Chapter 12: Operation Sea Devil (Pt.2)

Esperance Airfield

0800 Hours

Operation Sea Devil L-Hour +2600

Kurasame looked at the airfield with his binoculars. He can see a lot of movement as German troops are getting into position along with what he can see are tanks and armored vehicles moving about as well. Most of the hangars seemed to have been damaged to some degree but there were still some hangars that are still up. Also, the runway didn't look like it took too much damage.

"Damn, and here I thought they would not be able to launch any more planes," Kurasame cursed as he panned around the airfield. He saw that a few of the AA guns were knocked out but not all of them, as well as some 88s still operational.

"Great, with those 88s, our tanks don't stand a chance," Kurasame has already seen how the 88 guns can turn from an AA gun to an anti-tank gun fast and that already cost the marines a few tanks who had no idea what they were fighting.

"You know, you keep poking your head out like that and you are just asking to get your head shot off," Kurasame turned to the person who said that to be greeted by Kotetsu finishing his breakfast.

"Well, I rather know what I am about to head into. Besides the AA emplacements and vehicles, the pillboxes and bunkers are going to be a problem," Kurasame noted.

"Aren't we getting an airstrike and artillery support?"

"That is the plan. Though even with that, it might not do much. So, this will be a tough fight on our hands," Kurasame replied. Soon, they heard footsteps and both men turned to see Sayo arrive, panting.

"General Vandegrift wants all officers at his CP," Sayo stated after she caught her breath.

"Got it, Sayo stay here with Kotetsu and continued to observe the krauts. Report immediately if you see anything out of the ordinary," Kurasame ordered. Sayo nodded as Kurasame got up and made his way to the CP.

As he made his way to the CP, he checked his marines in their foxholes. After a day of fighting off the beach and fighting through town, it was confirmed that Kurasame was the only officer to have either not been killed or sent to the rear due to wounds. As a result, Kurasame was made company commander but was to still retain his rank, much to the annoyance of everyone that was still alive in the company.

After finishing his rounds, he finally made his way to the CP which was about a mile away from their positions. As he entered the CP, which was once a schoolhouse, he saw that there were some trucks off to the corner but instead of the white star on the side of the doors or canvas, there was none and that there were a lot of armed marines and army soldiers protecting them.

"I wonder what that is about," Kurasame thought to himself as he continued to his destination. Upon entering the school, he made his way up the stairs and headed towards the principal's office, which was serving as the "War Room".

He reached the office, which was guarded by a pair of marines, and said, "I am here for the meeting."

One of the marines gave him a look over and see his Asian features, something that obviously not German, gave him a nod and stepped aside. Kurasame opened the door and was greeted with a desk in the middle of the room, surrounded by Marine and Canadian officers with General Vandegrift at the center.

"Ah, First Lieutenant. Glad you can finally join us," Vandegrift stated with a small hint of annoyance at Kurasame for being a bit late.

"Apologies sir, I was checking on my marines. Just to be sure that everyone is ready to take the airfield," Kurasame replied, which caused Vandegrfit to nod.

"I see, well now that everyone is here, we can begin the briefing," Vandegrift then motioned to the map on the table. On it, there were markers that told where American forces were and where the German forces were.

"So, we are currently here," He pointed at the school, and our goal is to take Esperance airfield. The latest recon photos and intelligence we can get from prisoners and locals is that the Krauts have fortified the airfield with additional troops, mainly panzergrenadiers and tanks from the 119th Panzer Division. This is an addition of a regiment of Fallschirmjägers from the 4th Parachute Division and the Luftwaffe ground crews and personnel. Overall this won't be an easy fight."

"To support us, the Navy will begin shelling and bombing the airfield in 2 hours. After the Navy is done, there will be another attack that will be conducted soon after, and once that attack starts, we will follow soon after," One of the gathered officers raised her hand.

"Um, what other attack? It looks like there are only Marines and Canadians here. The army is over 100 miles away from us."

"The information of this unit is on a need-to-know basis and none of you need to know. Just know that this follow-on attack will clear the way for us but it will not completely clear the way for us. So, make sure all your men and women get some hot chow in them and are fully loaded. The rest of the division is going to attack to take the second airfield on the other side of the island so that we can prevent the Krauts from sending any fighters this way to hamper us. Now, any questions?" Kurasame raised his hand.

