Shaw had left Bear on guard again. The dog lying pressed in a snuggled kind of watchful over her as Root rouses. She presses a light finger to her lips to quiet him when the dog's head shifts noticing her more wakeful state. Bear complied slowly lowering his head back to his paws with an agreeing exhale of breath as Root's fingers scratched behind his ear in appreciation.
"Smack in the middle of a gunfight so soon after initial surgery isn't exactly the best recovery setting."
"Like I need the reminder," Shaw growled in answer through a mouthful of food much to Root's amusement as she made herself a little more comfortable against the hijacked bed. True Bear was an excellent cuddle buddy but not even he was comparable to the one Root wanted to be pressed against when she woke up. "don't give me that look. This sim might suck royal but considering the usual pattern….."
"Yeah, yeah I get the picture," Was the fast-cutting replay "sorry to say though but I don't think we have enough slush funds for things to get plate breaky right now."
Root's lower lip meets her teeth to hold back a low groan at the reminder of the reasoning behind the comment. Longing jealousy swept over her because of it too. Not that she trusted herself to take care of the reminded heat the teased at moment caused just yet if she also wanted to keep up her eavesdropping.
"I could still let you fall asleep you know." Shaw huffed doing nothing to lessen the listening hacker's predicament but even Root could hear the lack of true venom in the words. A rarity for Shaw when her voice grew so deathly low like it was now. "Besides…" and Root knew just by her tone that Shaw was tapping a finger against her temple as she left the sentence hanging.
"Mindset." Root whispers finishing the words a chilling salve on the heat pooling low between her thighs under the sheets.
Shaw was right of course.
Root just hated how much so when she remembered the husky pitch of Sameen's pleasured groan before her glimpse of their Samaritan-given coupling had cut out to the next scene. More than anything Root wants to hear that sound for herself. The taste she'd been given in those long hours in the CIA safehouse only fulfilled her already starving want for her sociopathic partner.
Maybe if she played her cards just right and Shaw was willing of course they could go about it without the threat of broken glass. Simulation or not she wasn't risking Bear's paw pads just because she has an aching itch only Shaw could hope to scratch out.
"Haha. Tough luck Sammy 2.0." the Sim observer teases from the other room breaking into Root's wondering thoughts. not that Root was too far lost in her own fantasies of taking Shaw against a tabletop enough that she misses the unmistakable word 'Dysentery" between the dissolved laughter floating in from the other room.
"I'm shredding that stupid card." Shaw snaps with a fresh flashing of that cool rage Root found so appealing. Among other enticements, Shaw held for her.
"You do your buying me a new set for replacement No violence involved either."
"Nerd." Shaw scoffs over the soft scrapping of her chair.
"She doesn't need you hovering."
"Speak for yourself." Root grumbles under her breath.
Whatever Shaw's answer was it wasn't one Root could overhear only the forced laughed "Yeah real mature Sameen." From their giggling guard.
"I'm going for a shower. Try not to aggravate that concussion until after I get back."
Root perks up at the sounds of Shaw's approach. "How's the patient?" the medical woman asks in a low hum while Root does her best to appear to still be unconscious. Bear ever the helpful assistant gives a yawned huff in apparent reply.
"Oh, that's good huh?" Shaw muses in apparent understanding "But how about I check just to be sure?" Another tired grunt from the dog before Root's playacting was put to the test when warmed calloused fingers dipped under the loose cover of her shirt. Innocent enough with the healing incision newly added to Root's growing collections of battle wounds. A few lovingly gifted by the very woman now tending to her in fact.
"Are you going to come willing or will I have to carry you?" Shaw asks without moving her hand from its held place over Root's pounding ribcage.
Root wasn't expecting Shaw to be hovering so close when she opened her eyes. Not that she intended to let such an opportunity pass without indulging in a quick kiss. Or it was intended as a quick stolen kiss but at the last second Shaw turned towards her catching Root's seeking lips in a hungry meeting of mouths.
"Humm missed you too, Sameen." Root groaned when they thought to separate.
