Chapter 4: Lunar Part 1
-Ace O'Clubs-
"Gimmie another beer, Charlie!" Sparrow AKA Dick Grayson sat at the first stool of the Ace O Clubs bar. He sat miserably at the counter drinking a beer in a frosted mug before slamming it down and demanding more.
Here he was the mighty Sparrow a Paragon of Apokolips, drowning his sorrows in alcohol amongst humans. How utterly disgraceful he felt in this very moment. He had painted New Metropolis in the blood of many people including the Justice League, but that meant nothing due to the fact he has still failed Darkseid. On Lashina's news that Garfield had escaped Granny Goodness, he flew to his cave hideout where he frantically searched for him. Both Garfield and the Paragon box were gone vanished without a trace to be found, leaving him with a big mess to clean up on his hands.
While Granny Goodness was not there to chew him out in person, she sent Dessad in her place who had warned Sparrow that his failure had disappointed the master deeply. Dessad had warned him that swift action would be taken immediately to remedy this situation but didn't elaborate to what this meant. This left Sparrow nervous to what his master me come up with. He was elated that Darkseid did not vaporize him with his Omega Beams but was angered to know that his opinion of him was slipping. Despite all he had done, this one little slip up dented his reputation so severely.
Until he could figure out where his targets were all he could do is sit silently at the booth, downing beverage after beverage until he felt better. It was early in the morning at the bar meaning Sparrow was the only one inside, giving him ample opportunity to enjoy some peace and quiet.
"Here ya go!" Charlie the bartender called out as he slid another beer to him. "Anything else I can help with you man, you seem kinda down?"
"Unless you can materialise a little green man and a Paragon Box, I doubt it."
The Bartender raised an eyebrow at Sparrow's strange comments. "Green man, paragon box, what the hell is that?"
Sparrow rolled his eyes intently. Of course this mere mortal couldn't understand the importance of a mission sanctioned to him by a God. "Forget it, Charlie!"
"Maybe you better slow down on the beers man, your not making sense!"
Sparrow was set to give a snarky remark to the bartender but didn't get the chance too as he heard the doors to the bar suddenly opened. The Paragon didn't think much of it at first but felt his skin tense up in anticipation almost as if to warn him. Dropping his drink to the ground Sparrow quickly turned around in a defensive positon with his arms shielding his face. On contact a dagger harmlessly bounced off his arm and clattered to the floor before him. Sparrow was set to attack the individual who dare strike him but he found himself feigning as he came face to face with the person. Or rather in this case persons.
Seven persons to be exact, all wearing motorcycle uniforms and helmets like him. The people laughed at Sparrow harshly before removing their helmets to reveal their identities to him. While he already knew who they were, he bit his lower lip in frustration realizing this is what Dessad meant in his explanation of 'swift action'.
Before him now were his brethren or rather the other Paragons that also serve Darkseid.
The first person unveiled was Cyborg, AKA Paragon Taurus.
The second person was Raven, AKA Paragon Black Siren .
The third person was Speedy, AKA Paragon Saber.
The fourth person was Hotspot, AKA Paragon Scorch.
The fifth person was Jynx, AKA Paragon Vipress.
The six person was Aqualad, AKA Paragon Hydro.
The last in the bunch was Wildebeest, Paragon Thrust.
"You!" Sparrow sneered as he gazed upon the others.
"Welcome to Ace' O Clubs, what can I get you?" Charlie the Bartender questioned.
Paragon Scorch was the first to notice Charlie and went up toward the bar counter. "Got any fireball Mate?"
"Fireball?" Charlie inquired. "I don't think I have any of those!"
"Too bad, cause I do!" Scorch smiled evilly before conjuring a small fireball which he threw at the bartenders head. Charlie was instantly caught off guard and unable to defend himself as the fireball went through his entire head. Brain matter splattered all over behind the counter as Charlies body fell onto the ground now deceased.
"What the hell did you do that for?" Sparrow asked worryingly. "We're trying to keep a low profile here!"
"Oh relax Sparrow nobodies going to notice some silly human has gone missing now will they?" Vipress questioned.
Now that Charlie was dead, the Paragon's had the run of the bar all to themselves. Saber, Hydro, & Vipress took to playing pool at the table in the corner while Thrust went toward the food in the bar's kitchen. Scorch and Taurus went behind the bar to fix himself some drinks while Black Siren took a seat next to Sparrow.
"What the hell are you all doing here?" Sparrow requested angrily.
"Dessad sent us!" Taurus explained. "Said your incompetence cost us Garfield and the Paragon Box!"
"To appease Darkseid, he sent us in as insurance!" Scorch added slyly.
