Finally, the long awaited Quidditch game takes place. Dumbledore and the professors barely avoid a riot in which both parents and students would have participated.
CHO VI
They were waiting for the doors to open. They were at the pitch, the seven of them, brooms in hand, ready for the game. They had donned their blue and bronze robes, and were all waiting nervously to be let outside and play.
Cho could feel the pressure building within her. She shivered for a moment, and quickly calmed herself down. She had to focus on Quidditch. Usually, she had no problem doing that. Quidditch was the thing she liked the most at Hogwarts. She just had to feel the pleasure from flying to forget any other worry she may have. Today, however, she wondered if she would be able to manage that. The whole school was still on edge since the events of two weeks ago, when the original match between her house and Gryffindor was cancelled due to Peter Pettigrew penetrating the limits of the school. The two weeks that followed had been hard on Cho. Somehow, the rumor spread that her parents were involved in how this criminal managed to get inside Hogwarts. Some, although they were few, even suspected that her parents willingly brought him inside and were accomplices. Luckily, these were few people. Cho's friends, especially Marietta, along with the rest of the team and most of her house were very supportive in defending her. A fifth year student of Gryffindor once accused her in the corridor, between two lessons, that she was a traitor and that she tried to have their Seeker kill. The mere thought of it sounded ridiculous for Cho, though she wasn't surprised that some people in Gryffindor who lived and breathed for Quidditch could come to think this. Anyway, Jason and Duncan, the two Beaters of her team, quickly pushed him back and made him understand it was better to not threaten her.
Overall, Cho wasn't bothered that much personally. Harry himself didn't think that she or her parents tried to cause him any harm. He told her so when they discussed after the game. Even his mother, who was present when it happened, didn't believe that she was involved, and looked rather worried for Cho. The most difficult were the consequences for Cho's parents. Both her mother and father were under investigation, and had been relegated to administrative duties in her mother's case, or temporarily forced to take a leave in her father's case. Her parents assured her that everything was fine through their letters, but Cho was concerned that they might lose their jobs. And she was also worried to a certain extent that the mass murderer everyone was talking about might be following her or her family. It was actually strange that she and her parents happened to be nearby the two times he tried something on Harry.
The doors opened. The grey light of the day illuminated her teammates ahead of her. Taking a huge breath, Cho chased her personal concerns from her head and mounted her Comet. Roger and the others took flight, with Cho being the last one to enter the pitch under the ovation of the crowd. The fresh air of the morning welcomed her, along with a few water droplets. Despite this, she felt reinvigorated as she flew around the stadium and saw both red and blue robes flying around. She laughed and climbed high before diving and made a swift turn in front of the section where the Ravenclaw students had gathered. She even saw Professor Flitwick, the Head of the house, clap his little hands as she flew by.
"Hello everyone! Welcome to the real match between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor!" The voice of Lee Jordan was welcomed by her ears as if it was music. She felt in her element again. "For Ravenclaw, Roger Davies, Randolph Burrow, Jeremy Stretton as Chasers. Grant Page, as Keeper. Duncan Inglebee and Jason Samuels as Beaters. And Cho Chang as Seeker."
The crowd of Ravenclaws applauded them as Cho made a few loopings.
"For Gryffindor, Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet and Katie Bell as Chasers. Oliver Wood as Keeper. My friends Fred and George Weasley as Beaters. And as Keeper, with the Firebolt that we will finally get to see in action, Harry Potter!"
New cheers came from another side of the pitch. It was hard to judge whether the crowd was more on Ravenclaw's or Gryffindor's side. Cho headed for the central circle. Roger and Wood shook hands while she faced Harry. While seeing him, she thought for a second about Peter Pettigrew's presence, but chased the thought and focused again on Quidditch. The time had come. She would face Harry in a game, and a Firebolt at the same time. She closed her eyes an instant, and silently asked her loyal Comet to not let her down today.
"The Quaffle is released. Let the game begin!"
Cho had reopened her eyes right before Jordan announced it. She watched the red ball rising in the air, and one of the Gryffindor players took it as Cho rushed forward.
"Katie Bell got the Quaffle! She heads for the goalposts ahead! Potter is flying fast on his new Firebolt. This is really the big excitement for this match. Peter Pettigrew should go back in Azkaban just for making us wait two additional weeks to see it in action!"
"JORDAN!"