"Haven't answered my question," Shaw answered kneeling against the edge of the mattress. One hand fisted in restraining possession against the front of her patient's shirt. "Join me for a shower?" she prods when Root only blinks slowly at her the hacker's eyes lingering mostly on the other woman's now kiss-swollen lips.
"Well, if the whispers are true and we did somehow make it out of the end of the AI war alive."
"We did. You wee just sleeping thought most of it." Was called out from the other room. "More slacker than hacker, huh Sams?" the asker jokes "Not that I blame you. I'd sleep this one out myself if I could have gotten away with it."
"Bear," Shaw growls earning a perked-up whimper from the dog snuggled against Root's other side. Root is too distracted with another triggered memory.
She starts in surprise at the heavy slamming of the book stack dropped beside her folded arms. "And you say I spend more time than needed here?" Hanna chuckles dropping into the open seat at her side. "Half the time I think you're more addicted to that game than I am."
She yawns rubbing the heel of her hand against her tired eyes. "Helping Barb with a few updates to this thing." It wasn't really a lie but not the full truth. In reality, she was just crashing at the library to hide out from her mother's latest drunken hook-up. The guy giving off too many Trent Russell vibes for her to think of sticking around longer than dinner.
Hanna eyes the computer and then turns back to her with an easing grin. "Oh, so what your saying is your being more hacker than slacker?"
"I'm not a slacker." She defends with another yawn. "And just cause I dabble in computers doesn't make me a hacker."
"Yet." Hanna corrects tugging over one of the books in her teetering stack towards her "So anyway what did you get for question 202 on that insane math worksheet?"
"Root."
Shaw's grounding palm against her racing heart like a lifeline as Root's breathing staggered in shock at yet another remembered moment with her lost best friend. "Talk to me, what's wrong?"
Root can tell by her tone Shaw had shifted into full medical training mode as the hacker's trembling hand closed as hard as she was able around her (Shaw's) wrist keeping it there a little longer.
"Get them out of my head, sweetie. Please." Root begs not caring that even as she spoke it was only a Samarian-controlled copy of Shaw tending to her. Now it was only the blocking of Shaw's hand against the side of her head that kept Root from attempting to claw out whatever it was Samaritan had bugged her with.
Shaw's hand joins Root's against the hidden scar of her cut-out implant. "Bathroom." She grunts more to get Root away from any of the hidden weapons Shaw had stashed around the room once she recognized the far-away glaze clouding Root's eyes. Her partner nodes following obediently when Shaw guides her towards the adjoining door.
Root didn't even care if now Samaritan was going to make their copied Shaw slice into her head just, as she'd watched the copy of herself doing to Shaw in that grumbling subway car. Then again, she reminds herself after a glance around the place. An out-of-the-way hotel bathroom even a larger, nicer seeming one like this may not be as surgically sterilized as that moving subway car had been.
But then Shaw was letting her go and stepping away leaving Root scrambling for something to hold onto. Not that Sameen let her flounder along with her shirt being cast off onto the floor as Shaw stalks towards the bathroom soaking tub to twist open the tap.
"No point wasting water on two showers when we can easily get away with one bath to clean up." Shaw points out over the gurgle of the bathroom water pipes.
"No point." Root echoes "What?" she asks noticing the half smile Shaw had been too slow to hide from Root's transfixed ogling.
"That was the same look you gave when we first met. Before you tased me that is." Shaw says shedding the rest of her clothes slowly under Root's captive gaze.
"I've already said sorry for that." Root argues winding her arms around Shaw's toned shoulders.
"Time to turn up the volume." Shaw decides in a whisper as she backs her hacker up against the bathroom counter before bending enough to coax Root to sit down on it so she wouldn't have too much trouble navigating the taller frame once Root's clothes join hers scattered over the floor.
"Huh?" Root wonders at the mumbled words being kissed along her collarbone.
Shaw shakes her head attacking Root's mouth in a greedy kiss earning a loud clear groan from the woman hugged tight against her as water kept splashing warm and wet into the tub behind them.
