Chapter 15 – End of the Line

Even though Alice and Demetri came across this other 'hybrid', they were just as nervous as Jasper and me.

"You sure this is a good idea?" Jasper said standing behind me as I was sitting on the couch.

"What choice do we have?" Demetri said standing next to Alice. Who was sitting next to me. "This is the best thing to happen really. Since there is another hybrid, one who resembles us, the Volturi will HAVE to listen."

"They're here," Alice said standing up and heading to the door to open it.

Jasper tensed getting closer to me, the overprotective butt. I turned and gave him a smile to calm him down.

"Welcome, please come in." Alice said letting the two vampires in.

"Two?" I couldn't help saying.

The two vampires looked at me, not exactly in alarm, but curiosity. Alice closed the door and made her way past them towards us. I stood up. Jasper came around to my side.

"Nahuel, Huilen, you already know my mate Demetri," she gestured toward Dems and he nodded his head. "This is Jasper and his mate December." Jasper nodded his head and I did as well. "Jasper, December this is Nahuel, the other hybrid and his Aunt Huilen."

"The huntress. It's an honor," Nahuel said bowing his head. I didn't know quite what not make of it. He saw my confusion and smirked. "As you have legends about hybrids, we have legends of the hunter. We know of your existence."

I walked towards him but stopped as I sensed their tension. "I mean you know harm, but I just don't understand how you know of my existence, but I know nothing of yours. I know hybrids are rare but still," I slumped my shoulders.

"We are rare, but you should've heard something, I'm surprised you have not. But alas, I understand there is another, someone we must help?" Nahuel said.

"We have a situation with the Volturi, did Alice and Demetri fill you in?" Jasper said.

"We gave them the basics. But we should…" Alice stopped talking as she stared into space.

"What's wrong with her?" Huilen asked.

"Vision," I said packing my bag. Jasper and I had our stuff ready as I had a feeling once everyone was back, we'd need to go.

"We need to go….now." Was all she said, and we were off.

We were on the plane heading back to Washington. It was New Years Eve. My birthday. Another birthday with death on the menu.

I must have been thinking too much because I suddenly felt a calm wave wash over me. I looked up to see Jasper staring at me intently.

"Was I freaking out," I chuckled.

"Maybe a bit darlin'," he smiled at me.

"What's the plan?" I asked looking at everyone.

"From what I saw, we'll get there just as they're meeting in the field. I can't see beyond that, no matter how I hard I try." Alice said obviously frustrated.

"This could all be avoided if we were able to contact them. But it's been like something has blocked contact." I said confused.

"It is odd they haven't tried either," Demetri concurred. "It's not like them to not contact either one of us. I mean, you're sister to one of the kings, that alone is troublesome."

"We won't stop. We've got family to save on both sides." Alice said.

We landed and made our way to get our bags.

Thankfully since it was snowing, there was no sun. Alice gave Huilen, Demetri and Jasper some contacts until we made it out of the airport.

We got our car that was parked in long-term parking and made our way out of the city.

"What's it like? I mean being a hybrid?" I asked Nahuel.

"I'm like a vampire, only a little more human. I have the speed, strength, and my skin is more human like but has the hardness of a vampire. Only I do have human looks. My vision is probably akin to yours."

"But what about food?" I couldn't help but wonder this.

He smirked, "I can live off of both, human food and blood."

"That's…. really interesting. How can your body accommodate both?" This was beyond my thinking capability. Just like how Carlisle and his family live off animal blood.

"Ok, pull over here," I hear Alice tell Dems as he pulls the car onto a dirt road. "We need to hide the car and run the rest of the way. She turned around to look at me. "Are you ready?"

I just nodded my head. I started feeling nauseated but didn't show it.

"You need to save your strength in case something goes down," Jasper told me turning around so his back was facing me," hop on."

"That's nice of you, hope it doesn't come to that though," I mumble as I hop onto his back. And we were off. Alice said we were about ten minutes away.

