Chapter 23: Power of the Trident:

King Pacific's POV:

Before Pearl tells you this story, I'm going to tell you the origin of the Trident. Long ago, my Father: King Jacques begged Bai Tza to help Lemuria when it was under attack by kappas, but she refused. So, my Father took one of her tridents and used it to fight the Kappas. Bai Tza did not take that well, so they agreed to a fight. Winner keeps it. My Father won, so the trident became his and it has been passed down to me. Bai Tza, begrudgingly, accepted it, but the Kappas have sworn they would take the trident one day.

Pearl's POV:

Slippery and I were taking a look at another human item.

"What is it," asks Slippery.

"I don't know, but it goes on my wrist," says Pearl, "and look, this must be a human girl. She looks lovely. And if this is a human boy, he sure looks different from Dead Eye and those sailors." I then saw a key.

"It sure is pretty," says Same, the Prince of the Kappas.

"What do you want," I asked.

"What do you think," asks Same, "revenge of course."

"You need a hobby," says Slippery.

Same then tried to attack us, but then my Father zaps him with his trident.

"Leave my daughter alone, Same," says my Father, "as long as I have the trident, you cannot defeat us!"

"Good to know," says Same as he swims away.

"I swear, there is something wrong with that boy," says my Father, "what is on your wrist?"

"UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh... nothing," I said as I threw the bracelet away.

Same's POV:

Same: Well, if you're looking for trouble
You dun' come to the right place
If you're looking for trouble
Look me right in the face

I was born standing up
And talking back
My daddy was a mean-eyed lumberjack

Yeah, I'm evil
Yeah, just as evil as I can be
I can even tell the hoodoo child
Yeah, exactly how it's gonna be

Honey, you better tell your husband
To quit sneakin' and peekin' at me
If he wants to find out the man
That I'm supposed to be

I'll walk right up to him
Look him right in the face
I might even snap/snatch both of his legs out of place

Oh, I'm evil
Yeah, oh, I'm evil as can be
I can even tell a voodoo child
Yeah, just exactly how its gon' be

I'm gonna tell all you women
Just what it's all about
I can even tell you where the light went
When it went out

Woah, I'm evil
Yeah, I'm evil as can be
That means all you people
Yeah, you better not mess around with me!

"Father, we need to get that trident," I said.

"We have tried before," my Father says, "and failed."

"But I think I know the perfect plan," I said.

Pearl's POV:

I went back to look for that bracelet, but it was gone. Something must've taken it. I then saw it on a rock, and I grabbed it...

. . .

I opened my eyes. "What happened," I asked.

"Bad news," says General Tarron, "you're not going to believe this, but... you stole the trident and gave it to the Kappas."

"What," I asked.

"It's because of this human thing," says Porcus, "they put some kind of spell on it that made you do this deed for them!"

"Oh no," I said, "what about Daddy?"

"The Kappas plan to use the trident to execute the King," says General Tarron.

"Then we have to hurry," I said.

"My troops and I are going to face them," says General Tarron, "you should stay here with your sisters."

"But..."

"I insist," says General Tarron.

"Alright," I said.

. . .

There was no way I was going to stay put. I secretly followed the General and his soldiers. We arrived at Yonaguni, the Kingdom of the Kappas.

"The Trident is mine, at last," says Emperor Kaiyō.

"Manipulating my Daughter into stealing it for you," says my Father.

"It was my son's brilliant idea," says Emperor Kaiyō, "using her obsessing with human things against her."

"I don't know what I hate more, human things, or you," says my Father.

"Prepare him for his execution," says Emperor Kaiyō.

I then turned around and saw that General Tarron found me. "Didn't I tell you to stay with your sisters," asks General Tarron.

"This is all my fault," I said, "I had to come!"

"Alright," says General Tarron, "but it's really the Kappas that are to blame. Come with me."

. . .

We then snuck around and entered the throne room... but the trident was nowhere to be found.

"Where..." I began.

"Looking for this," asks Emperor Kaiyō as he holds up the trident.

General Tarron then turns to his shark form and tries to take the trident, but the Emperor uses its power to defend himself. He was firing magical blasts at us and we had to move out of the way.

"Something tells me this is not going to be easy," I said.

"I have the trident," says Emperor Kaiyō, "and with it, I will rule all the other kingdoms!"

I then tackled him and tried to take the trident, but he blasted me off. "That worked better in my head," I said.

"Pathetic," says Emperor Kaiyō.

The General and I then swam away.

. . .

"We're going to need a new plan," says the General.

"I think I have an idea," I said.

. . .

Same was swimming around, but then General Tarron grabs him, and I put the bracelet on his wrist.

. . .

Using the cursed bracelet, we had Same steal the Trident for us and I used the trident to free my Father.

"I still don't approve of you looking for human items," says my Father, "but at least this one made an improvement on Same. Let's go."

We then swam away.

Same's POV:

My Father freed me from the bracelet.

"That mermaid is beginning to be more trouble then she's worth," my Father said.

"I do keep telling you that," I said.

"Don't worry, my Son, this is far from over."

In the next chapter, Contaminus creates a group of sludge monsters.
