Hey guys! Sorry it's a bit later today, I'm not feeling my best.
OneLittleSpark18: Why come is my new favorite thing. The answer is...I don't know? I don't know why I do this. And uh...maybe?
I'm so excited to share this chapter.
Mando'a translations at the end!
TW: torture aftermath
"Mer'ika!" Kal cried and forced his tired looking son into a tight embrace. Mereel had just disembarked from the stolen Kaminoan shuttle and was blinking in Coruscant's bright sunlight. The other NULLs, Bardan, and Etain stood back. "Are you hurt? What did they do to you? How the hell did you get away?"
"I'm okay, Kal'buir." Mereel said, patting Kal's back. "They never caught me. Just made it damn impossible to get any messages out."
Kal heard Prudii snort behind him.
"Yeah, right Mereel." Prudii said. "I bet I could have cracked their code in a rotation."
"Yeah?" Mereel said. "You learned to grow fishy DNA, did you? But Kal, I have some info-"
"Not now, son." Kal said. "You look exhausted."
"I'm fine." Mereel said. "It's pretty important stuff."
"What is it?" Kal asked with a frown.
Mereel glanced at Etain and Bardan as he shifted in place.
"Well, apparently there's a Force sensitive cadet on Kamino." He said.
"What?" Kal's voice was joined by several others.
"Yeah, that clone you told me about, Rex, is training a squad of littles. One of them can do some Jedi stuff."
"Kal-" Etain said.
"I know, Et'ika." Kal said with a frown. "Don't worry, we won't leave the kid there."
The Kaminoans had a nasty habit of killing troopers they couldn't control. That included Force sensitive ones. Kal had only learned of the practice recently, and well, even if he had known, there hadn't been much he could do about it.
"Rex told me to tell the Jedi." Mereel went on. "Though honestly, I think we could just grab him and give him to Bard'ika to train or something."
"Sounds like a good opportunity." Bardan said.
"No." Kal said. "No, we have to tell the Jedi."
"What?" Etain said. "Kal'buir, you know what they've been like lately. They won't risk doing anything."
"For a Force sensitive?" Kal asked. "Their numbers were cut by a lot during the war. They'd probably take any Force sensitive kid they find."
He turned to the others and grinned at them.
"Besides, I think this might open some eyes."
Plo Koon ran through the Jedi Temple, dodging padawans and Jedi Knights. The news he had just received was pounding in his head. The Council could not deny even this.
Most of the Council was gathered when he burst through the chamber's door.
Master Windu immediately frowned at him.
"Master Plo, what is the meaning of-"
"There is a Force sensitive child on Kamino." Plo cut across Master Windu.
Shock rippled in the room from the members.
"-A Kaminoan?" Master Rosan sounded almost hopeful.
Plo felt far more pleasure than he should have as he replied.
"No." He said. "A clone."
There was silence.
"Impossible." Master Rosan said. "How do you know this? From the mouth of one of the creatures themselves?"
"Yes." Plo said. "From Captain Rex. I know him to be a man of integrity."
He looked to Master Yoda, hope thrumming in his chest. Master Yoda was staring at the ground, brows furrowed.
"Join us, Master Plo." He said. "Find the truth in the Force, we will."
The other Masters closed their eyes and Plo did the same. He stretched out his senses in the Force, letting it guide him to Kamino. He recoiled at the suffering and grief that soaked the planet. He felt the other Masters' presences and tried not to revel in their shock and discomfort at the planet's condition.
There he was. A child, just over three years old. Terrified, but so very bright in the Force. He heard gasps around him.
"It is true." Master Windu said. "I- had not thought it possible."
"We have made a grave mistake!" Master Fisto said. "Not just for the boy. I have rarely felt suffering to this degree."
"I agree." Master Windu said slowly. "We have been blind."
"Masters, we must consider what it could mean if we took in one of the creatures!" Master Rosan protested.
"And did you not sense the Darkness hidden within the boy?" Master Mundi added.
"Is it not surprising that the boy has turned to that path?" Plo asked. "Can you not feel the fear permeating that planet?"
"How is he to learn, if we do not help him?" Master Fisto said.
Plo turned his gaze back to Master Yoda. It was up to him. The little green Master shook his head.
"Too far, we have gone." He said. "Turned a blind eye we have to the suffering of the clones."
"Master-" Master Rosan started.
