Prologue

The busy streets she walked were unfamiliar to her, but that didn't bother her. Blue eyes were trained on the ground below her feet with each and every step she took. She avoided those around her seamlessly, stepped out of the way each time one of them got too close for comfort.

Her destination wasn't clear to her, but it was the location that mattered. The familiar aura- one she could never forget- burned in her mind like a beacon, and she was in pursuit of it. After several more minutes of walking, she finally came to a halt in front of a building that was unfamiliar. Her eyes closed as she stood there, focusing on the aura she felt.

"Should you need assistance, come find me."

She paused in the bustling airport. People around her passed in blurs, but her gaze lingered on the man standing with her. A calming blue aura surrounded him, standing out against the blur of colors from everyone else.

He smiled a knowing smile. She hadn't told him anything of her abilities, but he had pieced it all together in the time she'd spent talking to him. She had never met someone like him, and she wasn't sure if she would ever meet another person like him.

"After all," he continued, "I'm sure such a feat will be no issue for you. Isn't that right, Kagome?"

Her heart felt funny in her chest. He spoke as if he was privy to her secrets. Then again, he practically was.

Sherlock Holmes…-

She opened her eyes, lifting her gaze to observe the building before her. She moved automatically then, hand lifting to knock on the door.

"I hope you don't mind me taking you up on your offer," she mused softly to herself. Her words didn't stray above a whisper. She waited a few seconds more before the door was opened by someone she didn't recognize.

His hair, a dark, dirty blonde color, was short and his eyes a deep hue of blue far darker than her own. He looked her over for a moment.

"What can I do for you?" he asked.

"I'm here to speak with Sherlock," she responded. "He's here, isn't he?" she added as an afterthought. Her comment, while phrased as a question, came off as more of a fact than anything else.

"Ah.. yes, he's upstairs," the man at the door responded. He didn't seem surprised by her request. "Come on in." As he closed the door behind her, he motioned for her to follow him. "My name's John," he said as they went upstairs. "What can I call you?"

"Kagome," she responded. John nodded.

"Ah, well it's nice to meet you," he said, and she nodded.

"You, as well," she responded. He couldn't tell if she meant it or if she was merely trying to be polite. He didn't put too much thought into it as he led her to the main room.

"Sherlock!" John called out into the empty room, his voice carrying further back to other rooms as he waved her in. "You can have a seat," he said, motioning to a spot free from the clutter. "I'm sure he'll be out in just a minute."

Just as she was about to move, another person came to join them. She glanced towards them. She didn't miss the recognition that flashed through his eyes.

"Oh," Sherlock commented as he stopped across from her. "Would you look at that," he mused. He sounded almost breathless as he spoke. "How long has it been? Seven years? Eight?"

"Something like that," Kagome answered.

"And here you are," he mused out loud. Kagome arched a brow. "What a surprise."

"You're the one who made the offer," she reminded. She knew that she didn't have to, but she did either way.

John looked between the two, completely out of the loop

"Oh, well, I didn't think you'd take me up on the offer," he remarked. Kagome rolled her eyes.

"I can leave then," she retorted. She didn't miss the quirk of his lips as he fought to keep from smirking at her responses to the cat-and-mouse game.

"No, there's no need to do that," Sherlock responded, urging her closer. "Sit down, we'll talk."

At once, John was confused, and he looked between the two. "I've missed something, haven't I?" he asked after a moment.

"Maybe a bit," Kagome answered as she sat down.

"Eight years ago, I was working on a case that had to do with her," Sherlock stated. "She'd been abducted and ended up quite a ways away from home when she was found."

John nodded as he received a little bit of backstory as to how they seemed so familiar with one another. He looked at her next. "And you're here because…-" He trailed off for her to finish, and she nodded.

"I'm being stalked," she responded in a plain and simple tone. "Have been for the past year and a half. Can't really shake them no matter what I do. I can't seem to get a good feel for them, either…" she continued. "That's why I'm here," she said as she glanced at Sherlock. "I'm taking you up on your offer."

He nodded, intrigue piquing. "A stalker, you say?" he mused out loud. "Do you know who they are?" he asked. She shook her head.

"I know they're there, always following me, but I can't sense them," she admitted. Her choice of words took John by surprise, and he was lost instantly again. When her words didn't phase Sherlock, he could only figure this was something he had been aware of ahead of time. "They're blocking me out."

"Sounds annoying," Sherlock responded. She shrugged, a wry smile flashing across her face.

"You've got a point," she stated. "That's why I'm here," she continued. "I know what you're capable of." She knew how transparent he could view the world. Things she missed due to her blocked senses, he could clue in on easily.

"Oh, I will take your case," he stated as a matter of fact, quickly brushing away any concern that she might've had of him just shoving her to the side. She looked at him once he'd already made up his mind. "There was never any question of a doubt about it," he continued as if it were obvious.

A smile appeared on her face. "I'm glad," she responded. "Thank you."

C.R: Gonna end this here. In the next chapter, there will be more about the earlier case he worked with her. (+Along with John getting filled in by Kagome)
