I finally have wifi again so I'm updating, if anyone has any requests let me know

I love writing a friendship between these two, the rivalry created within the fandom and the Kikyo anti's is exhausting

I hope you enjoy the update

Kagome hesitated, she knew she had reasons to hate Kikyo, she knew anyone else would hold a grudge against her. But she couldn't bring herself to, she couldn't find a reason to hate Kikyo, all she could do was pity and empathise. Kikyo had never been her enemy, they had never had a reason to see each other as rivals. Though Naraku tried to pit them against each other, so Kagome would be consumed by darkness and Kikyo would be destroyed. She had always known that InuYasha was Kikyo's first love and the sentiment was returned, he had never loved anyone the way he did her, even in death he never forgot her. Kikyo and InuYasha shared a connection from the moment they met, a lonely priestess who longed to be a normal woman. A lonely half breed torn by his mixed blood, forever resentful of his weakened state and wished he could be more powerful. Kikyo loved InuYasha for who he was and InuYasha saw a part of himself in Kikyo, two souls bonded. They never stopped loving one another, his deepest regret was knowing she died hating him because of Naraku, he could never shield her from her pain. Kikyo felt immense guilt for the people she hurt, she held regrets for the mistakes she made in life. InuYasha was the one person whom had seen Kikyo for her real self and loved her regardless. InuYasha had met someone whom he could fully be himself around, to lower his guard. That love they felt for one another still resided, Kikyo was irreplaceable in his heart. Kikyo never stopped loving InuYasha, even after her death, he had gifted her with his mother's rouge and he had been willing to become human for her sake. Two of them prepared to make sacrifices for the other so they could be together. The way they sought each other out, they came running to the other, when the other was in danger they sensed it. Running to one another to protect them from harm. Kikyo had always said InuYasha's life belonged to her, she would never let another person, be they human or demon harm him. InuYasha would never let another man lay his hands on Kikyo, he would never let another man steal her from him.

"InuYasha... you...you still love him don't you?" she asked, jealousy, anger, bitterness, sadness, all caused by love. Her jealousy towards Kagome, that InuYasha had developed feelings for another woman that wasn't her, that he was sharing his life with someone else. The anger that her future that could have been was ripped away from her. The bitterness that time couldn't be undone and she would never be able to go back and change it. The anger at her fate, the anger that Naraku was responsible for her pain, her demise. The sadness of accepting her reality, that she could never be with InuYasha again. InuYasha was the first man she had ever opened her heart to, the first person she had ever developed romantic feelings for. A half demon who should have been considered her enemy, but became her lover instead. Kikyo lowered her guard, lessened her boundaries and opened her heart to him, letting him in, she gave him her complete trust and even considered a future with him. Kaede had stated on multiple occasions that she had never seen her sister act that way around anyone before. Kikyo embraced her femininity and identity as a woman because of InuYasha, she stopped being a priestess, a protector, a warrior all for him. Merely acting as a woman, letting him see her weaknesses, she was ready to abandon her responsibilities as a priestess to become his wife.

Kikyo stiffened, her body turning rigid and defensive, pain filling her brown eyes her eyes flickered with tears and bitterness. She hated remembering, she hated thinking of her past, for all it did was cause her more pain. Those happy days, those treasured memories of when she was alive. The first kiss she ever shared with InuYasha while he held her in his arms during a sunset, holding her close to his chest. The moment she knew she loved him deeper than anyone, the moment InuYasha knew he wanted to spend his life with her. Her chest aching with longing and sadness, how she wished he would hold her in his arms like that once more.

Yes

She still loved InuYasha, she would never stop loving him, even in death he still meant everything to her. She would never love another man, another half breed like she loved him. Watching her reincarnation relive the same moments, seeing herself in Kagome and knowing she would never have that again. How could she not be bitter about that? The connection they had always shared, it could never be severed.

Kagome softened, seeing the sadness in her incarnations eyes, knowing the pain it caused Kikyo remember her life. That once Kikyo had been a teenager like herself, unsure of her future, burdened with responsibility and experiencing love for the first time. Seeing the lonely and unfortunate soul that she was, the ghost of a woman who was killed for loving a half breed. A bitter man who sought her for himself killed her out of jealousy to obtain power, Naraku scornful of the fact that Kikyo was in love with another man. She couldn't hate Kikyo for that, she couldn't bring herself to curse Kikyo for merely wishing she could be with the man she loved. In life she was beloved by villager's, respected and seen as a mentor, a friend and a guide. She was a powerful priestess, the first one with such potency since Midoriko, that even Naraku saw her as a threat. She protected the Shikon Jewel from corruption and even took it to her grave in order to protect it from evil. Even her sister still admired her, the person that taught her everything she knew and mentored her in her own path to become a priestess. How could she hate Kikyo for loving InuYasha? For experiencing such a human feeling, that everyone was guilty of? They had a life together before she was ever even born, she was the one to cause InuYasha to trust humans, the one that made him feel safe.

