Jan comes home from school her clothes are ripped and she is in pain. The only one home is Alice she is in the kitchen starting to cook dinner.
"Hey, Jan how was school today?"
Alice said happily chopping a carrot not looking up.
"Fine," Jan said which made Alice look up. She notices straight away that Jan's clothes are torn in places and she looks rather pale. "Are you ok dear?"
"Yeah, I just tripped and fell into a tree with overgrown branches." This seems to put Alice off the scent of something serious being wrong. Alice always had a great sense of humour so she lightens the mood.
"They ought to chop down that tree as penance." Jan had a half smile as she stood nervously, afraid to move as everything hurt. Alice put her chopped-up carrots into a pot, then started on some onions which always made her get teary eyes.
"I'm going upstairs to clean up and take a nap I'm exhausted." Everything she said was true Jan just hoped Alice couldn't see through her lies. Alice said ok and went on chopping those onions, she watched Jan leave and heard her say, "Ouch." Jan didn't stop though she left really quickly and headed upstairs.
An Hour Later
Cindy and Bobby came home as did Peter, Greg and Marcia, all in the kitchen wanting food. Peter was the first to ask about Jan as he normally walked home with her then everyone else started asking.