Cho laughed at McGonagall's outburst. She swung around and started looking for Harry. She found him in no time. She always had a talent for finding things quickly. She wasn't a Seeker for nothing. She accelerated towards the high position where he flew, crouching on her broom and taking the right angle to catch up on him as quickly as she could. She flew right past his nose, and taking a peek over her shoulders, she saw that Harry was forced to slow down. A smile crept on her face as she turned right to follow him, blocking his trajectory once more. But Harry took a sharp turn in the other direction, and Cho couldn't react in time. That's when a Bludger came in her way, and she had to make a big loop to avoid it. She scanned the pitch quickly, seeing no sign of the Golden Snitch. The few drops of water that fell on the terrain in this grey day covered her forehead now. This was good. Harry might have more trouble to see since he wore glasses. Thinking of Harry, she spotted him around the goalposts of her team, right when the characteristic cling resonated across the pitch.
"Alicia Spinnet scores. Gryffindor takes the lead 10-0!" Jordan announced.
Cho flew towards the other Seeker, purposefully cutting through Spinnet's trajectory and forcing her to slow down a little, which could help her Chasers in their counterattack.
"Davies gets the Quaffle… Makes a pass to Stretton… Then to Burrow… Back to Davies… Johnson intercepts…"
Right when her team lost the Quaffle, Cho noticed a change in Harry's trajectory, and her eyes quickly spotted a golden reflect. However, she was too far enough to hope to catch it before Harry… But she could stop Harry from catching it. Cho adapted her trajectory to intercept Harry. And she did. She flew right in front of him at the right moment, breaking his trajectory. When she looked up towards him, she saw that he was looking everywhere, obviously frustrated. The crowd was obviously disappointed from their sighs as well. Cho took altitude to follow Harry from behind, all the while looking around to see if she could glimpse the Snitch.
"Davies arrives in front of the goalposts… And… Oh, Wood stopped it… Johnson gets the Quaffle… A pass to Spinnet… Back to Johnson… But Stretton intercepts in the middle of the field…"
Cho kept taking altitude. She was several feet over Harry, and she dived. Again, she blocked his trajectory, but he turned in another direction, putting distance between them, and she had take altitude again to catch him back.
"Bell takes the Quaffle back… She kicks it in the air… Davies… Oh, he received a Bludger… Johnson takes the ball… She flies straight to the goalposts… She shoots… She scores!"
20-0 for Gryffindor. But they were only at the beginning of the game. Cho managed to get behind Harry once more. He was turning around the pitch, and she remained on his interior side to have highest chances of cutting him if he tried to catch the Golden Snitch again. All the while, she searched for the small ball too, but she couldn't detect it so far.
"Page makes a pass to Davies… The captain avoids a Bludger… And then Spinnet… A pass to Burrow… He avoids Bell… He's losing altitude… A pass up… Davies gets it… But Bell takes it back… And she loses it to Stretton… Another pass to Davies… He sho… No, it's a pass to Burrow… Back to Davies… And he scores. 20-10 for Gryffindor…"
Cho rejoiced internally. Her team was on the scoreboard. She looked towards Harry, who was still searching the Golden Snitch like she did. She had a window to intercept him again. And she took it.
This time, Harry reacted better. He rolled around her and ended behind her. Still, she had managed to break his path again. She was smiling as she kept looking for anything resembling a glitter of gold while Lee Jordan continued with his commentary.
"Wood to Bell… A pass to Johnson… Back to Bell… And then to Weasley… Oh no, my mistake, they're not Chasers. It's Spinnet with the Quaffle now… Back to Bell… Then to Johnson… The girls are really performing today… A pass to… Oh, Davies almost got it, but no, it's with Spinnet again… She's close to the rings… She… No, it was a feint… She passes to Bell… Who… Another feint! No! She scored! Ah! Ah! The girls are making me all lost. 30-10 for Gryffindor."
"Catch the Snitch, Cho!" she heard Marietta shout all of a sudden. She just flew past the crowd of Ravenclaws.
"Burrow recovers the Quaffle… He rushes through the pitch… A pass to Davies… Who gets a Bludger. He lost the Quaffle… But Burrow takes it back… He avoids Spinnet… He's diving… And… He hit the Quaffle with his broomstick… And Wood stops it… Too bad, guys. You're facing the best Keeper of the school."
"JORDAN!" McGonagall shouted. Cho ignored the comment, focusing on both tailing Harry and looking for the Golden Snitch.
