Chapter 11 – I died and went to Hunter Hell

I have literally walked on eggshells this whole damn month. With Bella's pregnancy and now waiting for her to wake up from the transformation, I was beside myself.

"Breathe darlin' breathe," I hear Jasper say beside me. I was sitting on the couch in the Cullen's living room.

"I'm trying damn it," I say. More to myself than him.

"Maybe you need to try and eat dear. I don't think you have the last couple of days." Esme said rubbing my back. I jumped up. She was startled.

I turned around, "I'm sorry Esme, but can you really blame me?" I asked pacing. "This whole situation has turned my life upside down, or up, hell I don't even know anymore. I still have my mission." I looked at Jasper and then to Carlisle. "You know this isn't right," then I turned to Demetri. "Dems, I'm the huntress, allowing a hybrid being born, I'm going against my own principles. Ones that were instilled in me for years. Yet in one night, to hell with them." I threw up my hands and collapsed back on the couch. Tears started coming down, "I'm so frustrated." I mumbled.

"December, none of us know what you're going through, we can all say this is as unique to you as it is to us, but you did the right thing. Renesmee is human." Carlisle said. As he said that Rose brought the little bundle of joy in the room.

I didn't look. I didn't want to look. I've been avoiding that baby since she was born. I didn't want the very thing that I should have killed, thrown in my face.

"She wants to see you," Rose whispered.

"I know that baby is special but how could you know what she wants, she's going on 3 days old. Her mom is in there almost done transferring. Hand her to her mom. She's more important." I turned further so I wouldn't see her at all.

"You may not know it December, but you're just as important to her as her mother. I'm actually a little jealous, she wants you." Rose continued.

"Love, I think you're going to have to face her sooner or later." Jasper whispered. "Just get it over with."

I sighed, "I swore to protect her, isn't that enough? Nothing in the contract about holding her." I crossed my arms.

"Guys, shh," came Edwards voice from the other room down the hall.

We listened and knew Bella's heart was about to stop.

"Ok, everyone places. Change of plans, December you go into the kitchen with Rose and Esme and protect Renesmee." Edward said calmly.

"What?!" I hissed. "Edward you…."

"You have your shield, please. I don't know if we can control Bella if she smells Renesmee." He pleaded.

"Damn it! Fine!" I hissed again and followed the two women to the kitchen. Alice and Demetri were in the doorway blocking it. Emmett and Carlisle were spread out in the living room while Edward was left in the room where Bella was.

Just then Rose forced Renesmee in my arms. "Rose what the hell!" I hissed.

"She's awake, put up your shield!" Rose growled back.

"Stupid vampires," I said as I put up my shield around the four of us.

Just then I made a mistake. I sneezed. Quietly of course, but it was a mistake all the same. I put my head down slightly to muffle it then opened my eyes. In the view of Renesmee. That damn baby girl. When I looked at her, I went to hunter's hell. I just stared at her. I didn't notice her put her hand on my cheek. I saw pictures in my head. Of everything that led up to her birth and after. Her thoughts and feelings were added.

"Well damn it to hell." I whispered.

"December? December!" came a voice.

I shook my head and looked up. Everyone was staring at me. I noticed Rose and Alice were smirking. I ignored them.

I looked at Jasper. "I've gone to hunter's hell."

He saw the look on my face and chuckled, the bastard. "Why is that darlin'?"

"This thing!" I said holding the baby up. She giggled and cooed at me.

Everyone laughed. "Here, I'll take her." Alice said holding her arms out.

"No, no, it's ok." I said curling Renesmee back in my arms. "Where's Bella and Edward?" I asked as Renesmee grabbed a chunk of my hair that had fallen out of my ponytail.

"Edward took her to feed, her throat was hurting." Carlisle said.

"Ah, ouch! Renesmee!" I hissed walking back to the living room and pulling my hair from her fist. "You little bugger."

Everyone laughed as they followed me. I went to the window to look out at the forest behind the house.

"What have you been giving her?" I asked Rose as Renesmee fell asleep. I swayed side to side. I didn't even realize I was doing it until I looked up at Jasper. "What?"

He smirked. "Nothing. You just look natural with the baby." Then he slightly frowned.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"We give her milk, here I'll take her, it's her feeding time anyway," Esme said as she held out her arms. I handed the baby to her, and she and Rose went into the kitchen. 'Do they give her blood too, I'm curious' I turned my attention back to Jasper.

I looked at him, "why the frown Major?"

"That," he said pointing to where Renesmee was. "That's something you're so natural with, it's something I cannot give you. Even if your hunter powers protects' you from vampire seed. It's something I will not mess with. I won't risk putting you through what Bella went through. Who knows what'll happen."

