Sonic in Between.
Author's Note: Another story within a story, except this time it's more of a flash-back kind of thing, and well, more Sonic X characters make an appearance which they may also be part of an eventual rewrite of Sonic Adventure linked into my "Sonic and the Werehog" verse, and it's based on one of the issues of Sonic X Comic. Well, two since it's a two-parter.
And yeah...I'm still in an odd giant mood. *Shrugs sheepishly*
Summary of Story 4-part 1: Arriving in a town while continuing their Isalenna adventures, Sonic and Tails meet up with another old friend whom they haven't seen since the Chaos Crisis, while meeting another friend who is interested of a certain big story...literally!

Sonic Tales: "Vector-zilla!"-Part 1
Five days have passed since Sonic and Tails saved the town of Tesrod Village, and since then continued their Isalenna adventure. They ventured into four more places of the large continent, such as places like Stembor City which was the home of the famous Chili Dog Restaurant which the heroic hedgehog looked as though he'd died and gone to heaven, Lilycove Zone which was a huge beautiful forest with magnificent trees and flowers, and lakes with giant Lily-pads even though Sonic avoided said lakes due to his aquaphobia, Gemstone Cave Zone which was a tunnel filled with Gems of various colours and shapes, and just yesterday they visited Brave Canyon that looked like the Grand Canyon mixed with a fern forest full of greenery and waterfalls.
Right now, the two adoptive brothers were in Fernfield Town, a place that is a bit of a mixture of Station Square and green hills that reminded Sonic of Green Hill Zone on South Island where he was born and grew up in until he was eleven. During their tour, they were now standing waiting in cue at the Ice Cream Palor to get themselves some ice cream.
"Hiya!" Sonic greeted the ice cream man, who was a human with thick wavy brown hair in his early thirties, wearing an outfit dressed to make ice cream. "I'd like two double scoops of waffle ice cream cones, pronto, please."
"Oh! Sonic the Hedgehog, and Miles Prower!" The Ice Cream Man greeted, surprised and quickly enthusiastic to see the two young heroes, and, having heard of not just the cobalt teenager's heroics, but also recognizing the two-tailed fox as a hero as well due to his actions with stopping the missile and being Sonic's best friend. "Good day! What kind of flavors would you both like?"
Sonic and Tails were about to answer, but were interrupted when they heard a young boy's voice call out from the left, one that they felt sounded familiar. "Sonic? Tails? Is that you?"
Puzzled and wondering who was calling out their names, the two best friends turned to see, to their surprise and sudden happiness, was a young boy, about thirteen years of age with ginger hair, blue eyes, wearing a white, red and black shirt, blue shorts with shoes, having a happy expression on his face as he ran up to them upon recognizing the two heroes of Mobius.
"Hey, guys!" The boy called out happily, waving.
"It's Chris!" Tails exclaimed happily.
"Hi, Chris!" Sonic greeted, waving back. By the time their friend, Chris Thorndyke, arrived, the former pre-teen approached and to their surprise and the blue hedgehog's startle, picked him up to give him a great big bear hug.
"I really missed you!" The young boy exclaimed happily, inadvertently squeezing Sonic like a teddy bear while the poor teenage Mobian tried to wriggle himself out, crying out and beginning to lose air.
"C-Chris, buddy! L-lemme go! Can't...breathe!" The cobalt hedgehog wheezed within the surprisingly iron grip.
"Um, Chris? I'm sure Sonic's really happy to see you, but you're squashing him." Tails spoke up with a sweat-drop, coming to his older brother's rescue. Thankfully, the boy got the message and, seeing that the aforementioned hedgehog looked like he was about to pass out, he quickly loosened his grip and put Sonic down, much to the young hero's relief.
"Heh, I know that you're glad to see me, bud, but I can't get anymore blue than I already am." Sonic commented, naturally joking but more than grately relieved.
Chris rubbed the back of his head apologetically with a sheepish grin. "Sorry, Sonic. It's been so long, I haven't seen you for ages. I've been hearing stories all over the place."
"No problem. It's great to see ya'." The blue hedgehog replied, and smiled wider when his two closest friends then shared a hug similar to Chris's one to Sonic himself.
"Hey Chris, I thought you moved to Westpolis before it was evacuated." Tails suddenly recalled.
"I did, but Grandpa brought me here for vacation, especially since Mom's visiting my Aunt, and Dad's gone with. Not that he was looking forward to it. I would've gone too, but it's for a High School Reunion, so here I am." The newly dubbed teenager explained. "We're actually gonna head home tomorrow, actually."
"Well, I guess it's a good thing we're here for today too, 'cause me and Tails are exploring the entire continent on another adventure: Eggman-Free." Sonic stated with a wide smile.
Even though Chris always had faith in Sonic's optisim and happy-go-lucky personality, the young boy couldn't help but say worriedly. "But what about Eggman? Aren't you worried that he might attack again back at Station Square or something? I heard news that things went crazy over Tesrod Village the other day."
Sonic, realizing that his human friend, whom like Tails, he's been pretty close to ever since he first arrived in Station Square a few months before the Chaos Crisis and had decided to make it as one of his living places, had no idea what transfered in the last two months, shrugged sheepishly as even now he still felt unsettled over Eggman's death.