"Gryffindor takes back the Quaffle… Wait, Fred and George captured a Bludger…"
Cho looked at the Beaters in red. Indeed, they were next to each other and exchanging a Bludger. Cho knew what it meant. They saw them do it before. And indeed, Wood sent the Quaffle towards one of his Chasers… Only for Roger to intercept it. No one seemed to expect this, for Roger scored quite easily, bringing the score to only 30-20 for Gryffindor.
Encouraged by this new goal, Cho returned to her task at hand. She thought that she saw something, and rushed towards it, only to realize it was the reflection of someone holding a mirror in the crowd. Really, who brought a mirror to a Quidditch game? She noticed that Harry had followed her when he saw her change of direction, but he abandoned the chase before she did.
"Wood makes a long pass to Bell… Oh, Fred and George still have the Bludger… Already in the middle of the pitch… Flying forward… Bell makes a pass to Johnson who is ahead…"
Cho couldn't refrain from looking, and she indeed saw Angelina Johnson at the limit of the scoring area, and the Beaters who were there as well. Grant hesitated, and Johnson shot in a circle he wasn't guarding, probably too occupied that he was to watch the Bludger, which the Gryffindor Beaters hit far away from him anyway.
"40-20 for Gryffindor!" Lee Jordan announced, under the applauses of a large part of the crowd.
Cho avoided a Bludger not long after, and then cut Harry's trajectory once again. Casting a glance at him, she noticed he was irritated, but he reacted much better than Draco Malfoy when she used the same trick against him. Instead of cursing, Harry focused on escaping her and making it as difficult as possible for her to actually intercept him. And he succeeded quite well in that regard. She had to give it to him. The next few minutes resembled a game of cat and mouse, Cho always trailing not far from Harry, trying to hinder his play, and him making life more complicated for her. Cho had to devote more attention to following Harry than to actually search the Golden Snitch. The good news was that Harry certainly had to devote more of his attention to escape her as well. He only succeeded partially. She remained close, preventing him from focusing solely on the Golden Snitch, reducing his speed and freedom in flying across the pitch, reducing the advantages that the Firebolt were giving him.
At the same time, as the game continued, Cho couldn't help but see from her own eyes and up close that he was very good at flying. Until now, she only witnessed it from afar, when she was watching a game where Gryffindor played. Now she experienced it firsthand, and it was quite a challenge to keep up with Harry and cutting his trajectory again and again. And yet, this was challenge she felt up to. It might be harder than Draco Malfoy. It was against a better broomstick and a better player, but she could do it.
Harry accelerated as Katie Bell scored, bringing the score to 50-20. Cho couldn't match his speed. As few rain it could fall, her Quidditch robes, her face and her hair were now damp if not wet. She tried to fly at an advantageous angle, enough to cut Harry's trajectory again, but he changed it before she could and she had to reposition herself higher. And this time, when she dived, she did intercept Harry and forced him to slow down once more. Wood had just stopped a shot from Roger and Gryffindor was attacking once more.
As Harry's and Cho's flying patterns crossed, Grant managed to stop a shot from Katie Bell. Cho's team led a counterattack, which sadly stopped between the central circle and Gryffindor's scoring area when Angelina Johnson took the Quaffle from Roger and flew straight towards the goalposts of Ravenclaw. She avoided a Bludger and Jeremy before she tried to score, but Grant stopped the red ball at the last instant. He sent back the Quaffle to Randolph who got it by a Bludger. The Quaffle was recovered by Johnson as a result, but she lost it to Roger an instant later, who then lost it to Katie Bell. She made a pass to Spinnet who tried to score, to no avail as Grant stopped the red ball once more.
Cho just cut Harry's trajectory again, and she tailed him once more as he took altitude far from the rest of the game. Cho followed him, water droplets hitting her face harder as she climbed. Then, suddenly, he dived so abruptly that Cho barely had time to notice it. She dived as well. He was flying straight towards the ground, almost perpendicularly, and Cho did her best to follow him. He must have noticed the Snitch. This time, however, she couldn't block him. She didn't have an angle to do so. She searched for the Snitch near the ground where Harry was heading. She couldn't see anything. She kept searching as he flew more quickly by the second. Time seemed to slow down around her. Somehow, she managed to reduce the distance between her and Harry. They were getting closer, always closer to the ground. They were only a few feet now…
Harry sharply rose all of a sudden, like a bullet. And Cho did her best to straighten up her broom. Her Comet was not a Firebolt. Its performance was not as great, but it was a great broomstick nonetheless. Thanks to her quick reflexes, she managed to slow down her descent just enough to avoid crashing. She felt her Comet's tail brushing the ground as she took back some altitude, her heart racing. She didn't lose an instant. Harry was flying away, many feet above her. And he was flying fast towards the scoring area of her team. Cho headed towards him, still searching for the Snitch that Harry must have located. However, just as she started to close the distance between them, he abruptly made a turn at one hundred and eighty degrees and headed in the opposite direction, flying past Cho at such a speed that a few strands of her tightly attached hair flew across her face.