"I don't need your fucking help!" He shot back.
"Your track record says otherwise!" Vipress snickered at the pool table before shooting a stripped ball in the corner pocket. "Which is why were here, to make sure the job gets done right!"
"And we figured we'd make this little bar home until our job is accomplished." Saber chirped
"I hate you all!"
"Awww is little Sparrow upset?" Taurus mocked.
"Fuck off Taurus!"
"You can't exactly refuse Darkseid's will Sparrow!" Scorch began. "But don't worry there is an upside!"
"What could that possibly be?"
"Dessad said you have seventy-two hours to bring Garfield and the box back to Apokolips, if you should fail then one of us gets the opportunity to shine!"
Sparrow couldn't believe what he was hearing. Was his master so impatient that he didn't believe he could do the job? Whatever the case may be now he had another problem. Like birds of prey the other Paragons now wanted to take him down a notch, to ensure that they would be forever in Darkseids favor. He couldn't let that happen. He couldn't let these lesser Paragons make a fool outta him."
After thinking over everything Sparrow got to his feet and swiftly walked out of the bar leaving the Paragons to snicker and laugh at his discomfort. He would show him why he's the best. He would show them why Darkseid picked him in the first place. He would find Garfield and make him pay for escaping in the first place, he would pay for causing him this intense humiliation.
-With Garfield-
"Piparoid, Piparoid, oh I'm the very best Piparoid!"
"Piparoid, Piparoid oh I'm the cutest little Piparoid!"
"My Claws are emerald, my tail is hot, now watch me now as I strut my walk!"
"Piparoid, Piparoid, oh I'm the very best Piparoid!"
"Piparoid, Piparoid, oh I'm the strongest Piparoid!"
Life of PI. A novel that tells the adventures of a young Indian boy stuck with a Bengal Tiger on a single boat in the middle of nowhere. For Garfield his life at this moment mirrored the famous novel almost exactly. He was stranded in the middle of nowhere while his only companion consisted of a tiger. The only difference between his life and the book was three reasons. One this tiger was a young cub who could carry a tune, two he was only the middle of the beach and three he was stark naked with his man goods swinging wildly in the air.
After getting a few introductions with the tiger cub known as Lunar the Piparoid, Garfield set off throughout the hot sandy beach area trying to piece together his day so far. His mind couldn't really focus however as Lunar kept singing his little homemade song as they walked. The little cub had alot of energy, as he blurted his tune loudly he shifted his tail back and forth while wildly dancing and kicking up the sand.
"Piparoid, Piparoid, oh I'm the very best Piparoid!"
"Piparoid, Piparoid oh I'm the cutest little Piparoid!"
"Garfield's my pal, he's a fox, now watch us now as we strut this walk!"
"Piparoid, Piparoid, oh I'm the very best Piparoid!"
"Piparoid, Piparoid, oh I'm the strongest Piparoid!"
It all didn't make sense to him. This little creature was the box that Sparrow had him attached too, the same box that Granny Goodness was planning on unlocking the power too. So many mysteries surrounded this creature but he didn't know where to start with asking him, for now all he could do is watch him sing his song like the young cub he was.
"Piparoid, Piparoid, oh im the very best Piparoid!"
"Piparoid, Piparoid oh I'm the -
Suddenly Lunar stopped dead in his tracks and turned to his attention to Garfield. The creatures expression went from playful to serious as he fixed him a look.
"What's wrong?" Garfield questioned urgently as he looked around in all directions. Was Sparrow near? Were their hidden dangers he could not see? Were there tourists its wanting to snap a shot of his green fanny? So many possible dangers looming on the horizons.
"I sense a disturbance friend!"
"What is it?"
"I'm hungry!" He stated flatly,
"What the hell?" Garfield sweatdropped. "That's your emergency!"
"Sorry but I haven't had any food since I left Apokolips on that asteroid!" He stated happily. "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole tank!"
"You eat tanks?"
"Just the small ones, I might get a tummy ache if I try to eat one of the big ones, though!" He responded. "We Piparoids like steel, cooper, zinc, iron, gold, aluminum, silver & brass!"
"What are you a tiger or a trash compactor?" He laughed.
"Both!" He teased. "But seriously pal where's the grub?"
"Hang on, though, you still haven't told me that message you promised to tell me!"
"I'll tell you later, food first, though!"
"Ok we'll get some food, but let me find something to wear first!"
"What's wrong with what you've got on friend?"
"That's the point I've got nothing on." He Sweatdropped again. "I'm butt naked dude!"
"I'm naked too, but you don't see me panicking!" Lunar began to strut his stuff again as he circled Garfield in a haughty manner.