"Enough, Master Rosan." Master Windu said. "This matter is up to Master Yoda's decision."/change
"Trusted my first feelings, I should have." Yoda mumbled. "Individuals in the Force, they are. Deserve our help and compassion, they do."
Most of the other Masters were nodding in agreement.
"Chancellor Amidala, we must contact." Master Yoda said. "Keepers of the peace we are. Peace for the clones, we must seek."
Plo bowed his head.
"Thank you, Masters." He said, his voice breaking.
Tears began to fill his goggles and he wept.
His boys were coming home.
Ahsoka leaned forward, hands clasped in front of her mouth. She tried to focus on her surroundings and not on the fear roiling in her stomach. Mereel had said it was likely that Rex had been caught in during the NULL's escape. She knew all too well what that could mean for Rex.
Stop. She told herself and concentrated on her surroundings. She could feel the rumbling of the hyperdrive beneath her, taking the ship too slowly to Kamino. She could feel the hard seat beneath her. She could feel Kix's hand on her shoulder. She could hear the quiet breathing of the other troopers Obi Wan had sent to them. They had been glad to accept the task of helping bring their brothers home.
"Calm down, Commander." Kix said softly. "You're as tense as a shiny before his first battle."
Ahsoka glanced at him. He was ashen, looking forward. His other hand was clenched on his knee.
"We can't do anything about it." He said. "We just have to wait."
Ahsoka nearly laughed at that. It was a two day journey to Kamino. She'd had her fill of waiting. Though she was lucky that Padme had sent her to represent the Chancellor's office. It would have been much worse waiting on Coruscant.
"He could be dead, Kix." She whispered. "Eight days is a long time for them to hold him."
"But we don't even know if he was caught." Kix said.
Ahsoka shook her head. She had a horrible feeling about this.
Once again she tried to force something through their broken bond, but it had been severed too long.
Please, Rex. She begged in her head regardless. Please be alive.
Jesse was worried. Rex hadn't been in the mess hall since Jesse had returned from his short deployment. The first day he had assumed that Rex had simply skipped lunch or something. The second he began to wonder. The third was when he got really concerned.
The fourth he decided to do something. He had the name of Rex's squad: Kilo, and that they were three. He knew where the three to four year old's mess hall was, so that day, instead of eating, he made his way there. It wasn't likely he'd be noticed.
He entered the mess hall and couldn't help but think of his Gia when he saw all the round faced cadets. He shook himself and made his way to the nearest trainer who was a brother.
"Hey, vod." Jesse said as casually as he could. "I'm looking for Kilo squad."
The trainer raised an eyebrow at him before nodding to a group of cadets at the farthest table. One of them was staring at Jesse.
Jesse tried not to seem concerned as he briskly made his way over. Rex wasn't with them, that much was clear. The clone trainer with them looked up as Jesse approached. His eyes narrowed as he studied Jesse's face.
"You're Jesse, right?" The clone asked.
Jesse nodded.
"I'm not sure who you are." He said. "Sorry."
The clone grunted.
"I'm Boil."
Ah. Jesse wasn't too familiar with the 212th trooper, but the grumpy demeanor matched what he had heard of him.
All five of the cadets were staring at Jesse now. He frowned as he noticed their frightened eyes.
"Listen, do you know where Rex is?" Jesse asked in a low voice. "We have the same mess, but I haven't seen him in a few days."
He trailed off at Boil and the cadets' expressions. Boil looked down, while a couple of the cadets looked close to tears.
"Rex is gone." Boil said. "He got himself taken nine days ago."
Jesse felt like he'd been hit by an ion cannon.
"Gone?" He whispered. "No, Rex can't be gone, he's too careful."
Boil gave a harsh laugh.
"He was a hypocrite, that's what he was." He said. "Told me over and over not to cause trouble."
"He's not dead." A quiet voice said
Jesse glanced down at the cadet who had spoken, the one who had been staring at him. He had an odd look in his eye.
"He's- different but he's not dead." The boy continued. "I think you can save him."
"Prime-" Boil had taken on a worried tone. "That's enough, vod'ika. Don't say any more, not here."
"No!" Prime said. "You can save him! You-"
The boy's eyes widened.
"You need to go now." He said. "In the medical wing, room- room-"
He squeezed his eyes shut, face contorted with concentration.
"Room 34-b." He said. "Please, go and save him!"
Jesse stared at the kid, mind racing. How could-
It clicked. He'd seen the Generals and the Commander take on that look. The kid was Force sensitive. Jesse glanced at Boil. His worried expression made Jesse think that he wasn't the only one to come to that conclusion.
