Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy

J

"Jack, time for bed!"

"5 more minutes, Bunny!"

"Jack, bed. Now." Bunny said in a stern voice.

"Fine. See ya in the morning."

"Of course, Jack."

Jack, a thin teenager with shaggy white hair entered a bedroom with ice blue walls, snowflake decals, and many band posters on the walls. The boy put on his pajamas and climbed into bed. He plugged his phone in, played some music, and promptly fell asleep. He slept peacefully throughout the night with no interruptions or loud noises that would startle him awake.

All at once, the sleeping child was awake with a few finger jerks on one side and his hand jerking on the other. The boy groans to himself and waits for the jerking to stop. He slowly climbs out of bed and begins to prepare for the day. He finds his customary icy blue hoodie as well as his dark brown skinny jeans and heads downstairs where his breakfast awaits.

"Did you sleep well?" asks a tall, broad-shouldered man with a long beard and tattoos.

"Yes, North, I slept fine." he said while grabbing bacon and making a bowl of cereal simultaneously.

"Good."

Following the short conversation was silence, only interrupted by the sounds of chewing or Bunny's newspaper turning. Jack was done eating and left for school where he met up with his friends.

The day went slowly for Jack, as he simply wanted school to be over so he could go to rehearsal after school. The production was coming up and there was a lot of work to be done. He had a lot of lines that still needed memorizing and he was quickly reaching the deadline to be off book. He walked onto the stage to talk with his friends on the tech crew since it is the first rehearsal on stage with mostly functional set. The directors arrived and so they rehearsed the play for the next two hours. Before Jack knew it, it was time to go home.

"I'm home!" Jack yelled as he set his stuff down at the door. Right after the teen said this he was bombarded by flashes of color as well as a little streak of gold. "Tooth, hi! I wasn't expecting to be bombarded! Hey, Sandy. I didn't know you guys were coming home today."

"Neither did we. We just got in." she said as Jack gave them another hug.

"How was the trip?"

"Oh, you know, the usual." Tooth responded as Sandy nodded.

"Good. Well, I'm starving so I'm gonna see what is for dinner."

North and Bunny were standing in the kitchen both wearing aprons and stirring different pots on the stove. "What's cooking?"

"It's a surprise."

"As long as I like it, I don't care."

The spaghetti dinner was quickly finished and served. They were all sat at the table and began digging in. The average dinner conversation happened with the usual questions.

Somehow, Jack managed to get them all to play Monopoly even though it was a school night. As per usual, Jack was first to be bankrupt. He left to grab his homework and did in silent companionship until it was time for him to go to bed. He quickly fell asleep after he crawled into his bed.

Waking up, Jack looks at the clock on his bedside table and sees that it is only 3:30 in the morning. He tries to go to sleep but then remembers that he had left his radio on. He goes to turn it off but as he stands up he is encountered with sudden dizziness and realizes that the radio now sounds lower than it was.

Jack realizes that this isn't good and yells, "Sandy!" before he falls to the ground with tense muscles. Just before the spasms begin, the light is flicked on and he sees the fuzzy outline of Sandy's concerned face before his eyes rolled back in his head.

The young boy was suddenly aware of the world around him and he could somehow sense the presence near him. He peeled his eyes open and blinked to make the fuzziness disappear. Above him, he saw the concerned face of Sandy and watched as he slowly signed the question, "Do you know what happened?"

It took Jack a lot longer than normal to translate and decipher the question but he eventually answered, "Did I have a seizure?" with slightly slurred words as his eyes began to slip closed again.

Jack heard Tooth's voice say, "Don't go to sleep yet, Jack. I know you're tired but not yet."

He felt large arms pick him up and cradle him and place him gently on his bed, knowing that his muscles would be sore. Once on the bed, the teen curled up and went to sleep and this time, the adults let him and he slept peacefully without any interruptions for the rest of the night.

A/N: New chapter! YAY! Celebrate! It only took forever. It too k me forever to get an idea but then I decided to give Jack that form epilepsy found on a website that Zeef told me about. (It was super useful!) The mycologic part means that it is just little jerks instead of full out seizures but it is still possible to get the seizure as shown by Jack. From my research, I found that it can be brought upon by not sleeping which is not included much but hopefully the idea is found easily enough.

Don't forget that I answer the reviews on my tumblr, link on my bio if anyone is curious. As always, it was edited by my sister, THE EDITOR.

THE EDITOR'S Note: As per the usual it took forever to update the next chapter but it is here at last, and on Thanksgiving no less. I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and for those who celebrate Thanksgiving, have a merry and feast worthy Thanksgiving.

As always, read, review and enjoy!