"But your a robot tiger thingy!" Garfield shook his head at the tiger cub's callous attitude toward this tough situation. If he could just find some clothes to put on, maybe he could get to a phone and call Ryan before Sparrow came looking for him. He couldn't afford to be spotted on the beach out here, not just due to the nakedness but the fact that people might freak out when they saw Lunar. "Ok Lunar he's the deal lets-."
As Garfield raised his head to address the tiger cub, his jaw fell agape realizing that he was no longer sitting before him. Lunar was now gone from the area, leaving only fresh sets of prints that went forward from what he was.
"Oh crap, Lunar get back here!"
Garfield's brain was set to panic mode as he soon found himself jetting off further down the beach, following Lunar's fresh prints. This was not they way he planned to spend his day but Lunar's curious nature seemingly had other plans for him.
-Highfathers Palace-
-Medical Wing-
"What do you mean I can't see him?" At the medical wing at Highfathers Palace, more disharmony seemed to be going on. This time it was between two a nurse and a visitor who wanted information. The visitor in question was a short, skinny, Chinese teen with spiky black hair and brown eyes.
"I'm sorry sir but thats the policy, and with everything going on here I'm afraid I can't help you!" The Nurse responded while barley looking up from her magazine. "Unless your family I can't give out any specifics."
"But please MR Palmer didn't have any family!" He cried. "I know I'm not listed, but I'm his next a kin, I read on the news that he had been killed and-."
"I'm sorry sir but I can't help you!" She said quickly cutting him off once again.
The teen seemed like he would go away empty handed but once he thought it over, he decided against following the rules. He gave a hateful look to the nurse in charge before bursting his way past the front desk and toward the back. The nurse noticed the teens sudden change of attitude and immediately began calling for the security within the premises.
"Oh no!" He murmured to himself as he dashed through the corridors while the medical staff locked their eyes toward him. Before he knew it he could hear the footsteps of armed guards coming from behind him.
He ran faster, they ran faster, he took corners like a pro and they did the same. The teen may have been fast but even he couldn't escape his perusers. In a fit of desperation however, he thought of an ingenious idea. The moment that he took a nearby corner, he decided would be best to barge into one of the unknown rooms. With swiftness and precision he had executed this plan before the guards even knew he had decided to do this.
Once inside an unknown room he shut the door and pressed himself against a nearby wall. The teen held his breath deeply until he heard the guards roam past the door and then further along the hospital hallways until he could not hear them anymore.
"Looks like I'm safe here!"
"I wouldn't be so sure of that!" A female voice called out to him. The teen shirked realizing he wasn't in the room alone. Flipping the switch on the nearby light, he came face to face with Ryan Wilder sitting across from him. Apparently the room he entered was a small break room complete with a few vending machines, tv, sofa, lockers and a secondary door that lead to unknown parts.
"Who the heck are you."
"Chill out kid I'm not going to turn you in!" She spoke softly before going back to the cup of coffee she had placed on the table. "Mind answering why your running through my medical wing, though?"
"You a doctor?" He suddenly questioned.
"Just a nurse!" She commented. "Want some coffee or tea or something?"
"Thanks but I've got to find the person responsible for Ray Palmers remains." His expression darkened as he remembered the reason that he was there. "I heard of the news that he had been killed."
"How did you know the Atom?" Ryan inquired. As far as she knew Ray didn't have any family or much of a social life outside of League activities, so how did this boy know so much about him. "Are you his son?"
Before answering her question, the teen came closer to her while pulling out his wallet from his back pocket. As he opened up the thick confines of it, he revealed to her several photographs encased inside. Much to Ryan's surprise each photograph backed up his story fully, when ether it was next to inventions, using Star Lab computers, or just going for a ride in the car, the Ray and this stranger were together. "I was his apprentice at Star Labs!"
-With Sparrow-
Where's Wally?
A popular British childrens book that focuses on a single person trying to pin down a cartoon fellow with red and white stripes. This game was something that Sparrow hated playing during his childhood, and even more so he hated playing it now. Instead of playing Where's Wally, he was now playing the ever most unpopular game he had been playing since he came to earth. The game was called Where's Garfield and now it was starting to get on his final nerves.
The arrival of his Paragon frenemies had lit a substantial fire underneath Sparrow. These flames employed him to venture throughout New Metropolis in order to track down his target before the others got in on the action. It irked his very core that Dessad had sent them in without consulting him, but he soon realized once again that it was his master that called the shots. Losing Garfield and injuring Granny Goodness probably earned Darkseid's ire which was the reason he decided to send in the backup, but still he couldn't help but feel insulted. He was the most powerful of the Paragons and despite obliterating several members of the Justice League, he was still held to a standard where he could be easily considered 'weak'.
