A triple drabble (exactly 300 words) written for C-chan (1001paperboxes) for the Seasons of Drabbles - Fall Round 2023.
Girl Talk: The New Recruit
Hanako and Narumi sat in their usual booth at their favorite restaurant with Kou. They had crossed paths with the younger woman after work and more or less forced her to join them while Naoya was on the late shift at the coffee shop. They didn't want Kou to be alone - especially since it was obvious the extremely shy gamer girl needed more socialization to gain confidence.
In fact, over dessert, Hanako was busy determining exactly which characters would be perfect for Kou to cosplay when she heard her other companion gasp across the table.
"Oooh! Hana-chan!" Narumi breathed out excitedly. "The door! Why haven't I seen them like this before?"
Both Hanako and Kou looked towards the entrance to see two men standing there. Their dark heads were close as they looked at a phone together while they waited to be seated.
"Is that...?"
"Yeah!" Narumi interrupted with a squeal. "It's Aiba and Baba. Look how pretty they are together!"
"Hmm..." Hanako studied their oblivious coworkers with an expert's critical eye. "Their heights are compatible and their physical features are complementary. You're right! They do look good together. Okay, then, on the count of three."
"Aiba/Baba."
"Baba/Aiba!"
"Ugh! I give up!" Narumi groaned after their usual game's countdown. "We never agree on positions!" She suddenly looked up at Kou.
"What do you think?"
"Me?" Kou's face flushed red as she replied, "Um...maybe the taller one on top?"
Narumi was surprised since she hadn't really expected an answer from the quiet girl. Hanako, however, smiled in understanding.
"Could it be that you're into BL, too?" she asked.
"Well...um...I've read a few," Kou nervously admitted.
Narumi beamed and grabbed Kou's hand. "We have so much to talk about now," she gushed happily.
"Indeed!" Hanako agreed mischievously.*
