Once the Tempest had arrived it didn't take long before a full survey team was down with the team from the Specter shuttle. Rick had beamed down to the planet with Lieutenant Aliyu Jor'al, a Bajoran tactical officer whom joined Starfleet, unlike Kessa whom was a transfer officer from the Bajoran Militia an exchange officer. As they walked towards the large doors that Sari and her team had discovered, they noticed Kessa and Aaron using their phasers to try and cut open a doorway into the facility, however it was taking some time for them to cut through the thick metal that was between them and whatever was behind the doors. "How's it going?" Rick asked, as he and Aliyu began to make their way closer to the team. "It's been slow breaking through this door, it's been heavily reinforced but we're making some progress." Nyusari said as she'd look back to Kessa and Aaron. "Some... We've tried to look around the complex as well, this building seems to be pretty big. And after modifying our tricorders a little, we also detected that it goes underground a few kilometers as well." Taking this moment to glance around the area around them, it was obvious that the structure had been here for a long time without even needing a tricorder scan, of course Delta though walked over and began to say, "Tricorder readings indicate that this structure and the materials used may have been placed hear some four hundred years ago. However we've yet to detect anything else beyond a 100 kilometer radius sir." Rick turned to Delta for a moment before the sounds of phaser fire stopped. "Sir. We're through." Kessa called out as everyone turned to the door and watched as Kessa and Aaron reached out to push the block they made. At first the two seem to be having trouble, till Delta stepped up and began to push the block of metal, and what other materials the door was made out of, inward so as to allow everyone to enter. Kessa and Aaron followed, only to step out a moment later. "It's completely dark in there sir." Tapping his Combadge Rick would call out, "Venier to Tempest." Getting the response a second later from Commander Williams, "Tempest responding." "Diane I need you to transport down some flash lights, we have an opening to the complex but there's no power." "Understood captain, if I may Captain, Milano was requesting earlier about joining you." Rick couldn't help but look over to Aliyu for a moment before responding, "As long as she is bringing the flash lights, permission granted." "Aye Captain."
Back on the ship, Roku Milano was in Transporter Room Two preparing to beam down with a few lower rank Starfleet officers, Ensign Christy Littlefield, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Jeffrey Nickleson. "Can't wait to see what they found down there." Jeffrey commented as he was securing a container with flash lights and other supplies. "What do you think they found? Some secret Romulan base? Perhaps an Obsidian Order secret prison that was abandoned?" Christy would then ask while also working on packing a few supplies. Roku chuckled to herself as she walked between them, "Whatever it is, it's abandoned, and we're going to find out what's inside. You packed up the rebreathers too?" Roku would ask as Christy gave a nod putting the last one in a backpack. "All set. Are we… Sure we're going to need these though? They said the atmosphere was breathable."
"You never know what it may be like inside the Complex." Diane Williams would say as the Commander walked into the transporter room, "You think you can fix whatever is going on with their tricorders?" "I believe so. But I'll need a little help from Delta before I can fully implement anything." Roku would respond as she took out her tricorder, "I've already made a few modifications to this one, but I'll have to test it on the surface." "All set." Jeffrey would say as he and Christy finished placing a few containers on the transporter pad, and got into position. Roku would then join them as Diane spoke up, "If the worst should happen, we'll beam you all back up regardless of what discovery you make." "Not sure if the Captain would appreciate that." Roku would respond as the two smiled, and Diane motioned to the transporter chief to beam the three down. In moments the three and their cargo were beamed down towards the planet as the internal comm signals. "Bridge to Commander Williams." Lieutenant Aliyu Jor'al's voice came through the comms. "We've received a message from Starfleet. Starbase 104 is asking for a status update on our survey and when we will arrive for our next assignment." Diane couldn't help but let out a sigh hearing that as the Transporter Chief gave a sympathetic expression. "Inform them that we are unsure at this time, but we will make it in time for the delivery as requested." "Understood." As soon as the comm went down the Commander looked over at the chief to say, "I should have stayed on the Crusader. She may be a small Aquarious, but probably would have been better than being the answering service for Starfleet."