Cho turned around as quickly as she could and chased after Harry again, but it was now clear that he didn't spot the Golden Snitch. He made her believe that he did, knowing that she would follow him. He clearly understood at this point what her strategy was, and he decided to make life harder for her. And he kept making it harder. It was as if Harry was pushing his Firebolt to its limits at all times. He flew at full speed, took steep dives and turns, and it was becoming harder for Cho to follow him, and even harder to block him. In the meantime, both teams scored an additional goal, bringing the score to 60-30 for Gryffindor. Cho kept following Harry, now entirely focused on tailing him. She couldn't give any attention to any search of the Golden Snitch now. She was only trying to predict Harry's path.
Grant seemed to be playing the game of his life. He blocked shots from the Gryffindors like he never did, but Oliver Wood returned it in kind, blocking almost all Ravenclaw's attempts that made it past his Chasers and Beaters. Still, Roger finally managed one of his goals with an almost impossible angle, bringing it to 60-40. Cho, in the meantime, thought she could better understand Harry's trajectories. He changed it often, but she finally noticed he had a tendency to turn left more often than right when he changed his path entirely. She also managed to notice that he always made a short and quick movement upwards before diving, which allowed her to anticipate with a fraction of a second in advance any diving.
Another goal had been made by each team, bringing the score to 70-50. Cho could now handle Harry's erratic flying much better. She found an opportunity to cue his trajectory again. But she didn't. Harry's flying slowly became less extreme. Even he couldn't hold this tendency indefinitely. She chose to keep tailing him, in his blind spots preferably, without cutting him. He might lower his guard, and this gave her the chance to look for the Snitch again.
She looked down. Her heart stopped to beat. Her eyes widened. Her lungs took in a huge quantity of air in one whiff. And instinctively, without thinking, she pointed them as her mouth opened and released one of the loudest screams she ever made.
"Oh!"
They were there, again. They were back. Three Dementors, hooded from head to toe, were there, on the pitch, looking up towards her.
"Expecto patronum!"
Cho looked up just in time to see a huge silver shape come out of a wand. A wand that Harry was holding. Still, she barely thought about it and looked as the big shape, which seemed to have horns, rushed towards the Dementors. And they fell down. The silvery shape almost rammed them and they fell apart on the ground. One of the Dementors was cut into two.
"Hey!"
Cho looked up just in time to see that Harry had stopped in his track, and she had to perform a barrel roll at the last moment to avoid. Harry himself moved to the side to avoid her. She just regained control over her Comet when she heard the whistle of Madam Hooch. She looked towards Harry, but he didn't have the Snitch in his hand. He just kept looking to the Dementors who looked like a mass of crumpled back cloaks. Did someone call for a time-out?
"Roger!" she called him. He wasn't far. "Did you call a time-out?"
"No," he replied. Did Wood call one? It might be possible. After all, Harry fell from his Nimbus Two Thousand the last time Dementors showed up at the pitch. He probably wanted to avoid this scenario from repeating itself. And yet, Harry looked perfectly fine. He stood tall on his Firebolt, without a hint that he was about to lose consciousness or anything. Cho then saw Madam Hooch fly down to the ground, where the Dementors were. She saw the referee waving her wand, and thought that a few small black items flew away from the Dementors. Did she remove their hoods? Cho was about to shout to warn their flying instructor, but then she began to hear Madam Hooch screaming, and definitely not out of fear, but out of anger, even though Cho couldn't make out the words.
She carefully approached the scene while remaining in the air, like most of the other players. Oddly enough, she didn't feel cold or desperate like when she happened to stand close to a Dementor in the past. And she got her explanation soon. She soon hovered over the Dementors low enough to distinguish their faces, and she recognized two of them. One was Draco Malfoy, and the other was Marcus Flint, respectively Seeker and captain of the Slytherin team.