"Sir, will we be under bombardment from their artillery? We took some on the beach and fought through the town but so far, it has been quiet," Kurasame grimaced as he remembered a building near him getting hit by a shell and debris falling around him.

"There is a chance that we will be getting shelling from their guns since they are on top of the hill, and the only way to get to that hill is through this airfield. Any more questions?" Seeing no one else has any more questions, Vandegrift continued, "In that case, report back to your units and get ready."

As everyone left, Kurasame stayed and approached the general and said, " Sir, with respect, we are dealing with an entrenched force. Even with the Navy pounding them and airstrikes unless this follow-on attack can do God's work, then we are going to be a shitter."

"I understand where you are coming from son, but trust me that this attack will be more than enough to help you take the airfield," Vandegrift then went quiet as he walked behind the old principal's desk and looked out the window before asking, "Lieutenant, what do you know about the Valkyrias?"

"Valkyrias? Well, I know that they really have a big influence in Europa. Pretty much they are supposed to be the descendants of the Valyrur who helped bring peace to Europe by making peace with the Darcsens a long time ago," Kurasame replied, though he thought that was complete bullshit. Europa had used that excuse so that they could enslave Darcsens in droves, hell in German's case, even kill them. In Japan, the Valkyria are treated as more than stories and folklore, like the Kami or Tengu.

"I see, so you do not particularly believe in those stories then?"

"Not really sir. There isn't any evidence to suggest what really happened during the Darcsen Calamity and also I think people just use it as a way to hate on Darcsens in Europa. Personally, I will believe it when I see it," Kurasame answered truthfully.

"Hm, I see," Vandegrift then sighed and said, "Well son, all I can say is that you may see something that may not be real to your eyes but trust me that it is. You are dismissed."

Feeling confused, Kurasame saluted the general who returned it and then exited the office.

As he made his way out of the building and back to his position, he took a glance over at the trucks that were still in their corner but this time, there were more troops protecting them.

"I wonder if whatever they are guarding is this thing that may not be real that the general was talking about."

"So, to sum it up: we need to take this airfield so that we can then start taking out those damn guns," Kurasame concluded. He called for a briefing with everyone once he came back. He then went on to brief them on the impending attack and the reasons for it. Most of the surviving NCOs and officers were gathered and since there was still a delay in getting replacements, some NCOs are acting as officers for their platoons.

"So, basically, we attack after our 'secret weapon' thins out the enemy?" One of the marines asked.

"Pretty much. For our company, we need to make our way to the administrative building that is connected to their tower over there," Kurasame replied, pointing to the control tower.

"What is this weapon anyway? I mean, unless it is a big ass bomb that can take out a good chunk of the airfield, then we can not really rely on this secret weapon," Another Marine asked.

"Well, the general has confidence in it so we just have to trust him. Anyway, check your ammo and make sure everything is squared away. We launch the attack within the hour," Kurasame stated, dismissing the group. As everyone began to return to their units, Kurasame took a deep breath, took his canteen out, and took a swig.

"So, no idea what this weapon is?" Guren asked as he approached Kurasame.

"None whatsoever. I saw a few trucks back at the CP and it was being protected by a ton of guards. Though, I have no idea what it could be," Kurasame noted.

"Who knows? Maybe it is some new artillery piece?" Guren suggested.

"Maybe but I didn't see a gun or ammo for that matter. Well, whatever it is, we will find out soon enough." The two finally made it back to their positions to see that everyone was getting ready for the attack. They saw that Sayo was preparing her radio and making sure that it works, Miwa was looking over her medical bag and double-checking everything, and Kotetsu was still looking out to the front while Cloud and Leon were helping Joseph with disassembling the M1919 machine gun.

He then saw the two Canadian soldiers talking to themselves. Since they could not locate their own unit, it was decided that they will be added to Kurasame's company, for now at least until they can sort out the personnel situation.

"How are you two holding up? Must be different, being with a marine unit and all," Kurasame asked.

"Really not much different from our old until, though you guys love to swear a lot," Logan commented, making Kurasame chuckle.

"Well, we are attached to the Navy. Comes with the territory though I think we even give the Navy guys something to blush about sometimes."

"Yeah, we can see that ourselves," Jason replied as he finished cleaning his gun.

"Well, if anyone gives you two any kind of trouble, let me know. I know that some marines can go…. A bit overboard with their jokes," It is no surprise that marines are known to throw jokes and insults that would make the blood boil but Kurasame has seen and, in some cases, that some of those insults could lead to fights and he has spent enough time in the brig to remember that.

