Chapter 11: Not another Friday Morning
There's nothing quite like the essence of victory
, you know what I'm talking about. Getting an A on a difficult test, scoring the winning point in a sports game, achieving a raise at work hell it could even be something as simple as losing a couple pounds. Point being the essence of victory not only drives us to succeed but it also equips us with the willpower to keep going. To reach higher than any star, any galaxy, all so we can call ourselves the victor.
Ryan Choi was about to taste that essence that had denied him for so very long.
From within his private domain inside star labs the young scientist stayed hard at work. With Ray Palmer's bio belt in one hand and a tweaking tool in the other, he went across the wiring inside the belts' machinery. Glancing back and forth between his laptop and an open notebook, Ryan Choi clenched his teeth with a suspenseful look. He had to be ever so gentle when it came to modifying the bio belt, one wrong move and the consequences could be disastrous.
"It's been a long time coming but I think I got it!" The sides of his mouth formed to resemble a cheshire cat as the tweaking intensified.
So close.
"MR Choi!" The door to Ryan's lab was suddenly forced open as a loud obnoxious voice barked at him. The light from the open door alongside the yelling caught Ryan off guard causing him to go across the bio belt abruptly and soon the belt sparked across his hands.
"Damnit!" Ryan Choi cursed as the spark burned his hand slightly, while also causing him to drop the bio belt. The teen found himself scrambling for the device but to no avail, on contact with the floor the biobelt shattered into a million pieces. "No, no, no, no, no!"
"MR Choi!" The loud voice that was still screaming at him had come from Ryan's boss, the Director of Star Labs, Katherine Lane. MS Lane was an older woman in her late fifties, with gray hair styled in a pixie cut, brown eyes and an oversized nose. Now standing over Ryan, Ms Lane tapped her foot impatiently while fixing him a disappointed look.
"Do you understand what you've just done!" Ryan cried. "I was so close to unlocking a new level of the biobelt I was-."
"Need I remind you of who you are speaking to, Mr Choi?" She questioned with a sour look.
No he didn't need the reminder. He never could forget that this wicked bitch of the west was his boss. Only a person of such a horrid nature could ruin his work and still expect him to be respectful let alone pleasant. To such ends however he needed this job and did not have a choice but to lick her boots. Ryan chomped hard on his tongue as he forced himself to give his best professional smile. "How can I help you today MS Lane?"
"Where are the blueprints for the vincente project!"
"The what?"
"The vincente Project!" She repeated again. "We were entrusted to start the MR Chris Vincente project on electron force fields, do you have the blueprints for the machine you were supposed to draft up?"
Ryan Choi's memory suddenly clicked backwards as he seldomly remembered Ms Lane mentioning something like this to him a few months ago. If he were being honest with himself he didn't even know what day it was let alone what assignment he had been given. Ever since he had been kicked outta his apartment, he had no choice but to make his private lab his no home. Between short naps, showers in the locker room and rarely eating, Ryan Choi had been consumed toward advancing the bio belt any literally nothing else, he couldn't even remember the last time he went outside for some fresh air.
Needless to say, Ryan's silence spoke wonders to his boss. Once she knew for sure that he hadn't done any of the work she quickly left the lab with a scowl. Returning a few minutes later Ms Lane carried a single piece of paper in her hand and shoved into Ryan's hand.
"Notice of termination!" Ryan Choi exclaimed in panic as he quickly read the contents drafted by HR and signed by her. "You're firing me?"
"I've given you five projects within the last two months MR Choi and everytime I come in here it's always the same thing!" She bellowed. "You're always working on that damn bio belt of MR Palmers!"
"Because the Bio Belt is important to Star labs!" He cried. "With Ray's research I'm close to accessing subatomic dimensions that go beyond normal comprehension, a little more tweaking and who knows what we'll find!"
"None of that matters MR Choi, need I remind you that Star Labs is under contracts with Lex Corp, ARGUS and Wayne Enterprises."
"B-But!"
"No buts, MR Choi!" Ms Lane scolded. "You know we at Star Labs have an obligation to help our paying sponsors first. When I canceled MR Palmer's research I expected you to understand the position that we were in, now that you don't I'm afraid we can't afford to keep you on!"
