chapter 28
Lillian stood beside Lucifer as she looked upon Death. He looked exactly as one would imagine Death to look like. Dressed completely in black with a cane. He had a very grim aura about him. His appearance seemed overall very ghastly and ancient.
Lillian reached her hand out to shake his hand in a friendly greeting, not wanting to be on Deaths bad side. Death threw her an odd look at the gesture. "You know not many people would want to touch Death." He informed her.
"Oh.. right." She chuckled awkwardly as she pulled her hand away.
Lucifer had told Lillian that Death could be the most reasonable horseman at times. He prefers the natural order and is not a fan of the apocalypse. Asking him for his ring and cutting a deal could be the easiest option.
Death tilted his head towards Lucifer and pointed his cane at him. "You summoned me because it's time for Heaven and Earth to face your outrageous temper tantrum I presume?"
Lucifer stepped forward with red eyes but Lillian pushed him back before he let his rage get the best of him. "We don't want the apocalypse, right?" Lillian nodded to Lucifer for reassurance.
He nodded with a frustrated sigh. "What she said."
Death's eyes darted back and forth between the angel and nephilim in front of him. "This is quite peculiar."
"We would like to ask you for your ring?" Lillian asked nervous.
"My ring?"
"Mikeys going downstairs for a timeout" Lucifer said clearing up any confusion.
"You think I would lend you, Lucifer, my ring? So you can rid the world of your brother and free roam the Earth? That's asking for a disaster to erupt. No one in their right mind would ever consider that." Death spoke with wide eyes.
"Lucifer has barely participated in the apocalypse since he has gotten out of the cage. What has he done since he returned that is so disastrous? I know heaven has done far more unspeakable things within that time." Lillian spoke in his defense.
"How about executing this town for an example?"
Lucifer watched as Lillian defended him to Death. He could speak for himself but he enjoyed watching her fight for him. It made his chest swell with a feeling that was foreign to him.
"He did that to summon you. He did not choose to bind you and with good reason! If Lucifer didn't summon you then the angels upstairs would have and they would have bound you. They would have used you as a weapon for the apocalypse and forced you to lay tragedies all over the planet." Lillian exhaled a deep sigh. "All we are asking for is to borrow your ring. Ending the apocalypse will prevent more people from dying before their time is up. Lucifer might not care for people but I do."
Death turned his attention from Lillian to Lucifer. "Why do you not wish to fight your brother? Why trap him?"
"He's family. Mike's my big bro, I don't want to fight him. Any way to avoid killing him I'm going to take it." Lucifer answered.
Death adjusted his grip on his cane as he stared at the two standing in front of him. He thought for a moment about all that was relayed to him and considered it to be the best option for the time being. "I will lend out my ring.." Lillians eyes widened in relief as Death spoke.
"..though Dean Winchester shall be the one to receive it."
Lucifer groaned, cutting Death off from speaking any further. This earned the angel a look from Death as he continued.
"Dean is the righteous man. He has much to learn. He will be put through a test and receive the ring. I assume you can obtain it through him." Death looked to Lillian.
She nodded, "Yes it shouldn't be a problem." Her brothers already have Wars ring that she would have to take from them as well. What's one more?
Lillian turned to look at Lucifer with wide eyes trying to communicate silently is that it? Though he didn't understand anything she was saying and just squinted at her response. Death watched the both of them interacting very closely.
"I take it you two don't know about your situation?" The grim being spoke up.
"What are you talking about?" Lucifer was the first to speak.
Death pointed at the both of them as he spoke "You two are soulmates."
Lucifer sounded almost angry as he exclaimed in disbelief "That's impossible!" He stomped his foot down and pointed at Death. "You know dad didn't make anymore soulmates after the last two!"
Lillian spoke up after her long silence. "What happened to the last two?"
"When angels bond it's a very strong connection. Unfortunately if an angel loses their mate they can become filled with a terrible wrath. With the last pair of soulmates, one died. The mate went mad and started killing dozens of other angels. They found him before he made his way to Earth." Death answered.
