Writers Notes: Welcome to Bordeline Betrayal!
Bella felt like something was stolen from her and she wasn't sure who it was. She felt like it was Lukas, since he was in the shower when she came to. She felt anger inside and she just wanted to break things. Her brain was a little fuzzy on that night anyways. She drank too much and she regretted it in the morning when Eric had them running up and down a set of stairs in Seattle and she figured out that was the plan the whole time. Eric knew that recruits would drink stupidly and then the punishment the next day would be the lesson. So she was angry at herself. Maybe if she hadn't been drinking, then she would have been able to defend herself easier.
Today they were throwing knives at a target. Bella was number 6 on the board and she hadn't changed spots in a week and she was starting to think she had plateaued. Bella was good with her aim, the first few throws were a little off, but she figured out how to throw the knives the right way so they would land and stick in her target with each throw.
Tris was doing terrible, as was Al and some others seemed to be doing pretty terrible as well, but not as bad as Tris was doing. She wasn't suited for Dauntless and Bella could see that, but she tried to remain supportive for her sister.
Eric watched the recruits and he admitted that some of the transfers were impressive. He tried to find out all he could about Bella, but it was pretty straight forward. She tested Dauntless on her aptitude test and she chose Dauntless. She was naturally more athletic than her sister and she was just fiercer. She would be a the top recruit and he was certain of that. But just because that's what he thought, didn't mean he would let up on her or the other recruits.
"Alright, take a break." Eric grunted out and everyone stopped, except Bella. She kept throwing her knives. "Bella, take a break."
"I don't need one." Bella said, her tone irritated.
Eric walked over and stood beside her, his arms crossed. "That wasn't a suggestion. We have other things to work on. It's clear you've mastered this one." He said, his voice was strict, and if looks could kill, his would.
Bella threw the final knife and turned and looked up at Eric. "Fine." She said and walked away, her braided ponytail swaying when she did.
Tris was a little worried about her sister. It was like Bella woke up and was a completely different person. Naturally Tris was also a little jealous. She had always been slightly envious of her sister. She knew that her sister scored Dauntless on her aptitude test. She had been spying that day, wanting to see what her brother and sister's results were. She had scored Abnegation and she hated that. Hated herself and she wanted to be better, which is why she chose Dauntless in the first place. She didn't think she could cut it in Erudite, but that was before she realized that Dauntless would kick out the recruits that didn't make it above the red.
Bella started punching on a bag, she was aggressive, letting her anger out on the bag. She was pathetic, she let someone rape her in the shower. She did that. She was the only one to blame for that. She glanced up and saw Lukas, he was talking to Will and his face seemed passive. For some reason it made her angry, just seeing him acting like nothing was wrong. She was certain now that it had to be Lukas and she would beat him. Prove to him that she was stronger than the sad, drunk girl in the shower. She busted her knuckles open on the bag, but that didn't stop her. When she felt a hand on her shoulder, she spun and went into an aggressive fighting stance, but it was Jasper, the Erudite transfer that was quiet most of the time. He was able to deflect her blows with ease and there was a reason he was number four on the board.
"That's enough!" Eric's voice boomed and it made Bella stop. "Take some laps." He yelled at Bella.
Bella growled a little but she started running around, doing her laps like Eric instructed.
Later that night Bella went to the bazaar, she ignored Tris and Christina's attempts to figure out what was going on with her. She was shutting people out and lashing out at people. Every remark was a smartass remark and it was clear that Eric was getting frustrated with her and even Four. She found a place that cut hair and she decided to go inside. The person that was there cutting hair had dark hair, spiked in a mohawk and had bright red tips. Their nose was pierced and so was their ears up and down and the black, bold ink seemed bright against their skin. She waited her turn which wasn't long and she was sitting in the chair now, getting her long hair chopped off. It was the beginning of a new Bella.