"MS Lane please!" Although he could not stand to kowtow to this wicked woman, he was running out of options. He couldn't afford to lose this job, especially when he was so close to unlocking a new level of Ray's belt. In his desperation Ryan Choi found himself dropping to his knees and holding onto MS Lane's leg like a child trying to beg their parents for a toy. "Please MS Lane, give me another chance. I'll get all my projects done this time, please I need this job!"
"Should have thought about that before you disobeyed my orders!"
Ms Lane tried her best to be done with the matter and walk away but Ryan Choi was persistent, with every step she took he stay clinging to her leg pleading. "Please MS Lane, you can't fire me!"
"Don't be stupid MR Choi of course I can!" She replied while trying to fight the grip he had over her leg.
"Have a heart Katherine please!"
"MR Choi please don't embarrass yourself!"
"How can you be so heartless, do you have any regrets about what you're doing?"
"The only regret I have is hiring a certain boring Ivy League student who spent his entire life chasing Ray Palmer's coattails !" In one swift powermove MS Lane broke free from Ryan's grip and stood over him to stare him down in shame. "I want you out of that office by noon MR Choi, if not I'll have security throw you out!"
"But Ms Lane!"
His final plea would fall on deaf ears as MS Lane started to walk away from him and back toward her office. As Ryan stayed kneeling on the ground, his coworkers in the halls passed by him, while gossiping about the news that was quickly being spread. Some laughed at his situation, while others took pity on his poor soul. How sad to see such a brilliant mind reduced to this.
No mom, No Ray Palmer, No Job, No home, he had only the clothes in his possession and whatever materials he could scrounge up from his office. As crippling depression shot its way into his vulnerable soul, Ryan Choi kept his head down as he held back tears.
He contemplated going back to MS Lane to beg for his job back, but fought against the urge. He didn't want to lose his dignity any more than he already had, for now all he could do is head back to his laboratory and start packing everything that belonged to him.
-Flashback-
-Watch Tower-
Never in his wildest dreams did Beastboy think he would get annoyed with living in the watchtower. Ever since the League announced that they would be going to war with Darkseid, the watchtower had become the most impossible place to be at. Imagine one fifty million dollar space satellite floating through the cosmos with thousands of people who hated one another's guts.
The league had three rules while the Society and the Suicide Squad was on board.
No Fighting
No Sex
And most importantly no breaking rules one and two.
Beastboy could understand the whole no sex thing, ever since Flash and Giganta were caught thrashing around in the med bay, but he himself couldn't understand that dumb no fighting rule.
They couldn't be serious with that.
You had every superhero and their arch enemies on board, with them all confined to the watchtower there was bound to be some conflicts. Even now the watchtower felt like it was shrinking day by day, no privacy, no peace and with the lack of rooms some of the villains had to mix in with the heroes.
Such is the case of Beastboy. Instead of rooming with Robin & Cyborg he had the unfortunate displeasure of ending up in the same room with Mas, Menos, Gizmo, & Mammoth. He didn't mind Mas y Menos so much but being in the same room with the other two just left a bad taste in his mouth.
Mas y Menos never could stop clashing with Gizmo and Mammoth was always looking to start something. Needless to say it was driving him beyond bonkers, combine that and the limited time he spent with Raven he felt like exploding.
"I gotcha now ya gunkeater!" Gizmo yelled triumphantly. The wiz kid button mashed his controller harder then he ever did before as his gaming characters go-kart started to go faster then Mas.
"No me vencerás artilugio!" Mas shouted as he drove his character through some speed humps that made his go-kart go faster.
¡Qué estás haciendo hermano, lo estás perdiendo?" Menos cried out to his brother before he grabbed the remote. The twin superheroes began to fight violently over the controller, sending the gaming character all over the road.
"Come on Gizmo you can do it!" Mammoth encouraged excitedly as he jumped up and down, his massive weight shaking the entire cabin,
"Seriously dude?" Beastboy groaned as he covered his head with his pillow. Even when they weren't fighting they were loud and obnoxious to the point where he didn't care to talk. Nowadays as Beastboy awaited the war he mostly took long naps and stared at his window which overlooked the cosmos.