"Actually, pal, Eggman wasn't even there when that happened the other day. In fact, you won't be hearing from him ever again. Thing is, his recent taking-over-the-world plan backfired on him so hard that he finally died and, well, I had to save the entire Universe from that Egg-shaped loser." Sonic replied.
"Huh!? Eggman's gone?" Chris exclaimed, shocked to hear the news. While he never liked or trusted the evil doctor given the horrible things the man did, it was still unbelievable.
"Yeah, he's been gone for almost two weeks now. The story behind it is pretty crazy and his ending result is...well...I don't wanna ruin anybody's appetite, since even now I'm still having trouble believing it myself since I've seen it happen, and I couldn't do a thing to save him despite that he would've gone back to coming up with another rotten egg plan as usual." The blue hedgehog explained, a little more than a bit uneasy.
"Whoa...I never thought that would eventually happen to him. I kinda always thought he'd eventually give up and retire or something, even though the retiring part probably would've never happened." The thirteen year old remarked, still shocked.
"Neither did we, and that adventure was really crazy, but at the same time exciting for most parts, too." Tails agreed.
"Yeah, it was pretty cool." Sonic smirked, adding as he closed his eyes knowingly. "But you know what they say; there's no place like your home planet."
"Wow, I didn't think Sonic and Tails were here too! No wonder you ran of like that, Chris." A young girl's voice spoke up, causing the three boys to look and saw her in person; she looked similar to Chloe back at Tesrod Village, but was wheelchair bound as she approached. Again, the two Mobians recognized the child.
"Sorry 'bout that, Helen. I just couldn't help it." Chris replied, sheepishly.
"Hey, Helen. Long time no see." The blue hedgehog greeted.
"You're here on vacation too?" Tails asked, excitedly as Helen, one of Chris' friends and former classmate, wheeled herself over with a warm smile.
"Not exactly. My Mom and Dad brought me here to visit my Grandma for a week. Chris and I have been hanging out before he has to go back home tomorrow." Helen explained kindly. "But I didn't know you and Sonic were here too, Tails."
"Well, we just got here today and we're exploring Isalenna on another adventure." The eight year old fox explained, rubbing the back of his head.
Sonic then had an idea and remembering that they were kind of keeping other costumers waiting at the ice cream, announced. "This calls for an Ice Cream hang-out!"
While his friends were puzzled at first before realizing what he was doing and smiled happily, the blue hedgehog apologetically turned to the man who, waiting somewhat impatiently but was smiling over the friendly reunion displayed which he thought was sweeter than the frozen treat, smiled as the teenager re-ordered his order.
"Sorry about that, but let's make that four Ice Cream cones for me and my best buddies." The blue hedgehog apologized and requested.
"Sure thing, Mr. Sonic! What kind of flavours would you kids like?" The man replied.
"Double Chocolate for me, thanks." Sonic answered.
"Can I have Mint Chocolate flavoured please?" Tails requested.
"Make that two Double Chocolate, please!" Chris answered excitedly.
"I would like a Vanilla Scoop and Strawberry Scoop, please." Helen replied.
"Comin' right up!" The man said and got set to make the request ice cream cones.
Fifteen minutes later after they got their Ice Cream and Sonic paid with extra change, the four friends headed for the park and seat around the picnic bench which was also accessible for those in wheelchairs, enjoying their frozen treats as the two Mobians recounted their recent adventures to Chris since he had moved away not long after the Chaos Crisis but before the Space Coloney ARK incident.
"I can't believe that Scepter had put a curse on Tesrod for 400 years." Chris remarked as his two best friends finished recounting their most recent adventure, which to him clears up the news that he's heard.
"You and me both, dude." Sonic chuckled, sitting on the opposite end of the table with Tails next to him. "At least the curse is finally broken."
"Well, it's not like it's the first time there was a growth problem." Tails half-teased, licking his ice cream.
"Yeah, except that time there was no magic involved. At least not in a flashy kinda way." The blue hedgehog pointed out with a shrug.
"I remember you telling that story one time during a phone call. Sure glad Vector made it out okay." Chris sighed in relief.
"You know, I never got to hear that story." Helen stated, having only heard a little bit of that event. "You never said anything other than it involved a growth dart."
Sonic, Tails and Chris all blinked in surprise before they realized that she was right. The trio all shared a sheepish look before they turned back to their friend.
"Well...okay. Let's just say that it was kinda like what happened in Tesrod the other day, only it involved some guy not liking Mobians as much even though there's been so much peace and harmony between both us and humans for centuries, apart from Eggman and all. It goes back about two months after me, and the gang helped Shadow who stopped stopped Black Doom." Sonic began to recount.
Sometime ago: Two Months after the events of "Shadow the Hedgehog"...
"It was a usual day at Station Square, where everything turned out just fine at first, everybody going about their usual daily lives, that sort of thing. But as usual, Eggman attacked to try and build his Egg Empire with another lousy giant robot. I came in to save the day. What I didn't realize is that somebody else was out to get me. Okay, maybe I knew who it was, since there were a group of 'Sonic-Critics' in town who didn't like me or any Mobians at all." Sonic continued.
"Aren't they the same group who thought Mobians were aliens?" Chris asked, blinking as he recalled something.
