Republic forces in retreat! While rescuing General Aayla Secura from certain defeat, Anakin Skywalker has been seriously injured. After a narrow escape, our heroes crash-landed on the remote world of Maridun. Stranded, and with no way to contact the Republic, the Jedi receive medical aid from the peaceful Lurmen Colonists. But even on this tiny planet, the war threatens to follow the Jedi...
In the village, Commander Bly steps out of a hut as the villagers go about their daily lives. He saw two villagers stacking Jogan fruit so he helped him with the last one and he got a Jorgan fruit as a thanks. Nitro, Grant, and Grounder also helped out since they were staying there. Meanwhile, Rex was sitting when he spotted a C-9979 landing craft coming down. He contacted the clone commanders and said, "we got company gents." when Bly asked if they were friend;oes, Rex said, "Negative, sir. A droid ship. Coming straight our way." Nitro then said, "Acknowledge. Get back here." They then put their helmets on and went to tell their Jedi Generals.
"General." Bly said as he was the first clone there. When Anakin acknowledged him, Bly told them about the Separatist ship. Wag Too pointed out that the system they were in was neutral space. That was when May said, "It won't be neutral for long. Not if the Separatists have their way." Anakin then asked for help to get up but he groaned and Wag Too said, "I'm sorry, but you're still too injured to move." Outside, the villagers and Wag Too's father, Tee Watt Kaa, sees it as well. He then goes to confront the Jedi, asking, "What Menace have you brought to our village now, Jedi?" John walked to him and said, "you can't blame us, the Separatists were on their way here already. Wanna know why? To test out a new tank, on YOUR village."
"Besides, they don't even know we're here." Ashoka pointed out. Then Aayla said, "and they can't know. We've got to hide." Tee Watt Kaa said that the Jedi's presence puts them all in danger and told them to leave before their enemies find them. Ahsoka said that the villagers would need their help if they were gonna fight the separatists. But Tee Watt said they would rather die than to kill others. Ahsoka was gonna argue back, but John stopped her by saying, "we can't force them into war Ahsoka. It's their choice." Tee Watt told his son, "See that they leave, I must see what our new visitors want." Tee Watt then walked to the Separatist ship as Wag Too got the Jedi and clones out of the village while feeling conflicted at what his father did.
When Tee Watt got to the ship, the leader said, "I am General Lok Durd of the Separatist Alliance." Tee Watt introduced himself and was about to ask what Durd wanted, but Durd interrupted him by saying, "You are now under the protection of the Separatist Alliance. I congratulate you on your good fortune." Tee Watt then said, "Thank you, but we enjoyed good fortune well before your arrival." When Durd didn't reply, Tee Watt walked to catch up to him and told the general, "We are a peaceful people, General. I do not condone your presence here." Durd simply replied, "then stand aside. I would like to inspect my new colony." That made Tee Watt angry before Durd laughed and said, "Ransack this dung heap."
The battledroids then began to tear up the homes, making Wag Too ask Ahsoka why were they tearing apart their homes, pointing out they had done nothing to them. Ahsoka told him, "Violence, that's what those droids are programmed for." Ahsoka then looked at her jedi masters and asked, "Can't we do anything?" John shook his head and said, "No, and if we're found by them, the Lurmen will be slaughtered by the droids. If we make it to the tall grass, we'll be ok.'' They then walked to the tall grass as the droids got into formation and one droid told Durd, "there is no evidence of any weapons or Republic Contraband, General." Durd nodded his head and told Tee Watt, "In the future, we may conduct more periodic searches like this one, in order to maintain security." Tee Watt said in sarcasm, "Because we are such an obvious threat to you." He then said they would offer no resistance, making Durd say, "Your species is smarter than you appear." He then led the droids back to the ship.
"Father, are you ok?" Wag Too asked as he got to his father, who replied with nothing. Then walking, Wag Too said, "At least the Jedi escaped." but Tee Watt said, "Yes, but they nearly brought harm to our entire village." Wag Too stopped and said, "But now, thanks to you,we're safe to grovel before every petty tyrant who enters our system." Tee Watt turned to his son and asked him if he would mock our very way of life?, stating that he had just ensured they would have peace. Wag Too came back with, "Yes, but for the moment, and at what price?" Wag Too asked his father if he was not concerned about the Jedi at all, making Tee Watt say, "I have no quarrel with the Jedi, but we cannot help them without being drawn into their war." Tee Watt then walked off as friends of Wag Too walked up to him.