Weak was not a word he wanted to be associated with. This alerted him that he must find Garfield, no matter the costs and no matter who got in his way.
This unfortunately brought him to his next point. He may have been determined now more then ever, but sadly his newfound spunk gave him no results. After flying around the city for what seemed like forever, Sparrow reluctantly found himself hovering over Highfathers Tower.
With all results lost he had no choice but to keep eye on the enemy camp. While he may have had no luck finding Garfield, he knew that Ryan would have done anything to find her friend. Perhaps if he waited long enough, she or the League might get a lead that would allow him to capture Garfield first.
"My, my, don't you look frightening just leering there, you almost remind me of a Gargoyle!"
For some time Sparrow knew that he wasn't alone at the location where he stationed at. He felt somebodies presence watching him, but it wasn't until they said something that he knew for sure. Looking back to a shadowy corner of the building, he noticed that Black Siren was hugged up against the corner watching him. She stood with her arms folded as she watched him intently, a small smirk danced across the woman's face as she could instantly feel his emotions.
" Leave me be Siren, I've got a job to do!"
"As always your just all work and no play Sparrow!" She stated before stepping from the corner and setting herself next to him on the ledge. "You take yourself way to seriously, which is probably why the little green bean has alluded you!"
"What the hell do you want?" He questioned in a nasty tone.
"Relax Sparrow I come in peace, in fact I've come to barter!" She purred seductively with a bat of her eye lashes. Now normally Sparrow wouldn't have paid her feminine wiles no attention, but hearing the word barter made Sparrow realize that she ment business. While Siren may have been the wildcard among the Paragons she had her uses, especially if you provide substantial compensation in her favorite currency.
"If you know something tell me!" He demanded.
"Aern't you the least bit curious though?" She asked. "You're so fixated on finding Garfield, yet you never bothered to ask the real question."
"What question?"
"Why is master Darkseid so anxious to get his hands on the Paragon Box and Garfield, I mean i know he's impatient but even he's on such an escalated time schedule."
Sparrow's facial expression was one of curiosity as he stared down the woman, trying to mental decode what she knows. "What are you getting at?"
"My price is say diamonds, rubies, sapphires, ya know the usual!"
"Fine." He rolled his eyes. "I'll get your little trinkets, only after you tell me about Garfield and what you know about the master."
"For starters you'll find Garfield near the beachfront, sprouting a fabulous nude body with an impressive package I might add!" She said. "Also the reason the master is so impatient is because of the mutiny?"
"Mutiny?" Sparrow inquired as if almost startled by the question at hand. He couldn't even fathom anybody in the universe trying to overthrow Lord Darkseid.
"Yes it's unfortunate but while Master Darkseid fears no man, even he knows that this enemy has enough power to overthrow or possibly kill him!" She began. "That's why he wants Garfield and the Paragon Box so bad, the sooner he gets the Anti-Life the sooner he can end the threat!"
"Who in the hell dares challenge Darkseid?"
"Only the one who fathered Darkseid, the great Yuga Khan!"
-With Garfield-
Even without his super speed, Garfield himself was pretty damn fast. Perhaps it was the urgency he felt in trying to find Lunar or perhaps it was because the scorching sun was melting his bare ass, whatever the reason he hauled ass (Pardon the pun) throughout the beach grounds. His eyes stayed trained on the tiny set of tiger paw prints that seemed to go on forever. He wasn't exactly sure how Lunar got away from him so fast, but he knew he had to recover him before he got himself into more trouble.
"Eeek, someone do something!"
On cue the distressed cries of a female hit the changeling's ears like thunder. Up ahead Garfield's jaw dropped heavily as he could see what the woman was shrieking about.
True to what he ate, Lunar was currently sinking his teeth into a large pink dune buggy that sat on the beaches sand. The cub paid no attention to the group of beachgoers that were around him and continued to chop away at the vehicle which now started to resemble swiss cheese. As if that wasn't the only problem, Garfield couldn't help but scan the rest of the beach area. The lifeguards tower, anchors, metal detectors and boats had also been chomped on leaving deep teeth and claw marks upon them.
"Oh boy." Garfield sweatdropped upon seeing the devastation. Lunar wasn't kidding when he said he was hungry, he literally was devouring everything he could get his grubby metal paws on.
"Someone do something!" Another woman cried. "That weird cat is eating my buggy!"
"Call the police!" Another one suggested.
"No need for all that!" A second man called out as he climbed the dune buggy and attempted to grab Lunar. "Come here kitty come here!"
Lunar gave the man a quick glance before ignoring him and going back to chowing down on the metal.