"Don't worry about us, sir. My brother and I can handle it," Logan said confidently, causing Jason to shake his head, chuckling.

"Glad to hear it," Kurasame replied and he returned to his old position. He then checked his own equipment and decided to eat some breakfast.

1 Hour and 55 Minutes later

Three trucks came to a stop right at the rear of the front. In front of them, marines and Canadian troops were all looking toward the airfield, and you can feel the tension in the air. Only five more minutes before the Navy unleashes hell on the airfield but even that will not be enough to either dislodge or hurt the Krauts. So, command had decided that to take the airfield as well as put some more steam in the campaign, it was time to show the krauts America's secret weapon.

Only, the weapon is not a new piece of machinery or technology, but a person instead.

Stepping out of the truck, Qun'mi stretched a bit as she had been confined to said truck since last night. She shielded her eyes from the sun as her sight began to adapt to the light again. Once she is used to the sunlight again, she can see the enemy positions as well as the positions of enemy AA guns and tanks.

"Well, it seems like they are getting ready to meet our attack," Qun'mi turned around to see a woman walking up to her in a lab coat over her shirt and skirt. She had long blond hair that was tied in a bun. She was cleaning her glasses with her coat before putting them back on.

"Scared?" The woman asked Qun'mi. This woman is Ines Belfarre, one of the scientists working for the War Department in researching Valkyrias.

"I wouldn't say scared but more anxious," Qun'mi replied, clenching and unclenching her fists. Ines walked up to her and grabbed her right arm and squeezed it.

"Just take a deep breath," Ines said. Once she saw Qun'mi take a deep breath, she continued, "I know you are worried about your powers after what happened in the past but you have more control over it now. I know that you can control it. Remember, you just need to focus on taking out the armored vehicles and the pillboxes. The rest will be handled by the infantry."

"Understood," Qun'mi simply answered. Ines nodded, she then walked to one of the trucks and pulled out a round shield that had a sword hilt connected to it. It had a spiral design on it, making it stand out. It also looked heavy as Ines had a hard time carrying it to Qun'mi.

Qun'mi had to admit that seeing Ines trying to carry the heavy shield caused her to giggle a bit, causing Ines to frown at her.

"Excuse me for not having superhuman strength," Ines stated as she handed Qun'mi the sword and shield combo.

"It really isn't that heavy and I only get that strength once my powers are activated," Qun'mi replied back. She held the shield in her left hand and hefted it a bit to make sure that it wasn't uncomfortable for her. Once everything was comfortable for her, Qun'mi then walked over to Ines and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"Don't worry about me, I will be fine. Don't want my wife to be lonely now, do I?' Qun'mi commented and winked at the blushing Ines. She then turned and walked towards the airfield.

As she walked past marine and Canadian positions, people would stare at her in surprise and in disbelief as Qun'mi continued to walk towards the airfield.

"Yeah, where the fuck you going lady?" One of the marines yelled at her. She ignored the call as she finally reached the front. She looked at her watch.

"And the bombardment should be beginning now…." The moment that Qun'mi said that she could hear the distance booming from the battleships and cruisers and soon, the shells started hitting the airfield, covering it in dust and smoke.

As the bombardment continued, Qun'mi readied her mind. This will be the first time she will be using her powers in combat, and the first time that she will use her powers while she is in control.

"I can't let this control me again. Not like that time," Qun'mi muttered to herself. She closed her eyes as she remembered that time: the blue flames, her little brother lying on the ground faced down….

Qun'mi shook her head to get rid of that image, "No, now is not the time. If I don't focus, a lot of people are going to die. And even though I won't be able to save everyone, at least what I can do is lower the casualty rate."

As she said that, the bombardment began to tamper out.

"Alright, time to get to work," Qun'mi told herself.

Cue Valkyria's Awakening OST

Qun'mi closed her eyes and focused. Soon, a blue glow began to emit from her body. All the Marines and Canadian soldiers who were nearby watched in amazement as a blue fire began to envelop Qun'mi. Qun'mi could feel all the energy and power coarse through her veins. Despite being engulfed in flames, she doesn't feel any pain from it.

Once she reached her peak, she opened her eyes and glared toward the runway. Her normally brown eyes were now bright red. She then reached for the sword that was on the shield and began to pull it out.

