This is Part III of the Thanksgiving Special. Last time, Blaze and company learned that Aquaman had been killed, and that his body and trident had been stolen. As they pondered the purpose behind Darkblood likely being the culprit, we learned what he was doing. Darkblood used Aquaman's own trident, now corrupted into Darkblood's own Black Trident, to turn his body into Dark Gems before turning them into an indestructible Golem made only to serve Darkblood's will, the dreaded Armageddon. So, what adventure awaits? Read on to discover...
(Our scene picks up in Legion HQ, where Blaze is questioning John Constantine, Kent Nelson, and Batman as to what the heck happened while she was fighting Darkblood and Superman, with Belial Aether, Flash, and Green Arrow backing her up.)
Blaze: So let me get this straight, your daughter, that I didn't even know you had, convinced you to come back to the fray to rescue Kent?
John Constantine: That's my reason.
Blaze: (Turning to Kent Nelson) And now you're free from the Lords of Order since the Helm of Fate itself is what Darkblood corrupted?
Kent Nelson: Yes. Nabu is the one he turned, not me.
Blaze: Okay, this is getting absurd, quite frankly. And it definitely sounds like things just got much worse.
Kent Nelson: Indeed. If Darkblood now controls a Lord of Order and Aquaman's trident, he possesses two of the most powerful mystic artifacts in all the world.
Blaze: Is the trident really that powerful?
Kent Nelson: The trident alone was able to seal the Ixthultu and the Old Ones away millennia ago in the hands of a sorcerer king, though at the cost of sinking Atlantis. I fear he could use it to reopen the breach.
Blaze: No. If Darkblood is anything like he appears to be, he'll want to keep the spotlight to himself. This Ick-whats-it will still be contained, I'm sure.
Kent Nelson: Never the less, I should still prepare in case it is done accidentally.
Green Arrow: Wait, can you still fight without the Helm?
Kent Nelson: The Helm may have boosted my magic, but I still have enough without it. Though I could probably use some assistance.
Blaze: Check with Zatanna, she'd probably be willing to aid you.
Kent Nelson: I can only hope you are right.
Belial Aether: I'll go with you. My power is derived from a similar source, I believe. The three of us together should be able to pull this off.
Kent Nelson: Thank you, my friend.
Belial Aether: I'll be taking a leave of absence for a few days then. (To Blaze) Could you please inform Starfire that she's in charge of the Republic for that time?
Blaze: Can do.
Belial Aether: Thanks.
(With that, Kent Nelson summons a portal back to the Tower of Fate, with him and Belial Aether walking through as the conversation resumes via Batman)
Batman: So was your plan successful?
Blaze: Surprisingly, yes. We were able to pull a little bit of Drago out of Darkblood. And I asked the one thing I need to know.
Batman: That being?
Flash: Going to guess it's "How do we free him?"
Blaze: Exactly, Barry.
Green Arrow: So what did you get out of him?
Blaze: It wasn't very much. All he said was "Find Gray Son". Or something like that. I'm not sure what it means, to be honest.
(At this point, everybody else in the room is looking around a little bit stunned, save for Batman, who's just looking down, and soon has to sit down, turning slightly depressed.)
Blaze: (Looking at Batman) You know something, don't you, Bruce.
Batman: There's only one person Dragnarok could have meant with that. Nightwing.
Blaze: What, your son? How is Damian Wayne crucial to bringing Dragnarok back?
Batman: Not Damian. The first and true Nightwing: Dick Grayson.
John Constantine: Only he's not going by Nightwing anymore. He's Deadman now.
Blaze: I'm still a little confused here.
John Constantine: Trust me, Blaze. So am I. I'm not sure what he can do for us either.
Blaze: But it's a lead. And so help me, we must follow up on. (To Batman) Organize an away team from the Legion, Republic, and Insurgency. And no matter what, you're on it.
Batman: Wait, you want me on this team?
Blaze: From what I remember, Dick Grayson was more your son than Damian will ever be. Like hell I'd deny you the chance to talk to him again. I may not like you, but I'm not heartless.
Batman: (Brushing a tear from his cheek) Thank you, Blaze. I already know a few other people who would probably join us.
(And with that, Batman walks off to assemble the team)
Flash: That's the first time I've seen Bruce cry in nearly a decade.
Blaze: First time ever for me.
John Constantine: (Getting up from his chair) I might as well go with you.
Blaze: I thought you had a family to get back to?
John Constantine: One more mission won't kill me. Besides, you'll need a mystic where you're going. But once this is done, now that Kent is back to normal, I'm out for good, for real this time.
Blaze: Understandable. So, where are we heading?
John Constantine: The best place to reach the Deadman. Nanda Parbat.
(And on that, our scene ends for today)
This concludes Part III of the Thanksgiving Special. For the Finale, head on over to Ashes of Midnight. So, it looks like Dragnarok's one clue was to track down Dick Grayson, the former Nightwing and current Deadman. And the only place to find him, is Nanda Parbat. But one question remains, how does any of this get us closer to getting Dragnarok back? Tune in next time to hopefully start finding out! Same time... same channel!