"Damnit Mammoth stop jumping!" Gizmo snarled angrily as his weight shook the room to a point where he lost his grip on the controller, rendering his go-kart useless.
""¡Ahora es nuestra oportunidad!" Mas Y Menos shouted in union before they each took a section of the controller. Despite each one trying to fully take the remote, the twins managed to steer their go-kart through the rest of the course and through the finish line. "Nosotros ganamos!"
"No fair, you two cheated!" Gizmo wept while pointing an accusatory finger at the duo.
"No!" Was the only English word the brothers knew as they once again muttered it to Gizmo.
"Why you cruddy little oompa loompas, you better give me a rematch or else!" He threatened and soon Mammoth took his side in a solid stance. Without warning the group of four boys began to shout at one another creating a hurricane of an argument.
With Garfield's peace seemingly stalled permanently, the changeling found himself turning into a fly to escape the madness. In his small form he easily bypassed the nonsensical fight between the quartet before slipping under the door and out onto the hall.
In his insect form the changeling flew through the busy hallways looking for some sort of solace. Everyway his bug eyes looked he saw hero after hero, villain after villain all either engaged in fighting/ arguments or training for the upcoming battle. Usually Beastboy could easily find himself being the life of the party but even he couldn't take it, he had to get away, he just wanted some alone time.
His wishes would soon be answered as a fly sized swirling portal of darkness blocked his direction. Not seeing it in his path, Beastboy flew straight into the portal and was transported to another location, the female locker room to be exact.
As he passed through the other side, Beastboy was forcibly reanimated into his human form. The changeling braced himself as he went directly crashing into one of the shower stalls. The titan saw stars as his entire body became locked in a position of epic uncomfortableness that only a yoga teacher could master.
"Sorry Gar, I didn't mean for you to crash like that!" Raven's voice suddenly spoke as she apologized to her boyfriend.
"No worries Rae!" Although he could only hear her speak to him, he was glad that it was Raven who did that to him and not somebody else. Pulling his body out of that position and upright once again, Gar looked around the empty darkened locker room looking for his beloved. Why did Raven teleport him here? Or an even better question was, where was she now?
"Uh Rae, where are ya girl?"
Instead of answering his question Raven opted to tease her boyfriend a little with the atmosphere they were in. From wherever she was the empath suddenly used her powers, to possess every shower handle she could in there. In one swift motion the showers were turned onto a light spritz and began to fill the entire locker room in a thick shower mist.
"Raven, what are you doing?" Beastboy sweatdropped. The darkness, the shower mist, was she going to prank him and pretend to be that slasher from psycho?
"Beastboy." She called out again, her voice was dripping in sultriness.
"Um Rae, where are ya babe?"
"Right here!" As the mist started to fully cloud his vision, Raven stepped out from seemingly nowhere. Beastboy was set to greet Raven with the usual joke or something to lighten the mode, when he saw her however his mouth dropped to the floor while his nose dripped slightly with blood.
As her cloak and the rest of her titans uniform dropped to the floor behind her, Raven stepped closely to Beastboy, bare naked as the day she was born. Although her cheeks were highlighted in scarlet the sorceress stepped forward almost to offer herself as a living sacrifice to Beastboy.
"W-W-W-What are you d-d-doing?" He stammered. Trying to keep his optics focused on Raven's face was almost impossible as he immediately gazed upon her chest and lower regions.
"What does it look like to you?" She sarcastically asked. "I missed you and right now I need you!"
That was all Beastboy needed to hear. His DNA triggered on like a lightswitch as his animal instincts suddenly took over. Call it the frustration of rooming with others or just the stress of the upcoming war, he just couldn't take it anymore. Pulling Raven closer into the shower stall, he attacked the nape of her neck, sucking it slowly before entangling his lips with hers.
It wasn't just Beastboy's animal instincts taking over but Raven's mindset as well. Lust and Love were constantly assaulting Raven's mindset as she tugged at Beastboy's took some during the kissing but the empath soon managed to free her boyfriend of his doom patrol uniform and make him bare as well. The rush of wetness flooded Raven's sex while Beastboy found himself getting stiffined. The two parted for a solitary moment to gaze into each other's eyes lovingly.
