Note: Please enjoy! I have been going back and forth with this chapter. This chapter will be split in two. Both parts will feature a song to give background to the chapter. This first part will be in Jasper's POV. Song and lyrics are from 'Demons' from Imagine Dragons. After both chapters are complete, it will culminate and come together with one last chapter bringing everything together including a glimpse into a 'years later' ending.
Chapter 16 – Waypoint Pt 1
When the days are cold
And the cards all fold
And the saints we see are all made of gold
When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all, and the blood's run stale
I wanna hide the truth
I wanna shelter you
But with the beast inside
There's nowhere we can hide
No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come
When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close, it's dark inside
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
At the curtain's call
It's the last of all
When the lights fade out, all the sinners crawl
So they dug your grave
And the masquerade
Will come calling out at the mess you've made
Don't wanna let you down
But I am hell-bound
Though this is all for you
Don't wanna hide the truth
No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come
When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close, it's dark inside
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
They say it's what you make
I say it's up to fate
It's woven in my soul
I need to let you go
Your eyes, they shine so bright
I wanna save that light
I can't escape this now
Unless you show me how
When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close, it's dark inside
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
'Where the hell am I?' I think to myself as my eyes try to open. 'It smells foul, that's for sure. And I have one hell of a headache. Wait, can vampires even have headaches?'
Suddenly, I felt a shot of white-hot flame shoot through my body. All I could do was scream. I don't know how long I screamed for, but when I was done, I opened my eyes and found I was in a field.
I blinked a few times to clear my eyes and looked around. It was the school. Forks High. Why was I at school? We graduated.
'What the hell is going on?'
Suddenly I heard a laugh. 'I know that laugh.' I turned to where it was coming from. I saw her. December. My December. I ran over to her, in human speed of course.
She looked up. Her eyes, they're not right. Where was the white, they were just simple pale blue.
"Uh, can I help you?" she asked looking confused.
"Uh, darlin'? It's me, Jasper." I said. Something is not right.
"Nice accent, but I'm sorry. I have no idea who you are." she said as she made to leave. She walked away and I walked after her.
"Ember please, you know me. I'm your fiancé." I tried to tell her. She had stopped walking and turned around.
"Fiance'? Ha are you kidding? I'm nineteen years old, my whole life ahead of me. And you sir, are not in the picture, believe me." she started walking away again.
I trailed after her and put my hand on her shoulder. She grabbed my hand and flipped me over. 'Ouch, she's still tough as nails though.'
"If I were you, I wouldn't do that again. Please leave me alone." She said again, walking away from me.
"December! Please. It's Jasper!" I yelled, but she continued on her way.
I felt hot again. It soared through me like I was burning from the inside out. I saw a flash of white again and cried out in pain. I gasped and I rapidly blinked. I looked up and saw I was in some kind of lab. That stench is still here.
'What the hell? Where was I just now? Where's December?!'
"Tsk tsk. You creatures never leave the good ones alone." Came a voice from behind me.
"What?" I gasped. 'How can I be in this much pain?' Even when I was with Maria with newborns, that was nothing compared to this.'
"You demons have no conscience." The voice drew closer. "I've told my students time and time again you all are worthless. Sometimes they listen, but in this instance, you've brainwashed her!"
I felt a needle in my arm. "AAArrgghhh, what the hell?" I tried to shove away, but I couldn't. Damn chains. I tried to look up. I could make a male form, but that's it. My vision was too cloudy to see otherwise.
"What the hell do you want?" I noticed I was drooling. I couldn't help it, some of my body was numb for some reason.
"Ha. What I want. What I want is to be rid of you demons before anyone else falls into your traps. What I want is for my life to go back the way it was. It's because of your kind I must suffer!"
Once he said that I heard another scream. Someone was in here with me! It took a few seconds to realize who it was.
"Demetri!" I yelled and tried to move but I couldn't.
"Major! He's mad! He keeps giving us something in a syringe. It burns!" Demetri tried to say but then his voice garbled. It sounded like his mouth was numbing.
"Keep quiet you filth! I have enough going on without you pathetic excuses for creatures interrupting." He said as I watched him make his way back to what seemed like a desk.
I tried as hard as I could to talk. "You won't get away with this. Our families will find us."
He laughed. But it was off.
"Families. That crowd of garbage in the field? They won't find you. Not where we're at." He said whispering.
