A Sirius Surprise

Sirius Black thought himself a simple man.

Severus Snape thought Sirius Black to be an infuriating man with a death wish.

Hermione Granger thought Sirius Black to be an overgrown child, with no regard for responsibility or one's safety.

The students of Hogwarts thought Professor Sirius O. Black to be an absolute role model for their futures.

And Severus Snape, Deputy Headmaster, Head of Slytherin House, and renowned Potions Master knew Sirius Black well, despite being childhood enemies. He, unfortunately, knew him very well, and could tell right off the bat why Black had begun reducing to the nervous antics of a sixteen-year-old. So with this secretive information on hand, Severus knew just how to humiliate the Gryffindor.

And so, that brings us to this scene that we are about to witness.

Hermione Granger, a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, teacher of Transfiguration, once known as the Brains of the Golden Trio, and the woman that roasted the Department of Magical Law Enforcement for sentencing children at the time to Azkaban, the most noted time being the case of Draco Malfoy. But that was another story for another time.

At this time, Professor Granger had just finished a hurried breakfast in the Great Hall, hastening her movements to get done faster, she had to make preparations for her first years that day, and she didn't have much time.

Beside her, Snape kept checking his watch, looking up every now and then to throw glances at the double doors.

Hermione ignored the strange behaviour in favour of finishing her pancakes.

A few minutes later, Hermione was on her feet, quickly making her way down from the staff table, book bag swinging from her left hand. Then, the double doors flew open, causing all talk to cease.

The students stared open-mouthed at their Defense Against the Dark Arts professor as he stomped in, hair a dishevelled mess, like he hadn't brushed it. How unusual. Sirius stopped right between the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw tables to glance around for something, or someone.

Hermione stared on at this weird behaviour in confusion.

Sirius' grey eyes found her face in the crowd and he narrowed in on her. Hermione froze. Sirius set forward, a look of determination burning in his eyes as he reached her.

"Can I help you Prof-" Hermione started to say, but was immediately cut off as Sirius leaned in, giving her a chased pec on the lips before spinning on his heel and storming from the Hall.

Hermione and the rest of the occupants of breakfast were in utter shock.

And once alone, she lightly brushed the tips of her fingers against her lips, letting the faintest touch Ghost over them.

Hermione was frantic in her search for a certain book on a third-year's guide to Transfiguration, she had been tearing the library apart on the hunt for it for over an hour now. Feeling like Sirius had checked it out some time ago, she shook her head, he would have returned it by now.

That was right, she realized, flipping through a potions book for rare cures and poisons, Sirius was a professional in the field of Transfiguration. However, he had to be, for he was an unregistered Animagus. So Hermione could go to him and ask for the book back, and if he didn't have it? Well, she could ask for help with her lesson.

Her mind made up, Hermione placed the book she had been reading back in its place before setting off, turning down the Charms aisle. And it was easy to find Sirius, she smiled, seeing him sitting under one of the large windows overlooking the Black Lake.

"Hey, Sirius," she greeted in a cheerful tone.

Sirius' head shot up, eyes going wild:

"Sirius?" Hermione said, concern etching her face.

Much like the other morning in the Great Hall at breakfast, Sirius stood, approaching Hermione with a predatory glint gleaming in his silvery eyes.

Bracing herself for the inevitable, Hermione inhaled sharply, wanting to stop him, but also wanting him.

Sirius slipped his hands around her arms, pulling her near him as he leaned down, peppering kisses along her jaw and down her neck.

Hermione felt a mixture of confusion and relaxation enveloping her.

Sirius pressed his lips to hers before snapping back to his senses and running from the library.

Hermione ran a tired hand down her face, jinxed, Sirius was jinxed.

It was dusk, the orange and dusty pink clouds floating across the blue sky as Hermione made her way down the front steps of the castle. She hadn't seen Sirius since the library incident, nor at meals, and she learned that she missed his company.

Sighing to herself, wondering about the notorious marauder, she continued across the darkening grounds, the dewy grass tickling her ankles.

A hand grabbed Hermione's shoulder out of nowhere.

Spinning around and snatching her wand from her pocket, Hermione found her face inches from Sirius'. Before he could react, she quickly waved her wand, muttering the counterspell under her breath.

Sirius gasped, stepping back and clapping his hands to his mouth in mortification. "Oh, Merlin. Hermione, Kitten, I'm so sorry," his voice came out as a squeak, his pale cheeks tinting a dusty red.

She smiled, reaching out to place a gentle hand on his arm, "it's okay, Sirius. Who did this to you?"

Groaning, Sirius slid to the grass, head between his knees. "Snape," he muttered, "he said I needed to summon my stupid courage and stop being like a teenager," he gulped, "oh, Mione."

Hermione knelt beside him, "I'll help you get him back."

Sirius lifted his head, a lock of dark hair falling in his face, "really?"

She nodded, taking his hand in hers. "Yes. Did you mean it?" She asked, peering through her lashes at him, the last rays of sunlight caressing Sirius' ebony hair, giving the silky waves a true black undertone.

Sirius took a deep and shuttering breath. "Yeah," he mumbled, averting his gaze.

"You want to try without being jinxed?"

Sirius looked back at her, hope shimmering in his grey orbs.

Hermione gave an encouraging nod.

Hesitating for only a second, he leaned in, pressing a light kiss to her lips.

"Looks like you owe Snape a thank you."

Sirius moaned in displeasure at that.
