"HURRY BEFORE THAT THING CATCHES UP TO US!!"

I ran across the observatory with a female scientist just right behind me. The creature our discovery team found in the ocean that we had been studying in our underwater lab. We quickly found out it was not a creature. It was remnants of an ancient infection that spreads once it finds a compatiable host. One that infuses with the right hosts bloodstream.

"RUN FASTER! WE MUST NOT LET THE MONSTER FIND OUT YOU ARE BLOOD COMPATIABLE WITH IT!"

I ran as fast as I possibly could only stopping when the woman had fallen.But to my horror the infection was wrapping itself around her legs.

Once it touches you it's already too late.

"Jeremy run! The fate of the world rests on your- AAAAAAAHHHHH!!"

The black goo completely enveloped her and I ran away my breathing increasing tenfold. My heart was pounding and I could not stop screaming. It became all the more terrifying when the thing actually spoke.

"Well what have we here? Do you have the same blood as I do mortal?"

"NO STAY AWAY FROM ME!"

"Merge with me and we shall become unstoppable and all the more powerful! Why would you run?"

"YOU'RE A MONSTER THAT DOEN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT LIFE!! GO BACK IN THE OCEAN WHERE YOU BELONG!"

I ran as fast as my legs would take me. The black goo nearly grabbing me by my ankles as I jumped into a lifepod.

The creature snapped at me through the cracks and I backed away into my seat as far as I could go while inserting the coordinates to go up into the surface.

But my lifepod refused to budge as the infection was volumnous enough to keep me from retreating to the surface. I knew at that point there was no other choice but to sacrifice myself.

"You're going to regret this!"

"I regret nothing."

I pushed the self destruct button and the entire lifepod blew up around me.

"Sage hurry up with your homework or we're going to be late for school!!"

I hurried to write my papers. The teacher asked us to write what about what we love about our parents.

"I'm rushing mommy!"

"Well rush faster! Daddy can't be late today!!"

"Okay!"

~My mommy and daddy take care of me and love me. And most of all they want me to be smart.~

I smiled as I writed my last sentence and put the paper in my bagpack. I put it on and hurried downstairs. To get a big crushing hug from my mommy when I reached the bottom step.

"Happy 5th birthday Sage! We'll open your presents and eat some cake after school, okay?"

"Okay mommy."

"Aww I can't believe my little girl is already five! Don't you have the cutest light brown hair? Muah! Muah! Muah!"

"Hehehe Mommy stop it! No kisses!"

"I love you so much Sage!"

"I love you too Mommy. Where's daddy?"

"I'm here! Where's my birthday girl?"

"Right here daddy!"

My daddy scooped me up and pulled me into a tight hug.

"I can't wait to show you your present kiddo. I know you're going to love it!"

"Can't wait daddy!"

He hugged me again and put me down 'cuz he forgot his keys again.

Me and mommy both chuckled as we headed outside to go to school. We sat in the car waiting for dad, and waiting and waiting and waiting.

We waited a while for daddy but he never came out. Eventually mommy went back inside to go get him.

I sat in my car seat waiting but they never came. I waited a while before I got up to check why my mommy and daddy were being slow today.

"Mommy? Daddy? We're going to be late for school. Where are you?"

I went to the sofa room they werent there. I looked in the kitchen they weren't there. I was going to go up the stairs when I heard some noise from the garage.

I pushed open the garage door before I saw my mommy's hand come out from behind it.

"Mommy?"

"Sage run!"

"Why?"

I saw my mommy try to crawl closer as if something was pulling her away. She held out her hand to me and I held it back.

"Sage promise me you will listen when I tell you to run right now! Run and don't look back! Understand?!"

"Where's daddy?"

I said as I saw some kind of black thing behind my mommy.

"Mommy what's that-"

"RUN SAGE! LISTEN TO MOMMY AND RUN!"

I was more confused and even more when she suddenly pushed me back from some black sludge behind her.

And it was eating her up.

"Sage mommy loves you! And no matter what stay away from this!"

"Mommy?!"

"Sage run! RUN!"

I backed away and looked at my mommy one more time. And with tears in my eyes I ran.

Outside many people were screaming and I was terrified.

Some monsters tried to grab me with black coming out of their mouth.

I ran away from them as fast as I could remembering mommy's words not to look back.

Too scared to think of anything else I went around the house and headed to the woods.

I ran until the sound of screaming and growling faded and I was all alone.

I was tired for running for so long and I looked around. I could see nothing but trees.

"Hello? Anyone?"

I walked around looking for a sign of something. Nothing but trees.

I cried a bit but held it back.

I came out into a clearing into the woods and I smiled when I realized what I saw.

"A waterfall!"

I walked on over to it and looked at my reflection in the water. Forgetting about my mommy for a bit.

"Hello."

I stepped back in surprise to hear the water speak.

"Hello."

The water said again. I stepped closer a little scared but managed to talk back.

"Hello."

"What are you?"

"A kid."

"Your n-name?"

"I'm Sage."

"Hello Sage. I'm Jerry."

I laughed at the water's name.

"What's so funny?"

"Your name is silly."

"I suppose it is."

"Hehehahahahaha!!"

"Why is your name Sage?"

"Heehee. Sage is a flower."

"A flower? What's a flower?"

"Ummm, oh hold on."

I walked away from the water to look around for a flower. I found a dandelion and walked back with it.

"See Jerry? This a flower. This one's called a Dandelion."

"Dandelion?"

I looked into the water and I saw something moving underneath it.

"Jerry are you in the water?"

"Yessss..."

"Why don't you come out?"

"You'll get scared if I do."

"I won't get scared I promise."

"Noooo..."

"Aww why not?"

No response.

"Jerry?"

Jerry didn't answer.

"Little girl!"

I turned around to see an old lady in the woods with a huge backpack on her back.

"Hi."

"Where are your parents?"

"The black thing got them. They told me to run."

"Oh I see. Well you can come with me. I'm looking for a new home."

"I can? Yay!"

I ran over to the old lady to give her a hug. She chuckled at me and held me back.

"Did you know the water can talk?"

"That's nice dear."

"No really it spoke to me."

"Oh? What did it say?"

"It's name is Jerry."

"You named it Jerry?"

"No it said that's what it's name was. Jerry's underwater."

"Oh okay. What's your name sweetie?"

"I'm Sage."

"Nice to meet you Sage. My name's Gretel."

"Hi Gretel."

"Come on let's go find a new home."

"Okay bye Jerry!"

I said waving at the water before I went with Gretel into the woods.