"I don't know if I can, kid." Jesse said. "Even if I could get to him, where would we go?"
"With the ships coming to take us away." Prime said. His gaze was faraway.
Jesse shared a shocked look with Boil.
"Prime, you can't say things like that-" Boil said.
"They're coming." Prime insisted. "We're free."
A wave of determination hit Jesse. If the kid was right- if the Republic had finally gotten their act together and freed them-
Then it was time to act.
Boil seemed to notice the look in Jesse's eyes and frowned. Jesse met his gaze evenly.
"If there's any chance I can save Rex," He said. "I have to take it."
Jesse did not know if he could go home to face Rhys if Rex couldn't go home to Ahsoka.
Jesse entered his barracks. Most of his company was here, lounging after lunch before returning to training. Jesse quickly identified the chipped troopers. They sat ramrod straight on their extended pods, waiting for orders. Jesse frowned, but hopefully those who supported his plan would outnumber those forced to reject it.
"Brothers." He called.
Dozens of eyes locked on to him, a combination of curious, confused, and blank.
"It's time." Jesse said.
The longer he could keep the chipped clones off the trail, the better. A murmur spread through the clones listening to him.
"Why now?" One of the older clones, Break, called.
"Because," Jesse said. He prayed that Prime was right. "We're free. The Republic is sending ships to us."
"How do you know?" Another clone, Yup, asked.
"Doesn't matter." Jesse said. "Just know that it's from a reputable source. And that the Kaminoans haven't told us."
It was silent for a moment.
"That information was classified." This voice was monotone. A chipped clone. They hadn't gotten this one's name out of him. "You have committed treason."
The clone made to get up, but the trooper in the pod above him smashed his booted heel into the chipped clone's face. The brother fell back with a dazed expression.
All at once the room burst into motion. Chipped and unchipped clones alike grabbed their training weapons and the barracks turned into a battleground. Luckily, unchipped clones outnumbered the chipped clones by quite a bit. It wasn't long before the stunning bolts stopped shooting across the room.
"Well, it looks like we don't have much choice now." Sargeant Ike said dryly. "What's your plan, Jesse?"
Jesse paused. His main focus had been getting to Rex. But just one company wasn't going to keep things chaotic enough for him to get to his Captain.
"We have to spread the word." Jesse decided. "And get some real weapons."
He saw frowns form on many of the faces around him.
"The stuns on real blasters will last longer than these." Jesse said, gesturing with his training blaster.
"Speaking of which," Yup said. "What do we do with these?"
He nodded towards one of the unconscious clones.
"We can lock them in here." Jesse said. "But we need to get moving now."
The Kaminoans had likely seen the small firefight and had connected the dots.
His brothers nodded and jumped into action. Most of them filed out the door, while others dragged their unconscious brothers to the back of the barracks.
Luckily, there was a weapons locker near their barracks. They were able to slice through the door before any more chipped troopers arrived.
Jesse accepted the blaster he was handed as they were passed out.
"Get to the next set of barracks." Jesse ordered. "I have something I need to do."
He grabbed two of the brothers he trusted more from the company, Hit and Rise, and made his way towards the medical wing. They ran into a patrol of chipped clones, but Jesse was an ARC and unchipped clones tended to have more experience than the younger chipped generation.
Most of all, Jesse was working to save a brother. Every clone knew that you were at your best when you were protecting your vod'e.
The medical wing was eerily empty. Jesse scanned the numbers over the doors as he ran past them. 34-b had to be the one guarded by two troopers. They only had time to jerk their heads up to look at Jesse and the others before they fell to the floor, stunned.
"Keep watch." He told Hit and Rise.
Jesse clicked his blaster to kill and shot the lock. The door slid open. Inside was what Jesse expected to see: a long neck hovering over a prone, naked clone. Rex.
For a horrible, heart stopping moment Jesse thought he was too late. Rex was staring blankly at the ceiling, unmoving. Then he blinked and Jesse let out the breath he'd been holding.
The long neck, Nala Se, looked up with the Kaminoan equivalent of surprise. Jesse leveled his blaster at her.
"Get away from him." He snarled.
Nala Se raised her hands slowly and backed away. Jesse edged his way to Rex's side.
"Your efforts are pointless." Nala Se said. "The reconditioning process is nearly complete."
"Shut up!" Jesse snapped. "Rex, it's Jesse."
