Chapter 2 – Family Dynamics

Three days. That's all it took. Three fucking days. I have a broken arm and Caius has a nice sized crack down his arm that will never fully heal. Deserved it too. Who does he think he is calling me a no skilled hood rat? Well now he'll think better of it. Stupid moron.

"Still sulking I see," Jasper sighed as he made his way in my room.

"Really Jasper, who does he think he is, the Queen of England?" I threw up my good arm in response.

"Well, he is a king sugar." He said as he sat down beside me.

"That's beside the point," I huffed.

"Why does he irritate you so?" Jasper replied pushing my hair behind my left ear. It was braided, but a few strands always find their way out.

"Cause he's ugly? Or because he's a child in a man's body? Or he's just a small little bug that just won't come off the bottom of my good boots." I said as I got up to walk around. My arm hurt like hell, Aro's physician fixed it well enough, and I should heal in a few days, but damn it hurt. The stupid sling he ordered me to wear wasn't helping, it was itchy. "Believe me I have a million of excuses."

Jasper chuckled and fixed my bed. "He's fond of you."

I turned around so fast my arm almost fell out of the sling. "Ouch, damn it," I rubbed it. I looked at Jasper, "it's so clear he's fond of me," I point to my arm.

"After. You didn't see his countenance after your fight. I believe you'll have an admirer."

"Whatever, he just needs to stay out of my way the rest of this trip," I grumble trying to open a book, but not having any luck. "Arghh!" I toss it. "Can we go somewhere? I need out of here."

"Hm, I can ask Aro if I can take you out to dinner?"

Just then the door opened. "I have a recommendation!" Jane said.

"Jane? What the hell? Have you been listening the whole time?" I asked.

"Would it make a difference how I answer that?" she smirked.

"Oh, I suppose not," I sighed as I sat down on the chair next to the balcony. It was really a nice evening. A slight breeze made it feel not too hot.

Jasper and Jane were talking about the restaurant as I stared outside. About half an hour went by when Jasper and I were walking out to the city. Escorted of course. Demetri following us as Jane led us to the restaurant she suggested. "It has the best wine," she says. Which at this point I will gladly try.

After the meal, Demetri and Jane took us on a boat ride. The boat was big enough to accommodate everyone having their own space, but still small enough to maneuver around easily. I was laying down on one of the chairs with my eyes closed when I heard someone approaching. By the smell, it was Jane. I smiled.

"You do know I've learned your scents already…. right?"

"Your powers are fascinating December." She said as she took the seat right next to mine. "How's your arm?"

"It still hurts, but it's tolerable. I haven't broken a bone since my first vampire fight." I chuckled and looked out at the city. The lights dancing off the water was a nice touch. "Seems like a lifetime ago."

"Has your master asked for you?" I could hear the slight nervousness in her voice.

"No. I don't know if he's actually giving me time to breathe, or he's avoiding me. If it's door number two, I have no idea why. So much as not added up since I met the Cullens."

"What does your human gut tell you?"

I looked at her and she smirked at me. I chuckled. "Well, my human gut is telling you thank you for the delicious meal. My huntress gut is telling me he's hiding something. And if I go looking, I might not like what I find out, or the information will hurt me in some way, or both. I'm scared of door number three."

"Too many doors in my opinion," she sighed.

"It's unnerving for sure." There was a moment of silence.

"I'm with you," I hear her whisper.

"Excuse me?" I looked at her.

"Whatever you decide, whatever you find, I'm with you. So are Demetri, Felix, and my brother."

"Jane, I could never ask that of you or the others. You don't even know me that well." I got up out of the chair and went to the edge to look at the water.

"You're not asking. I'm telling. Anyone who can best Master Caius and earn his respect, has ours. If you need our help, it's there when you want it. No questions asked."

Her voice had a finality to it, I knew not to say anything. I just nodded to her.

"Thank you," I smiled.

She nodded in turn, "now, to get you back to the castle before Master Aro has a fit and your brother has our heads." She took two steps and caught herself.

"What did you say?" I asked in a whisper. In second Jasper and Demetri were standing right there.

"Jane!" Demetri groaned.

"Oops," she covered her mouth.

"Family…. Brother…. Bonds…. Jane which vampire are you talking about?" I looked at her hard.

"I'll man the wheel," she said as she rushed upstairs.

"JANE!" I started after her, but my hand was caught.

"Sugar, calm down, you arm." Jasper said.

I turned on him, "Jasper, damn it to hell, didn't you hear what she just said?"

"She said Master Aro will have a fit if we do not return you on time," Demetri said matter-of-factly.

"Demetri…." I knew my face must have been a hell of a shade of red. I actually saw Demetri gulp.

"Well…. Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't see it earlier. The amount of time you guys spend fighting is ridiculous." He shrugged.

I took in a deep breath and let it out. I felt the fight go out of me and I collapsed onto the seat.

"Sugar, you alright?" Jasper knelt in front of me kissing my head.

"Damn vampires." I sighed. He chuckled into my hair.

So sorry for the delay my lovelies. I'm working on the other chapter so you all get two this week. See you!
