This story answers some questions left unanswered by CIC, and plays around with the characters from 24. You might also notice I use elements from my previous 24 stories. It also goes into certain recent events, like the evacuation from Afghanistan and the war between Russia and Ukraine.

103. Chapter 103

Tony continues to sweep the building. He tries to draw out any remaining snipers, so far nothing. If they are still here, they don't want to reveal their positions. He listens in on his com, they are silent. Tony doesn't know if they fled, or if they just changed positions. Are they still waiting to kill Gaines when he and Jack leave?

President Keaton is on the phone with president Suvarov of Russia.

.

Keaton: There is an operation going on right now. We might be about to obtain intel regarding who specifically was behind the assasination of president Putin.

Suvarov: How reliable is this intel?

Keaton: That remains to be determined. When we obtain it we will turn it over to your people for verification. For now I am only asking you to hold off on any military action.

Suvarov: Very well. But if my people say it is reliable, and it turns out that Zelensky or other Ukranian officials are behind this attack...

Keaton: Then the United States will not stop any retaliation by the Russian Federation.

Suvarov: That is fair.

Keaton: But if it turns out that American citizens were involved, we will turn them over to you. And if it turns out that Russian citizens are behind it, or the attacks against my country, I would expect you to take appropriate measures.

Suvarov: I understand.

Tony calls Jack.

.

Tony: Still no sign of the enemy snipers. But I can't tell if they fled or just changed positions.

Jack: Okay. I'll use a smoke bomb to mask our escape. Get ready to meet us in the van.

Tony: I'll be ready.

.

Jack used the smoke bomb as he and Gaines fled towards the van. Tony ran to the van as well. The enemy snipers then fired on them, and hit Gaines. He was hurt but alive, the three men got into the van and drove off. Jack examined Gaines, the bullet had gone right through him, and he was losing blood. Tony began driving to a local urgent care center.

Jack: We're going to do everything we can to save you. But in case we fail, I want to know where the chip is.

Gaines: No. I live, or you never find the chip.

Jack: Tony, don't take us to the urgent care center. Either Gaines tells us where the chip is, or we let him die.

Gaines: You won't let me die, not unless you want terrorists to kill thousands more civilians to die in the next three hours.