"There was only one other angel who lost their soulmate in heaven at that time. They had became a shell of who they were. Eternally depressed and lifeless. It appears that when you lose a soulmate you either snap or become hollow." Lucifer also added.
"What happened to all the other angels with soulmates?" Lillian wondered.
"Dad had them all killed. He didn't want a repeat of what happened. There already wasn't many soulmates for angels to begin with." Lucifer started to raise his voice "Which is why this is impossible!" He turned towards Death, "She isn't even a full angel!" Lucifer whined like a child in denial.
"Unlike how angelic soulmates share a piece of one another's grace within them before they bond.." Death gestured from Lillians chest to Lucifers. "You were given a sliver of Ms Winchesters soul as well."
Lucifer grabbed onto his chest without realizing. This foreign thing has been in his chest without him knowing this whole time. He's not sure how to feel about it.
"How do you know all of this?" Lillian asked Death.
"You were not some accident Lillian Winchester. God wanted you to exist. This was planned, a destined match long before your birth. God wanted Lucifer to learn a bit of love and humanity. The reason I was made aware is because this pairing could be the best thing God has done or it could be fatal for the world."
Lillian took an unsteady step back as Deaths words played over in her head. She had already assumed God knew who she was, obviously. But to find out that God personally picked her for some special reason. Picked her to be paired with one of his favorite sons? It's almost like he had semi-planned her life. She isn't mad at how her life turned out but she does feel violated.
Death broke the silence as he watched Lillian and Lucifer stew in their emotions. "I shall take my leave now." They watched as he disappeared immediately.
Lillian turned to face the angel that was standing next to her. "Lucifer?" She called out to him. He took a step away from her, refusing to face her. As Lillian looked at him he seemed upset about all the information they just learned.
"I'll leave you alone so you can think about all of this then." Lillian suggested as she took a few steps back. When she was about to depart she heard Lucifer quietly speak up. "Don't."
She walked up to him and wrapped her arms tightly around him from behind. He sighed and gently leaned into her touch. "All this time I think he doesn't care but then I get you. Like a hand wrapped gift all for myself." Lucifer spoke referring to his dad giving him a soulmate. "None of my other brothers get soulmates, they would be so jealous."
Lillian turned him around to face her. She looked into his cold blue eyes. She scanned along the features of his face. Rubbing her hand across the decaying skin on his cheek.
"I will need a better vessel soon." Lucifer stated.
She moved her hand down to his chest as he placed his hands on her hips. "You know I heard the vessel that soulmates bond in can become a permanent vessel for an angel. Even if it isn't their true vessel."
"Are you asking to bond with me for your little loophole so I don't possess your brother?" Lucifer raised an eyebrow at her. Lillian looked away at the ground nervously.
"You don't know what you're asking Lil. Bonding is intense. You gain each others memories during the process." He gave her a painful expression as he continued. "Once the bond is complete you will be connected to your mate. You will know what each other is feeling. The bond cannot be broken, it's a life sentence. Who knows how different it could be considering you're a nephilim." What Lucifer was reluctant to mention was the fact that after the bond their powers would grow stronger. When they exchange grace they also exchange power and become even stronger than they were before.
"Could you live with that life sentence?" Lillian asked with a raised brow as she looked up at him.
"I don't know if I could, It seems exhausting." Lucifer rolled his eyes at her.
"I don't know if I could either, but I know I can if it's with you."
Lucifer smirked at her, "Are you sure you want this?" She nodded with a small smile.
Before anything progressed Lillian put her hands out to stop Lucifer from moving. "Wait! Wait! You said we see all of each others memories?" He nodded. "Is there anything I should know, like directly from you?"
Lucifer thought for a moment and couldn't come up with anything. He shook his head "You?"
Lillian smoothed out Lucifers shirt with her hands awkwardly. "I guess I should tell you who my father is." Lucifers eyes lit up with excitement. He was finally going to learn the mysterious truth of her paternity.
Lillian scrunched her eyes shut as she spoke. "It's Gabriel."
Lucifer tilted his head a bit perplexed. "Huh.."