"I said come here you little brat!" The man tried to be aggressive this time and found himself grabbing Lunar by the scruff of his neck. Lunar would not be fazed however and used a single tiny paw to swipe at the man before him. Making contact with the man's chest, Lunar left deep claw marks while also causing the man to be thrown back at least five feet.
"Im tryna to eat here do you mind?" Lunar asked.
"It talks?"
"It must be one of those aliens!"
"Someone kill it before it hurts anyone else!"
"Lunar run!" Seeing the starting formations of an angry mob, Garfield couldn't help but reach into his vocal cords in order to pull out that single command. Realization hit him however when all of the beachgoers turned around to follow the voice. The ending conclusion was a million set of eyes now fixated on Garfield's bare body.
"Dude, he's naked!" A surfer boy murmured.
"And he's hot too!" A blonde woman cooed in delight.
"Don't you have any decency young man, there are children here!" An older obese woman in a one piece with dripping rolls of fat scolded before covering the eyes of her adolescent daughter.
"Gar, you found me!" Lunar chirped in delight upon seeing his new friend. Jumping from the half eaten dune buggy, the tiger cub eagerly ran over to him jumping in his arms. . "Thank goodness your here, these weird people keep pestering me!"
"They know each other?" A woman questioned in curiosity.
"Look people let's just remain calm, I can explain everything!" Garfield cautiously tried to get the beachgoers to understand but the outraged looks on their faces clearly explained to him that they weren't in synch with him.
"Someone call the police!"
"Forget the police, let's put that weirdo under citizens arrest!"
"Call Area 51!"
"Um Gar?" Lunar started to say
"Yea Lunar?"
"RUN!" Lunar shouted at the top of his lungs to alert his friend. Garfield wasted no time in speeding away like a madman toward the opposite direction. The changeling ran full throttle trying to escape as the angry beachgoers were hot on his heels. As if this day couldn't get anymore hectic, the duo never imagined that they would be once again running for their lives.
-Highfathers Palace-
-Medical Wing-
-Break Room-
"So Ryan Choi is your name?" She asked as she took in the sights of the young man. Much to her surprise their quick little meeting had developed into something much more. While she agreed to help him with the Atom's remains, Ryan requested that he help her with a much more urgent project. Finding Garfield.
While she may have been busy with her nurse activities Ryan's mind never left her friends, she constantly worried for his safety and wondered whenever or not Sparrow had managed to catch him. New Metropolis own scientists were overwhelmed by the destruction caused by Sparrow, she thought perhaps maybe Ryan Choi could find something she had missed. With his expertise over in the field of technology, she handed him her tablet with a virtual layout of New Metropolis.
"And your name's Ryan too, small world isn't it?" He chuckled as casually typed on the large tablet that was in front of him. He tapped through security systems, cameras, or radio channels, anything he could use to find him.
"So how long did you know Ray?"
"Since my Junior year at Ivy University." He commented. "I didn't exactly play sports, I was afraid of heights and had asthma along with some allergies. Honestly, I was a bit of a mess until Ray came along, he helped further my career in physics and technology!"
"So you knew he was the Atom too."
"Besides you guys yes, he taught me the secrets of his belt and asked me to guard it should anything happen to -." He stopped himself mid sentence as he remembered the reason that he was there. While he may have been talking to Ryan in a normal manner, even he secretly knew he couldn't hold off the emotions forever. A single tear rolled down his left cheek as he throughout about the one man who was almost like a father to him.
Ryan saw his sudden change of mood, and it triggered her as well. Seeing him cry brought fourth a flood of memories of when Kate first went into her coma. While she wasn't dead like Ray, Ryan still could relate to what he was feeling. It was hard to lose your mentor, someone that you looked up to for most of your life. It was in this one moment that these strangers almost felt like they knew each other for a good moment, two souls still lost and trying to figure their way in the world.
"H-How did Ray die?" He suddenly questioned as he fix her a look of desperation.
"He died fighting that's what matters!" She replied. "When I find my friend, I promise you we will get justice for him just like the others. I can guarantee you Darkseid will not win, not now, not ever!"
Just as the two were sharing this moment, the tablet went crazy with alertness. Ryan Choi's concentration on his friend was interrupted and forced him to go back to work. "I think we got something?"
"What is it?"
"I managed to break into the camera system on the outskirts of New Metropolis near the waterfront and look what I found!" Holding the camera up to her face, Ryan Wilder came face to face with the image of Garfield & Lunar running away from the angry mob that was pursuing them.
"That's Gar!" She exclaimed.
"Whats that animal next to him, and where the hell are his clothes?"
"Not sure but I've got to get to him before Sparrow finds him!"
"What about our deal?"