The shield started to spin as she continued to pull the sword out. Once the sword was fully out, the shield stopped spinning and expanded, showing a unique design. The sword that was pulled out was in the form of a rapier and then it got bigger after Qun'mi squeezed it. The marines and Canadian soldiers all looked in amazement as well as in fear as for all of them, this is the first time that they have ever seen a Valkyria in the flesh. Different from Europe, many Americans never really believed in the Darcsen Calamity and that Valkyrias were just old folklore and stories that adults tell kids at night.

Well, that thinking went out the window for everyone after seeing Qun'mi turn into a Valkyria.

The moment the last shell hit the airfield, Qun'mi dashed forward. However, dashing was an understatement as she sped forward at a speed that was not achievable by anything. As Qun'mi ran forward, she left behind a blue mist in her wake.

The Germans were getting their heads up from the shelling and were getting ready to confront the Americans and Canadians as they attacked but what they saw was something else entirely.

"Was zum Teufel ist das?!" A German soldier exclaimed as he saw Qun'mi just dashing towards their lines.

As many of them took a few seconds to see what was coming to them, a Fallschirmjägerin knew what was coming to them.

"Es ist eine Walküre!" she yelled out, fear evident in her voice. Soon, that same phrase was yelled out across the German line, and then came the order.

"Offenes Feuer! Töte sie!" Soon, machine guns, cannons, and rifle fire rang out. Qun'mi felt all the eyes and guns were on her as gunfire aimed at her. She could see the explosions of shells that fell short hitting the ground in front of her. Not wanting to take the risk of a stray bullet or shell hitting her, she brought her shield up. Soon, she could hear and feel the bullets and occasional shells hitting it.

The gunfire became more frantic and even desperate as Qun'mi reached the runway. Wanting to save the tower as well as some hangars, Qun'mi took aim at one of the hardened bunkers that the Germans had set up. It was set up that the top half had a tank turret, specifically a Panzer IV turret, and the lower half had a slit for a machine gun next.

Qun'mi charged up her power, causing a power surge to her weapon. Her rapier began to build upon energy and she had to lean her arm back due to the power that was building up. Once she feels like she had enough power for a shot, she focused her sights on the bunker and fired.

A streak of plasma streaked from her rapier and shot towards the bunker. Going at the speed of sound, the plasma shot hit the bunker. The plasma hit the bunker, burning through it like nothing. The machine gunner and loader were vaporized in an instant while the crew in the tank turret were killed by the exploding ammo. Said exploding ammo also blew the turret off its ring, causing it to fly into the air. It landed a few yards away, upside down.

Qun'mi then had to take a few deep breaths since that shot took a lot of energy out of her but she didn't have time for any breaks as gunfire continued to be heaped onto her. He used her shield to block the bullets from hitting her and she looked up to see that a tank was coming toward her.

"Oh great," Qun'mi muttered. She then observed it for a bit as it made its way toward her. She waited until it was close enough and then started to run towards it. The Panzer IV fired its short-barreled 75mm gun at her. The tank round left the barrel and headed right to Qun'mi. To many, it was hard to see the tank shell coming to her but for Qun'mi, it was like seeing a baseball heading to her.

Instead of raising her shield this time, she waited until the shell was within striking distance and once it was, she brought her rapier up and swatted it away. The shell flew away and landed a few feet away from her, exploding once it hit the ground.

As she got closer, the tank started to use its machine guns to fire on her. Both the turret and radio operator machine guns opened up as she got closer but the bullets would not stop her. Once she was within a good distance, she dashed past the tank. In the process, she used her rapier and the force of the dash to cut the tank in half. Like the turret pillbox before it, the turret was removed from the tank's hull and landed a few feet away. There was a brief pause before an explosion destroyed the hull.

She then started to take a lot of fire from a prepared position from a nearby building. There were two machine-gun nests stationed in the building as well as a platoon of infantry. They were all firing on her to try and see if they could either kill her or slow her down so that something else can try and kill her.

Neither would be the case as she then focused on that building, charged up, and then shot a plasma round at the building. It carried the force of a HE round as it hit the building, resulting in it going up in an explosion throwing pieces of the building as well as body parts into the air, killing everyone in the building.

