Hey everyone, sorry for the tremendously long wait between updates. I had a very tough second semester in college and had to deal with an unexpected death of a close friend. (which I'm doing fine now) This past summer I went to England and did research for treatment for diabetes and obesity and was very busy with that but I did get to travel around parts of England and Europe (Spain & Greece). I've also been busy studying for the MCAT and started applying for medical schools so I've been busy. But I should have more free time and I have worked a little bit on future chapters and so hopefully more updates will happen soon. If you're reading the story still or if this is your first-time thanks for sticking around and I hope you enjoy. This chapter is very choppy and I kinda just rushed to get it finished because I wanted to get it finished since I've been "writing" it for months now. Anyways let me know what you think or if you want to know any more about my summer experiences just leave a review or shoot me a PM!

Panem Events

The Capitol was shocked but pleased by Sega's victory. Sega's ruthlessness in the ending days of the Arena was not expected by the Capitol, but they loved it. With a new year approaching, Panem was relatively peaceful. President Marcellus was a benevolent president and he worked with Julius Falco for this year's Games. The Capitol was pleased with the Arena and mutts of the past Games and they were excited to see what Julius had in mind this year. Julius drew interest from an old history book detailing the events of a Great War many centuries ago that involved many countries of the world. Julius released a trailer for the Arena that showed a narrow passageway with dirt-packed walls. The camera pans to show a figure running down the pathway as black smoke erupts from the background and the ground shakes, the scene ends as a mustard colored gas spreads across the camera and envelops the running figure. The Capitol was greatly interested and excited about the Games.

The tributes of this year's Games were slightly below average. The most exciting pair being the tributes of One, Sterling and Crystal, both were relatives of past District One tributes. Sterling is the cousin of Chanel from the 76th Games and Crystal is the younger sister of Treasure from the 80th Games. These two were obviously the Capitol favorites from the start. The other half of the Career alliance was the pair from Four, Walen and Tallahassee. Walen was a master with the trident and scored the highest with a ten. Tallahassee was a swift and agile girl and one of the fastest swimmers in Four. District Two did not offer any actual Careers due to the destruction of their main Career Academy. The tributes of Two were excluded from the Career alliance due to the events of the last Games and their poor training scores. Marble volunteered for the Games but had minimum training while Camilla was reaped. Outside of the Career alliance, the biggest focus was on Faun of Seven and Reid of Nine who both scored sevens. There weren't many alliances this Games with the biggest consisting of the tributes of Five and Six, another alliance was Debbie of Ten and Abbey of Eleven.

Day One

The tributes rise up in a semi-circle around the Cornucopia which is located on flat-packed dirt. The tributes look around confused. They each wear cargo pants, black boots, a grey tank top, and a camo jacket. The tributes scan the area which consists of a large area with seven-foot-tall walls on the perimeter, coils of razor wire line the top of the walls while narrow passageways lead away from the Cornucopia area. A large artillery gun fires somewhere in the distance and shakes the ground. Jinny of Five almost loses her balance and falls but catches herself. The Arena this year is based on the trench warfare of World War One, a network of trenches zigzag across the Arena almost like a maze. The main source of supplies is at the Cornucopia with a few supply packs found at small bunkers within the trenches. The countdown ends and the tributes sprint to the Cornucopia. The only tributes to run away are Vic of Eight and Wisp of Seven.

Tallahassee makes it to the Cornucopia first and picks up a pack of throwing knives. She spots a small girl trying to drag a large duffel bag away from the Corncucopia. Tallahassee easily throws a knife into the girl's chest.

24. Debbie Fudd, 14, D10- knife thrown into chest by Tallahassee Edwards, D4

Crystal finds a pack of throwing knives as well and she quickly puts them into use by targeting a girl running with her District Partner.

23. Bernice Tindle, 16, D5- knife thrown into back by Crystal Hills, D1

Nissan stops midrun to watch his District Partner fall to the ground dead. He desperately looks around for his other allies but is met by Faun who slashes a small knife across his chest before sprinting away.

22. Nissan Onani, 12, D6- chest slashed by Faun Peterson, D7

On the backside of the Cornucopia, Reid and Walen fight one on one. Walen has a trident and Reid holds a machete. Reid hacks at Walen but Walen is better trained and soon takes the upper hand and stabs his trident into Reid's chest.

