Disclaimer: I do not own Hyperdimension Neptunia. I only own my OC Matt and some future OCs that will be mentioned in the future.

Light.

It's usually a source of comfort. Something that can give joy inside of someone's heart. Something that scares away the shadows. A protection against the demons that lurked within the darkness. Light was something that gave hope and gratitude. Yet, Matt couldn't feel anything good coming from the light he was looking at now. In fact, he felt just the opposite:

Dread. Anxiety. Fear.

...Beep...Beep...Beep...

Matt looks away from the lamp overhead and turns his head to his right. A heart monitor was blinking, occasionally spiking up when it detected his heartbeat. Next to the heart monitor was a small table, that had a little tray on it. Matt could see that his glasses were there, alongside a small carton of orange juice. He tried to reach for his glasses, only to feel the uncomfortable feeling of something pulling on his left arm.

He turns to see that an IV that was hooked up to his left arm. The liquid inside the bag slowly, drip from the bag and into the small tube. Matt couldn't help but feel like he was in some kind of solitary prison. The hospital room's small size didn't help either. It made it even more nerve-wracking.

What even happened? How did he even get here? Where was here? All of these questions continue to jumble in his brain. To make it worse, he felt his body was extremely tired and sore. Did he get involved in some kind of accident? Was he robbed? Did he get in a fight with someone?

Matt hears the loud squeak of a door opening.

"You're awake!" a girl said as she came in with a clipboard in her hands.

Matt blinks. Brownish pink hair. White sweater. Red skirt. Odd...That person...No...that couldn't be. Could it?

"I'm glad that you are u-" The girl didn't finish her sentence as she trips and falls flat on her face.

Matt quickly sits up, "Are you okay?"

His heart sank when he saw the small item on the girl's headband. There was a small object that was in the shape of a "C". It reminded him of a slice of pie that, the small piece gone leaving the rest of the pie on it's lonesome.

The detail, however, was way to specific...He- He just had to make sure though.

"Ugh. Yeah I fine. It's good to see your awake." the girl groans as she stands back up.

"I'm sorry. Who are you?" Matt asks.

"Don't you recognize me, Mat-Mat? It's me, Compa." the girl replies.

Matt felt like the inside of his stomach twisted into a tight knot. Compa? As in Hyperdimension Neptunia Compa? No. No. That couldn't be. Compa was from a video game. He could never meet a video character in real life.

...Yet, he couldn't deny it. After all, he was seeing her in person...But, how did she know him? He never met Compa before. So, how did she talk to him so casually like she knew him?

"How do you know me?" Matt asks.

"We're friends silly!" Compa giggles.

Friends? Matt was friends with Compa?

No. No. This just doesn't make any sense! He never met Compa before! He was supposed to be back at his college in his dorm! Not in a hospital bed! He hadn't even left the dorm the last time he checked!

"This can't really be happening." Matt whispers.

Thankfully, it doesn't seem that Compa was aware of what he just said. Matt didn't want to offend Compa. He had nothing against being Compa's friend...just that he wasn't sure how it even happen in the first place.

Compa smiles, "How are you today?"

"I'm not sure...What happened?" Matt asks.

"You don't remember?" Compa asks.

Matt shook his head.

"Nep-Nep will be able to tell you more. You had everyone worried, you know." Compa said.

"Nep-Nep?" Matt asked.

"Neptune."

"I never met Neptune before."

"Silly Mat-Mat! Of course you met Neptune before!" Compa said.

"No. I really didn't."

A few minutes pass by. Compa's happy demeanor slowly changes into a look of concern.

"Do you remember Plutie? Noire? Blanc? Vert?" Compa asks.

"I've heard of the names, but I never met them." Matt said.

This continued for a bit. Each time, Compa would say a few names of some characters from Hyperdimension Neptunia. Each time, Matt would tell her that he never met them. Yes, he heard about them. It was only because he had read about them in some wiki pages and watched some walkthroughs of the games. He never actually came face to face with these characters.

If Compa was worried before, then she was extremely worried now. Her hand holding her pen was trembling.

"How about Uzu-Uzu?" Compa asks. She notices the questioning look and quickly clarifies her question, "Uzume?"

Uzume.

Matt felt his heart race a little. Uzume was one of his favorite characters of the franchise. Like number one favorite. She was strong, smart, and pretty. She was an amazing character.

But again, he never met her in person.

"No." Matt shook his head.

Meeting Uzume in person would have been a dream come true. Yet, it would never have happened in the first place. That's only wishful thinking.

"Oh dear."

Matt watches as Compa bit her lip and continues to write on her document. Matt couldn't help but feel even more worried. What was going on?

"Is there something wrong?"

"Ah, it's nothing. Why don't you take some rest Mat-Mat?" Compa said.

Gently, Compa pushes Matt back onto his pillow. Matt couldn't even muster the strength to resist as his head plops on the pillow. He watches as Compa walks over to the telephone that was perched near the door. She dials in the numbers and waits for someone to receive her call.

"Hello? Hi, Nep-Nep...I have some bad news," Compa said.

Matt tried to listen to what Compa was saying. However, his body had other plans. The soreness and fatigue came unto him like a heavy blanket. The urge to sleep making it much more difficult for him to pay attention to what Compa was saying. However, before he was taken to dreamland, he was able to catch at least one line from Compa.

"...He has amnesia."