The closer we got, the more anxious and nervous I was. I've never felt this way. Especially when it came to a fight. I thrived on a fight. But now I just felt sick. But I never had to fight family. These bonds I share with vampires, have confused me for life. I started thinking. If it came to a fight, I might die. I'll never see my family again. Jasper and I won't get to live as husband and wife for many years. I can't become a vampire. Half of me repels the idea of even becoming one, even though in the back of my mind, a voice said I wanted to because of Jasper.

"We're here." I hear Alice say. We had stopped just behind some trees. Just beyond was where I can make out voices.

"I can see clearly, a child. Do not take us as fools." Said Caius.

"We're not. See the color of her cheeks. Do you not hear a heartbeat?" asked Edward. "She's not an immortal child. Bella carried her and gave birth to her before she turned."

"Lies!" shouted Caius.

"I will of course gather all facts. Brother stand down. I would very much like to meet her." Said Aro.

I had put up my shield around us, to not make a sound. I pulled back a branch to see what was going on.

"Do we go now?" asked Dems.

"Not yet, we need to see this play out first," said Alice. She looked around and we nodded to her.

We watched as Edward and Bella walked with Renesmee. Obviously tense. They stopped two feet in and turned and looked at Emmett. He looked at Rose then went with them. Looked like Jacob flanked the other side.

"They got the wolves for backup it seems," mumbled Jasper.

"Smart, are they actual werewolves? Caius hates them." Dems said.

"No, they're shapeshifters. From the Quileute tribe." I said watching.

"Shhh," Alice said.

"HAHAHAHAAHAH, I can hear her little heart." Aro said excitedly.

'Hello Aro," said little Renesmee as she lifted her hand and touched Aro's face.

In a flash of a few seconds, she showed him everything from her birth to now. His face showed different emotions.

"That's, interesting," he mumbled as Bella pulled Renesmee back behind her and Edward.

"So, as you can see, we didn't break any laws." Edward said.

I saw Bella glance around. Maybe looking for us?

"Yes, but," Aro said looking around at the others, "Carlisle, you brought so many to fight against us. This I must view as retaliation."

"They're not here to fight," said Carlisle, "but to witness Renesmee's growth. You can touch any of them to view their thoughts of her."

I looked at Jasper as he whispered, "the Romanian coven, which I know Aro won't be happy with. The Irish coven, Amazon coven, Alistair, I wonder how Carlisle got him. The Denali coven. Garrett."

"Brother how can we guarantee that she is not a threat. Children can't hide our identities." Caius said.

I turned my attention back to Caius and Aro.

"Indeed," Aro responded putting his hand to his chin.

"If we have proof, that she will not be a threat, may we leave in peace?" asked Edward.

"What proof Cullen," Caius sneered.

"Now we go." Alice said as she made her way out. Dems was next to her. Nahuel and Huilen followed and Jasper and I behind.

I felt everyone's eyes on us as we made our way to Aro and the others.

"Alice!" he said but we saw his face grow into confusion while looking at the rest of us. We stopped near Edward and Bella as Alice and Demetri continued to make their way to Aro.

"We have proof," she said as she stood in front of Aro and put her hand out to him. Aro continued to look confused, especially towards Demetri.

"Demetri," said Felix as we looked at the others present. They all looked confused as well.

"I don't know why you're surprised friend, a phone call would've been nice," Demetri sneered back at Felix. Felix on his part looked shocked.

It was like a fog had been lifted from everyone. The scene of vampires shaking their heads frantically would've been hysterical if not for the situation.

"I…. I don't understand," said Caius as he looked at me. "December? I…"

"You remember her then?" asked Jasper standing in front me of protectively.

"It's, it's I don't know. Like a veil or fog has been lifted off of us, the thickness is horrendous!" Caius answered, rubbing his temples.

"Brothers we have magic at work here," Marcus said with a troubled look on his face.

"Everyone, look around, see if you see anything," Aro said as their guard bursts around them.

"December, I do apologize." Aro said.

I turned to Demetri, "so something was interfering between us and them."

The guard was back, "nothing to report sir, all clear," Jane said looking at me with sadness in her red eyes. She mouthed, 'sorry' to me as did Alec. I just smiled and nodded at them.