"I haven't forgotten." Going to the nearby lockers, she retrieved a extra large duffle bag which she then slammed on the table before him. Ryan Choi watched closely as she unzipped the contents inside revealing several items of great importance, DR Fate's Helmet, Vixen's Totem, Barda's Battle Ax, Mister Miracles Cape and finally the Atom's subatomic belt.
"You had it on you the entire time?" He questioned in shock. It's not everyday you see artifacts being carried by some random nurse but there they were, all nestled and ready to be used by the next person.
"Highfather trusted me to put these in the vault but the task kinda slipped my mind!" She laughed to herself before handing Ryan Choi the Atom's Belt. "I think I'll put these away before I save Gar."
"You really are something else ya know that." Ryan Choi couldn't help but smile before giving the Afro Woman a quick hug of appreciation. Although he still didn't know her too well, it touched his heart that she was willing to listen to him when nobody else will.
"Don't be a stranger now!"
After bidding him farewell Ryan rapidly left the room and began rushing down the hallways toward the exit. Now that she had a lead on where Garfield might be she had too accomplish two tasks. One would be to drop these important trinkets off in the vault like Highfather ordered her too. Second she would need to secure some weaponry, knowing Sparrow he wasn't too far behind Gar so she had too make sure she came prepared.
Although she didn't have the resources to fully stop Sparrow, she was going to make sure he damn well felt some pain for killing the others.
-With Garfield & Lunar-
"Get back here you, weirdo's!" A loud scolding voice broke through the crowd of people that heavily perused Garfield and Lunar throughout New Metropolis. The duo had expected to shake the people somewhere along the city streets but no such chance came. To make matters worse the group had grown in size thanks to people seeing Garfield & Lunar cross their lawns. Before they knew it they had a small, sized army just looking to get their hands on them and do God knows what. Thankfully for Gar he kept the pace while Lunar hung for dear life in his arms.
"Boy are they persistent!" Lunar sweatdropped. "Are all you humans like that?"
"Us!" Gar responded with wide eyes. "Dude you ate like half the freaking beach!"
"I told you I was hungry!" He responded playfully.
"Forget your hunger, we gotta find a way to shake them or were both toast!"
Gar & Lunar looked around the atmosphere for something that would give them an edge over their cult following. They had traveled far from the beach and into the downtown streets of New Metropolis. Running pasts stores, clubs, theaters, and churches, Gar caught a wonderful idea as he started to go down a nearby street of food shops. "Quick in here!"
With a sudden burst of speed Gar & Lunar dodged into the corner ways of the restaurant known as 'Carmicheals Calzones'. The mob was on there trail however and entered the restaurant a few seconds after they seemingly vanished. Once inside the small restaurant, the mob quickly spread throughout the waiting tables, soda machines, and front counter while trying to hone in on their target.
"Where'd they go?" A woman inquired.
"I don't know, but they couldn't have gotten far." A man responded.
"Let's ask the owner; they might have seen them!"
One of the group members went up to the counter in order to ring the service bell. Upon command a short man in a chefs coat, hat, thick glasses with a mask on was before the crowd. This was presumably the owner of the restaurant, Carmicheal himself. "Sup dud- I mean how may I service you today?"
"Sorry to bother you sir but were chasing down this green pervert and his pet pussy, have you seen anything strange lately!"
"Oh ya,ya, I've seen this dashing young man and the kitty, they went out my back door and ran down the way!"
"Thank you sir, come on guys!" After getting the information they needed the crew of mobsters quickly disappeared, once again leaving the establishment a virtual ghost town.
"Thank Goodness!" Garfield sighed as he took off the mask, glasses and hat to reveal his face. Lunar followed in suit and jumped from out of his shirt and onto the counter to face him. "That was a close one!"
"Your just full of surprises aren't you?"
"I guess it's more luck then anything, but I have my moments!" He said smugly as he backed against an unknown item with a black top. "After all I was a teen titan!"
"Um Gar?"
"Now that I have some clothes and we've gotten rid of the mob let's get back to business!"
"B-but Gar!" Lunar tried to say.
"Now look Lunar you've had your fun, but ya gotta tell me what's this all about, where are you from, and how do you know so much about me?"
"Gar your leaning against the sto-!" Lunar tried to interject as he started to see smoke emit from behind Gar.
"Why the hell is it so hot here?" Gar questioned suspiciously as he noticed his forehead was perspiring greatly. His nostrils soon opened wide as the essence of smoke infiltrated them. He had been so busy talking he failed to notice that the entire backside of his chefs jacket was now burning wildly. "FIRE!"
