his female Guardians. There were still plenty of ladies around town he could flirt with though he did wonder what the hissing was all about until he got a good look at Tsuna's ears and noticed they were slightly pointed at the tip and he had to bite back a curse.
Did the Vongola know that their heir was part vampire?!