"Tub, Track the jedi. Follow them and make sure they get off world." Wag Too asked one of them who had a Carrier Butterfly. Tub nodded his head and ran off. Meanwhile, John, Anakin, Aayla, Ahsoka, May, Max, and the clone commanders rested up as Rex said, "You know, I can't figure those villagers not wanting to fight." He then scoffed and said they had no pride. John looked at Rex and said, "THey have pride, Captain, but there are neutral systems who wish to see an end to this war. Tee Watt was right, Jedi are no peacekeepers, but like I told Wag Too, the Separatists were already on their way here when we crashed." Ahsoka pointed out that they had no courage, but Aayla said, "Sometimes it takes courage to stick to one's Beliefs, young Padawan, as any Jedi well knows."
"Master Secura is right, Tee Watt was doing what he felt was good for his people." Max said to the young Padawan before Anakin said that they needed to find a ship. He pointed out that the only one around belongs to the separatists. As they spoke, someone or something was watching them. Max looked and said, "SEPARATIST PROBE DROID!" the droid shot up and Aayla shouted, "BLAST IT!" All the commanders opened fire as the Probe droid flew off. Ahsoka shouted to follow it and they all did, but Anakin was still too injured, Aayla looked back and john told her, "I got him just go!" Aayla nodded and ran ahead. John helped Anakin walk as Anakin said, "I still don't get why you choose to stay and help, if you had gone away then you wouldn't have to worry about all this."
"Yes, but as a Jedi, the duties I have adopted call for more actions. Yes I could have led my people back to my home, but we could not interact with any of them as it could create a time paradox. So staying here and helping with the clone wars is the best option we have." Anakin nodded his head and said, "I wonder what would have happened if you didn't show up." John helped him more as he said, "I've come to terms with not thinking about what could have happened and focus on the here and now." Anakin smiled as they got to a giant tree and saw the others on it. Climbing up, Ahsoka saw the two Jedi and she said, "I hope you're feeling better, Master, 'cause look what we found." as she handed him Electrobinoculars.
"Heh, I'm getting stronger all the time, Snips." Anakin said as he took the Electrobinoculars and looked through it and spotted the Separatist base. He then said, "But I'm not sure I'm ready for that." John looked through his own Electrobinoculars and said, "yeah, I have to agree, Anakin. This is gonna be difficult." they stared at the Separatist outpost. As the sun was setting, Anakin spotted a shuttle in the base and he said, "That shuttle's our ticket off this rock." Bly pointed out how it wouldn't be easy to get it as he didn't see any flaws in the security line. That was when two AATs and one modified AAT rolled out of the transport and out of the base. When Anakin saw it, he said, "Apparently the Separatists have a new toy."
Seeing the weapon Anakin saw, John clenched his Electrobinoculars and said, "the DDT." Rex asked what he was talking about, and John told him, "The Defoliator Deployment Tank. This is bad, this is very bad." Rex asked him. "How bad are we talking?" John sat down and said, "Just watch." The group looked at each other before they watched as two battle droids walked to an open area. A shell was loaded into the new weapon and it fired. The shot landed just short of the two battledroids and wiped out all organic life, while leaving the two droids unharmed.
"That's some toy, it took out every living thing." Ahsoka said before Rex looked at John and said, "That is bad." John nodded his head and said, "Told you. It wipes out all organic life, but machines are left unharmed. Why do you think the separatists chose this place, it's inhabited. The Lurmen village will be the next target if we don't move now to help them." Anakin nodded his head and said, "First we take out the droids' communication tower, then we take the shuttle to go help the Lurmen." Ahsoka pointed out that Tee Watt Kaa said that the village didn't need their help. That made John stand up and say to her, "There's a Difference, Ahsoka, between pulling innocents into a war and leaving them to extinction."
"Couldn't have said it better myself, Master Bertrand." Anakin said as they walked off the big tree. On another big tree, Tub, the Lurmen Wag Too ordered to follow them, whispered into his Carrier Butterfly, "Psst! Tell Wag Too the Separatists are returning." the creatures chirped and cluttered away. At night, the Jedi and Clones snuck up to the Separatist base. On one side, Anakin, John, and the clone commanders sat as Aayla, Ahsoka, Max and May all snuck up to the wall while avoiding the spotlights. John and Anakin then used the force to pull pebbles close to them, luring in two droids into lightsaber range. While the droids were distracted, the four other jedi ran along the wall and jumped up to get inside. Back outside the base, the same pebbles were used to make the remaining droids turn around and they saw the two Jedi while the clones took out one each, John and Anakin sliced two down.
"You two, get to the door, Master May and I will handle the droids." Aayla whispered to the three Jedi, they nodded their heads and with Max and Ahsoka jumping down, May and Master Secura ran along the top of the wall, cutting down the droids in their way. On the ground, Ahsoka and Max took out two more droids before Ahsoka opened the door for her master, John, and the clones. Moving stealthy, John, Nitro, and Rex made it to the Communication station as one droid said to another, "Check the exterior. We cannot have any surprises for the general." as Nitro took out the droid on the left as the first Droid contacted a droid numbered 4724 and asked how the west end checked out. That was when the droids saw Rex take out the second droid and John activated his lightsaber, swinging down and cutting the droid in two. Then the remaining droids were taken out.