Rex's eyes barely flicked over to Jesse before fixating back on the ceiling. There was a collar around Rex's neck. Jesse had seen the like before: a slaver's collar. His stomach plunged. What the hell had they done to him?
Jesse wasted no time in undoing the straps holding Rex down.
"Do you truly believe that you will be able to escape Kamino?" Nala Se asked.
"No." Jesse said, releasing Rex's arm. "The Republic ships will-"
He was cut off by Rex's hand around his throat. The grip was weak, but Jesse was too shocked for a moment to break it.
"You have threatened a superior officer." Rex whispered in a rough voice. "You are guilty of treason."
Jesse eased Rex's fingers off and held his arm down.
"What did you do to him?" Jesse demanded. "Did you put another chip in him?"
"No. That is not possible." Nala Se said. "He has merely been manually reconditioned."
"Manually?" Jesse hissed. "You have a slave collar on him!"
"A necessary tool." Nala Se said. "As for the Republic coming, you are mistaken-"
A comm clicked to life on the console behind her.
"Doctor Se, Republic ships are approaching the planet." A male Kaminoan voice said. "The Prime Minister has requested your presence to discuss the matter."
A surge of triumph hit Jesse as Nala Se stared at the comm. Rex still struggled weakly beneath his grip.
"Stand down, CT-7567." Nala Se said quietly.
Rex stopped fighting against Jesse. Jesse cautiously let him go, but Rex lay back, unmoving again.
"CT-7567 is reconditioned." Nala Se said. "All of his previous traits are gone."
Jesse gritted his teeth and glared at her.
"Get out." He spat.
Nala Se left silently. Jesse watched her go before he returned to releasing Rex from his bonds. Rex was too pale and too skinny. His hair was no longer shaved and was unkempt. He remained stiff and still as Jesse undid the straps. Jesse used one of the surgical lasers on a nearby tray to fry the collar's locking mechanism. He threw it to the side.
"Come on, Rex." Jesse said. "Let's get you out of here, get you something to wear and eat."
Rex did not move.
"Rex, let's go." Jesse said.
Rex turned gaunt eyes to Jesse.
"I have not been ordered to leave this table." He said.
"Rex-" Jesse started before pausing.
Rex had obeyed Nala Se without question. He'd tried to strangle Jesse for disobeying and attacking a superior officer. Maybe he'd listen to a higher ranking clone.
Jesse rushed to the console. To his relief, Nala Se was still logged in. He quickly searched the database for the clone assignments. He found the list of clones in charge of training squads.
There. CC-2224. In charge of the six year olds of Esk Squad. Jesse easily located their assigned training rooms. He rooted around the examination room and found a sterile white sheet. Then he went back to Rex's side and draped the sheet over his shoulders. Rex didn't so much as blink.
"Rex, you stay here." Jesse told him.
Rex didn't respond.
"Don't let him leave." Jesse told Hit and Rise. "Don't let any long necks near him either."
Then Jesse took off down the hallway in search of Commander Cody.
Ahsoka hated Kamino. She hated the rain, the constantly raging ocean, the way you couldn't tell if it were night or day. She hated Tipoca City and she hated its native inhabitants.
She hated especially that men she loved could have died here.
Ahsoka reached out, feeling the hundreds of thousands of men trapped here. She frowned. It was- chaotic, not like the men usually felt. It felt more like a battle.
"Come, Little 'Soka." Master Plo had put a hand on her shoulder.
Master Aayla was right behind them, as well as a squad of troopers. Ahsoka nodded, took a deep breath and followed Master Plo into the building.
As usual, the Force grew heavy as she entered. Too much death, too much fear, too much suffering had happened here. The clean white room belied the chaos Ahsoka could feel from deeper in the city.
"Masters Jedi." A calm voice said.
Ahsoka, Plo, and Aayla turned to see a Kaminoan approaching them.
"I am Administrator Taun We." She said. "I assume you would like to see the Prime Minister?"
"Please." Master Plo said.
"Leave your troops here." Taun We said.
Ahsoka could feel fear and apprehension from the men behind them.
"Don't worry, men." She said. "They have no power over you. They can't hurt you anymore."
Taun We stared back and blinked slowly. She said nothing as she turned to lead Master Plo, Master Aayla, and Ahsoka onward. The place was oddly empty of clones, though Ahsoka thought she caught glimpses of guards down hallways. Ahsoka's emotions were raging inside her, though she did her best to remain calm. Taun We showed them to a round room where Lama Su was waiting for them, sitting in a spoon-like chair.