"Yeah, there was this one guy who thought our ancestors came from Space, but everybody knows it was the Chaos Emeralds that created our kind." Tails nodded and explained.
"I learned that in history class, how the Chaos Emeralds evolved your ancestors into the very first Mobians who learned to live together with people. Well, human people, I mean." Helen recalled.
"My Uncle Chuck told me that too when I was a kid. Anyway, I guess they were coming up with the very problem behind everybody's backs before they finally got arrested for trying to fill people with lies and trying to frame me." Sonic continued explaining.
Hidden somewhere within Station Square in a secret organization headquarters, were a group of people who, unlike most of Mobius, especially in the city, disliked Mobians and believed they should not live in peace with humans despite that Humanity and the Highly-Anthropomorphic animals have done so for thousands of years, but there were some Mobians who disliked humans as well, but again it was a rare occurance since both sides saw each other as equals most of the time.
They were known as the Society for Observing and Neutralizing Inter-dimensional Creatures and Xenomorphs, or short for S.O.N.I.C.X, believing that Mobians are aliens that have arrived on Mobius about ten millennia ago and lived in peace, disregarding the true history that some of the animals had mutated by the power of the Chaos Emeralds and both they, coming to be known as Mobians by humanity's earliest ancestors, and humans themselves have come to learn and understand each other and had since lived in peace and harmony, treated as equals while normal animals, coming to be known as Mobinis by Mobians at some stages, lived as normally between both.
Plus, the terms of Xenomorphs was never proven since this was wrongly theorized by one man who, once a well respected scientist, was fired and left to rot. He along with others who hate Mobians were taken in and thus formed S.O.N.I.C.X to try and prove to humanity that the animals cannot co-exit with them, by waiting their time to take down the young Mobian who they believe is the cause for the three incidents in their society; Sonic the Hedgehog, hero of Mobius.
"My patience is nearly spent! I rescued and united you all to stop Sonic! It's bad enough our group's name sounds like a fan club!" This was spoken by the silhouette of a man via video link of the main meeting room, and he wasn't happy. Since the disasters of Chaos, the Space Coloney ARK and the Black Arms, he came to believe that Sonic had lead the evil scienist Dr. Eggman to cause all the problems and thus wants the teenager to be taken down.
One of the members, along with others, gulped nervously as he stuttered. "I-I'm sorry! O-Once we have enough budget to rename-"
"Save it, Mr. Wise!" The leader shouted angrily. "They say that Sonic has stopped Dr. Eggman's plans for the first time on South Island, but we are the only ones who know that he plotted the ruse to have all Mobians to over-rule humanity! Which was why he arrived in Station Square to continue that evil goal! Do I blame your poor leadership, commander passer? We didn't get far with our last plan since Mr. Dragg here couldn't kidnap the President when those aliens the Black Arms arrived and that Shadow the Hedgehog, the treacherous Professor Gerald Robotnik's evil creation, has destroyed Black Doom and having our people fooled even further!"
"If I may speak, sir." Another man, the scientist who had wrongly theoried of the history of Mobians, spoke up. He was a tallish man in his mid fifties with black short hair, glasses, wearing light-blue shirt, dirty-yellow pants, black shoes and a lab coat.
"What do you have to say. Dr. Narasu?" The Organizer sneered impatiently.
"Most believe that it was the power of the Chaos Emeralds who have evolved the animals to become the very first Mobians, and while there have been discoveries linked to it, I know they are all false, and we are yet to find the remains of the Xenomorphs, but we will find them at the right place. To do that, we must stop Sonic and capture his birthplace, South Island. The idea of exposing Sonic for the monster he is remains in valid. What we need is to focus on him now that Mobius is relatively safe from any further destruction." The man, known as Dr. Kai Narasu, explained.
"What is your plan?"
"We will make proof that Mobians are against humans..." Kai paused dramatically, before pulling out a small vial of purple liquid from his inner lab coat pocket and held it out to show it off. "With THIS!"
An awkward pause as everyone stared at it.
"What's that supposed to be? Grape Juice?" Another man asked, dumbfounded. This caused Kai to slump, dejected.
"This is a highly-viral mutagen!" He explained in annoyance, before recomposing himself and continued, declaring. "One small injection, and Sonic will transform into a monster we know him to be!"
This seemed to interest the Organization as he murmured. "Hmm...This holds some promise." He then turned his attention to a man in a bike suit attire and ordered him, "Hector, you'll be the driver for this mission."
The man, named Hector Dragg, saluted to his superior as he had once been part of the High Police Squad of Station Square, but due to his reckless driving, he was eventually fired, thus he ended up here. Plus he didn't like the fact that Sonic is the fastest thing alive.
"You got it, boss! Sonic won't know what hit him!" Hector promised.
It wasn't long before he and Kai walked out of the door, in hopes of turning Sonic into a monster that the teenage blue hedgehog really wasn't, but the S.O.N.I.C.X wanted to prove otherwise.
A while later, the two arrived in Station Square, where everything would've been quite peaceful if it wasn't the fact that Dr. Eggman was once again trying to destroy it just so he could take over the world. He was in his Egg Mobile which was attached to another giant robot, the Squidorion 254, which only had six tentacles instead of eight, fighting against Sonic who was easily dodging the robot's attacks while laughing away as he went.
