Warnings: Period-typical Homophobia
Prompt: Favourite Ship
"Kadma, you noticed it too, right?" Halinor's voice broke the silence in the room. At that moment, they both were sitting on the bed in the spacious Halinor's bedroom and were studying for upcoming exams.
Kadma didn't respond to that immediately. She only moved uncomfortably on the red blanket and barely looked up from her coursebook. Not that she was such a diligent student.
"I don't know what you are talking about," she ultimately answered. Of course, it was a lie. She was sure her girlfriend would want to bring this topic up. Sooner or later.
Halinor sighed. She didn't need her telepathic power to know that it wasn't the truth.
"I'm talking about the ruler of this city in the world we visited during the last mission," she explained in a tired voice. "She was in a relationship with another woman. Just… like you and me."
"And what about this?"
"Cassidy was talking with them both and she didn't bat an eye. She even wished them the best of luck. Nerissa and Yan Lin also didn't make any comments. So I thought… that maybe they would accept us if we came out to them."
"I don't want to burst your bubble, Hal, but Cassidy wished them luck in rebuilding their city."
"Not only in that. You weren't there from the beginning of the conversation and you didn't hear the entire thing." Halinor paused for a second trying to gather her thoughts. "Besides, we have already met people like us in many dimensions we have been to. Now, it was just the first time that either of the girls had any longer interaction with one of them. Our friends never said anything bad about homosexuals, Kadma."
Kadma winced at naming them so straightforwardly and looked at Halinor's pleading eyes, in which were gleaming sparks of hope. She hated to be that person. Involuntarily, she herself hoped that one day they would be able to tell the other Guardians about their intimacy. But she simply feared how they could react. She didn't want to lose their friendship so she preferred to be a pessimist. Two girls or boys in love was still taboo in their society.
However… The five of them have been through a lot together. They faced danger as a team and could always rely on each other, also in mundane situations. Kadma put her four companions' happiness above everything else. She would do anything for them. And her intuition was telling her that the rest of Guardians felt the same. (Although, Kadma wasn't quite sure about Nerissa recently. The keeper of the Heart of Kandrakar had been distant to all of them for some time now).
So maybe if Cassidy, Nerissa and Yan Lin weren't against strangers they met by chance, they wouldn't be against their friends either…?
"Okay, let's do this!" Kadma said suddenly with unconcealed, new-found enthusiasm, trying to sound more confident than she really was. "Though, maybe not tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Let's first prepare for it menta…". She couldn't finish her sentence because Halinor threw her arms around her neck, knocking them both over on the bed. The blonde started rubbing their cheeks together in an uncontrollable burst of joy.
"Oh, Kadma! I can't believe we'll finally tell them!" She squeaked in a high-pitched tone. Kadma smiled and wrapped her arms around her beloved's waist.
"Yeah, we will. I love you Hal, so much."
"Me too. And there's nothing wrong with it." Halinor kissed her affectionately on the forehead.