Back at the village, Wag Too and his father were sitting in front of a campfire as Wag Too told his father about the Separatists. Tee Watt Kaa told his son that the Separatists did not attack them before and that there was no reason to think they would do it now. Wag Too then said, "Father, they would not be coming back here UNLESS they intended to do us harm. This is war!"
"But not OUR war." Tee Watt Kaa told his son. He then said, "We've done nothing to provoke them, and we WILL not. That is their way" Wag too then asked if they were just to lay down and be slaughtered, saying that even if they didn't fight the Separatists they had to defend themselves. But Tee Watt Kaa said, "Mounting a defense is still engaging in battle. If we sacrifice our beliefs, we're no better than they are. Our philosophy has helped us to survive for generations, and we will not change our morals, now or ever." Wag too clenched his first and said, "THE JEDI WAS RIGHT ABOUT YOU!"
"What did you say?" Tee Watt Kaa asked his son. Wag Too told his father, "The Jedi with the glasses and limp was right. You are stubborn until the end, and when the Jedi return to help us, I WILL HELP THEM!" back at the Separatist base, the group was running to the Shuttle, Rex spotted two Shield Generators and pointed them out. John said to the clones, "Let's take them with us." Rex and Bly activated the Generators and brought them on board the shuttle as the rest of the group got on it too. Powering the shuttle up, they took off back to the Lurmen Village. Arriving at daybreak, they landed in the middle of the village.
Getting out, John saw Wag Too and other like minded Lurmen with him as Tee Watt Kaa walked up to him and shouted, "YOU HAVE FILLED MY SON'S HEAD WITH LIES!" John shook his head and said, "I spoke the truth. The Separatists are on their way with a new weapon that will wipe this village out of we don't act." Tee Watt Kaa then told them that if it was their destiny to be destroyed in the Jedi's war, then he would accept it." As the day progressed, the Jedi, Clones, and Lurmen all managed to move pods into a barricade around the village. Rex got on top of one and looked through his Electrobinoculars. He saw the Separatist forces and said, "Sirs, droids inbound, eight minutes tops." ANakin nodded his head and said, "Ok people, let's get these shield generators into place!" and they rushed to get the generators into position. John looked at Wag Too and said, "Take them and hide, wait for my signal to come out and fight."
"Got it, let's go guys." Wag Too said before leading his people who are fighting alongside the Jedi and clones. In the Separatist ranks, Durd was in a tank and he said, "When Count Dooku sees how successful my weapon is against civilian targets, I will no doubt be promoted to a more, mm, substantial position within the Alliance." a Commander Battledroid in another tank then said, "Okay. Right." as he looked through his Electrobinoculars and said, "Well the villagers appear to have put some pods together in a barrier around the village." Durd looked at the droid and said, "Pods?" he then laughed before saying as he pulled out his own Electrobinoculars, "How quaint." looking at the village, he zoomed in and saw the Jedi, that made him say, "Jedi? What are they doing out here? Halt!"
Back in the village, John and Tee Watt Kaa were staring at each other and Nitro said to Rex, "you can cut the tension between the two with a lightsaber." Rex nodded his head in agreement and said, "yeah." Tee Watt Kaa was the first to speak and he said, "you made my son and his friends forget their beliefs." John shook his head and said, "I only spoke the truth. I understand you stand by your beliefs of non violence. But if you didn't colonize this planet and want peace, then the Separatists wouldn't have wanted to test out their weapon here. You brought your people here for peace, well it's because of you now that your lives are all in danger. Your son believes in that code of non violence. But sometimes you must go against your beliefs for the greater good."
"They're holding position." Rex said as he looked through his Electrobinoculars. May crossed her arms and said, "They're not gonna charge us…" then Max said, "Not if they can hit us from long range first." Then Anakin said, "Meaning if we can withstand that weapon, we'll draw them in." Then moments later, the DDT fired a round and Rex shouted, "Incoming!" making John say, "Power the shields!" Bly, Aayla, Nitro and Grant powered up the shield generators and made a shield bubble to protect them from the blast right before the shell struck the ground and the blast wave hit the shield. The shields held and the village was safe.
"Now they'll have to get their hands dirty and meet us face-to-face." Anakin said as he put his hands on his hips. They then climbed the Pods as John told May and Max, "this is where the fun begins." On the other side of the pods, the Jedi saw a lot of Droids charging at them and Ahsoka said, "That's a lot of Clankers." then Anakin said, "we've got to stop them before they get through the shield. The group of eleven then stepped out of the shield, ready to defend the village, lightsabers ignited, blasters aimed. The droids fire first and the Jedi block most of the bolts while the clones return fire at the droids. Anakin and John then led the other four Jedi into the droids and they began to slice through the first wave of droids while also deflecting the bolts back into their ranks.