"Now, the proof Aro. Then we can discuss the rest of this situation," Alice said holding out her hand again.

"Yes, yes, of course," Aro said taking Alice's hand.

Within a few seconds he looked to Nahuel and Huilen. Nodding. "I see."

"And what of your diet?" he asked Nahuel.

"Blood, human food. I can survive on either." Nahuel responded.

"Ah, these creatures are much like us brother." Marcus said to Aro.

"Yes. So, it seems," Aro said as he put his fingers to his chin in thought.

"How old are you?" asked Bella as we turned to look at her.

"150 years old." He said as we noticed Bella sigh in relief.

"When did you stop aging?" asked Caius.

"Around 7 years old. My aunt Huilen looked after me and I made her a vampire." Nahuel said.

"Interesting." Marcus said as I turned back to Bella seeing her and Edward hug Renesmee. I smiled seeing that she'll be around for a while after all. But then sadness hit me too, I won't see her grow up.

"Well, no laws are broken here after all," said Aro, "but we will monitor what happens after." He finished looking at Carlisle who nodded in return.

"But what about the werewolves?" Caius said. I couldn't take it anymore. I rushed at him with a bone crushing hug. I knew I was going to have major bruising, but I didn't care.

"Oh, leave the shapeshifters alone you old man." I said in his ear. I heard a chuckle and felt his arms around me.

He chuckled, "Si, la mia ragazza dai capelli rossi." (my little red-headed girl)

After we pulled apart, I hugged Aro and Marcus as well. I felt another bone crushing hug from behind and it turned out to be Jane.

"I missed you, you witch. Before the whole fog thing," she said gesturing with her hand.

"I missed all of you." I smiled. As we were talking, I heard a familiar voice. I tuned my senses to it.

"Now where are we going after this," said the male voice.

'I know that voice!' I thought as I turned to find it. I did.

"YOU!" I yelled, pointing my finger. Everyone stopped and looked at me then to who I was pointing to.

He smiled, "easy there love." The male replied.

"You fucking bastard!" I yelled as I ran to him as fast as I could. I nearly got to him in a second when I felt electricity go through me. It freaking hurt!

I looked and it was a blonde vampire. I threw out my shield and she propelled back. I went at him again, this time I felt someone holding me back. "Ember, easy," Jasper said, "it's only Garrett."

"Garrett?! So, the fucking asshole has a name!" I was still struggling to get out of Jasper's grasp.

"Garrett what did you do to make the huntress pissed at you man?" Emmett asked, trying not to laugh.

"Yeah really," came the blonde vampire's voice as she came back still brushing snow off of herself. She just gave me a dirty look.

"The one that got away," I seethed. Finally calming down, but Jasper still held a firm grip of me from behind.

"Oh, that was three years ago love. And you found your mate," gesturing to Jasper, "and I found mine," he said looking down at the blonde. "All's forgiven…. Right?" he winked.

"I'm going to pop that bloody eye out and roast it like a marshmallow," I said trying to get at him again.

"Ok, what the hell is going on?" Jane asked as the others finally came to watch the show.

"This bloody vampire," I said calming down again pointing my finger at Garrett, "tried to seduce me and make me a vampire. Three years ago. Until he found out what, or rather who, I was and I tried to kill him, but he got away. The ONE vampire I missed!" I growled. Then there was another growl, this time Jasper tried to leap at him only to have Carlisle and Emmett hold him back.

"Jasper, calm down, she's not hurt, she's here. Go to her." Emmett said in his ear. Pushing him gently back to my side as we held each other. That didn't stop me and Jasper from glaring at Garrett.

"Oh, come on," Garrett said, "No harm done to anyone right? Three years ago. A long time to let it go," he said whistling it away.

"December, please," came Edward's voice. I turned to glare at him. "He's Kate's mate. Kate is our family."

"Like I give a rat's ass," I seethed looking back at Garrett.

"You give a rat's ass for Bella and Renesmee, they're part of that family," he continued.

With that I looked at Bella and Renesmee. Bella had a smirk on her face and shrugged. Renesmee just shook her head.

"Pfft, fine. But he steps one vampire toe out of line, he's ash, I don't care who his mate is." I said turning around to not face him no more.