Bella was satisfied with the haircut. It was cut off to her shoulders and she felt so much lighter now. She made her way to the bar, deciding a few drinks wasn't going to kill her. She learned that the alcohol that she was drinking was called Tequila and that seemed to be her favorite. She took to the dancefloor and started dancing. She was a great dancer and the people around her thought as much too. The music was dangerous for her, her body winding around, twisting and curving to the music and that somehow brought her joy.
Lukas walked into the bazaar, a little tense. He had some sparring with Jasper earlier and Jasper was slightly stronger than he was as far as how much strength he had, but Lukas was more experienced. He still won, but it did push him farther, like Bella had the first time he sparred her. He ordered a beer and then started drinking it before Bella caught his eye. She looked different, with her hair cut off and he thought about last night and how she danced against him. Everything was so lighthearted then, but she slapped him last night in the shower. Such anger from her and today he noticed she was explosive. He finished his beer and then decided to poke the bear some, so he went to the dance floor. Bella turned, her blue-green eyes staring at him.
Bella felt anger immediately when she saw Lukas. She wanted to punch him in the face, wanted to destroying him for taking something from her, but she backed herself down. It was likely the alcohol that made her bold, but she went to him and slithered against him.
Lukas was a little surprised at her attaching herself to him, but he didn't complain, his hands going to her waist as they danced. She twisted around, her ass pressing into him, and he found her highly erotic, his dick hardening just from her grinding against him, so he moved away her slightly, turning her to face him. "You are a very frustrating individual." He said in her ear.
Bella rolled her body against his, her hands moving over his hard chest, the rippling in his muscles were very defined. He grew up Dauntless, so he would be in great shape. "So are you." She purred and then she moved away from him, leaving him on the dance floor. She found herself drinking another Tequila, and Lukas moved to her side.
Lukas watched her down the drink. "Maybe drinking a lot is a bad idea." He offered.
"Fuck off." Bella spat.
Lukas shook his head. She did a complete 360 on him. She was all over the place and it was frustrating to even talk to her because he didn't know whether she was going to flip out on him or if she was just going to be chill. "You know what, whatever." He shook his head and then ordered a beer. Jasper walked up and he fist bumped him. "Hey are you sore?"
"A little." Jasper said and nodded to the bartender and he brought him a beer. He took a drink and then looked over at Bella, who was just sitting there staring into her drink. "Hey, you good?" He asked her, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Dude I wouldn't." Lukas warned.
Bella sighed and shifted, getting up from her seat and moving away from Jasper's touch. She didn't even say a word. She just left.
Jasper raised a brow and looked at Lukas. "So, does she just genuinely hate me? I don't recall sparring her to make her pissy with me."
"Fuck if I know." Lukas muttered. "She's… frustrating."
"Mmm. Yeah, but aren't all the crazy ones hot." Jasper said with a grin before he took a drink of his beer.
Lukas shook his head, finishing his beer. "I feel like a tat. Wanna come?"
"Sure." Jasper said and finished his own beer.
Bella stood at the bazaar boutique, just looking at herself in the mirror. She felt like she was different, more so than just a haircut. The dark clothing somehow made her look intimidating, but she couldn't blame the clothes for that. She was angry and she just wanted the pain from the anger to stop. She hadn't been here long enough to be scarred by Dauntless. Why did she feel so out of control of herself? She thought about her aptitude test. The proctor was vague. Said she scored Dauntless, but what about scoring Erudite and Candor? What about Abnegation. Why was she all those things, but her test results were manually entered as Dauntless. She didn't realize she was standing and staring for so long because she felt a hand on her shoulder and it was Tris.
"What." Bella said, her tone simple.
"You've been staring at yourself for a while. Is something wrong? Bella, you can talk to me. You know that right?" Tris tried to coax her.
Bella shrugged Tris away. "I'm fine. Just, trying to be strong enough to survive Dauntless."
"I don't think you have to worry about that." Tris said. "You're number six on the board Bella. I'm still in the fucking red and-"
"Why did you come to Dauntless?" Bella turned and looked at her sister. "Why did you come here?"
Tris blinked, a little taken back. "Because I… because I didn't want to be Abnegation. I wanted change."