Back on the planet, the team was getting set up as Rick, Delta, Sari and Jeffrey were all finishing gearing up for their exploration as Rick turned to Ensign Stone. "Take the shuttle back up to the ship, and be careful of the traffic." "Yes Sir." Aaron replied as he started to make his way back to the shuttle, while Rick looked back to Roku, "You and the others work on the tricorders, soon as you found a way around this scanning block their on, send us the updated program and then take a look around to see if you can find any signs of life." He'd say while the Female Orion was already going through a few tricorders, "I don't think it'll take me long, but you four best be careful." With that, he turned to the three going in with him, "Let's be careful in there… Delta, try and keep a complete record of what we see and what we find." "Understood sir."
The four would enter with their flash lights on, the light from outside spilling in from the opening revealed little, but with the flashlights one could make out the entrance inside aligned with some reflective markers. Deeper in one could make out a table that was knocked over along with what looked like a security scanner. "Looks like one of those old metal detectors from the 20th, 21st century." Jeffrey would comment as they approached, noticing a transparent wall going from the walls to the scanners. "Basically you would walk through and it would detect if you have anything metal on you." Jeffrey would say as Rick stepped through it, noticing it didn't go off. "If I recall Lieutenant, if you stepped through it and it detected something, an officer with a portal scanner would go over your person to find where the metal was hiding… Well it's not going to find anything without power." He'd say as the four began to look around more.
"A keypad with common english numbers, and an old style scanner…" Sari would mutter to herself as they moved deeper in, following the corridor to a room that spread out wider as if entering an entrance lobby. The room was large with doors across from the doorway that led to the entrance, a few staircases that went to a second floor and what looked like down below. Upon a far wall as they aimed their flash lights to it, they would find two metal doors that looked like sliding doors. "Turbolifts?" Sari would ask as Delta glanced over, "Or these peoples' equivalent." He'd reply. "Captain!" Jeffrey would call out, and all three would turn to see what he was looking at. The light from his flashlight was pointing at the floor, which had a symbol on it and some wording. They moved next to Jeffrey to get a better look and would see a symbol of what looked like a star field and some sort of a gate with the words under it saying 'Epsilon Site' on it.
"Interesting… This appears to suggest the presence of facilities other than this one." Delta would say as he took a moment to look over the emblem on the floor. "But in common English again? Is it possible this was a forgotten facility from Starfleet?" Jeffrey would ask as he looked between everyone. "That, or the people here share a common language to English speaking Humans." Sari would suggest as they started to look around more. "Not seeing any bodies… At least not yet." Rick would say before tapping his combadge. "Venier to Milano." "Roku here." The Orion would respond. "Roku, how is the modification on the tricorders?"
"Almost done, Keesa and I think we have discovered what it is that's been blocking our scans, but it'll take a moment to test and calibrate." Rick would let out a small sigh as he looked over to the others, "Understood… We found a sort of hub area that looks like it branches out and possibly underground as well… We'll look around more above ground, I don't want to go below incase of some unexpected interference." "Aye sir, I'll contact you as soon as we finish our tests."
Outside, Roku and Keesa were still working on the tricorder while Christy was keeping watch. "Out of every component and pre-programed system these things have, how is it nobody noticed this… Rather annoying lil subroutine that keeps coming back…" Roku would comment as the two worked, "It's buried rather deep in the inner workings of the Tricorder… Ah! I got it!" Keesa would say as she was inputting several command keys into the tricorder, "It may be adaptive, but if we just… There." A few confirmations come up on the tricorder as Roku looks over to Keesa, "What did you do?" "A little virus, made to be as adaptive and able to remove the program." "And you just made it out of the blue?" Roku would ask the Bajoran officer as she looked over the tricorder, "Frankly it was a somewhat simple virus as the program was also somewhat simple…" This caught Christy's attention as the young Ensign glanced over to the two, "If it was somewhat simple, why is it that it took you so long to find, and remove?" "Because Ensign." Keesa began to say, "It was hidden where nobody would check. The internal Library system. And I would bet it's also the same for the Tempest, and all of our other systems for our shuttles." With that remark, Keesa tapped her combadge. "Keesa to Tempest." "Tempest Responding." Commander Williams spoke through the comm. "Commander I'm sending the tempest a lil virus meant to eradicate the program that's preventing us from detecting everything on the planet as it should be. I recommend sending this to all survey teams." "A virus?" "Yes ma'am. It's only designed to remove the program that's blocking or changing the readings on our instruments, once it completes its duty, it's program to delete itself afterwards." Keesa would explain while she was sending the program from the tricorder up to the Tempest. "Furthermore I recommend this same virus be used on all shuttlecraft and the Crusader. We wouldn't want an Aquarius class ship to be suffering as it's mothership." "Agreed… Alright I'll send this out to everyone soon as we copy it. Good work Lieutenant, perhaps you'd move completely to Starfleet soon enough? I'm sure Commander Vin would enjoy your stay." Diane would say as Keesa noticed the smile on Roku's face and gave a small sigh, "I'll talk about that after today. Keesa out."
