Summary: Shaun and Lea review all of the gifts they got at their baby shower after coming home.
Shaun and Lea's baby shower consisted of parenting advice, mingling and casual conversations, and toasts of luck and wisdom (much better than silly games involving people getting up close and personal with Lea's belly and guessing how big her belly has gotten or wasting diapers and chocolate). The blue three-tiered cake topped with a teddy bear and baby shoes was delicious.
They would have breakfast with Lea's family in the morning before leaving for their flight. Pam and Mike, however, would fly back in five weeks for their grandson's birth while Donnie would look after Grandma Frances back at home.
Claire and Ravi would stay for two more days until Sofia and her family's scheduled immigration appointment was complete and until they were settled into their new apartment in Cupertino.
The parents-to-be were in their home looking at all the gifts they received. Along with every gift a guest bought for them, they also bought them diapers, wipes, and some clothes (footies, pants, hats, socks, bootie, and onesies).
Some of the gifts given to them were items directly from their Babylist registry wish list, and some were not.
Moreover, everyone gave them boxes of Pampers and Huggies diapers of many sizes and wipes. The nurses made that request a week before the event because she thought that providing them with a lot of diapers would save them a ton of money and trips to the store.
At their last OB/GYN appointment, Shaun and Lea already received a free purple Lansinoh breast pump as a gift from Dr. Winkler since their insurance gave them full coverage. That gift also came with breastmilk storage bags, a 200-count box of disposable nursing pads, a lactation massager, instant heat packs, and nipple cream.
Lea's parents gifted them a Babyletto white 3-drawer dresser that doubled as a changing table in natural pine. They also gave them a brown plush teddy bear and a milestone journal.
Donnie and Raul were obviously going to spoil their nephew rotten given all the toys they bought - a cream lamb plush, sensory activity panels, a Sophie la Girafe teether, Manhattan Toy mind cubes, musical egg shakers (three of them in the shape of a fox, raccoon, and bear), textured balls, a developmental bumpy ball, a pound and tap bench, a tambourine, maracas, stacking rings, a sloth rattle, and a tummy time wedge that doubled as a llama plush when Peanut is older. All of those came in a light grey folding toy chest, which had been wrapped neatly.
Lea's Grandma Frances gave them a Babyletto white shelf, where they could put toys, books, or decor. She also gifted them with drawer dividers (an item Shaun wanted so he could organize the baby hats and socks in one drawer), non-slip velvet hangers, and a rope diaper caddy in grey.
Dr. Glassman, of course, gifted them with a basket, which he called a baby first aid kit - three different thermometers (one for rectal, one for ears, and one that could be used orally or in the armpit), vaseline, an electric nasal aspirator, an accudose pacifier (an easy way to administer liquid medicine orally), a snotsucker saline kit (which had a snot sucker, saline, and filters), a gas and colic reliever, a skin soother, a pacifier weaning system, pacifier packs of different brands (Chicco, Philips Avant, and LouLou Lollipop), a baby banana teether, an infant training toothbrush, a Fridababy teether, a cradle cap brush, an electric nail buffer, a nail and ear picker, a bath mitt, and nail snipper clippers. He was really into stuff from the FridaBaby brand.
Of course, he did, Lea and Shaun thought. However, both agreed that Shaun would give the same thing at a baby shower.
In addition, Dr. Glassman also got them a bag of different brands of bottles and nipples, which was from Buy Buy Baby. According to him, when he was shopping for those gifts at the store, the associate recommended that he give the parents the bag of free bottle samples. At the shower, Glassy, Park, and other parents explained that babies can be picky about nipples, so it's best to test them out before they buy in stock.
Claire and Ravi bought them four different fitted crib sheets in heather grey stripe, heather grey honeybee, storybook bear, and sky stripe. They also provided them with muslin swaddle blankets - two printed with rainbows and suns, two printed with bees and dots, and one printed with safari animals. What also came with their gift was a portable white noise machine.
Sofia and Oscar gave them a white rocking chair, a little smiling sun plush, and a plethora of soup mixes from World Market. They explained that these soups were for fixing up after the baby arrived. It would save them the inconvenience of chopping.