OST ends here

By now, there was a genuine fear of Qun'mi at this point. However, Qun'mi began to become more fatigued and out of breath. She used a lot of her energy to cause enough destruction she could but now she was at her limit. Blocking rounds and bullets as well as firing on the enemy has drained a good chunk of her energy as well as stamina. She was breathing heavily now and was starting to sweat a little bit, even though she was still covered in a blue flame.

As she tried to recover a bit, she began to notice that the fire coming to her was slowly dying down a bit. She looked up and she saw that much of the gunfire was now going past her. She looked behind and saw that the Marines and Canadians were pushing forward. German artillery from the hill was firing now but since a good chunk of the German defenses was focusing on Qun'mi, not a whole lot of them had been firing on the charging American and Canadian forces.

As some of the marines and soldiers ran past her, one of them approached her. She recognized him as one of Andrew's marines.

"Are you alright ma'am?" Kurasame asked as he knelt near her. Since the flame was too hot, he couldn't really get near her.

"I am fine, just need to catch my breath. I think I got their attention enough for you all," Qun'mi stated.

"Well…. Not a whole lot," An explosion near them brought that home, "Don't worry ma'am we can take care of the rest. You should fall back for now."

Qun'mi can only nod as she slowly got up and made her way back towards their lines.

Kurasame waited a bit, making sure that she at least was closer to their lines, and then turned around and continued to advance. As he ran, dodging bullets and shells, the scene still played in his head. Qun'mi ran ahead, destroying German positions and drawing fire onto her. Everyone was in a daze until someone yelled for them to advance. At first, no one moved from their position but once everyone saw that Qun'mi was getting sluggish, the attack started.

Kurasame and his company were in the second wave of the attack and once the first company was about a quarter of the way to the runway, he ordered his company to advance. As they got out of their positions to assault the airfield, that was around the same time that the artillery from the hills started to rain fire.

As everyone ran, a few shells landed in the middle of a group of marines, killing some instantly while some were mauled. Others were hit by some machine gun and rifle fire, as the Germans refocused their attention on the large mass of soldiers and marines coming towards them.

Kurasame had made his way to Qun'mi just to make sure that she was ok. However, due to the intense heat from the flame, he could not get too close to her.

Now, back to the present, Kurasame found the rest of his group taking cover in a crater. He made his way to them and jumped in.

"How are we doing?" Kurasame asked Guren.

"Most of the company is pretty much scattered around the airfield. We also appear to be the ones that are the closest to the tower," Guren said, motioning his head. Kurasame looked up and sure enough, they were closer to the tower than any of the other units.

"Ok, we are going to take that tower then," Kurasame said as he turned to Kotetsu, "I want you to snipe any of those bastards that come out."

"Got it," Kotetsu replied as he aimed his rifle at the tower.

"Ok, here is the plan. Sayo and Miwa will stay here with Kotetsu and provide cover fire while Guren, Jason, and Logan will be with me to clear the tower. Leon, Cloud, and Joseph will secure the entrance to the tower just in case those bastards try to get at us from behind." Kurasame ordered. Once everyone acknowledged the order, everyone got ready.

Once everyone was in position and ready, Kurasame then yelled, "Covering fire!" Guren began to let loose with a 30. Cal machine with Sayo holding the belt while Miwa and Kotetsu were firing at the top of the tower, keeping the Germans up there to keep their heads down.

Once they were doing that, Kurasame and his group got up and rushed toward the tower. The rest of the company saw this and began to provide cover fire for the group. After running towards the tower and avoiding the gunfire on them, they reached the door.

Kurasame motioned Leon, Cloud, and Joseph to provide security around the entrance. Once that was completed, he looked over to Logan and Jason. Both of them nodded and the Kurasame kicked the door. He brought his M1 carbine to bear as he entered the control tower. Logan and Jason followed him inside. Since they were at the bottom of the tower, there wasn't much.

What was important was at the top.

Kurasame, Jason, and Logan began to make their way up the stairs. As they climbed the stairs, the building shook a bit from a nearby shell hitting the ground. After climbing for about a few minutes and as they approached the top, they all can hear German.

"Do any of you two have a grenade?" Kurasame asked. Jason shook his head no but Logan pulled a grenade from his webbing.

"Alright, get ready to charge up," Kurasame stated. Both men nodded and then Kurasame took a deep breath and then pulled the pin. He waits for 3 seconds until throwing it up into the control room.

"Granate!" A German soldier yelled before a loud explosion was heard. The three rushed up into the room. Once they arrived, the bodies of soldiers, dismembered from the grenade blast. Some were still alive and were moaning in pain.

