THE UNBECOMING
We either fight or we become one of them.
Joining a Campaign game.
Starring: Snowden, Zoey, Francis, Louis
After Bill's funeral, Snowden, Zoey, Francis and Louis move out to get into town for supplies.
Snowden: We can properly mourn later. Right now, we need to move.
Zoey: Okay. What's the plan?
Snowden: First step is to get supplies or we won't make it. We gotta get to the CEDA camp I came from. It's in town. It'll have everything we need. Don't worry, I'll personally handle that part when we get there.
Francis: Don't you cross us now.
Snowden: I won't, I promise.
Louis: Let's do it.
With just pistols and the will to live, the survivors turn left and go through a smashed concrete barricade. Before reaching anywhere near the town, they have to hop over abandoned cars that go on for a mile.
Halfway through, they each kill four Common Infected in their path until they stop when they see a Fallen Survivor carrying a First Aid Kit and a Pipe Bomb.
Snowden: Slowly. We need his supplies. I'll shove him to stumble him, you guys light his head up... *smack* now.
gunfire*
Snowden: Cease fi— Stop! Stop, stop. Good work. *picks up First Aid Kit* I got the First Aid Kit if somebody needs it. Helps when you're hurt bad. *picks up Pipe Bomb* Anybody knows what this is?
Zoey: Yeah.
Francis: Yeah, bro.
Louis: I used to make those.
Snowden: Good. Zoey, this is yours.
Zoey: Thanks.
Snowden: Pipe Bomb, six second fuse with loud beeping which attracts Common Infected and some Uncommon Infected. Great for clearing areas and hordes.
In gameplay, Snowden acts as the tutorial for new players to the series with his weapon and item descriptions, and sharing grenades with others is possible now. Some Fallen Survivors attack instead of fleeing away, but the aggressive ones are empty-handed.
While those who run are always carrying items. Almost through the traffic jam, the group manages to kill a retreating Fallen Survivor equipped with another First Aid Kit, a Molotov Cocktail and a bottle of Pain Pills.
Snowden: I'm guessing you also know what a Mollie— err... Molotov Cocktail is.
Louis: You guessed right.
Snowden: Alright, this one's got your name on it, Francis.
Francis: Sweet, thanks.
Snowden: Pain Pills, don't be wasteful with this stuff. They won't last forever. Louis, take it.
Louis: Grabbin' Pills. Thanks, Snowden.
Snowden: Eh it's nothing, guys. Come on, I can see the town's lights. We're close.
Now through the line of parked cars and into the town itself, Snowden, Zoey, Louis and Francis find themselves in the street where Ed, Chase and Ray died.
Louis: Whoa, something horrible happened here.
Snowden: Yeah, I just got out of this shit.
Zoey: Really?
Snowden: Mm-hmm, I had three friends with me. We accidentally turned on a jukebox in that bar and summoned a horde. They died getting killed by newly mutated Special Infected, and... and making sure I escaped. This is Ed, a reliable retired Marine who held the horde off long enough for me to disappear.
Zoey: I'm so sorry.
Snowden: Me too. Louis, Francis, grab his Glock Pistols and mags. They'll handle similarly, so they should go well together.
Mixing and matching the starting pistols of the three Left 4 Dead games is possible, with each having their own unique reload animations, whether alone, together or mixed. While they may have found Ed's Glock Pistols, his Scout Rifle is missing.
But Chase's Combat Submachine Gun and Combat Knife, and Ray's Police Shotgun and Collapsible Baton are still around. So Snowden gives them, except the Combat Knife and Collapsible Baton which he keeps in his backpack, to Louis and Francis while explaining who their original owners are.
Snowden: Combat Submachine Gun, slower than others but more powerful and accurate than others. Combat Knife, when shooting's not an option, you'll be lucky to have this, or any other hitting and stabbing weapon, by your side. Hope you don't mind me keeping this for now. Who holds the submachine gun here?
Louis: Me.
Snowden: Take this. It belongs to Chase, right there. A recently graduated medical school student. Kid had a lot to live for.
Louis: I'm sorry, sir.
Snowden: Likewise. Here we have a Police Shotgun. Its wide spread makes it less accurate than others, but it packs a heavier punch, especially up close. And here's a Collapsible Baton. Since one of The Infection's side effects is brittle bones, bashing zombies to death is a whole lot easier. This one's also going in the bag, apologies. Who has the shotgun?
Francis: That'll be me.
Snowden: Here, it belongs to Ray over here. A former mafioso who happens to be an actually decent guy. I'm gonna miss him along with the others.
Francis: Sorry for you loss, man.
Snowden: I am as well. Alright, those weapons will even up the score.
After getting some proper weapons, Zoey, Francis and Louis then want to help Snowden with his friends' remains.
Zoey: Hey, would you want to take care of your friends' bodies?
Snowden: I'd want that but I've burned non-infected bodies of passed away elderly before. And the smell of burning fresh humans will alert a horde.
Francis: We're up for it. We've been itching to kill more vampires for what they did to Bill.
Snowden: *chuckles* You sure, guys?
Louis: Yeah, you've helped us say our goodbyes to Bill.
Zoey: Time for us to return the favor.
Snowden: *smiles* Thank you, Zoey, Francis, Louis. Okay, there's a gas can over there. I'll pour them with it first, and then we light it up. Be ready for a fight, the horde that killed them may still be around here.
In the Survivors' inventory, there are now six slots for a main, secondary and melee weapon, a grenade, medical or upgrade kit, and extra healing. While some weapons can be found, the Laser Sights and Explosive Ammo are lost.
Regardless, they ready up for the upcoming Crescendo Event while Snowden sends his friends' dead bodies off in ash.
Snowden: You're not gonna be a nice meal for the horde, guys.
Left 4 Dead 1 horde screeching*
Snowden: We got a heavy fight incoming!
gunfire*
While clearing out the horde, the same Smoker, Jockey, Charger and Hunter come out to play. But this time, the group, especially Snowden, sees them coming.
Smoker Voice*
Zoey: Smoker!
Snowden: Kill him before he grabs you or makes a fog!
Smoker Death*
Zoey: Got him!
Jockey Voice*
Louis: I recognize that noise but I don't remember where it's coming from!
Snowden: That's a Jockey! Kill it before it steers you and steals your shit!
Jockey Death*
Francis: That's mine!
Charger Voice*
Zoey: What the hell is that again?!
Snowden: Charger! Don't get rammed or he'll smash you and throw you away!
Charger Death*
Snowden: There's a speed limit here, asshole!
Hunter Voice*
Francis: I hear a Hunter! Come out, you wussy!
Snowden: Check high! He can hang on ceilings, walls, posts and other narrow high spots now!
Hunter Death*
Louis: Killed it!
gunfire stops*
Snowden: Clear! Well done, people! Now follow me, there's a safe house down this alley.
After surviving the Crescendo Event, Snowden, Zoey, Francis and Louis enter and lock down the safe house in the shop.
Snowden: Get in, I'll cover you.
Zoey: Everyone inside.
safe house door closes*
Snowden: First step to victory. Nicely done, guys!
We're safe... for now.