Ahsoka jumped up and sliced two droids in half while being covered by Max. Anakin and John watched each other's backs while May covered Aayla's back. The three Jedi from the future also picked up E-5 blasters and shot the droids with them. Aayla commented that she didn't know that May and the others could use blasters. May told her, "Back before the time ship incident, we all were accustomed to blasters." Aayla was more curious about the future but knew she couldn't ask them about it.
"Five, four, three, two, one, zero. Sir, the first Squad has been destroyed." said the commander Droid. Durd groaned and said, "Squad two and three, attack!" back at the village, Ahsoka said, "That wasn't so tough." making Anakin pant and say, "that was just the first wave." Then a lot more droids charged forward, and the six Jedi met them in the middle and some droids got past them. ANakin told Ahsoka, "Snips! Get back to the village! I'll take out the new weapon!" Ahsoka nodded and the five Jedi ran back to the village as Anakin ran to the tanks. The clones held the line as best they could before they retreated back through the shield. Climbing the pods, Rex said, "Get back, they've breached the shield."
Then there were explosions as the pods were taken out and the Separatist droids swarmed the village. One B2 Super battle droid took out one of the two generators, making Nitro shout, "They're taking out the Shield Generators!" then the droids were able to take the second generator and the shield down. Durd saw that and ordered another shell to be launched. That was when the commander Droid told him, "Uh sir… THERE'S A JEDI HEADING RIGHT FOR US!" Durd simply said, "Then blast him, you idiot!" They fired their AAt's main cannon at Anakin, but he was able to dodge their blasts with no problem at all.
Back at the village, John sliced another droid in two before shouting, "NOW WAG TOO!" Wag Too nodded his head and led the villagers who were with him into battle to help the Jedi take down the droids. They beat down Droids or wrapped rope around the droid's legs. Back with Anakin, he sliced through two Super battle droids before moving onto the DDT. taking his lightsaber, he slashed across the Defoliator and sliced the barrel as it exploded, making the shell that was in it fall out. It rolled towards Durd's tank and he panicked, shouting, "Help! I'll be Defoliated!" As he got out, Anakin used the force to pull the commander droid out of the other tank and towards him to allow him to slice the droid. He then used the force to lift durd up to keep him from escaping, making Durd groan and say, "There goes my promotion." Anakin then pressed a button on his comlink and said, "The Weapon…" he panted before resuming, "Has been disabled."
"Copy that general." Rex replied before he ran out of cover and shot more clankers. Wag too then got the rope around the rest of the Droid's legs. He then threw one end into the sky, where another Lurman threw a pitch fork and it caught the loop on the rope, making it go further and it landed in the ground. Then the Lurmen all pulled, making the droids all fall and allowing Ahsoka to cut their heads all off. The Lurmen all cheered as the battle was now over.
As the Lurmen gathered up the defeated Droids, ANakin thanked Wag Too for his assistance and Wag Too thanked them and mentioned that his village would have been destroyed if not for them. Then Aayla and Tee Watt Kaa walked over to them as Bly got Durd and the assistant onto the shuttle. Tee Watt Kaa walked to John and said, "I hope you forgive me for my behavior earlier." John shook his head and said, "It is I who should be asking for your forgiveness Tee Watt Kaa. I shouldn't have said what I did. But know that violence isn't always the answer, a path of non violence could lead down a path of destruction."
Tee Watt Kaa nodded his head as three venators entered the system to pick the group up. On the Resolute, John walked up to Durd in his cell and told the clones, "Give us some privacy." The clones nodded and walked away. John opened the cell for Durd and walked in before he said, "I got an offer for you Durd, for the DDT." Durd Crossed his arms and said, "I won't tell you how to defeat it." John shook his head and said, "I wasn't going to ask that." he then disabled the camera for that cell and said, "I want to make more of it. Not for the separatists, but for a personal agenda." Durd was shocked before he said, "I'm surprised the Jedi Order is ok with it." John shook his head again and said, "This isn't for the Jedi Order, this is for me only."
"But why should I give you the schematics?" Durd asked John, who told him, "'Cause seeing how effective it works, I feel the Defoliator can be improved. I intend to do that." Durd smiled and said, "I'm sure I can give you the schematics, for the right price." John held his lightsaber up and said, "How about I spare your life in exchange for the details." Durd, wanting to save his life, agreed to it and handed him the information. John smiled and said, "thank you Durd." John then wiped Durd's memory about their conversation and let the clones return to their posts. John's plans were now a step further for the future.