Kurasame then heard a noise and turned around to see a wounded German trying to get up, pointing a rifle right at him. Kurasame did not hesitate and fired three rounds into her. She crumbled to the ground and stopped moving.

Kurasame heard more gunshots and turned around to see that Jason and Logan were finishing up the wounded Germans.

"They may be the enemy but they are also human. They shouldn't have to suffer," Jason stated. Kurasame nodded, understanding that. Once they all checked and all the Germans were dead, He went outside onto the railing and looked over where everyone else was. He waved at them to let them know that he secured the tower.

He soon had to duck back into the control room as German machine gunfire.

"Well, we got the tower. Now what?" Logan asked.

"We hold onto it. We will set up the machine gun on the other side of the railing and provide the fire for everyone else. We also have a clear view of the rest of the airfield so we can call in accurate coordinates for the ships and planes," Kurasame pointed out. Logan and Jason nodded at that as Kurasame looked out the window. He can see that the Germans were crumbling. He saw a tank try to back up but its treads were taken out by a bazooka team. Then a Canadian got onto the tank, opened the hatch, and threw a grenade inside. He then jumped off as the grenade exploded inside the tank, killing the crew.

He then looked around and then saw the number of bodies of Marines and Canadians and he then shuddered.

"I wonder, if Qun'mi did not show up, I wonder how many more casualties we would have gotten."

"Looks like we will take the airfield sir," Vandegrift nodded as he continued to observe the attack from a distance. He along with the rest of his staff were looking on from their command post near the front. Outside of the occasional shell falling here and there, there was nothing that was making them in danger.

"Any word on casualties?" Vandegrift asked.

"As of now, we can not get a good estimate, sir. Our forces are still fighting near some of the hangars but overall enemy resistance is dying down. From what the prisoners have told us, it looks like the appearance of the Valkyria demoralized them. Some even just left their vehicles and positions and just ran," One of the staff officers stated.

"Well, that is good then. That means our casualties are hopefully low," Vandegrift stated before asking, "Do we have any word on my daughter?"

"She made it to our lines but then passed out. She is currently recovering back at the CP," Someone reported. Vandegrift nodded and then looked back at the map. While he did not show it, he was a bit worried about his daughter's health.

Aid Station

"Excuse me you can't-'' The nurse was ignored as three women made their way to a certain hospital room. Two of them were wearing the standard army uniform with their ranks on their shoulders, both being lieutenants. They were also twins as they had the same face and white hair, even the same haircut. The woman leading them was wearing battle armor that looked like it was from ancient times. It was Blue with shades of black and gold here and there. She had a white skirt that only covered her left leg and had knee-high metal boots with black stockings also noticeable was the big sword on her hip. She had long white hair that was tied in a braid and she has aquamarine eyes. They finally reached the room they needed to reach but it was guarded by two marines armed with submachine guns.

"Can we help you?" One of the marines asked as the three women approached the room.

"Yes, we would like to see the person in this room," the woman in the odd clothing, in the marine's eyes, stated.

"I am sorry ma'am, only authorized personnel are allowed in this room," the marine replied.

"I believe that we are authorized personnel, as you can see with this," One of the lieutenants stated firmly, pulling out a piece of paper from her pocket. She handed it over to the marine, who took it and gave it a read. Once he finished, he was still hesitant but he relented.

"Very well. But we have to warn you: her wife is due to visit soon and well….. She can be rather protective," the marine warned.

"We won't do anything, I assure you," the woman in the weird clothing said. The marine nodded and he motioned the other to step away. The three women then entered the room.

The room had only one bed but that was all the room needed as Qun'mi lay on the bed. She was asleep as the women approached the bed but they also saw that she was squinting her eyes and mumbling something.

"She must have used a lot of energy during the attack," One of the officers said before turning to her superior, "So, why are you so interested in her, Lenneth?"

"Because she has potential. While I am surprised that the Marines had a Valkyria and kept her hidden, after seeing her power I can see why. She can't control her power output well, making her fatigued. This will be a problem for her later," Lenneth commented as she approached the side of the bed.

"She may have potential but from what I can tell from seeing her in action, she is still rough around the edges," The same officer stated.

"She is not like you, Kara. She doesn't just rush ahead and spear anything and everything," Lenneth commented back.

