As Snowden gets to the top of the stairs, he tries to get the attention of the three unidentified survivors on the bridge.
Snowden: Uhh, excuse me sir.
Francis: Wha— Shit! It's the military! *draws M1911 Pistol*
Snowden: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Easy there, fireball. I mean no harm.
Zoey: Yeah, bullshit! You and your military and CEDA friends have done nothing but hurt people like us!
Snowden: Wait, what are you talking about?
Louis: Zoey, Francis, take it easy first. Listen, we appreciate you trying to save us, but I think we're good on our own. Living with CEDA and the military was not easy. Harmful experiments and check-ups on us, even though we are not infected.
Snowden: What? The only tests we did were on dead zombies, not living breathing human beings.
Louis: Well, it happened to us. Did you see everything that CEDA has done?
Snowden: Honestly, no. Which makes me wonder: What kind of secrets are you hiding, CEDA? *nods* Okay, I understand where you're coming from. I'm sorry for what CEDA and the military did to you guys. And I'm not gonna force you to do anything. But think about this. It doesn't look like you've got enough supplies to make it through a year, let alone the upcoming winter. And bridges are way too exposed with little to no escape routes. Trust me, I've seen people try to make a foothold in them. And that green looking water is contaminated with The Green Flu, or rather The Infection. Active, deadly, seaborne viruses that will internally deconstruct and kill anyone the moment they enter your body through water. It doesn't matter if you're immune or a carrier. You will die trying to swim. That's your choice of staying here. Or, you can come with me. I'll take you back to civilization, where you will be treated humanely and with a clean slate. You can be happy, be normal again. We're gonna have to take some long pit stops along the way, but we will get there. You just have to trust me. Like I said before, I'm not gonna force you. But you must choose.
With the options they are given, Zoey, Louis and Francis take a moment to huddle up and choose.
Zoey: What's your name?
Snowden: Captain Matthew Snowden, U.S. Army. But people just call me Snowden.
Zoey: Alright, Snowden, I'm Zoey. And Francis, Louis and I are going with you. Under two conditions. No government work or any of their bullshit.
Snowden: None. Understood.
Zoey: Also, help us take care of Bill's body down there. He's a soldier like you, but he's dead. Can you give him a proper send-off?
Snowden: With some gasoline and a lighter, yes I can. Better to fade away than to rot or be eaten.
Zoey: Okay. Thank you.
Snowden: *nods* Can you lower the bridge?
Zoey: Sorry, can't. The generator is outta gas.
Snowden: Okay, just jump over here then. It's not far and I will catch you if you fall. Trust me.
First step of trust for Snowden is to get Zoey, Francis and Louis off the bridge and to his side safely, which he does without issue. Then they take the elevator nearby and head down to Bill's remains.
Before burning his body, Snowden positions him facing up, with his empty M16 Assault Rifle on him and his beret in place. Then the Captain gives Zoey, Louis and Francis a moment to say goodbye.
Zoey: We're gonna be alright, Bill. I promise you that. Thank you for everything. I love you.
Francis: You were a great man, Bill. I owe you one big time, brother. I... we won't forget you.
Louis: You did it, Bill. Now we're gonna be home free. I'm sure you'd want that. Thank you... and goodbye.
Francis: Hey Snowden, we're ready.
Before dousing the body with gas, Snowden gently grabs Bill's dogtags and gives them to Zoey.
Snowden: Here, something to remember him by. Soldiers tend to give this when their time comes.
Zoey: *sniffs* Thank you.
Snowden pours gasoline on Bill*
Snowden: Go with God now, William Overbeck. Welcome him into the kingdom of Heaven and the light of your face. Amen.
gasoline lights up*
Snowden salutes*