21. Reid Chamberman, 18, D9- trident stabbed into chest by Walen Spencer, D4

Jesse reaches for a black bag on the edge of the Cornucopia but is met by Camilla who also grabs the bag. Jesse tugs at the pack and doesn't notice the knife in Camilla's hand. Camilla releases the bag and Jesse stumbles back and falls to the ground. Camilla slashes the knife across Jesse's abdomen before picking up the pack and running away.

20. Jesse Nolan, 16, D11- abdomen slashed by Camilla DiMazzio, D2

Crystals stalks across the Cornucopia grounds in search of her next kill. She spots Rubix digging through a crate before throwing a knife into his neck.

19. Rubix Dux, 14, D3- knife thrown into neck by Crystal Hills, D1

Sterling searches in the back of the Cornucopia for his favorite weapon hoping the Capitol placed it in the Arena. Hidden behind a crate of blankets Sterling finds it, a sleek bow. Sterling runs to the mouth of the Cornucopia with bow in hand and a quiver of arrows. He spots his first target running away with a sleeping bag under her arm. Sterling releases an arrow and it lands in the middle of the girl's back, knocking her to the ground.

18. Echo Polenski, 16, D3- arrow shot into back of the head by Sterling Russeau, D1

Sharen is digging through a crate when Dale tackles her from the side. The two wrestle on the ground and Dale manages to pin Sharen to the ground. Dale wraps his hands around Sharen's throat as Sharen wildly thrashes around. Sharen feels around and finds a steel water bottle, she swings the bottle and knocks Dale in the side of the head. Sharen is able to escape from under Dale and spots a small knife. She takes the knife and quickly plunges the blade into Dale's abdomen before running away.

17. Dale Weston, 17, D10- stabbed in the abdomen by Sharen Blackburn, D12

Faun is running away from the Cornucopia with a large pack on her back and a dagger in her hand. She sprints down one of the trenches and runs into a crying Quinton who has a large cut across his right arm. Quinton is curled up on the ground sobbing. Faun stabs her dagger into the poor boy's neck before continuing on.

16. Quinton Shay, 13, D12- stabbed in the neck by Faun Peterson, D7

As the Bloodbath comes to an end, Dolly leaps out from the shadows of the Cornucopia and manages to slice her dagger across the thigh of Tallahassee. Tallahassee screams in pain and before Dolly can make the fatal move Walen throws his spear into Dolly's chest.

15. Dolly Livingston, 18, D8- trident stabbed into chest Walen Spencer, D4

The Bloodbath ends with ten cannons booming. The outliers travel out across the arena following the maze of trenches. Vic is the farthest away from the Cornucopia. He finds a small bunker on the outer edge of the arena. Inside the bunker, he finds a sleeping bag and a canteen of water. Wisp has also traveled far but doesn't come across any bunkers and instead curls up in the middle of the trench and hopes that no one finds him. Ellis and Jinny run east away from the Cornucopia, they are the only ones left of their District 5 and 6 alliance. Ellis managed to get a small pack of food and a blanket, while Jinny was able to get a small dagger and a package of jerky. They find a small dugout in the side of a trench and stays there for the night. Faun runs west still fueled by the adrenaline of her first kills in the Games. She was able to get a pack of throwing knives and a pack of food and water at the Cornucopia. She finds a small bunker to stay the night in. Emily was able to survive the bloodbath but she did not make it far before a panic attack hit her. She was able to find a small dugout where she anxiously passed the night. Abbey lost her ally in the bloodbath but she was still able to grab a loaf of bread and she finds a small bunker to stay the night in. Sharen also finds a bunker on the outer edge of the arena to stay in. The duo from Two, Marble and Camilla, don't travel too far from the Cornucopia before finding a dugout to stay in for the night.

Day Two

The Career's wake early the next morning in search of tributes. Sterling stays behind to guard the Corncucopia since his bow is not as effective in the close corners of the trenches. Not far from the Cornucopia, the Careers run into the wannabe Careers, Marble and Camilla. The District Two tributes were hoping to ambush the Cornucopia after the hunting party had left, not to actually run into the hunting party. Marble rises his sword to attack but Walen quickly stabs his trident into Marble's chest. Camilla does not try to stay and defend herself but instead turns around to run away. However, Crystal is quick and she easily throws a knife into Camilla's back.