They shared the same soul, it was fortuitous that Kagome would fall for InuYasha too, she was merely repeating the same history as fifty years ago. Kikyo and InuYasha's love transcended time, it passed decades, generations, Kikyo would always love him. The jewel resonated Kikyo's feelings for him and caused them to pass onto Kagome. Kikyo longed for the past that was ripped from her, the life she never got to live, the man she never got to share her life with. Thinking of what could have been, thinking of all that was robbed from her.

Miroku judged InuYasha for being selfish, for loving more than one woman at the same time. He berated him for wanting to comfort Kikyo, to protect her when she was in danger. Running to her side when she was nearby because he was worried about her, because he missed her. Knowing Naraku was hunting her down and wished to kill her all over again. Kagome knew Miroku was a hypocrite as did InuYasha, judging him for the fact that he was still in love with Kikyo. Despite Miroku who was a womanising pervert who had courted, flirted with seduced every woman he laid eyes on, hurting Sango whom had fallen in love with him.

Sango called Inuyasha a womaniser just as she did Miroku, but never considered how hard it was for InuYasha to let go of Kikyo, the first woman he ever opened his heart to died because of him. Sango was admittedly jealous of the devotion InuYasha harboured for Kikyo as well as Kagome, holding two women in such high regard. Sango had never been loved the way InuYasha loved Kikyo, even in death his feelings for her still remained. She wished Miroku was as devoted to her as InuYasha was to the women in his life.

Shippo called him a jerk, due to his strong bond with Kagome and naivety of the complications of love. Shippo had brief crushes on other girls his age, many of them being human, but for many reasons never worked out. However, Shippo was yet to experience love the way InuYasha felt for Kikyo.

But Kagome understood better than anyone, she could see how much they meant to one another, from their heated gazes, loving looks and tender embraces. The way they looked at one another, they way they always found each other, the way they spoke about one another. Always lingering on the others mind even when they were apart. Kikyo's love for InuYasha was pure, it had merely been corrupted by Naraku and the violence causing her demise. All she had ever wanted was to spend her life with him, to abandon her identity as a priestess and live by his side. She had loved him unselfishly, she had loved him with every fibre of her being, understanding InuYasha's loneliness, desire for acceptance and belonging. Hoping she could be the one to heal the scars in his heart and for a brief time she had been. She was willing to give her life to him, raise his children, wanted to have a family with him. She was willing to discard her potent spiritual powers, her title as a respected priestess, everything she had ever been trained and educated for by the temple. To live as an ordinary woman, to lay down her weapons permanently and never fight demons again. To abandon her duty of battle and preservation against demonkind.

Kagome swallowed nervously, gripping her hands into balled fists, knowing that Kikyo would always be drawn to InuYasha, that they would always find one another. She knew how much it would break his heart if he could never see her again, to be separated once more. She knew InuYasha got lonely, he waited for her to return and longed for companionship. Kikyo always lingered, she followed the group and watched from afar on occasion to check on him. "I...I can't always be here, I can't always be by his side. I have studies, I have school, I have a home, a future, my family. When I finally find all the jewel shards, I'll go home. So maybe... while I'm gone, you can keep him company?" Kagome asked. She had to return home for months at a time, the passage of time between worlds lingered. She had a life outside of InuYasha that she couldn't ignore and she needed to focus on her future. She knew InuYasha would be in safe hands with Kikyo, she knew they would be happy. InuYasha would always seek her out, he would always look for Kikyo, he would come running if he so much as sensed her. Why deny them any happiness they may have?

Kikyo turned her head to Kagome, her expression filled with conflict, confusion and embarrassment, her cheeks flushed pink. She often forgot that she and Kagome were alike, Kagome was capable of showing maturity and insightfulness. Speaking with her reincarnation of their affections and relationship with the same man was such a confusing and complicated matter. Kagome was asking her to protect InuYasha, but she was also giving her consent and permission for them to continue their romantic relationship.