"That is why Haru is with me. I charge in and Haru covers me," Kara stated with Haru nodding in agreement.

"And what will happen if an enemy attacks Haru and you at once? Who will cover you both then?" Lenneth inquired.

"C'mon, that will never happen. You saw what the Germans threw at her and they barely made a dent out of her shield," Kara responded, pointing to the shield leaning on the way, looking pristine and showing no damage at all.

"We already know that the Germans have one Valkyria but we had received additional intel that they have another one. She is based along the border with Russia," Lenneth replied.

"What?! This is the first time we have heard of this."

"That is because I didn't believe it at first until additional evidence pointed otherwise. This means we need all the help that we can get and she," Lenneth nodded to Qun'mi, "will be the extra help we may need in the future."

Kara was about to say something until they heard the door open and a pistol being cocked. All three women turned around to see Ines, pointing a pistol at them.

"I don't give a fuck if you all are from that special unit, I want you all to leave now!" Ines yelled.

"You honestly think that…." Kara was about to retort until Lenneth stopped her by placing a hand on her shoulder.

"I apologize for the unexpected visit. We just wanted to check up on her health. Seeing as she is fine, we will leave," Lenneth said. She then motioned Kara and Haru to leave with her. As they walked past Ines, Lenneth stopped beside her.

"I know you worry and care for her but we can help her control that power she has," Lenneth offered.

"And I remember how the scientists that approached her for that caused her to have a panic attack," Ines growled back.

"They have been removed already. I assure you that things are different now. You do not have to trust us but please think about it. I believe she too has people she wants to protect," Lenneth said and then left the room, closing the door on her way out.

This left Ines alone in the room with Qun'mi, gripping the pistol tight in her hand.

Randgriz, Principality of Gallia

Imperial Gallian Army Headquarters

"Good morning, this is Alvar Lidell and this is the BBC. Yesterday, the American assault on German territories continued with American forces making gains but with heavy losses. Reports also indicate that a supposed Valkyria helped in an attack on an airfield but that has not been confirmed. The U.S War Department has declined to comment on this and instead focused on the advances on German positions. Meanwhile, in Gallia, the Imperial German Army continues to make advances in Gallia, with the taking of the town of Vasel some 20 miles away from Randgriz. The capital is now within range of German attacks and many believe that it will-" The broadcast ended with a staff officer turning the radio off.

"Oi, turn that back on I was listening to it," Andrew asked the staff officer who ignored him. Andrew was about to get up but Kurt held him back.

"Try not to make too much trouble," Kurt stated.

"Oh, and us being in a penal unit is not trouble enough," Andrew commented back. Kurt was about to say something but held back as Andrew had a point. The two were called in today by Crowe about a mission but they had no idea what for.

Though the two can guess what it was.

The staff officer's phone started to ring and he picked it up. After a few minutes, he hung up the phone.

"The colonel is ready for you two," he said bluntly. The two then got up and made their way to Crowe's office. Once they approached the door, Kurt knocked on it.

"You can come in," came a response. Kurt opened the door and the two were greeted by Crowe and someone else.

Judging from the body form and build, it was a woman. She had long dark brown hair that is tied in a bun and hazel eyes. She had an average chest size but it was the uniform that caught Andrew's and Kurt's attention. She was wearing the Nameless uniform but the main difference is that she did not have the arm gauntlets but instead had her sleeves rolled up and wore fingerless gloves. She also had shoulder armor on both shoulders. She had a sword, which looked to be like an officer's sword.

"Before we start, this here is number 14, Caitlyn Knight. She will be joining the squad as a sniper as well as your swordsman or woman," Crowe stated.

"I am No. 7 and this is 28, welcome to the squad," Kurt stated as Andrew nodded her way.

"Pleasure to meet you, lads," Caitlyn replied with a heavy accent, which Andrew could tell to be from a Northern accent, probably from North Yorkshire.

"Is she going to be the only reinforcement for the squad?" Andrew asked.

"Nope, there are more, they will meet you at your next mission's location," Crowe said nonchalantly.

"And where will that be?" Kurt asked. Crowe took a swig from his flask before he answered him.

"Your next mission will be assisting in retaking Vasel."

Hey everyone, sorry for the long delay. Got writer's block on this story so it took way longer to complete this chapter. In the next one, we will return to Gallia and see how the Nameless will help liberate Vasel from the Germans. As always, hope you guys enjoyed the chapter and see you all later.