14. Marble Yemen, 15, D2- trident stabbed into chest by Walen Spencer, D4

13. Camilla DiMazzio, 17, D2- knife thrown into back by Crystal Hills, D1

The two cannons of the District Two pair soon boom and the Careers continue on their way. The Careers spend most of the day trying to navigate through the trenches but soon find themselves lost. However, a sponsor gives them a map outlining all of the trenches of the arena. The Careers soon return back to the Cornucopia where Sterling has cooked a pot of soup. The rest of the tributes are not as lucky as the Careers and spend most of the day roaming around the trenches randomly. Many have new places to stay for the night because they could not find the place they started their journeys from.

Day Three

The day passes slowly as tributes continue to roam the arena. Many of the tributes are isolated from one another. Only a few outliers go far away from their shelters. Many seek shelter in the many dugout bunkers. Many of the dugouts hold supplies such as water and food and so many of the tributes are not motivated to leave their shelters. The confusing maze of trenches is making it hard for the Careers to hunt for tributes as well.

The only interaction is between Sharen and the alliance of Jinny and Ellis. Sharen runs throughout the outer portion of the arena in search of a better hiding place. She comes across Jinny who is sitting cross-legged outside of a dugout. Both girls look up in surprise. Jinny jumps to her feet as Sharen reaches for a knife. Ellis walks out of the dugout and freezes.

"Please don't hurt us!" Jinny squeaks.

Sharen hesitates for a second because Jinny has the same ratty blonde hair as Sharen's younger sister, "Do you have anything to eat?"

Jinny nods her head aggressively, "Yeah, we have a lot and some water. You can have it. Please just don't hurt us."

"I'm not going to hurt you," Sharen says lowering her knife, "Get me something to eat."

Jinny pulls out half a loaf of bread from her pack and hands it to Sharen, "Where did you get all of this food?" Sharen asks eyeing the large pack.

"It was here in the dugout when we got here, along with these two canteens of water," Ellis responds.

"Hmm, I hadn't noticed any supplies in the dugouts before," Sharen says shrugging.

"So are we allies now?" Jinny asks quietly.

"Yeah for now," Sharen responds taking a bite of bread.

Day Four

Nothing much happens as the tributes continue to stay isolated from one another. Even the Careers don't travel far in fear that they would lose their way back to the Cornucopia. Walen volunteers to start making a map of the Arena but even that would take days to complete. The day ends without any death.

Day Five

Sharen, Ellis, and Jinny wake up fairly early in the morning. The group has continuously stayed on the outer edge of the arena. They share their last bits of jerky when a small canister is thrown over the trench wall. Jinny quickly picks up the cannister in hopes that it holds a sponsor gift. She picks it up and is confused when it is obviously not a sponsor gift.

"What is this?" Jinny asks.

A yellow gas spews out of the top of the cannister and it starts to burn at Jinny's hands. Ellis immediately sprints away and Sharen watches in horror as Jinny starts to scream as the yellow cloud surrounds her. Ten more canisters fly over the trench wall and start to spew the yellow gas. Sharen quickly grabs her pack and starts to run away. Jinny is blinded by the gas as it burns at her eyes and throats. Jinny stumbles a few steps before collapsing to the ground and her cannon booms.

12. Jinny Gristen, 15, D6- killed by mustard gas

Sharen tries to outrun the cloud of poisonous gas but the canisters continue to spew out the gas. The gas starts to burn Sharen's skin as it surrounds her. Sharen can't run the gas and she starts to cough as she inhales the poison. The gas fully consumes Sharen and it isn't long before her cannon booms.

11. Sharen Blackburn, 18, D12- killed by mustard gas

Ellis sprints away with tears in his eyes as the two cannon booms. He barely escapes the poisonous with only a few blisters forming on his arms and face. The Gamemakers spread the mustard gas throughout the outer portions of the arena to shrink the size of the arena and to push the tributes closer together. The only other tribute to experience the mustard gas is Abbey of Eleven. Abbey noticed the cloud of gas before it could reach her and she was able to outrun the cloud with only a few blisters forming on her skin.

Day Six

The two cannons the previous day cause the Careers to become anxious.

"I say we split up into two groups. Gather as many supplies as we can and just head off into the Arena," Crystal states during breakfast.

"I agree," Walen responds, "We need to find the outliers. We haven't had a kill since day two and the audience must be getting anxious."

Tallahassee nods her head in agreement, "I agree as well. I don't think we need to guard the Cornucopia because I doubt any of the outliers can find their way back here anyway."

"How do you feel about this, Sterling?" Crystal asks her district partner.

Sterling pauses a moment to think about it, "I agree. However, I still want us to be allies, just working separately."