"If you want to be here when the round ends you need to be practicing more. Fighting to stay." Bella said, frustrated with everything around her it seemed.
"I am trying!"
"Try harder." Bella said and shook her head, running a hand through her hair. "Tris, I don't want to see you factionless. I'm scared that you won't make it and I don't want to lose you. I need my sister." She said, finally accepting that she did need others.
Tris's eyes softened a little. "I'll try harder then." She said with a nod. "I'll fight." She said and then she hugged her sister and Bella hugged her back.
Lukas's new tattoo was just simple tribal ink spiraling up his arm. It wasn't his first tattoo, in fact he had other tattoos, this was just the largest one. He was happy with it. The pain didn't bother him, and somehow it was relaxing for him. He needed to relax after the last couple days he had. He cut through the training area and found Edward punching on some bags with Peter. They were transfers. He remembered Edward being an Erudite transfer and Peter was from Candor previously. The two were clearly strong and Edward was fast it seemed. But their form was trash, so he walked over.
"Yo. Fix your stance." Lukas said as he came to a stop, crossing his arms.
Edward and Peter looked up at Lukas. "I know how to fight." Edward retorted.
"Didn't say you didn't, but you'll lose your footing in a real fight if you don't ground yourself." Lukas said. "You sparred Bella and lost remember."
"So did you." Peter said snarkily.
Lukas nodded. "I did lose. Drop the egos. That's what is going to cost you. Go into each spar like you could lose at any moment and you'll do better. Trust me."
Edward was quiet a moment, but he adjusted his stance and listened to Lukas's advice and he did feel more power as he struck the bag.
"Good." Lukas said and then looked at his watch. "Practice makes perfect." He said and then waved. "Training is early in the morning." He said and started to walk away.
"Wait." Peter said. "Can you… can you teach us more?"
Lukas paused and looked back at Edward and Peter. He nodded. "Sure. Tomorrow, after training." He said and then walked away, heading towards the sleeping quarters. He was stopped by Four before he made it all the way. "Oh, what's up?" He asked. He was more casual with Four than Eric because Four was the nicer leader.
Four crossed his arms. "Listen, we've had some complaints from some of the girl recruits. Someone… someone is being crude. Now I know we stick all of you guys in one room, but it's also to express respect for your comrades. At the end of the day, you all have to work together. Female or male. Now, have you seen any of this behavior?"
Lukas frowned. "I don't think so? I mean I only go back to the sleeping quarters to sleep. I spend my time training. Do you want me to keep an eye out?"
Four nodded. "Yeah. I told Eric about it and he seemed concerned about it, but Max says it builds strength. Either the girls can take it or not. Which, we're Dauntless. We're not cowards."
Lukas agreed. "Yeah, I'll keep an eye out, report it if I see it."
Four slapped Lukas on the shoulder. "Thanks man." He said and then he walked away. Lukas watched him walk away. He thought about Bella briefly. He had found her unconscious in the shower and she had cut open her head. He wondered if someone had tried to attack her or act inappropriately, but Bella hadn't said anything but then again, she lashed out at him immediately. He didn't know what to think, Bella was all over the place and he didn't know what to do with her at this point.
[Four Days Later]
Bella was actually excited for spar day. They sparred every other day, but the brackets were posted and she was sparring Lukas again today. She was confident that she would beat him. She got up on the sparring deck and Lukas joined her. He was wearing a black tank top and spandex shorts. His muscles were tight, strong looking.
Bella was wearing a sports bra and matching black spandex shorts and she was ready for Lukas.
Lukas's green-blue eyes looked at her, studying her. He smiled a little. "Don't forget our bet… stiff." He goaded her a little, it was playful, but he saw it register on her face and it made her smile a little. When Eric said go, Bella flew at him first, which wasn't like her. She was a guarded fighter, not an aggressive one. Lukas danced with her as she attacked him. He parried and blocked her hits, waiting for an opening. He was being patient with her, but she was increasingly getting aggressive, which was making her become careless. Her dancing martial arts was definitely a plus for her since she was so fluid with her movements, but he found his opening, and he came across with a good right hook and nailed her in the face and it knocked her out. She crumpled to the mat, dazed.