But as the fifteen year old hedgehog was battling Eggman, what they didn't realize was that Sonic is been kept on eye on by both Kai and Hector who were hiding around the corner of a building watching the blue hedgehog, as the scientist was adjusting a what appeared to be a small tranquilizer gun, with six darts that contained the mutagen. Hector leaned against the brick wall with some uncertainty and was skeptical about the whole thing.
"I don't know about this, doctor. This might not be the best time." The biker commented, as he watched the battle raged on from the other side of the buildings.
"Sonic's too fast to shoot at. We need him distracted." Dr. Narasu pointed out, adding as he pointed at the battlefield while aiming the gun at Sonic who was still busy fighting the evil scientist and his robot.. "And you can't get more distracted than this!"
"How much of that Mutagen do you have?" The younger man asked curiously.
"Only enough for six darts, but I only need to hit him with one." Kai responded, aiming carefully to hit Sonic...which he wants really good at.
At the battlefield, Sonic leaped and jumped with somersaults away from Eggman's robot, much to the latter's irritation and frustration.
"Hey, Eggman! Aren't squids supposed to have eight arms?" The teenage hedgehog taunted with a smirk, jumping and leaping as he avoided in getting hit or grabbed, and kicking and Spin Dashing into them as he could, much to the aforementioned evil man's frustration.
"Silence, you meddling hedgehog! Don't tell me how to build my devices of doom!" Eggman bellowed angrily, randomly fiddling with buttons and joint-sticks to just get one hit at Sonic only to keep missing...just like Narasu, having fired four of his darts, only to keep hitting the robot and bounce away, not once hurting Sonic nor did the young hero even notice.
"Whoo! Close one! Getting closer! Missed your chance!" Sonic continued to taunt and dodge with ease. He ran along one of the tentacles before finally reaching the weak spot and curling up tight into a ball, the blue hero used his Homing Attack to smash all the way through the robot in and out, causing it to explode, forcing the now battered and tattered Eggman hover upward in his Egg Mobile which wasn't faring much better.
Kai in the meantime, down with just two, held a look of comical disbelief and looked ready to cry like a big baby, while Hector remarked sarcastically at the man's poor gun-shooting skills. "Zero to four, doctor."
Back with Sonic, who landed on the road in style, grinning at his handiwork, and Eggman, the evil scientist growled and threatened as he began to fly away. "Next time, Sonic! Next time! I'll get you!"
"Yeah, yeah. I've heard that before." Sonic said nonchalantly. Once Eggman was gone, the blue hedgehog dusted his hands off while saying to himself proudly. "All in the day's work. That Egghead never learns."
Apparently, Kai didn't either, and being a scientist himself, he was frustrated that he kept on missing. Hissing to himself and having a personality almost the same as Eggman's, the man aimed carefully with Sonic within his range, the cobalt teenager fully unaware.
'That's it. Now, hold still, you parasite of an animal.' Kai thought to himself. Chuckling under his breath, he aimed and fired...
Just seconds after Sonic dashed off to leave the scene and the dart hit a trash can which reflected and flew straight back to Dr. Narasu who, realizing what happened and his eyes widened in horror, screamed girlishly before ducking just in time as the dart nearly hit him, but landed firmly into a brick wall before shattering. All the while the blue hedgehog was already too far away.
"Five down, one to go." Hector clapped sarcastically.
"Augh! That blasted hedgehog! Why can't he just hold still!?" Kai ranted, pounding the top of the trash can he'd been hiding behind, then turned to Hector and shouted urgently. "He's getting away! Hurry, Hector! After him! We have to follow and make sure the last shot counts!"
Hector scoffed, smirking as he placed his helmet on, saying to himself while climbing onboard his bike. ""Hurry" he says."
Kai takes a seat behind him quickly and held on, only to flinch and scream in fear as his companion did a wheelie with his motorbike, nearly hitting a couple of people walking by and taking off to find and catch Sonic the Hedgehog. The doctor though wasn't taking a liking to this fast ride, panicking like a girl.
"Not so fast, not so fast!" The doctor screamed hysterically, holding on for dear life as he tried not to fall while wishing to be in a nice, safe car that had seatbelts.
"We'll lose him otherwise!" The motorcyclist pointed out, putting the pedal to the metal, ignoring Kai's screams and dashed faster, leaving behind a large trail of engine smoke and dust.
"Woooooooo! Yeah! Peaceful day and peaceful exciting run after a fight against Eggman! I bet the rest of today can't get any better than this!" Sonic cheered as he sped along the highway, dodging cars and making sure he didn't cause a traffic jam or a crash, and made sure he didn't hit any people who politely excusing himself.
When the roads began to become too crowded, the blue hedgehog recklessly ran and jumped over the vehicles(which didn't crash and the drivers didn't even notice him) before he ran up along the sky-scraper buildings and ran and hopped across the roofs of each building, admiring the exciting scenery of Station Square that was almost fully restored since the Chaos Crisis and the other incidents that followed.
A smile lit up his muzzle as memories of the previous adventures lingered, but he didn't think for too long as he knew that as long as everything was okay, and all of the people, humans and Mobians, including his friends whom had become his family through out the years and days that come and gone, were all safe, it would be a bright future ahead despite the constant threats of Eggman.