"Then I'll have your head huntress," Kate said hissing back.

"Then we'll have you and your coven's for a collection," Caius snapped back. This made Kate shrink away slightly.

"December, the huntress, is under our protection as she is my bond sister and niece to my brothers. Let this be known to you all." Caius said looking at the other covens. Although the Russians seemed to have disappeared.

"Well, let this be a peaceful farewell." Carlisle said as he started gathering his coven. "We will meet soon Aro."

"Of course, and Isabella, please send letters to let us know how Renesmee is doing. And don't be shy if you wish to visit us or if she needs anything." Aro bowed slightly.

"That's awfully generous Aro," Carlisle said as he was not the only one confused by that statement.

"Well, it's only because December is so fond of her and Isabella. If she views them as important, then we do as well." He said looking at Bella. She only nodded in response.

"Well," Aro clapped his hands together, "shall we?"

And then an explosion.

I don't know who long my eyes were closed or how long my ears were ringing, but eventually I coughed and sat up to complete chaos. I was behind some brush as noise was going on all around me. I tried to move some branches, but a hand shot out over mine. I looked and saw Jasper covering his mouth with a finger signaling me to remain quiet.

I threw out my shield over us.

"What the hell is going on?" I asked rubbing my eyes and ears. My hearing was returning slowly.

"We got ambushed. Some groups of people out in mass trying to kill everyone." He said looking at the scene before him. I got up to look where he was looking and it was a mess. Every one of the vampires was fighting a group of people. If I was human, it would look like wind against wind.

I saw Carter and Nixon having a go at Caius and Marcus. Those two nearly did Charlette and Jane in. Seemed like a lifetime ago, out in the forest.

"Wait! Where's Renesmee?" I asked frantically looking around.

"She's with Bella and Edward where the wolves are," he said pointing to the right of us. "We got hit and my first instinct was to get you out. It hit near you and you got burnt," he said looking down at my right

arm.

It looked pretty bad, blistering in certain areas, especially near my shoulder.

"No time to worry about that right now. We need to help everyone. I can't just sit here," I seethed looking out at the war. That's honestly what it looked like.

"They're your people. Are you sure you want to fight them?" he asked.

"Jasper, they up and left me. Those vampires are my family. Honestly," I sighed looking up at the sky, "I was no longer part of the guild when I first kissed you."

"Ember," he whispered.

I looked right at him. "I have to make a choice." I looked at my tattoo. The Lotus was glimmering but did not burn. "All those vampires out there deserve to live another day. If anyone has proof or the right to say that, it's me." I said showing him my tattoo. He nodded.

"Now there's a party to be had here, whooooo!" came a voice shouting as they made their way through the fighting.

Jasper sighed, "Damn Peter. Always trying to make an entrance."

I looked and saw Peter and Charlette make their way towards Bella, Edward and Renesmee.

"We're going to have to split up," I said taking out my knife from my boots.

"No," Jasper said simply.

"Jasper, we must. One of us with the kings, the other with Renesmee. You know that's how it's going to go down."

He sighed as he moved his hand over his hair moving it back. "Ember," he said. But I put my hand on the side of his face and looked into his eyes. "This is bigger than you, or me. And you know it." I kissed him. He pulled me closer to him and deepened the kiss. I didn't like it. It felt final. We broke apart and nodded to each other. Then we struck.

I didn't think, I just felt my way across slicing and cutting. Maneuvering with precision. I was amazed at how I felt. Even on missions I never felt this way. Easy. For family.

"December, why?" a voice asked as I made my way towards them. It was one of the girls from the guild.

I stood before her ready to fight. "You mess with my family, your days end here." I said flatly spinning my knife to my front pointing it at her. "You and the others no longer hold anything over me."

"Says the VAMPIRE HUNTRESS," came another voice from behind her. Carter and Nixon both approached from behind the girl.

I quickly side-glanced and saw the kings were still alright.

"Traitor," was all Carter said. Nixon readied his gun.

"Traitor to your guild maybe. Traitor to myself, hardly." I looked at them with nothing but anger as I recalled that day in the forest.