From Jared was a changing pad with liners, baby lotion, face and nose cream, baby wash, shampoo, conditioner, baby oil, and diaper cream. Along with that came hooded towels and washcloths from Burt's Bees of many colors and themes - Hello Moon, Little Ducks, Cloud Honey Bee, A Bee C, Rosy Spring, Heather Grey, Blossom Stripe, and Cloud. All those were wrapped individually and put into an infant tub, a 4-in-1 adjustable infant bathtub meant to last until Peanut was 24 months.
Jordan bought them the black baby carrier, the Graco convertible stroller and car seat, matching car seat accessories, and a few carseat and stroller toys.
Danny bought them a basket full of a variety of toys - wooden rainbow stacking blocks, a shape sorter, an Itzy Ritzy silicone teether shaped like a dinosaur, a blue hedgehog-shaped roll-around toy rattle, a wooden ring bunny stacker from Hape, and a lamb rattle.
Park bought them a variety of Burt's Bees bibs and burp cloths. The bibs came in many different patterns and colors, as did the burp cloths - avocadoes, carrots, striped, plain white, bees, letters, yellow stripes, giraffes, grey, and white. It was a total of 14 bibs and 25 burp cloths, and Park said they needed a lot of them because their baby would be spitting up a lot.
Kellan (who was in town for a week) also had his own personal gift for Shaun and Lea: diapers and an avocado baby rattle.
Morgan gave them a black bottle cooler bag and a green nursing pillow with forest animals printed on it.
Lim and Clay gave them silicone dishes designed for babies - bowls, divided plates, and spoons. They came in different colors of the rainbow, and their bottoms had suction, which meant they could stick to the high chair tray.
Asher and Jerome gifted them a simple video baby monitor, a Graco Kendall color baby swing, and a slate blue multi-stage high chair. The adjustable swing could swing in different directions, but the high chair they gave them would be a godsend. It could be used and converted in four different ways and could last until Peanut was three. It could be turned into a booster seat (tray or no tray) or a toddler seat for his toddler years.
Andrews got them a Graco Pack 'n' Play playard (which was good to use from birth until his toddler years). It came with a bassinet (which Peanut would be sleeping in for the first six months of his life in Shaun and Lea's room) and a changing area; both could be removed whenever. He also brought them something to support the bassinet, a sloth rattle, a couple of cool teethers, and a rainstick rattle.
Villanueva brought them a cream terrazzo book rack, a foldaway gate from Skip Hop, a geometric ring stacker, a learning cube, and some ABC/123 wooden blocks.
Nurse Hawkes gave them a charcoal tweed bouncer and rocker, a Hape pull-along toy elephant, a sensory gift set, and some teething rings.
Jessica bought them a three-stage activity center from Skip Hop and a baby mat shaped like a bear from Mary Meyer.
Aoki got them a safari-themed activity gym and an activity floor seat.
JL gifted them with a beige laundry hamper, some light-up wall decor in the shape of clouds, moons, and suns, and a memory book.
Nurse Ocampo gifted them a Munchkin twisty figure-eight teether, a grey diaper backpack, a terrazzo steel diaper pail with bags, and a humidifier that tripled as a diffuser and nightlight.
Nurse Ella bought them some Infantino aquarium bath squirters in the shapes of sea animals, Skip Hop stack and pour buckets with animal faces on them, and a stand-up bath toy bin.
Priyanka, one of Lea's colleagues, gifted them an elbow saver and kneeler (for when they give the baby a bath to keep their knees and elbows from hurting), a bath rinser, a grey spout cover shaped like a whale, and a grey bath mat shaped like a whale.
Diego, another one of Lea's co-workers and the person who was going to be taking over her duties during her maternity leave, gave them more books to add to their library. Dr. Glassman already gave them Goodnight Moon, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Corduroy, Where the Wild Things Are, The Giving Tree, and Madeline, but Diego gave them Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, The Wonderful Things You Will Be, The Snowy Day, On the Night You Were Born, Dragons Love Tacos, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Olivia, and the First 100 board books.
However, Shaun and Lea still needed a crib and crib mattress, which they were still deciding on. Lea also needed to get herself some nursing and pumping bras and postpartum recovery essentials.
