Sam Puckett had been away from Seattle for almost six months. She had left town to pursue her dream of becoming an actress, leaving Freddie Benson behind. Carly, Spencer, and Gibby had been keeping Freddie company in her absence, but Freddie had always been in love with Sam and never dared to tell her.

When Sam returned to Seattle, Carly, Spencer, and Gibby encouraged Freddie to tell her how he felt. Freddie went to Sam's house, but he was shaking from the rain. Sam opened the door and said, "Are you insane?" Freddie replied, "No, I just need to tell you something."

Freddie confessed, "It's been a long six months, and I was too afraid to tell you what I want."

Sam looked at him quizzically, wondering what he was going to say.

Freddie continued, "I want you for worse or for better. I would wait forever and ever. I know I broke your heart, but I'll put it back together. I would wait forever and ever."

Carly, Spencer, and Gibby were watching from a distance, anxious to see how Sam would react. Freddie's confession took Sam aback. She had always known that Freddie had feelings for her, but she never expected him to say it out loud. Freddie reminded her of how it used to be, with pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks. He told her how he must have lost his mind when he left her all alone and never told her why. (Because of iGoodbye, Sam went away because Freddie left her all alone when Carly kissed him. But Sam and Carly are still best friends. But in this story, Carly never left and Sam went to L.A.)

Sam was moved by Freddie's words. She realized she had always loved him too but was afraid to admit it. Freddie's confession gave her the courage to say, "I want you for worse or for better. I would wait forever and ever. You broke my heart, but I'll put it back together."

Carly, Spencer, and Gibby cheered from the sidelines as Freddie and Sam hugged each other. They knew that true love had finally found its way to Sam and Freddie and that they would be together forever. That's how it works. That's how you get the girl (or guy) with the help of your friends.