"Unacceptable! Disgraceful! Not only you dare to disrupt a Quidditch match, but you also try to scare the other players!"
Soon, other professors joined her, including Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape and Professor Lupin. Most, especially McGonagall, were quite angry at the Slytherins as well. Cho and the others couldn't refrain from laughing. Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, it made no difference. They were all laughing to death at seeing Malfoy and Flint, along with the two other students who looked as dumb as trolls, being berated, and Cho had the distinct impression that a large part of the crowd found it funny as well. It didn't last long though, for the four Slytherins were quickly brought out of the terrain by McGonagall and Snape, and Madam Hooch took flight again.
"Potter!" She stopped in front of him. Every player could hear her since they all gathered to look closely at the scene. "What are you doing with a wand?"
"Madam Hooch," Oliver Wood intervened. "It's not forbidden to carry a wand during a match. We are only not allowed to use it on the other players or the crowd. And Harry was just…"
"I know the rules very well, Wood, and I didn't ask you the question," Hooch retorted. She returned her attention to Harry. "Why are you carrying this wand?"
"It was just in case Dementors showed up again. I didn't want the same thing to happen than last time," the Seeker of Gryffindor explained.
"He's telling the truth, Madam Hooch." This voice was that of their Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Remus Lupin, who still stood on the ground, not far away from them. "I taught Harry to produce a Patronus since that game in November. That's what he just produced. He thought he was defending himself against Dementors."
Cho had no idea what a Patronus was. Perhaps it was that silvery thing Harry created. It had to be. But Madam Hooch spoke before she could think further about it.
"Well, Potter, it is forbidden to cast a spell to the crowd during a game, and you obviously cast it to people who were part of the crowd."
"Madam Hooch…" Wood began, obviously scandalized. The flying instructor raised a hand to shut him up.
"But… Considering what happened in November, that these four students were obviously out of the space reserved for the audience, that they were clearly trying to disconcert you, and that you could hardly think they were not Dementors from where you were, I'm going to overlook this. No penalty. The match continues. Now, Johnson, you had the Quaffle. You'll start again with it at your team's scoring area."
The Chaser in question complained that she was almost at the scoring area of Ravenclaw when Madam Hooch whistled, but the referee would have none of it and forced them to take back their positions following her instructions. Cho was still rejoicing at what just happened. Malfoy and the Slytherins had her badly injured during their last game, so she didn't mind if they got into trouble. However, she set her mind again on the game. Gryffindor still led by twenty points, and she still had to catch the Snitch and to make sure Harry wouldn't catch it.
The game resumed the moment Hooch whistled. Cho went after Harry immediately. She heard him laugh at a moment, and decided it would be good to remind him of the ongoing game. She cut his trajectory once more.
"HARRY! FOCUS ON THE GAME! KNOCK HER OFF HER BROOM IF YOU HAVE TO!" the Keeper of Gryffindor roared. "YEEESSSSSS!"
The last word was meant for Alicia Spinnet who just sent the Quaffle through a ring, bringing the score to 80-50 for Gryffindor. Cho was now flying side by side with Harry, but he took some lead quite quickly, which she had no choice to give him. To tail him, she had to remain behind by a minimum distance. A Bludger came their way and both swerved to avoid it. Harry avoided one of his own goalposts by the same occasion. No matter his Firebolt, he was very good at flying.
"Davies arrives with the Quaffle…" Jordan commented. "He's about to shoot… And he scores… No luck Oliver, today. 80-60 for Gryffindor."
Cho kept following Harry's trajectory. Once, in a stroke of luck, she got in the way of Katie Bell as she was heading towards Ravenclaw's goalposts. This distraction allowed Randolph to take the Quaffle away from her, and after a few passes, Davies was about to shoot again.
"And no, Wood stops it! Gryffindor counterattacks!"
The Gryffindor Chasers had no more luck this time though. Grant Page blocked another shot. He really was keeping the rings very well today. Cho kept searching for the Golden Snitch, remaining behind Harry just in case, but she couldn't find it. After a few blocks from each Keeper, Jeremy finally managed to score, reducing Ravenclaw's lag to 80-70. Only one goal separated them from Gryffindor now. It was then that Harry dived again. Cho dived as well a second later. The small elation from her team having scored distracted her an instant. Harry was rushing to the ground, and Cho tried to follow him the best she could.