"I knew my manliness couldn't keep you away for long!" He grinned.
"You're such a dork!" She laughed a bit.
"I'm your dork though!" He exclaimed before his brain clicked in a realization.. "Wait, what if someone comes in here?"
"Not likely!" She gave a mischievous smile. "It took some doing but I got Courtney & Starfire to guard the locker room door for a while!"
"I love your sneakiness Rae!"
"I love you too, now prove it to me!"
The No Sex rule was thrown away into nothingness as Beastboy pinned Raven against the wall before they started to make out again. In a watchtower full of so much animosity and strife, Beastboy and Raven were glad they could be together. As they started their love making session in the steam, all else seemed to melt away the only thing mattering was that they were together.
-End of Flashback-
-Present-
-Wayne Manor-
"Raven, Raven!"The blankets rustled for Garfield as he kept shifting from side to side in an uncomfortable manner. Sweat formed on his green skin as his brain redrew the rest of that scenario that he experienced with Raven. She was soo breathtaking, soo beautiful, she was his girlfriend, his everything. He wanted to be with her so bad, he couldn't help himself. As his heart slammed against his chest cavity, Garfield let out a few more satisfying moans before he suddenly jolted awake.
The light of the morning star invaded Garfield's room as reality took its toll upon him. Another dream had overtaken his sleep cycle, once again preventing him from getting rest. Staring throughout the spacious room that he chose, Garfield tried to gather his thoughts about missing Raven. As much as he hated to admit it he was glad Raven was brainwashed into Black Siren, not because he wanted her to be a supervillain but because at least she was alive. Enemy or not, just knowing that she was still in there made him more determined than ever to figure out a way to save her. Garfield didn't care who he had to face as Moon Fang, he would get her back no matter how long it took him. Once he was able to hold her in his arms, he would not be plagued by dreams, he would actually be able to be happy again.
"Well better get up!" Garfield muttered to himself as he threw back the blanket away from his body. The ex titan became alarmed however when his coverings would not depart from him, instead they seemed to be stuck to his body.
After applying a bit of force to the blanket it parted from him, but not before advising him of the reason it was stuck to him in the first place. He didn't notice it at first due to just waking up, but soon the strong smell flared into his nostrils. Garfield sweatdropped nervously as he soon noticed his shorts, the blankets and the entire mattress were covered in his love juice.
"Not again!" He mentally cursed himself as he tried to scramble away from the mess he made. There is nothing more embarrassing than waking up smothered in your own juices, and for Gar this had been the fourth time this month.
-Elsewhere in New Metropolis-
"Take a good look Thrust, that's the goal right there!" Just like the brightness of the morning star Paragon Taurus kept an elevated attitude as he sat on a solitary park bench. With his partner Paragon Thrust sitting next to him the duo were enjoying some bottles of beer they swiped from the bar before coming here to stakeout the location. Trying not to alert any of the passing citizens, the duo kept their motorcycle helmets on to avoid tipping off anyone to their ex titan identities.
"What Plan?" Paragon Thrust suddenly asked his comrade while struggling to speak.
Due to Wildebeest being mute, Dessad had implanted vocal bionics in the hero to allow him to try and communicate. The project was an utter failure as he could only mutter two phrases or a single word at a time. To such ends however Dessad tried not to worry about this. Despite his position as a paragon, Thrust was mostly used for his brute strength and only needed to use the words to transform into his armor.
"It's gonna be a busy day, Thrust ol buddy!" He commented before generously taking a sip of his beer. "Thanks to Cyborg's knowledge of technology I've got the perfect plan to show up Sparrow!"
"Moon Fang?" He inquired
"Don't worry about that loser, I can guarantee you we got this!"
"When start?"
"Patience good buddy, as soon as the building is clear we'll get a move on!"
As they relaxed on the park bench the duo kept close watch on the LexCorp building, once home to Superman's greatest foe. With Lex out of the way for good, this building with all it;s technological wonders would serve as the greatest tool for Taurus's victory against the Justice League.