Lunar shook his head in embarrassment as the hero began running wildly throughout the restaurant walls in an attempt to smother the blaze. The fire stayed close on his persons however which forced him to run back outside toward the mean streets of New Metropolis.
"FIRE, I'M ON FIRE!" He cried time he stopped, dropped and roll all over the grounds before him, not caring who was nearby to see him in this display of foolishness.
"Help is the way Gar, help is on the way!" Lunar shouted. The tiger cub came bolting from out of the restaurant with a bucket of water clenched deep into his jaws. When he got short stop near Garfield he swung the bucket like a javelin, spilling the contents out on him while defusing the blaze.
"What a hot flash, no wonder women hate those things." Garfield huffed loudly as he tried to catch his breath from the flames. Good news was the fire, was out, bad news, was his chefs jacket had been burned to cinders leaving him in the buff once again.
"Are you alright Gar?" Lunar questioned. "I tried to tell you, but i didn't listen!"
At first glance Gar wanted to holler at the small tiger cub, his senses, however, implored him to do the opposite. The Titan found himself breaking out into hysteric laughter while thinking about his situation. Having to disguise himself, getting an ass full of flames, all of this caused by this cute little tiger cub it was all to comical to ignore. As much trouble as Lunar brought, Gar couldn't ignore the fact that he was sorta adorable, almost like a mini version of himself like a child. Whatever the case was, fate had brought them together to figure things out. Maybe once he had his faculties together again, he could finally get his deep rooted questions answers.
"What's soo funny friend?"
"Never mind Dude." Garfield responded. "Look let's try just try to get home!"
"You're not going anywhere, Beastboy!"
Gar found his good nature being tested again as he soon heard that voice. The voice of his ex-teammate Robin or as they called him Sparrow. As he and Lunar searched the area, they found Sparrow standing on a rooftop of one of the buildings. Upon his targets noticing his presence, Sparrow quickly called forth his transformation powers which brought his armor upon him.
"Shouldn't you be back on Apokolips Sparrow, I heard they're serving toasted Granny in the cafeteria!" Garfield quipped smugly.
"Like always your not funny you little mutant!" Sparrow spat. He would have never admitted it but that joke on Granny, steamed him to all high hell. Granted Apocolyptians have a high pain tolerance, he couldn't help but cringe at the thought of Granny Goodness being thrown into the sea of flames. "Are you coming quietly or do I have to break a few bones?"
"Bite me!"
"And while your at it, take off that armor you imposter!" Lunar added nastily with a cat like hiss.
"Very well bone breaking it is!" Using his powers over solar energy Sparrow prepared himself to strike down the duo. He would not get the chance, however, as he was suddenly blasted by a foreign object and sent flying into a nearby building.
Garfield & Lunar watched in astoundment as the once powerful Sparrow struggle to get up from the attack that was just inflicted upon him. Nearby his body was the empty shell case of a discarded missile shell.
Before they could even guess what was going on as a dark car skidded it's way next to them. This wasn't just any car however, this car was the suited up high-tech piece of equipment that criminals in Gotham used to run from every night. The car that was driven by Batman and as of recent Batwoman, this car was the Batmobile.
As the car parked next to the duo, the passenger doors opened giving Garfield the ample opportunity to get out of harms way. Holding Lunar tight, the duo quickly flung themselves into the car and slammed the door. As soon as the door was closed fully, Garfield looked over to the drivers seat where he found his good friend Ryan waiting for him.
"Ryan!" He exclaimed happily. "You're alive!"
"Before you hug me here!" She playfully said before passing him a large duffle bag. Much to Garfield's delight, inside the bag was his old Doom Patrol uniform alongside a pair of his boxers.
"This looks delicious!" Lunar uttered the metal material while licking his lips in delight.
"As always your're a lifesaver!"
"Don't thank me just, yet we've got one more thing to do!"
As Garfield quickly shuffled himself into the fresh pair of clothing, Ryan started to rev the Batmobile's engine while locking her sights on Sparrow. The villain was trying to get up from his attacked state in order to confront them once more, but was slow due to just being hit by the missile.
"I hope Dick forgives me for this!" After switching the Batmobile into high gear, Ryan slammed her foot to the floor as far as it would go. The car sped off without hesitation, it's entire body heading right into Sparrow's direction.
As Sparrow finally got back to his feet, the Paragon became horrified as the entire body of the Batmobile came upon him. While he was strong enough to withstand most attacks, being caught off guard threw off his senses entierly to the point where he didn't know what was happening. He had no time to use his strength to deflect the vehicle and as a result was rammed by the car. Like any person when their hit by a car, Sparrow's body was flung like a ragdoll far away to another part of the road.
"That should hold him for now!"
"He's gonna follow us ya know?"