"What?"
Lucifer looked Lillian up and down. "I never would have guessed that." He was surprised his brother could make someone like Lillian.
Reverting the topic back to bonding Lillian asked, "So how are we going to do this?"
"Just follow my lead, be gentle." Lucifer said. He grabbed her shoulder with his left hand. Then he plunged into her chest with his right hand. He dug in searching for the pit that held her grace and soul.
Lillian cried out in pain. She fought through it though as she lifted her own arm and plummeted it into Lucifers chest. He held back a groan as she rummaged through his chest.
Many yards away Castiel was watching. He perched his head up a bit more from the bush he was hiding behind. His eyes widened as he saw Lillian and the devil tear into each others chests.
Lucifer felt around and found where Lillians soul was. Beside it was the powerful sack of her grace. He felt around a little further. Below was where a small bundle of his grace was already within her.
Lillian dove further into Lucifers chest. She could feel the power radiating off the swarm of his grace when she reached the center. She gently brushed against it guiding her towards where she could feel the small bubble of her soul. Beneath it all was her own grace.
Lucifer gripped her shoulder tighter as he groaned out, "Are you ready?"
"Yes" Lillian spoke quietly through the pain.
Lucifer started pumping his grace into her chest. Lillians free arm immediately went around the back of his neck. She needed to hold onto him to steady herself. As soon as she was steady, she followed in pursuit.
His grace wrapped from the bottom of her grace and soul all the way around to the top. Hers did the same within him. As the process went on the feeling stopped being painful. It turned to bliss. It was ethereal. Neither of them had ever felt something like that before. Their groans of agony had turned to moans of pleasure.
They had removed their hands from each others chests and were leaning on each others foreheads. Tears streamed down their cheeks. Both of them panting as they were overwhelmed with emotions after the feelings of the bond and witnessing each others lives. Lillian was trying to process everything Lucifer had gone through as she sniffled.
Then she took a step back. Quickly turning angry she slapped Lucifer across the face. "You took my memories away?!"
Lucifer was too stunned to respond. He looked at Lillian and he was amazed by what he saw. She was getting angrier by the minute but he did not notice. He was too distracted by her wings.
Lillian was too upset to realize this new development that had been displayed. Lucifer stared at her completely dumbfounded. Though not at her, behind her. "What?" She asked confused. She turned her head behind her and saw her wings exposed. "You can see my wings?" She asked confused. She has only ever shown her wings to her father before. She was always told to never show her wings to anyone ever. They are delicate and intimate. She didn't understand why they were revealed without her warranting them to be.
Then she looked at Lucifer in awe. Behind him were four massive white wings. She took a step back to get a better view of them. "They're beautiful.." She whispered with her hand over her mouth as she stared in amazement.
Once Lucifer realized his wings were exposed as well he straightened his back out to make himself seem taller. He tucked his wings away behind him. Away from the worlds view, they were out of sight now. He didn't want her to see the missing feathers and damage his wings carried from the fall.
Lillian stepped forward with her eyebrows furrowed "You don't have to hide them from me." She put her hand on his cheek noticing it's healed now. "I think they're beautiful."
Before Lucifer could respond there was a buzzing sound coming from Lillians pocket. She reached into her jacket to take out her phone seeing that it read Incoming call from Cas
She answered the phone. "Hey Cas what's up?"
"We have been worried about you. You didn't come back to Bobby's are you alright?"
She laughed into the phone. "Yes I'm fine Cas thanks for worrying. After everything I found some 3AM bar to get a drink and clear my head. I'm sorry I should've checked in."
"They have beer at Bobby's. You should come home soon." Castiel urged.
"Um okay Cas, see ya." Lillian said as she flipped her phone close. She looked up at Lucifer with an apologetic look. "I have to get going." Lillian walked up to Lucifer and went onto her tip toes to place a kiss on his cheek before departing.
Just as Lillian left, Castiel left as well. He was filled with so much determination now to find out what the female Winchester is hiding. What her secrets with Lucifer is. His new mission is to find out what Lillian and the devil are up to.