"You're wrong!" shouted Demetri spitting. He sounded like he was drooling too. "Our mates will come. Our families will come. And you will die!"
"Mates? What are mates? Friends of yours?" he clicked his tongue in thought, "surely they wouldn't risk their lives? Vampires have one single thing they want, blood. Doesn't matter who's it is. Mates? Ha! That's a good joke." He went back to his writing and pouring something in what looks like a beaker. Complete mad scientist lab if you ask me. The smell is horrible!
"They will find us Demetri. My Ember knows all. She'll come." I said matter-of-factly.
It took a few moments to realize he wasn't writing anymore. There was only silence. I heard footsteps walking towards me. The man bent down and took my jaw and lifted it. My face met his. I could see clearly, his face. From what Ember told me, this looked like him.
"Your Ember," he began, "is dead."
"You lie." I stared right back at him. I could hear Demetri trying to fight his way out, but the chains were too strong. Whatever they were made of, it was made to keep vampires in.
"Right before I departed with you and your friend, I made sure, she left this world." He said as he dropped my head.
"You fucking liar. If she died, I would've felt it." I seethed.
"Not really." He said nonchalant. "The dagger I stabbed her with, was her own. It'll slowly suck the hunter out of her, and her life force." He stood up, "you did this to her you know."
I was seething with hatred, "how so? By loving her?"
"Love? No such thing. "But yes, by being with her, you killed her. She left everything. Her life, her mission, me, because of you!" he shouted and kicked me in the face. I don't know what he had on his boots, but it caused a crack in my face. Hurt like hell. "She is a human. She was the only one who could complete her mission. You took her away. Made her stray. She's better off out of this world. She'll be at peace."
"Who the fuck are you to know any of that! She still did her duty. She still killed vampires and I helped. Not all are lost and evil like you think. She's the most beautiful person in this world and so help me, I'll find a way to kill you myself!" I struggled to get out of the chains. Demetri as well.
"Ha, you and your friend are as good as dead here. It won't be long until I'm done with MY mission. You fools will have to hang around a little longer. I've still got potions for you to try. Eventually," he said going over to his desk and grabbing another syringe. I tried to struggle but no use, "you will hate her or forget about her," he said as he gave another dose of the white-hot heat. I screamed and fell in the abyss.
I don't know how long it's been since we've been here. It felt like years. The constant burning and going in and out of consciousness is agonizing. Occasionally I would hear another voice. It wasn't Demetri, but the voice was familiar, in some way.
"Okay, I believe a stronger dose is needed," Crowley mumbled.
"December WILL kill you." I mumbled in return.
"You're more persistent than I thought. The other one called you 'Major'. In the army were you? Well, I'm sorry you were brought to this life, but you cannot go on." He mumbled.
"Who are you to make that decision for me you bastard," I said still struggling.
"It's been almost three days, and your family is not here. Face it. Your dead to them. And I am almost done." He said getting another syringe ready, with red liquid this time. This one should be the kicker," he said coming towards me.
"Major!" Demetri yelled struggling still.
There was a yell coming from below us. I noticed Crowley side glanced it but didn't mention it. He came towards me.
There was an explosion coming from above us.
"What the hell?" Crowley said turning and putting the syringe down.
Another explosion came that rattled everything, even the ground.
Suddenly, I felt it. The warmth, a glow. Anger, pain, love. I smiled. I looked at Demetri who was still across from me. He felt it too and smiled.
"Your guests are here," I said looking straight up at him.
"What are you talking about? Who?"
"My mate, and your worse nightmare."
"That's impossible." He mumbled.
Another explosion and everything in the room went everywhere. I had to shut my eyes because there was so much light. I opened my eyes and saw a shadow. Once cleared there was a figure walking in the room when two others. I couldn't tell who the other two were, but I knew who the main one was. I saw her eyes. Ice blue, looking into mine, which were black.
I felt her anger, pain, confusion. I sent her feelings of love, longing, and hatred. Hatred for the man that was on the other side of the table looking terribly confused.
Someone went to Demetri, probably Alice.
"What the hell is going on?!" Crowley yelled.
"The only monster you need to worry about, Crowley, is me." December said, turning her look to Crowley. Who for once, looked scared.
Pt 2 coming soon. I promise! I just didn't know how to fulfill this chapter! Love you all!