But that wasn't anything Sonic the Hedgehog, the young hero of Mobius, couldn't handle. Though the last incident was one of those times that he didn't save the planet. No, this time that honor went to Shadow, his former enemy and now strict but respected rival whom Sonic, despite their rivarly and the black hedgehog's nature towards humans, or pretty much anyone, liked to consider as a valuable ally and friend. Then again, Shadow had went up to defeat the evil alien known as Black Doom who wanted to eliminate all of humanity in the world.
"Wonder how the others are doing? I bet they're all probably doing their own usual thing today." The cobalt teenager thought to himself. He knew that Knuckles was sitll guarding the Master Emerald, and maybe trying to protect it from Rouge. Shadow was off somewhere for a new purpose in life now that he had all of his memories back. The Chaotix might be busy with a case.
Amy...well, Sonic liked her as a close friend and all, but she still had romantic feelings for him, and he wondered if she was either trying to find him like always, or maybe visiting Cream and Cheese. Big was probably fishing with Froggy. So that left Tails who is probably fixing up and rebuilding the Tornado model based on Sonic's downed beloved plane.
'Heh. It was just a plane, anyway. Sure I miss it a whole lot, but planes are replaceable. Friends and families can never be replaced. They're one of the top three most important things about life and I love my friends so much. We've been through so much together. Especially Tails and me.' Sonic thought fondly, thinking about all the good times he shared with his adopted little brother.
Thinking about his two-tailed best friend made him form a wide smile on his muzzle. Surely Tails might be busy, but the eight year old kit was always happy to see the blue hedgehog.
"Guess I'll go pay my li'l bro a visit." The cobalt hero decided.
With that thought in mind, Sonic leaped down from the building and continued speeding back onto the Highway towards the Train Station to meet up with the two-tailed fox. However, as he did, he was unaware that both Hector and Kai, who were still trying to locate the young Mobian, finally spotted him from the higher highway.
'There you are, hedgehog. You don't be getting away so easily.' Hector thought to himself, before wheeling around and drove straight towards the railing of the road, blocking off other vehicles which caused the other drivers who saw this to push onto the brakes and skid to a stop, honking their horns angrily at the biker's dangerous driving.
"AHHH! What are you do-eeeeeeiiing!?" Kai squealed in pure horror as, realizing what was happening and held on for dear life, his companion drove off the side of the roadbridge and down towards the road that Sonic was on using a truck and a car as safety bumps to avoid crashing his bike, and speeding dangerously by the rest of the vehicles, again numerous horns blaring by the drives.
"We're almost at him!" Hector announced, unfazed by his own reckless driving.
"You're a madman! Are you trying to get me killed before we get rid of Sonic!?" The doctor screamed hysterically, whimpering in fear for his life. 'I'm beginning to think that Hector is more reckless with speed than Sonic...!'
"Quit your whining, doctor! Get ready to take your shot!" Hector shouted back, more than tired with his passenger's constant complaining.
The cobalt hedgehog in the meantime continued running and being much more careful with the cars around him as he didn't want to cause an accident, but as he was thinking about seeing his best friend, his sensitive hearing caught wind of the blares of car horns, and even a male driver behind him yelling out, "Hey, watch it! You're gonna hit someone!"
"Huh? Did I cut someone off?" Sonic asked himself, blinking in confusion, thinking that maybe he'd been lost in his thoughts that he caused an accident. Looking over his shoulder to prepare himself to make an apology, what he saw made him realize that he wasn't the cause of the near head-on collision behind him. But two familiar men who were catching up to him rather quickly in his normal speed.
People who had been trying to frame him, and he guessed it was ever since he first came here, or maybe during the Space Coloney ARK crisis, but he had heard rumors that they were the Mobian-haters, not believing in the truth of the origins of Mobians and having come up with their own beliefs they are trying to prove are true.
"It's those S.O.N.I.C.X guys again! My biggest fans!" The fifteen year old Mobian remarked, with a smirk despite the situation, purposely allowing Hector to catch up to him, greeting with a taunt since these guys aren't likeable. "Hey. Hector Dragg, right? Cool. That's a nice little bike you've got. Did you just take the training wheels off recently? I'd love to chat, but I'm gonna go visit someone."
Laughing, Sonic went into full speed, leaving behind a trail of blue blur behind, wooting. His taunt however only served to irritate the biker as he growled angrily.
"Training wheels!?" Hector repeated furiously, hissing as he opened up a small cap which revealed a small red button on his bike. "Think you're so fast!?"
The instant he pushed the button, a power jet behind the bike replaced the normal motor and like a rocket, Hector's motorbike shot off faster after Sonic, while Kai held onto his driver's shoulders screaming as his fear increased, almost being thrown right off. The blue hedgehog, at first thinking he'd outrun his latest enemies, looked over his shoulder and saw that they were catching up. He then noticed a small gun in Kai's hands which made him narrow his eyes, before an idea formed in his mind. Smirking, came to a stop and leaped out of the way, letting the two men drive past him without them even knowing.
"After you!" Sonic offered, watching the two idiots drive before he turned and ran away into another direction to lose their trail.
Hector in the meantime pulled his bike to a stop, and, seeing that Sonic wasn't in front of him, pulled off his helmet in disbelief, and growing excitement, foolishly believing that he actually beaten the teenage hedgehog.