I sighed. "Oh Major, is that all?" I couldn't help but chuckled. But seeing how he was serious I coughed and took his hand. "Look Jasper, I've been around babies a lot. Unfortunately, it falls in my line of work where the moms die because of some loser vamp. I took the babies and kids to shelters. Sometimes I volunteered to help them at the shelters. I don't need a baby, or child. Nor do I want one. I'm satisfied. You are more than enough Major. Having a niece, well, icing on the cake I say. We can spoil her. She's a gift to Bella. This is not about me, it never was. So, promise me no more moping about this. You and I, we're good. With the Volturi, Peter, and Charlette, you all are my family." I kissed his cheek.

After a few seconds of looking at me, he smiled. "Well darlin' you made me feel a lot better," he took me in his arms and kissed me passionately. We were so lost in our world that we almost didn't hear the coughing. Or rather gagging.

"Oh shut up Dems." I said catching my breathe. But I was blushing.

He laughed. "Edward and Bella are back. Everyone thought it best you go talk to her first before she sees the baby. Since you have her scent on you already."

I took in a breath, "okay, let's do this. Everyone in position?" I heard a yes from everyone. I started walking to the door that leads outside to the front. "I'm telling you Jasper, she won't need it. It's her daughter for crying out loud."

Once I got outside and to the yard, I felt like I walked into a hard brick wall. "Oomph!"

"Ember! Oh Ember!" Bella cried. Well if she could cry.

"Bella breakable…. human…. Breakable," I muffled in her hair.

"Sorry! So sorry," she let go of me in a flash and backed up. A sheepish smile on her face. Jasper and Edward chuckled.

I smiled and looked at her up and down. "You look good Bella. I have to honestly say, vampirism suits you well." I did notice she was wearing a short blue dress. Alice had obviously chosen it, but I also noticed that there was a slight tear on one side where Bella's thigh was sticking out. I smirked.

She chuckled, "thank you." She looked at where I was looking. She chuckled again, "yeah, I needed more movement in this stupid thing."

I laughed. "If you tell anyone I said that I'll deny it all the way," I said shaking my finger at her.

"I promise I won't say anything, scouts honor!" she saluted. "So, how are you?"

"I'm good. How are you?" I returned.

"I'm good. I couldn't even imagine something like this." She said as she walked up to me and grabbed my hand and held it with such softness.

I looked at her confused.

"Thank you. From what Edward told me, you're to thank for everything." She smiled.

I looked at Edward, "what do you mean?"

"If not for you, we would have lost to the wolves. I don't know who would be here right now. We owe you a debt." Edward said nodding.

"Oh no, no no no. You don't owe me anything." I said looking back to Bella.

"Yes, we do, my family is intact, thanks to you. That's a debt that's owed." She hugged me again but softer this time. I smiled and hugged her back.

I noticed she took a big whiff and chuckled.

"She's all over you," she said as she pulled away smirking.

I brushed my clothes not looking at her, "yeah, well, the little bugger is needy, what can I say."

"I want to see her." Bella said looking at Edward.

"We just thought it better for you to smell Nessie on me first. Just a precaution." I said. Apparently, it was the wrong thing to say.

She turned back to me with a furious glare. "You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness monster!?" she huffed.

I was shocked she got touchy with that. "Well…. It just fit, Renesmee is a long name Bella, to say all the time I mean." I said as she stalked towards me. "Damn," I muttered.

Just as she was about to punch me, Jasper flitted in front of me, and he took the full force of the punch and got knocked back to a tree. It sounded like thunder. Good thing it looked like it was going to storm today.

It all happened in less than a second. "Jasper!" I yelled as I ran to get him.

"Oh my god, Jasper I'm sorry. Ember I'm sorry." Bella said frantically realizing her strength.

"Jasper," I said kneeling. He was already wiping the remnants of the tree off of him and standing up. I stood up with him. He looked at Bella, mad.

"I'm sorry Jasper. I…. I didn't realize." She said looking between me and him.

"You could have really hurt her Bella, with that punch." Jasper hissed. "You're a newborn. Your strength is greater, even if she is the huntress. It still would have hurt her."

"Yeah, I'm sorry." She said walking up to us. "I just didn't appreciate the nickname. Considering what it comes from."

"It's fine Bella," I say as I see that Jasper is not hurt. He is still mad though.

"I'll make it up to you both, I promise." Bella said sighing.

"It's something we all need to get used to." Edward said as he came up to stand beside Bella grabbing her hand.

We all nodded. The situation resolved and all forgiven. Although Jasper still gives looks at Bella. I just chuckled.

"Well, I think it's time to meet our daughter, don't you?" Edward asked looking at Bella who smiled and nodded.

Edward looked at me and I took Jasper's hand and ran back to the house. Bella and Edward following closely.