"Masters Jedi." He said. "I see you have come to take our clones."
"I do not believe that they are your clones any longer, Prime Minister." Master Plo said. "They are free under the laws of the Republic. I have come to ensure you do not inhibit them from leaving."
There was a slight scrunch in Lama Su's expression: displeasure.
"The Republic is willing to offer a contract with the Kaminoans." Master Plo went on. "They would like you to research the cloning of foodstuffs."
Master Plo withdrew a datapad his robes and handed it to Lama Su.
"Here are the details." He said.
"If the Republic was truly concerned about our economic state," Lama Su said after a moment of scanning the pad. "It would not have outlawed our greatest source of industry."
"They are more than willing to help you get on your feet." Master Plo said. "I understand that many of these clones are still under the influence of the inhibitor chip. This process would go much more smoothly if they were ordered to come with us."
Lama Su's hands tightened on the data pad and for a moment Ahsoka thought he was going to refuse. Then he dipped his head.
"Taun We." He said. "Have all clones be ordered to comply with the wishes of the Jedi."
"Thank you." Master Plo said. "May we also have access to your records?"
Lama Su's mouth twisted slightly.
"Yes. But that will be the extent of our involvement." He said. "The rest is up to you. Taun We will give you the access codes."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Prime Minister." Master Plo said.
"My cooperation is bought by a blade to my throat." Lama Su said. "There is no thanks needed."
Ahsoka, Plo, and Aayla followed Taun We out and into the hallway. Taun We approached a terminal on the wall.
"Here are the access codes." Taun We said, handing a data stick to Master Plo.
Plo nodded his thanks and Taun We left them.
"Master Secura." Master Plo said as he stuck the data stick into the terminal. "I must leave you to oversee the majority of the evacuation."
"Of course, Master Plo." She said. "Good luck with our young friend."
Master Plo had been given the specific task of finding and retrieving the Force sensitive child.
"Thank you." Master Plo said. "'Soka, would you like to accompany me?"
"No, Master." Ahsoka said. "I- have to find Rex. I'm sorry, Master."
"That is quite all right, Little 'Soka." Master Plo said, nodding in understanding. "I know why you have come."
She tried to smile at him, but worry and fear were like weights on the corners of her mouth.
"May I?" Ahsoka asked, gesturing to the terminal.
Master Plo stood aside to allow her access to it. Ahsoka was familiar with the Kaminoan database and records, but it still seemed like a long time before her search results came up.
A single designation appeared.
"CT-7567." She whispered.
He was still in the system. He was still alive. He was in the medical wing. Was he all right? Had he been injured in his attempt to help Mereel? Were they for some reason waiting for him to recover before they punished him? It didn't matter. He was alive.
"Go, Ahsoka." Master Aayla said quietly.
Ahsoka didn't need to be told twice. She took off down the hallway. She knew exactly where the medical wing was. She heard a calm voice speak over the intercom, ordering all clones to comply with Republic representatives.
She didn't know why she felt she had to run. It was unlikely that he would be hurt further in this short amount of time, but something drove her to hurry.
She cast her mind out again, now that she had an idea where he was and searched. She found the minds of clones, some familiar, but none with which she had shared a bond.
Ahsoka was now passing clones going the opposite direction. Their surprised whispers chased her down the hallways.
"Is that a Jedi?"
"Commander Tano?"
Part of her wanted to stop and greet the soldiers who knew her, but she had to get to Rex. It took too long to reach the medical wing. There were two troopers guarding a single, open door. That had to be it. Her heart began pounding as she drew closer.
The two looked bewildered as she approached, but made no move to stop or reprimand her. Ahsoka stared through the doorway.
There were three clones within. Two, dark haired and armored, flanked the third. And the third-
Oh, Rex.
How had he lost so much weight? How had he grown so pale? Why was he standing there, naked save for a flimsy sheet hanging from his shoulders, with no trace of shame or embarrassment on his face? Why did it look like he hadn't slept in days? Why was there such an infected, angry burn around his neck?
Why did he look forward with such blankness, nothing behind his eyes?
One of the other clones began to speak. Ahsoka recognized him with a jolt. Cody! And the other was Jesse!
"Rex-" Cody said.
"I am CT-7567." Rex rasped. His voice was rough and quiet, as if he hadn't had water in a few days.