"I did it! I've passed him!" The biker exclaimed excitedly.
Kai in the meantime, feeling disoriented, woozy and ready to faint, wobbled off from the bike and held a hand to his head, as he was the first to point out the problem. "Yes...and now we've lost him."
Flinching in realization and remembering the real reason of this mission, Hector looked back to where they both came from only to find that the doctor was right; Sonic was nowhere to be found at all. The cobalt young hero of Mobius was gone, and it, realizing that Sonic had literally let them pass so that he could escape, Hector sighed in irritation. Dr. Narasu on the other hand was frustrated.
"Blast it, Hector! We almost had him!" Kai shouted, yanking his helmet off and thrust it onto the concrete as it clattered on the ground. He then glared at his fellow worker, reminding him. "Don't forget what Sonic did to all of us! Our plnet has almost been destroyed three times ever since he and Dr. Eggman have showed up!"
"Keep your lab coat on, doctor. I'm not here for revenge." Hector rolled his eyes, sighing as he looked away while folding his arms to his chest, admitting. "Sure, he bumped me to second fastest guy alive, but all I want to prove is that I can be the fastest. I got myself fired from the high police. That was my own fault."
He then turned to the scientist and added, pointing out his flaws. "And YOU thought he was a robot."
"It's not natural for a living being to be that fast! All that talk of Mobians being capable of things no humans or Mobini animals are capable of are just fairy tales!" Kai protested while flailing his arms like crazy. "My research made an air-tight case! He still defies all the rules of-"
"Save it, professor. Sonic's somewhere in the city, and we have to find him." Hector cut him off, deciding that they were wasting enough time as it is, and got back onto his bike. Kai groaned, reluctantly picking up his helmet and putting it back on. Holding on tightly, the older man flinched as his companion drove off back to the way they came in hopes of finding Sonic. "You're oh-for-five, Kai. You've got one dart left."
Kai snarled, holding a tight grip on his gun, determined to hit the blue hedgehog, muttering to himself darkly. "I won't miss this time."
With that, the two drove off back into the heart of Station Square.
"While those two creeps were trying to find me, I went to check up on Tails, but he wasn't home at the time. He left a letter stating that he was out for a little while and wouldn't be back before later in the day, so I decided to head back into the city, my thoughts turned back to the two guys from S.O.N.I.C.X." Sonic continued explaining.
"Where were you, Tails?" Helen asked, curiously.
"I was taking the Tornado V for a test flight and so far everything was working out." Tails replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.
"It's okay, buddy. No biggie." The blue hedgehog reassured, which had his two-tailed fox friend smile softly at him.
"I still find it hard to believe that Hector would drive like that. He's really reckless, I'm surprised he still had his driver's license." Chris remarked, scratching the top of his head in disbelief.
"I don't think he even should have been driving like that." The young girl commented.
"Yeah, it's no wonder the High Police fired him." Sonic agreed. "Anyway, the more I thought about those guys, the more I really started to get concerned. Especially since they didn't like me to begin with."
After evading Kai and Hector, Sonic went back to his original agenda which was to pay a visit to Tails, only to have found that his best friend/little brother wasn't home and wouldn't be for a little while. Despite the disappointment, the teenager understood and decided to come back later. So he went back to running around in the city and focused on the two guys that trailed him earlier.
'What are those guys up to this time? It's not like those creeps to make a scene, and while they're nowhere near has ones for authority as GUN, they're still pretty bad enough, especially since they have a thing for us Mobians. Wonder what it could be? I bet it isn't anything good. Not the way how Hector paid no attention to the safety of other people on the road. I know I'm reckless, but even I wouldn't wanna cause a car crash.' The fifteen year old thought to himself, a concerned frown on his muzzle as he ran through the streets.
As he ran, the blue hedgehog tried and failed to come up with a solution to the problem. It wasn't like he was a detective or anything, but normally he was pretty good in figuring things out. But this was one of those times when he might actually need help. In fact, the moment he thought the word detective, the cobalt Mobian came to an idea and nodded to himself. He knew exactly who to turn to.
"If I'm going to find out what those guys are up to, I might as well turn to the pros!" Sonic decided, and raced throughout the city to find the exact place.
He skid to a stop not too far from the small detective agency office building in the middle of the city, one which not only acted as the main base for his friends the Chaotix, but in most cases also acted as the trio's home. Last time Sonic saw them was during the Black Arms invasion and they had been a huge help in helping Shadow to learn of the truth of his creations, the guilt that Eggman's grandfather Gerald Robotnik, thanks to the video link. Otherwise Mobius would've been history.
Sure they started off as a bit of rivals since Sonic did most of their work unknowingly, but he trusted them enough to consider them as his friends. Part of the growing family. Besides, Vector, Espio and Charmy were family to each other and not just co-workers or friends. Like Sonic had done with Tails, Vector and Espio brought in Charmy as their own since the little Mobian Bee was also an orphan.
"Hope they're in. Since they're the only detectives around, I guess the Chaotix would be pretty busy." Sonic said to himself as he walked up the small steps and knocked on the door, which opened after the second knock. To his surprise, a very tired looking Charmy answered, looking as though he'd just woken up.