Lukas sighed and then he moved off the sparring deck and went to her side and then helped, pull her off the stage. He got her in a sitting position against a pillar, and crouched down to look at her, his hands framing her face as he studied her eyes. She was definitely dazed. "Bella." He called to her. Christina and Tris were there and so was Jasper. Eric made his way around the sparring deck to check on Bella.
"Al and Edward, get going on deck now." Eric barked out and the two shifted to get up on the sparring deck. "Still out?" Eric asked as he got close to Lukas.
Lukas nodded. "Yeah, she's pretty dazed. I'll take her to the infirmary." He said and then he stood, picking Bella up and putting her over his shoulder. Eric gave him a nod and watched Lukas carry Bella away. Eric was actually really shocked that Bella went down like that. He was used to her dominating her spars. She was really aggressive this spar and he felt like something was going on there, but he pushed those thoughts away and yelled at Al for being a pussy on the sparring deck.
Lukas got Bella laying in a bed in infirmary, when she finally cam too. She shot forward, startled. "Whoa. Easy." He said, his hands pushing her shoulders back to the bed.
Bella looked at Lukas. "What?"
"You took that hit hard. I expected you to block it honestly." Lukas said and then adjusted the bed so she could be sitting up better.
Bella looked around. "Where am I?"
"Infirmary. Denise isn't here, so I'm assuming she's at the bazaar." Lukas said and moved across the room and opened a fridge and pulled out an ice pack and brought it back to her. He pressed it to her jaw that was starting to bruise a little.
Bella took the ice pack and held it to her jaw and she looked at Lukas. "I didn't see the punch." She realized. "I didn't…"
"You were being aggressive." Lukas said and pulled a chair up and sat down.
Bella was quiet a moment. "You won the bet." She said and sighed.
Lukas smiled a little. "I did win, didn't I? You really thought you were going to win." He said and even chuckled a little. "Too bad, a nipple piercing could have been hot."
Bella laughed. It was crazy to her. She actually laughed and that was the first time since being raped that she has actually let herself laugh. "Okay," She smiled. "What is you want me to do?" She asked, looking at him.
Lukas thought about making her go get her nipple pierced, or get a crazy tattoo, but none of that was as appealing as the instant thought of just kissing her. "A kiss."
Bella raised a brow. "No pierced nipples?"
Lukas laughed this time. "No. Afraid not." He smiled. "Just a kiss Bella."
Bella bit her lip a little as she thought about it. "Fine. You won, so I don't have a choice. It's just a kiss." She said with a shrug.
Lukas leaned in close, he heard her breathing hitch a little and then his lips brushed hers. It was supposed to be a simple kiss, one that was just part of a bet, but her lips parted and his tongue met hers. It was a slow taste, like a lazy meshing of their tongues, teasing one another. His hand came up and cupped the side of her face that he didn't hit. He felt something inside him change. Kissing her was like heaven and Earth were colliding together. Like she was the only thing he would ever be able to think about. He thought he heard the ringing of a bell, but he knew that was all in his head. But the kiss went deeper and Bella pulled it in deeper, reeling him in like he was a fish caught on a hook, so helpless, caught in her net. But Lukas managed to bring the kiss to a close and it was like the kiss literally stole his breath away, because he was breathless after.
Bella wasn't sure what the kiss meant to her. It felt different. She had conflicting feelings. A bet was a bet and she wasn't going to be scared to accept a bet but kissing Lukas, made her feel things inside she wasn't sure she wanted to feel, especially after she was so sure he was the one that attacked her in the shower. She leaned away and looked away.
Lukas wanted to just kiss her all over again, but he refrained. He just gently brushed her hair out of her face. "Bella…."
"I'm good now. We should go back to training." Bella said and then got out of bed and moved away from Lukas, throwing the ice pack back in the freezer. She skirted around Lukas quicky before leaving him there, confused at how quickly she vacated the infirmary room.