"You just need to sit, okay?" Cody said.
"I will remain standing in the presence of a superior officer." Rex said.
Why was his voice so flat? Though he stood at parade rest, his legs were trembling and he swayed on his feet.
"Rex?" Ahsoka finally said.
Jesse and Cody snapped their attention to her. Ahsoka began to walk slowly into the room. She hadn't felt this afraid since the war.
"Commander!" Jesse said.
"Jesse." Ahsoka said, her eyes still on Rex. "What happened to him?"
"Reconditioning." Jesse said.
He trailed off as he looked at Rex.
Rex was looking through her. His eyes were looking through the doorway as if she was not there.
"Rex?" Ahsoka asked. "Do you know who I am?"
Rex didn't say anything.
"Answer her." Cody said wearily.
Rex began to speak, like a droid told to wait and suddenly given a command.
"You are Former Commander Ahsoka Tano." He said.
"That's right." Ahsoka said.
She took a step closer to him. He was shivering, but let the sheet hang loosely around him. Ahsoka reached forward without thought and adjusted the cloth, pulling it tighter around him.
"Rex." She said again. "Look at me."
He didn't. He continued to stare beyond her.
She reached to him in the Force, but was repelled by sharp edges. It was as if his mind had been shattered and reforged into a wall of thorns. She could feel nothing of him, except a faint trace of pain.
She reached up and touched his face. He didn't react. Ahsoka's heart felt like it was being crushed by a Sith's grip.
"Rex." She repeated. "Please."
In desperation for a reaction, for any sign that he was in there, she kissed him. His lips were cracked and chapped under her own. He didn't press back. He didn't move. His breathing remained even.
Ahsoka pulled back and looked at him. He still stared straight ahead, his gaze unfeeling. There was no flush to his skin, no light in his eyes.
Ahsoka's heart broke into two.
There was a hand on her shoulder.
"Commander." Jesse said.
He tugged gently and she felt herself let go of Rex. Jesse guided her from the room, and she could hear Cody's renewed attempts to get Rex to rest.
"Jesse," Ahsoka said once they were a bit away from the room. "What did they do to him?"
Jesse let out a long breath.
"When I got to him, they had a Zygerrian slave collar on him." Jesse said.
Ahsoka's heart wrenched. She knew all too well how those felt. Rex knew their pain as well.
"You saw his neck. It looks like they were torturing him, as a way of reconditioning." Jesse said. "I don't think he's slept, eaten, or had anything to drink, at least not much. No one could handle that for very long. I think- I think he just broke."
Ahsoka stared at Jesse.
"You don't break." She said. "No, Jesse, you were designed not to break, you can't break!"
"I'm sorry, Commander." Jesse said. "It happens, you know it does. And Rex- he was already under a lot of strain. Don't think badly of him."
"Don't think badly of him?" Ahsoka choked out. "They tortured him!"
Everything flooded over Ahsoka at that moment. Fives' attempt, Echo's near death experience, the stress of the last few months, and now this.
She found herself in Jesse's arms, clutching his back.
"I hate them." She whispered.
She shouldn't hate the Kaminoans. Hatred was a path to the Dark Side. But how could she forgive them? How could she ever consider them with kindness or compassion, when they had none of their own?
"I know." Jesse said as he held her. "We don't have to deal with them anymore. We can take him home. Maybe- maybe that will help."
Ahsoka was sobbing now. She was breaking. She had been strained since she was fourteen years old and now she was finally breaking.
"He loves you." Jesse murmured as he patted her back. "I-I know he does. That can't have just gone away."
Jesse's words were supposed to be of comfort, but all they did was add to the suffering and pain of Kamino.

So. I'm sorry, but not really? I have a rule that any big plot point has to have a consequence. This is the consequence. We'll go into more detail into what exactly the Kaminoans did to Rex next chapter, but for now, this is how it left him.
We'll get a bit happier next chapter with some reunions. My editors say that's why this works. This is in part an extremely good thing. The clones are free and going home. But on a personal scale we have Rex. The moment I decided to have him reconditioned I knew I had to have their first kiss when he wouldn't care. Because pain.
Also, please imagine, when Jesse bursts in to save Rex, the 501st theme playing dramatically. That is how it is meant to be read. Petty Plo is perhaps my favorite.
Anyway, that should be everything. Thanks you guys for sticking around for over a year of posting!
Wear your masks, remember to review, and have a great few weeks!