"Sorry, Sonic. Vector says we're not in right now, and it's not because we're napping." Charmy yawned, and, not realizing that he wasn't meant to answer, just simply yawned and did a bit of a fib. As the six year old bee yawned again, Sonic broke the fourth wall by shrugging at the readers/viewers with an awkward smile. Well, at least they were home.
"May I come in?" The blue hedgehog asked, turning back to the youngest detective.
"*Yawn* Okay..." Charmy yawned again, flying back in with Sonic following and as it turned out, all three detectives have been sleeping. Probably without costumers for today and were obviously waiting for a case. Well, the fifteen year old wasn't going to disappoint them. Even if Vector was snoring in his chair behind the desk, and Espio was meditating, meaning that he wouldn't suspect a thing.
Until now.
"Hey, guys." Sonic greeted with a wave, which instantly and violently startled the other two Chaotix wide awake as they gave out cries of alarm.
"Waugh! The check's in the mail!" Vector exclaimed, before recognizing the blue hedgehog and sighed. "Oh, Sonic. Didn't expect to see ya today."
"I was meditating!" Espio grumbled in annoyance, as he hated being interrupted rudely while he was meditating. He wouldn't mind if people would've woken him up either by gentle tapping on the shoulder or at the very least pay for an alarm clock.
The blue hedgehog shrugged sheepishly. "Sorry to wake you up."
The crocodile of the group grumbled, standing up as he began to proclaim. "It might look like sleep to the untrained eye..."
"I've got a case for ya'." Sonic interrupted, which got the trio's attentions as they stared at the fifteen year old hedgehog in surprise and disbelief. He had a case...for them? This was the first time the teenage hero of Mobius(despite the fact that Espio was the same age as Knuckles) had actually come to them with a case.
"For us?" The purple chameleon inquired as he stood up, blinking.
Sonic nodded, and explained firmly, quickly getting into business. "There's a couple of those S.O.N.I.C.X guys trailing me. I could use a hand figuring out what they're up to this time!"
Like everybody else, the Chaotix were well aware of the organization's bad habits as of late and their hatred for animals, especially Mobians. Their prime target to falsely prove that Mobians and humans should not live together was the teenage hedgehog who had been the hero of the planet for four years already. But if Sonic needed help in figuring out what the creeps are up to, Vector, Espio and Charmy realized that he came to them for help since they were best guys for solving cases.
"We'll take the case!" Vector readily agreed, shaking hands with Sonic who smiled gratefully and the teenager thanked him.
"Yay! We got a case!" Charmy cheered happily, and flew around celebrating for finally getting another case after several weeks without one. He couldn't wait to get started. Sonic chuckled at the young bee's enthusiasm, while Vector shrugged and Espio leaned back as he tried to tell their youngest member to chill out.
But as the four Mobians were talking inside the building, little did they know that hiding around the corner of another building straight at the window where Sonic and his detective friends were standing nearby, Hector and Kai have finally found their target and the latter was hiding behind a trash can, concentrating hard with his gun, focusing on not to miss this time. The former on the other hand, leaned against the wall with his arms crossed as he felt a case of deja vu.
"Where have I seen this before?" Hector muttered sarcastically. He had a feeling that this wasn't going to work either and the whole thing was not only a failure, but a complete waste of time.
"Quiet! I'm trying to concentrate!" Kai hissed, his eyes focused as he aimed and waited. "I just have to wait for the perfect moment..."
The moment Sonic was in clear view, fully unaware of the serious danger he was in, Kai opened fire his very last dart and grinned...only to gasp and his jaw dropped when suddenly Charmy flew into view in front of the blue hedgehog while continuing to happily cheer for a new case to work on.
"A case, a case! Whee! A case!" Charmy sang happily, flying and buzzing around the room.
"OH NO!" Kai screamed, dropping the gun and placing his hands on his head as he knew what was going to happen. "Come on, that was my last dart!"
The dart crashed right through the window, shattering the glass which got the attention of Sonic and Espio, while Vector was about to get started before he heard the noise and turned just in time, the two teenagers gasping as they saw the dart fly at the six year old Mobian who was the only one unaware.
Fortunately, thanks to his helmet, the dart bounced off it, but it did make his head rattle and shake, causing him to exclaim in mid-cheering. "A-hey!"
The dart then bounced off the side of the file cabinet and straight towards Espio who quickly used his Ninja Reflect, holding up his arm and his gaunlet caused it to bounce off away from him and it flew lower to the floor...and fully unaware to everyone, it hit a target, but not it's intended one. It struck at onto a scaled green tail close to the backside of Vector who, not realizing he'd been hit but felt something sting him, flinched in pain before he suddenly began to feel really off, woozy and really strange that made his face screw up, his eyes swirling and going all funny like as though he was hypnotized. The liquid of the mutagen flowed into his body like a vaccine until the dart was bone dry.
Sonic, shocked at the sight of the unusual dart which he thought was a tranquillizer to put him to sleep or something, turned his attention to the window and found the very two people that were chasing him earlier and at the sight of a small gun that was dropped made him realize that they were really up to something. Either to kidnap him or not, he wasn't sure and, unaware that the dart hit Vector, was relieved that no one got hurt or killed, but was also angry with the dangerous tatic.