"You know from all I've learned being an exchange officer, it's not bad over here on the Starfleet side of things. Perhaps you should consider it." Roku would comment as she was running the program through her tricorder. "Ensign Littlefield." Keesa would turn her attention to Christy suddenly, "Make sure your tricorder is set as well." "Yes ma'am." Roku only chuckled as she heard the way Keesa ordered Christy. "Not interested? Or just don't need another person's opinion?" "There may be Bajorans who have heard the call to Starfleet, but I still do everything I can for Bajor's future… We may be part of the Federation, but my loyalty still lies with Bajor." Keesa would say as Roku watched her pack up a few engineering tools into her case.
"Perhaps, but if that's the case why are you onboard the Tempest?" The Bajoran turned back to her after closing her Engineering tool kit, taking a moment to think of her response before saying, "I was requested… Apparently Commander Draht heard of my Engineering skills and saw that I was one of several that was on the list for the Officer Exchange program, and requested my presence." Roku gave a smile to Keesa before saying "Well, I'm glad to have served next to such an interesting individual." She'd say before tapping on her combadge. "Roku to Venier, I'm sending you and your team a program to your tricorders. It'll fix the scanning issues we've been having." "Acknowledge, you three start making your way in here, I want to start searching the lower levels here soon." Their Captain would reply through the communicator. "Understood, we're on our way inside." Keesa would reply as she picked up a flashlight before turning to the other two. "Come on, let's go."
Keesa, Roku and Christy would start to make their way inside, following the corridor as their tricorders began scanning and recording everything they could. They made their way up to the second floor as their tricorders detected the others there, and as they got close, they saw Rick and Sari knelt down examining something on the floor, "Did you find something Captain?" Roku would ask as Rick stood up and handed a small bronze looking cylinder to her. "A bullet shell." He'd respond as Roku took the shell to examine it, "There's a few around the floor, and we found more in a few rooms on the ground floor." "Perhaps the people who used to be here used kinetic weapons." Christy would say before she was handed the casing. She took a moment to look it over before noticing markings on it, "7… 62?" "That's the caliber of the weapon it's for. Back in the year 1845 approximately, they would put bullets on casings like this, and each one would have a marking on it to say what caliber of bullet it is, so that the bullet doesn't get used for the wrong weapon." Rick would explain as he looked around the room for a moment, tables were broken and what looked like shot through by bullets, and even walls had a few bullet holes in them. Rick would tap his combadge as he makes his way out of the room, "Venier to Tempest." "Go ahead Captain." Commander Williams would respond, "Commander we're going to try and make our way down lower into the facility. Have the survey teams picked up anything unusual?" Rick would ask as the others were following him down the stairs. "The teams had nothing to report yet, however we've detected life forms in addition to you and the teams. I'm ordering Lieutenant Rogers with Gamma Team to check it out and observe." "Understood Commander, any indication of advanced technology or power sources?"
"We are picking up some power fluctuations, but we can't identify what it is." Rick would stop for a moment to glance at the rest of the team with him, "Any signs of a ship in the area?" "Nothing on sensors." Diane would reply as Sari walked closer to her Captain, "Alright, let me know as soon as Rogers' reports back. Venier out." "Looks like this planet's getting more mysterious by the minute." Sari would comment as Rick and her began to walk next to each other, "I don't know about you, but I love and hate when I get more questions than answers."