"Okay fine, we don't kill you and you guys don't kill us. Sounds fair to me," Walen says.

With a consensus met the two Districts split up and gather plenty of supplies to last a few days and head off in opposite directions into the arena. The day passes by as the many before it did, without much action. The mustard gas on the outer edge of the arena slowly creeps inward but it doesn't affect any of the tributes.

Day Seven

Most of the outer tributes are beginning to run low on food and venturing further away from their shelters. Around midday Ellis of Five meets Abbey of Eleven. Ellis has been a wreck the past few days since his allies died. He barely notices Abbey until it's almost too late. Abbey swings a knife at Ellis' face and with feral reflexes, Ellis dodges the knife. Adrenaline pumps through Ellis' veins and he manages to punch Abbey in the side of the face and she falls to the ground. This gives Ellis enough time to run away and by the time Abbey regains her senses he is nowhere to be found.

Later in the evening, the District Four pair finds Vic sitting in the middle of a trench with his eyes closed and his back against a wall.

"Just taking a break?" Tallahassee muses.

Vic's eyes open wide in fear as Walen plunges his trident into his chest.

10. Vic Hogan, 17, D8- stabbed in the chest by Walen Spencer, D4

Day Eight

Ellis hasn't eaten anything in the past two days and his encounter with Abbey yesterday has made him very paranoid. He stumbles through the trench maze in search of any supplies. The sky above is starting to cloud up and a low rumble of thunder sounds. Ellis takes a few more steps and a torrential downpour falls from the sky. Ellis runs in search of a place of shelter. He finds a small dugout and goes inside. Ellis is now covered in mud and chilled to the bone. He curls up in the corner of the dugout and tries to wait out the rain. A few minutes later, Ellis hears sloshing outside and Emily peeks her head in the dugout. Ellis shouts and Emily pounces onto the emanciated boy. Emily stabs her knife into Ellis' chest. His cannon booms and Emily searches him for any supplies. Emily is disappointed that he doesn't even have an extra knife on him. She gives a small huff and drags Ellis' body outside into the rain for the hovercraft to take it away.

9. Ellis Thimple, 16, D5- stabbed in the chest by Emily Reaper, D9

This leaves the Final Eight: Sterling Russeau and Crystal Hills of District One, Walen Spencer and Tallahassee Edwards of District Four, Wisp Donnell and Faun Peterson of District Seven, Emily Reaper of District Nine, and Abbey Tellis of District Eleven.

On the other side of the arena, Crystal and Sterling race through the rain in search of a place of shelter. They round a corner and see Abbey a few meters ahead. Abbey gives a small scream that is masked by the sound of the rain and thunder. Abbey sprints off and the District One pair chase after her. A game of cat and mouse ensues. Crystal throws a knife at Abbey but it's aimed too high and it flies over Abbey's left shoulder. Sterling stops to shoot an arrow but Abbey turns a corner before he can release, "Damn it," he mutters.

The District One pair starts to run after Abbey once again. They quickly catch back up to Abbey. They all round a corner but Sterling slips in the mud and falls to the ground. "Keep going, I'll catch up!" he shouts to Crystal. Crystal nods her head and starts once again after Abbey. Abbey starts to slow down from exhaustion and her side starts to cramp. Crystal catches back up to Abbey and throws another knife, this time it lands in Abbey's left shoulder and she falls to the ground. Abbey screams in pain as she tries to wipe the mud from her face and get back to her feet. Crystal runs up to Abbey and kicks her back to the ground and flicks a knife into chest.

8. Abbey Tellis, 13, D11- knife thrown into chest by Crystal Hills, D1

Crystal leaves Abbey's body where it lays and heads back to Sterling. The pair meets back up and Crystal starts to laugh at the muddy mess of Sterling, "You need a bath," Crystal says laughing.

"Well, you don't look too hot yourself," Sterling says with a smile, his white teeth a contrast to his muddy, brown face.

Day Nine

The morning passes slowly as the tributes slowly start to roam the arena. The rain from yesterday has made the arena unbearably humid. Wisp stays near his shelter in a dugout until he notices the mustard gas slowly creeping his way. He doesn't stick around long and he quickly gathers his belongings. The gas is slow enough that Wisp's walking pace is plenty fast enough to outrun it. Wisp realizes the yellow gas must be Gamemaker's ploy to bring the tributes closer together, meaning other tributes are likely nearby.