"That's it! Enough's enough!" Sonic hissed, clenching his fist before racing out of the door to question the two morons that tried for weeks to frame him and then give them a piece of his mind.
A moment of semi-silence filled the room as Charmy shook his head to rid the dizzy spells, Espio smirked to himself. "Well, at least nobody got hurt, right?"
Boy was he wrong, because the moaning sound from the Mobian Crocodile got the Chameleon's attention as the teenager looked up at the twenty year old, finally noticing the funny expressions he was making. "What's up with you?"
Vector didn't answer, as he felt as though he was about to pass out but didn't look it, as though he was being mind controlled, his insides screaming and his whole insides and out feeling like they were swelling up. It wasn't until the youngest Chaotix finally noticed the dart but didn't know what it was.
"Hey, Vector. What's that little fluffy thing on your butt?" Charmy asked, pointing at the dart.
Espio caught wind on what the young bee said and looked to see himself. His eyes widened as he softly gasped and he sweat dropped, muttering worriedly. "Uh oh..."
"Why "Uh-oh"?" The six year old asked in confusion.
Before his friend could answer, however, Vector gave out a low growl of that of a Mobini-Crocodile, and when the two looked back at him, his entire body gave off this purple colour of aura which surrounded him. The next thing the two knew, their friend suddenly began to grow, getting taller and taller by the second. Espio and Charmy, unable to believe what was happening, stepped back in shock to avoid in getting crushed by the sudden growth of Vector, his height growing rapidly.
"Wha-what's happening!?" Both Episo and Charmy exclaimed simultaneously.
Meanwhile, back outside, Kai was on his knees pounding the ground in frustration as he wept pathetically, crying as he let out the waterworks.
"I can't believe it! That was my last dart! My plan is utterly ruined! I'm so humilated!" The doctor sobbed.
"And I'm getting pretty embarrassed with you crying like a baby." Hector sighed in exasperation, not at all surprised as the plan was another failure. Just as he looked to the side, however, he flinched as instantly he saw a fast and very angry Sonic the Hedgehog run up towards them. The biker flinched and before he could warn Kai, he and the doctor, who stood up, were quickly pushed and shoved against the brick wall hard by the surprising strength of the teenage Mobian, who was known for his speed while Knuckles the Echidna was known for his strength.
"All right, you two! I've just about had it! Fun is fun, but somebody could've been hurt!" Sonic yelled, holding the two men by the shirts in one hand each to make sure none of them got away.
"Hmph! That's the point, villain!" Dr. Narasu responded darkly even though he held his hands up in surrender.
"Whatever." The blue hedgehog grunted, growing tired of being treated like he was the bad guy, but shoved the desire to protest that he'd never hurt anybody aside for the time being and got straight to the point. "What were you two up to?"
Before Sonic could get an answer, the ground suddenly began to rumble violently as though there was an Earthquake happening. The young hedgehog looked around in sudden nervousness as he wondered what was going on now. He hoped that nothing else terrible was happening as he and Hector, who also wondered what was happening, tried to keep their balance just as a loud roar filled their ears.
"W-what's that!?" Sonic exclaimed, nervously. Kai, instantly knowing what happened after realizing that his latest creation seemed to hit a target after all, gazed at the Detective Agency and while not what he had in mind, grinned evilly as it actually worked.
"That, is what we were up to, hedgehog." The doctor declared, pointing at the building. Both Sonic and Hector looked, gasping in shock and in the teenager's case, disbelief and horror as Vector the Crocodile, suddenly much taller than he had been just minutes ago, crushed his way through the roof with a might roar, acting a bit like Godzilla, his arms all flexed up and towering everyone by at least 45 feet tall, destroying the office and looking as though he had lost his mind.
"V-Vector!?" Sonic screamed in disbelief. He felt frozen in shock, and no small amount of fear as he could only watch helplessly at his friend having grown into a giant. This was seriously like out of the monster movies, and for a moment the fifteen year old wondered and hoped that he was having a nightmare.
Vector, in a daze of the mutagen's influence that made him all confused like a mindless monster, growled before stomping his way out of the ruined building. Sonic was worried about his friend, but terrified with a thought that the detective had lost it, trying to keep his balance did both Hector and Kai who, realizing that his wrong target may be attempting to stomp onto him, screamed girlishly and covered his head with his hands, whimpering. Thankfully, the giant crocodile walked past them, leaving behind crater-like footprints on the ground and made his way into the city.
Sonic saw this and gasped in horror, his eyes widening and his emerald green pupils shrinking and shaking as he realized what was happening. "He's heading straight towards Station Square!"
"Congratulations, doctor. You just doomed the whole city." Hector remarked sarcastically, mockingly patted Kai's shoulder as he too was horrified of the destruction that was happening, putting everybody's lives in grave danger.
"At first I could only watch in horror at what happened to Vector. I couldn't believe those S.O.N.I.C.X guys made something so dangerous that it put people's whole lives at risk, all so to make me a monster that I never was and never will be. I knew then that if I didn't do something to save him, nobody was safe." Sonic continued, and there was much more to the story he had left to tell.

A/N: This is based on Sonic X Comic issue 38, the first part of the "Big Trouble in Little Station Square-Part 1" with the next chapter based on part two(issue 39). It's a pity that this was left out of the anime, because this has so much potential to be on tv instead of a comic book.