There was more distance between them than before. Cho didn't see the Snitch. Perhaps it was another feint. But what if it wasn't? She focused on the path ahead of her, rushing, trying to see if Harry's shape, as slim as it was, could be hiding the Snitch from her eyes. Despite this, she cast a glance on her right side, and her eyes caught a shine. Harry had almost reached the ground, and flew up, turning right by the same occasion. Cho knew right away he saw the same thing she did. Within a blink, she turned right as well and started to take altitude. She was a little farther from Harry than last time, which meant she was higher and still had a chance. She caught the glint she witnessed a moment before and rushed towards it, seeing from the corner of her eye Harry doing the same thing. The Golden Snitch moved quickly, taking leaps of one foot at a time. Cho crept on the handle of her Comet to maximize her speed, and extended her hand. She was only a few feet away.
The Snitch made a swift move to the left, and a hand closed on it. Except it wasn't Cho's hand.
The whistle made it known that the match was over. Cho looked on her left to see Harry turning in the same direction, away from her, his right hand holding the Golden Snitch. She turned right, damning herself for failing. They had lost. It was over.
Cho heavily went towards the scoring area of her team, where the players of Ravenclaw were gathering, slowly flying down to the ground. She unmounted her broom as the commentator was rejoicing with a large part of the crowd.
"Gryffindor won! Gryffindor won! Final score. Gryffindor: two hundred and thirty points. Ravenclaw: seventy points. What a match!" They lost.
"Okay, everyone. Let's go to the changing rooms," Roger ordered them. "Well played," he added, though his voice lacked conviction.
A minute later, the seven players of Ravenclaw, including Cho, were changing in silence. As some of them were done earlier than the others, they didn't leave. Roger always wanted to speak to all of them once a game was over. It was one of his rules.
"Okay, everybody," he said after a while, when everyone had removed their Quidditch robes. "I'll state the obvious. We lost. But we didn't lose by much. We played very well. Each and everyone of you, you played well. It wasn't a far thing. And Cho…" She had been looking at the floor this entire time. She looked up when he addressed her, the entire team staring at her. "You did everything you could. You almost caught the Snitch, you played better today than ever before. So don't blame yourself, because you have nothing to blame yourself for. We just faced a team that as good as we were, and they won. There's nothing more to tell."
"You know that we have no chance of winning the Cup this year, Roger?" Jason pointed out.
"No, indeed. We will not have the Cup this year." He looked as miserable as all of them looked. "But we still have another game to play, and I don't want any of you to think that because the Cup is out of reach, you can rest. I expect the maximum from you for the rest of the season. No excuse will be accepted."
Everyone was silent for a long time.
"Well, after all, there is still next year. And we can say that we gave a hell of a fight to the Gryffindors. That counts for something," Grant then said. There were some agreements, even a few saddened smiles, including from Cho.
"It was a good game," Randolph commented. "One I will remember. We can tell that we are the first players in Hogwarts history to have played against a Firebolt."
"And the story of Draco Malfoy stuck in a hood," Jeremy added.
That brought a few timid smiles, even from Cho. It was true. This game had been wonderful. She didn't remember having so much fun during a match, especially when Malfoy made a fool of himself. She played against the best Seeker of Hogwarts, who also happened to have the best broom in the world, and she almost got the Snitch despite this, even though she failed in the end. She supposed that she would feel better tomorrow. For now though, the defeat was still fresh in her mind, and she needed some time to accept it.
When they left the changing rooms, they were welcomed by a small crowd of students from their house who applauded them loudly the moment they went out. Cho received a few taps on her back, and her friends were on her in no time, multiplying compliments about how she played well and should have won, reminding her of her best moves during the game. There was another crowd ahead of them, the Gryffindors who were celebrating their victory. Cho thought she saw the Firebolt being raised into the air like a trophy. She wished that she was in Harry's place right now, celebrating a victory, with still a chance to win the Quidditch Cup at the end of the season, but at least she got the support of everybody in her house, and even from some students of Hufflepuff it seemed, judging by the badges they wore and the colors of their robes.
Cho only made a short tour to their common room. She then went with her friends to the lake for the rest of the day. For the first time in two weeks, she almost didn't worry about her parents or anything else for the whole day. She just spent a pleasant moment chatting and joking with her friends, and when she fell asleep later that night, she felt happy. That very night, she dreamed that she was playing again and that she caught the Golden Snitch.

Next chapter: new POV (try to guess who)