"InuYasha loves you, and he cares for me too. But I have my family, I'm still studying for high school. I want to go to college someday, I can't expect him to wait forever. So until then, can you... can you keep him company for me?" Kagome asked. She could never replace Kikyo in InuYasha's heart and she never wanted to. What the future held for them was unknown and could change at any time. She may even fall in love with someone from her own time, someone she could care for more than InuYasha and even forget him. She might never return to the feudal era once her duties were done. But she wanted to know InuYasha would be happy, that someone would always be there for him when he needed them. Even if he forgot her, or she forgot him, no matter how much time passed she wanted to know he wasn't alone. She knew the boy in her class Hojo had feelings for her, she had been on a few dates with him. There was the chance it could lead somewhere or it might just be a brief high school relationship. She may even meet a guy in her senior year, she may even meet a guy when she went to college, the potential was endless. As much as she cared for InuYasha, as dear to her as he had become, she knew she didn't belong in his world. She had been pulled into the well and someday it may be sealed off. One day as much as it would hurt her she would be forced to say goodbye, she would never be able to stay. Kikyo knew this, she had tried to warn her that her time in the feudal era would come to an end. But she didn't wish for Kagome to get hurt once the ties had to be severed.

"Kagome..." Kikyo soothed, she could hear the sadness in her voice. She knew Kagome was aware of all that she would be forced to say goodbye to once the shikon jewel shards were collected, having to say goodbye to all the friends she made. Kagome had dreams, wishes and hopes just as she once had, a future ahead of her and a life to live.

"When I'm gone, when I'm away studying, I want you to watch over him, to protect him from harm. Make sure he's happy and he's safe, that way we'll both have peace of mind. When the jewel is gone, help him move on and find peace. Then finally seal the bone eaters well so he can find someone new" Kagome pressed. Kikyo would be able to watch over him, she would be able to visit him and make sure he was coping. Kikyo would help guide him to happiness, she would be able to nurture his broken soul. InuYasha would live far longer than she ever would, she was a mortal woman, she didn't have the longevity InuYasha possessed with his demon blood. Kagome was all too aware how different she was than InuYasha, how her brief life was a blink of an eye compared to his. Kikyo would make sure he was happy, that he overcame heartache and found someone new. She would be able to soothe InuYasha in ways she couldn't, she would be able to help him heal and help him find someone new. He would find a woman who he could share his life with, that wouldn't die as soon as she would, a woman with an extended life, so he would never be lonely.

Kikyo softened, Kagome was finally growing up, finally realising the heartache and repercussions of loving InuYasha. They were from different worlds, InuYasha's father knew the heartache of loving a human, which InuYasha too experienced. Half demons weren't like humans, they were a different breed entirely, there was so much Kagome would be sacrificing. Knowing that everything could be ripped from you, that you would be forced to say goodbye no matter how much it hurt. She nodded calmly "You have my word" she promised.

Kagome smiled, somehow a sense of relief and burden had been lifted from her shoulders, no longer weighing her down. Confiding in Kikyo things she couldn't say to her friends or InuYasha, a secret between them both. The two of them respected the other as fellow priestesses, sharing a unique bond. "Until then, we can share him, nobody has to give him up. We both love him, we both care for him, and I don't want to take him from you" Kagome smiled. Miroku, Sango nor Shippo had to understand and that was fine, but this was Kagome's choice to make and she was happy with that. Though they loved InuYasha for different reasons and InuYasha's sentiments and feelings towards them were of a similar reason. They were both important women in his life, as was he to them, why would she make Kikyo give up someone that made her happy?

Kikyo's brown eyes spiked with tears, becoming glassy and reflective, some spilling down her cheeks with relief and happiness. Part of her had been afraid, expecting Kagome to ask if she would ever give up InuYasha and hate her. But instead their bond only grew and the two of them grew to respect the other with each meeting and encounter. Though she was dead, she was a tragic soul wandering the earth as she tried to find peace, Kagome was still willing to share InuYasha with her. Because she knew how much Kikyo still loved him, she knew how much they still meant to the other, she couldn't help but want him, need him. She couldn't let him go, her feelings were too strong, the one positive feeling she had from her time on earth. They had transferred to her reborn soul in Kagome, they both understood their deep affections for him. "Thank you Kagome" she whimpered, her voice shaky as she forced the words out. She shyly wiped away her tears, hiding behind her sleeves, it had been so long since she had cried like this. She felt embarrassed for Kagome to see her in such a manner.

Kagome slowly approached Kikyo, enveloping her in a hug, sensing Kikyo's weakness and vulnerability. She had been terrified to lose InuYasha, to be all alone. But Kagome had reassured her she wasn't going to make her give up InuYasha. Holding the older girl close, comforting her as the tears spilled, she appeared as nothing more than a girl, a young priestess who fell in love. Nobody ever saw this side of Kikyo or ever tried to understand it, the part of her that was still attached to this world. Love was a powerful emotion, you couldn't help who you fell in love with.