"Now, we'll settle this," Nixon said as he aimed. Jasper appeared next to me as did Bella, Edward, and the kings. I quickly assessed around us and there were only a few people from the guild left, but being gathered by Garrett and the others.

"Not on our watch human," said Caius.

"How you got past our guards is unnerving, but, you will lose nevertheless," Aro said throwing his cape back. Ever the actor.

I thew my shield over everyone. "You won't win," I said seething, readying my stance.

It was quick.

They fired. The group went for them as the bullets ricocheted off my shield. Their necks were snapped, and they fell to the ground.

"Stupid humans. Always think they'll win against us? Haven't they learned? I don't care what training they've had." Caius said wiping his hands.

There was a loud roar.

Another bomb and as the smoke cleared, two things happened. One was I had a searing pain in my side and when I looked down, my own knife had been impaled into me, blood rushing out. And when I looked ahead of me, Jasper was lying unconscious while a figure crouched over him. Bella, Edward and the others were on the other side looking as well.

"Bring the other two as well. December, I'm really disappointed in you." And he left.

"CROWLEY!" I screamed as loud as I could. I felt a whoosh and Bella and Caius were beside me as I fell to the ground.

"Carlisle!" Bella yelled as I saw Carlisle rush to my side. I was breathing hard. This hurt.

"I…I…" I couldn't talk.

"No, don't talk," Bella said. "Shh, it's ok."

"Where are they?" I heard Felix ask.

"Wha…..What," I couldn't breathe. I tried to look down, but I started to black out.

"December don't you dare!" Peter said, coming with Charlette.

"Alec and Jane. They're gone." Felix said worriedly, "and he kept looking around, and Demetri."

"Bring the other two, that's what he said. He must've had Demetri already," Edward stated. Who was he?"

"My boss." I whispered. I looked at their faces and they looked shocked.

"Ahhhh ouch!" I coughed. More blood.

"Oh my god, Carlisle do something!" Bella said frantic.

"I….I can't. It won't come out," Carlisle said like he was out of breath. "December, can you take it out?" he asked.

"Are you fucking kidding me? She's barely hanging on and you want her to take it out herself!" Caius said walking around me towards Carlisle.

"I…I," I tried to talk but couldn't. I closed my eyes and sighed. I reached down and grabbed the handle. I felt another hand and opened my eyes to see Bella's hand on mine. She nodded. I breathed, as best I could, and we both yanked it out.

"Fucking!...Damn…." I seethed and gasped. Blood spilled out.

"Stop it damn it," Caius said kneeling. He gathered some of his robes and pressed down.

I looked at him.

"You will not die! You hear me," he whispered.

I started crying, I couldn't talk anymore. Jasper was gone. My vision started blurring.

"December! Hold on!" I heard Bella, barely.

"Turn her!" Emmett yelled.

"We can't," Edward whispered.

"What do you mean you can't?!" Felix responded.

I felt my arm being lifted and my shirt sleeve rolled up. The bites. A mirror to Jasper's arms.

"She's been bitten countless times in her job. One of the defense mechanisms of her powers, so she'll survive, she can't turn." Edward sighed, putting down my arm.

"You've got to be kidding me. So that's it? She dies? Here?" Aro said not believing anything he was hearing.

"She's made it through getting wounded before. Surly she will again?" asked Caius.

I coughed up more blood. "It's MY knife, Caius. My knife was used against me. Apparently, it can kill me." I tried to laugh but more blood came out.

"This isn't funny," said Bella.

I looked at her and her eyes filled with venom tears that would never fall.

"Make sure Renesmee," I couldn't stop coughing, "make sure she grows up for me."

"Ember!" Bella yelled.

The last thing I saw was her venom filled eyes. The last thing I tasted was blood. And I was gone.

Whoo. One hell of a chapter. Don't worry. Plenty of action next chapter as well. Hope you all like! So Crowley finally made his appearance. If you don't remember him, he is December's mentor from the first story. Finally next chapter we'll see what he's been doing behind the scenes. And what of Jasper, Jane, Demetri, and Alec?