"Which is why were not going back to Highfathers Palace." She commented. "We need to lay low, keep you and that cat outta his grasp."
"I'm not a cat, I'm Lunar the Piparoid!"
"Piparoid?"
"Don't ask I still haven't figured that out yet!"
With Sparrow temporarily incapacitated, the now trio sped the Batmobile in a different direction and kept driving until they were out of Sparrows sight.
"Damn you!" Sparrow cursed both Garfield and Ryan as he untransformed back to his normal state. Once again he was humiliated by mere mortals, if Darkseid were to hear about this he would be most disappointed in him again.
"Tsk tsk tsk, I did you a favor and hear you go ruin it once again!"
While Sparrow withered around on the ground in pain, Black Siren once again stepped in from seemingly out of knowhere and hovered over him. The Vixen shook her head in disgust as she watched her teammate fight against the pain he had just received.
"You could have helped!" Sparrow bellowed.
"Yeah no, I wasn't going to help you especially when you still owe me jewelry for the tip I gave you!"
"You Bitch!"
"Oooh very poor choice of words!" Black Siren laughed coyly before she sent a single punch to Sparrows forehead knocking him out cold. If only Sparrow had just given her what she asked for, then she might have gave him a hand and saved him another embarrassing defeat. As she once again headed toward the shadows to vanish, she chuckled slightly to herself. The things she would tell Darkseid about how Sparrow let them out of his grasp again. For every failure that he achieved, it would surely make the game more interesting and make sure that her own true plans would finally come to fruition.
-20 Minutes Later-
"I don't believe it, were in the Batcave!"
If you have ever taken a trip to Disney World as a child, you may remember some of these symptoms that seem to slip their way into your psyche. Excitement, anxiousness, wonder or even extreme curiosity at going into the unknown. While Ryan did say that they weren't going back to Highfathers Palace, she never mentioned that they would be traveling to the Batcave.
Garfield assumed that the Batcave had been destroyed when the Parademons attacked Wayne Manor but when Ryan drove the entrance he found himself surprisingly mistaken. Before he could even fathom the place still being in tact, Ryan drove through the cave roads and parked the Batmobile not too far away from the Batcomputer and the trophies kept by Batman.
While Gar took in the sights the best, he could, Lunar couldn't help but take slow bites out of the Giant Copper Penny trophy that was nearby. While they were preoccupied Ryan went to the still functioning Batcomputer while typing a variety of commands upon them.
"Sooo." Garfield made the first attempt to break the ice having not said much since Ryan saved his hide. "In the five years I've known you, you never mentioned you knew how to drive the Batmobile."
Ryan looked back with a sly grin on her face. "Gotta keep some secrets for myself ya know."
"This is so good, I can't help myself!" Lunar purred in delight as he kept chomping and chewing away. Almost like a Pacman character, the single creature had managed to chew his way throughout the entire trophy.
"Lunar cut that out!" Garfield called out before running over to snatch Lunar away from his buffet. "You can't keep eating everything you see in sight!"
"Oh come on I didn't eat everything!"
"Tell that to the bite marks on the control panel of the Batmobile!" After her apparent work on the Batcomputer was done, Ryan found herself coming over to Lunar and picking him up by the scruff of his neck. While almost dangling him in the air she fixed him a look while analyzing every piece of him. "Look Lunar you're adorable I'll give you that, but don't ya think it's time you told us who you are and why your here?"
"Oh yeah that, I remember!" Shaking himself free from Ryan's grasp, Lunar backed away from the duo before shaking his tail wildly back in forth. Garfield & Ryan watched closley as metal orb attached to his tail suddenly dropped in front of them.
Once separated from the robotic feline the orb spun rapidly like a top before generating a large stream of green light which expanded throughout the Batcave.
"Lunar what's going on?"
"Don't worry he'll explain everything!"
"He?"
Lunar gestured to the green light that was still coming off from the small orb. As they watched it closer the light began to take form of an individual that both Garfield and Ryan recognized. The figure was tall, dark, brooding and dressed with the symbol of a Bat on his chest. Just like the Justice Leagues message earlier, this message was to be given by Batman.
"It's Batman. Gar whispered
"Bruce is that really you?" Ryan wondered.
"It's so good to see you again MR Batman!" Lunar chirped
"Garfield, Ryan if your both receiving this transmission it means that you found Lunar safe and sound." He started to say. "Both of you listen closely, we haven't much time!"
"Batman what's this all about?"
"This is about you and Lunar accepting your destinies Garfield!" He replied. "Alone you both are powerless but together you can become the hero that the galaxy needs, together you can become Paragon Moon Fang!"
"Paragon-."
"Moon Fang?"