Not long after, Wisp spots Walen and Tallahassee ahead of him. He turns and starts to run down a side-way and the District Four pair chase after him. Wisp doesn't make it far before Walen manages to thrust his trident through Wisp's back. The prongs of Walen's trident protrude through Wisp's chest and he sputters and chokes on his own blood. Wisp's cannon booms and the District Four pair continue on their way.

7. Wisp Donnell, 16, D7- trident thrust into back by Walen Spencer, D4

None of the other tributes run into the gas or each other for the rest of the day.

Day Ten

Not much happens as the tributes roam the arena. The two Career duos search for tributes but don't have any luck. Faun and Emily both stay near their shelters for the day. The gas on the outskirts of the arena continues to slowly creep inward.

Day Eleven

Early in the morning, the sound of explosions and artillery fire awakens the tributes. The tributes run across the arena in fear as bombshells explode overhead and shake the ground. Chaos ensues as the tributes spread out. Tallahassee and Walen lose each other in the chaos but Crystal and Sterling stick by each other's side. In the early morning darkness, Crystal notices a tribute ahead. A split second of light from an explosion shows that it's the girl from Nine, Emily. Sterling notches an arrow and fires, but the poor lighting makes his aim poor and the arrow lands in Emily's calf. Emily falls to the ground, her screams silenced by the explosions overhead. Emily tries to get back up but this time Sterling's aim is better and he shoots an arrow into Emily's chest. Her cannon is glossed over by the explosions.

6. Emily Reaper, 16, D9- arrow shot into chest by Sterling Russeau, D1

Walen runs around a corner and finds the body of Emily laying on the ground and Crystal and Sterling a few meters away. Walen charges towards the District One pair with his trident raised, but he's no match to Crystal's knife. She effortlessly throws her knife into Walen's neck and he collapses to the ground as he sputters and chokes on his own blood.

5. Walen Spencer, 18, D4- knife thrown into neck by Crystal Hills, D1

"So I guess we're not allies with Four anymore," Sterling mutters.

"I guess not," Crystal says with a shrug.

The chaos settles down after the two deaths and the tributes spend the day without much interaction.

Day Twelve

The tributes roam the arena but the Gamemakers don't draw them nearer to each other because they want the tributes to rest for the big finale. Sterling and Crystal discuss splitting up, but Sterling convinces Crystal to stay with him to give District One better odds of winning.

Day Thirteen

Before daybreak, the tributes are awakened once again by the sound of artillery fire and a siren blaring in the distance. All four tributes hastily scramble to grab their supplies and start to navigate towards the Cornucopia. The blaring of the sirens and the ground shaking from the artillery blast cause the tributes to become disoriented easily. The Gamemakers want to intense the finale and cause a downpour of rain. The rain beats down on the tributes and the ground quickly becomes sloshy mud. It's hard to see in the dark rain, but somehow Crystal and Sterling still stay together. Tallahassee is having a rough time making it to the center of the arena, so the Gamemakers release the mustard gas to help guide her. The yellow gas burns Tallahassee's skin but she keeps running and eventually ends up going in the right direction. To make the finale even more intense the Gamemakers have an invisible hovercraft drop small bombs across the outskirts of the arena to make the tributes even more disoriented.

Faun makes it to the center of the arena and sprints to the Cornucopia to seek shelter from the rain and explosions. She makes it around the corner of the Cornucopia but Crystal and Sterling are already there. Faun manages a small squeak before Crystal throws a knife into her chest.

4. Faun Peterson, 15, D7- knife thrown into chest by Crystal Hills, D1

"Great throw," Sterling says to his District partner. Crystal and Sterling turn around to see Tallahassee right behind them. Tallahassee aims her knife at Crystal, the stronger of the District One pair, and quickly chunks her knife. Crystal is too stunned to dodge the knife and it impales her in the forehead. Crystal drops to the ground and her cannon booms.

3. Crystal Hills, 18, D1- knife thrown into head by Tallahassee Edwards, D4

The Games end quickly because before Tallahassee can reach for another knife, Sterling shoots an arrow into her chest. Tallahassee falls backwards onto the ground and her cannon booms.

2. Tallahassee Edwards, 17, D4- arrow shot in the chest by Sterling Russeau, D1

"Congratulation, Sterling Russeau of District One. You are the Victor of the 88th Hunger Games!" Sterling gives a solemn look at Crystal's body before grabbing onto the ladder. Sterling ascends up into the hovercraft while the rain continues to pour and the deafening sounds of warfare and thunder boom.
