Something to Be Proud Of / Her POV

Day 95

Though the beginning of the meal was a bit off because of Hawks being there, it slowly simmered away. Mostly due to Dabi's hand on her thigh.

The conversation with Compress and the other misfits felt nice. She had a place. As everyone slowly left the table she instructed them all to put their plates into the sink.

"You're not my mom. You're the closest thing to a mom I ever had." Jin's face contorted with his words, "Dishes are women's work. I'm going to do the cleaning tonight."

He ended up leaving for the kitchen to do the dishes from the meal.

A mother. She kinda was like the mom of the league. And it was something she was proud of and the lingering thoughts helped her ignore Hawks when he left the room with Toga.

Dabi's hand was in hers. His elbow on the table and body turned to watch her.

Smirking, "What?" She squeezed his hands with the word. They were alone in the room now.

"You're happy here?" His question sounded like an observation. A statement. But she still answered.

"I am. I have the League, a good job." She lifted his hand and kissed along his staples, "You."

Their eyes locked and she couldn't really tell what was going on in his head.

Unlinking their fingers he weaves his hand across her face and into her hair, "When I was a kid all I fucking wanted was for my old man to tell me he was proud of me."

Dabi didn't really have to tell her this for her to figure it out on her own.

He continued, "You were a fucking mess when you showed up at my apartment." He leaned in and placed his forehead against hers, "Never thought I'd see the day where I wanted to tell someone else I was proud of them."

His lips hovered over hers, "I've always been too selfish to be proud of someone else. But here I am with you."

Their lips lock. Her heart was full with his praise. Not one of sexual content but a true life altering praise.

He was proud of her and how far she had come. Even if it was all thanks to him.

Her thoughts settled onto him. They went into the night with each other. They didn't go to their separate rooms like they sometimes did.

She stayed with him and he welcomed it.
