A Not-So Froggy Thanksgiving -

Amphibia

Author's Note: I don't own Amphibia. The show and its characters belong to the very creative and talented Matt Braly.

Additionally, I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy this short story I put together last minute to fit the occasion.

It was a warm, sunny November day in Los Angeles, but not just any November day, it was Thanksgiving. Sasha and Marcy were at their shared apartment getting ready to head over to Anne's house for dinner. Each of Sasha's parents offered her to join them at their homes for Thanksgiving dinner, but she didn't like the fact that neither one of them invited Marcy knowing she was staying with her and had nowhere else to go, and she also didn't want to pick sides which she felt like she needed to do her entire life, even when they were still together.

"Ready to go?" Sasha grabbed her jacket, keys and purse. "We need to go pick up dessert." They promised the Boonchuys they'd make an apple pie from scratch to bring over, but since Marcy somehow set it on fire, they would need to settle for something store-bought. "Hopefully there's a place still open."

They each got inside the red convertible. Sasha drove all around the city looking for a place to buy a decent pie, cake, or anything considered a dessert that she could get her hands on at this point.

After driving for nearly an hour, Sasha found a grocery store that was fortunately still open.

"You coming, Marce?"

"Nah Sash I'm trying to beat this level," Marcy said, concentrating on her handheld gaming console.

"Whatever nerd." The blonde-haired woman slammed her car door shut, pocketed the key, and walked away.

Sasha entered the store which was filled with a few last-minute shoppers scattered around the building. She took the last apple pie on the shelf, inspected it for any abnormalities then made her way to the only register open. She almost dropped the pie in her hands when she saw who was in front of her with a giant, cooked turkey encased in a plastic container on the conveyor belt. "I don't believe it! Boonchuys?!"

Anne's mother greeted her daughter's best friend. "Why hello there Sasha, happy Thanksgiving!"

"Happy Thanksgiving. I'm not sure I should be the one explaining myself now. I think you have an idea of what happens when you let Marcy in the kitchen, but you guys?"

They all laughed then Mrs. Boonchuy responded. "We cook for a living. We too need a day off sweetie."

"It's not like we slacked off completely. Anne is back home preparing the sides," her husband added.

"I wish I had a day off," the cashier said bluntly while scanning the huge turkey. The man behind the counter appeared to be in his late 20s, possibly early 30s in age.

"Oh no! I left my wallet at home!" Mr. Boonchuy noticed while turning his pockets inside out.

"Not again," said his wife in an aggravated tone of voice.

"Don't worry, it's on me!"

"We couldn't let you do such a thing Sasha! That turkey is $50!"

Sasha had the cashier scan the pie and she pulled out her credit card to pay. "I insist."

"We will pay you back, we promise," Mr. Boonchuy assured the young woman.

"Well I guess Marcy and I will be following you back to your place now," Sasha said.

"Where is Marcy?" Mrs. Boonchuy asked.

"In the car playing her nerdy videogames."

"That's my girl! I have yet to beat her in War of the Warlocks: Resist the Resistance. I demand a rematch!" Mr. Boonchuy said as he picked the turkey up from the bagging area and Sasha took the pie.

"That dumb-I mean- amazing movie has a video game now?" Sasha asked.

"I heard that!"

"Of course you did."

The three of them walked out the exit and to their cars. "We will meet again soon!" Mrs. Boonchuy shouted from across the parking lot.

Sasha got back in her car where her long, black-haired friend and roommate was still playing the same video game and started driving to Anne's house.

"You're not gonna play that through dinner are you?"

"Of course not!" Marcy's screen suddenly went black. "Oh shoot! Battery died."

Sasha snickered. "Guess you're stuck in the real world now."

At the Boonchuy residence, Sasha and Marcy waited for Anne's parents to get inside and settled in before entering the house.

"I can hold the pie if you-" Marcy offered, and Sasha cut her off.

"Nope. This was the last one they had." Sasha took the pie, locked up her car and headed to the front porch. Marcy followed her across the yard and up the stairs, tripping over her own feet a few times.

Sasha rang the doorbell, but she heard "It's open!" from the other side, so she turned the knob and headed inside with Marcy following her from behind.

"So Anne, I busted your parents buying a pre-cooked turkey at the store, and they busted me buying this pie since… you know."

"I had a feeling, and yes, we've been buying pre-cooked turkeys for a few years now. It's just easier and we can focus on perfecting our traditional side dishes more," Anne replied.

"Store-bought turkey huh? Festive!" Marcy condoned the Boonchuys' decision altough she thought their own cooking was heavenly. Hopefully the sides would make up for it, since they were homemade Thai favorites on the holidays.

When everything was ready to eat, everyone gathered around the dining room table and served themselves. They briefly talked about work, Marcy's webcomic, and reminisced about the good old days.

"The Plantars would've loved this," Anne said.

After dinner, Mr. Boonchuy located his wallet to reimburse Sasha for the turkey, holding the money out for her to grab, which she refused. "You guys did so much for me and Marcy over the years. The least I could do is pay for a silly turkey."

Anne's father put the money back. "My daughter is super lucky to have friends like you two."

Sasha and Marcy decided to spend the night with Anne since they all had the rest of the week off work. After her parents went to sleep, they chowed down on leftover food during all hours of the night while watching movie after movie. It felt like they were children again and they loved every minute of it.
