The next morning the same car was parked outside watching the home. They had arrived early not sure what time Adam had to leave for work that, if at all. They stayed low in the car trying not be seen by anyone. Unbeknownst to them Kim and Adam were just finishing up in the shower. The couple had gotten up early and took advantage of the time by having a couple rounds of sex before showering. Adam got out first to clean up his facial hair while Kim was finishing up. They really needed two sinks but they had to make this work for now. As Kim stepped out she wrapped her towel around her body. After drying off she starting putting lotion on her legs, she felt Adam watching her. "Darling you how sexy you look right now?" Adam wrapped his body around hers running his fingers up and down her side lightly. "Well I can feel that on my butt, but the kids will be up any minute and we can't be late." Kim was stopping him in is tracks. Adam laughed and headed to get dressed.

Once Adam was ready he headed to the kids rooms to see if they were up yet. Riley wasn't so Adam decided to let him sleep a bit more. He then went to Allies room where she was up and getting dressed already. She had her own fashion sense and liked to pick her own clothes. Both Kim and Adam encouraged her to pick out what makes her happy. "Hey Allie Cat! How are you this morning?" Adam asked watching her dance around in her new outfit. "Daddy Adam! Good morning!" Allie ran and jumped into his arms. "You are such a morning person! How about you go see your mommy while I get Riley up okay?" Adam asked putting her down as she ran off to Kim. He laughed watching her run excitedly, her hair blowing behind her. She was adorable.

Kim turned around surprised when her door flew open. Laughing when she saw her daughter running over to her. "Hey sweetie! Good morning! Did you sleep well?" Kim asked hugging her daughter. Allie nodded and snuggled a bit with her mom who was almost ready for the day. "Alright sweet girl let's head downstairs to get some breakfast started okay?" Kim put her down and they headed down the stairs. Adam was in Riley's room picking out his outfit before starting to wake him. Riley was not a morning person. He needed his sleep to be a happy baby. "Ry. It's time to wake up." Adam rubbed his back trying to softly wake him. Adam chuckled lightly watching his son pull the blanket higher to cover his face. "Buddy. I know you want to sleep more but we have to wake up. Kimmie and I have work. Allie has school and you are going to grandpas house." Adam tried to explain not sure he was actually listening. He watched as his son slowly sat up. "I know bud. I'm gonna get you dressed and then we are going downstairs for breakfast." Adam picked him up started to get him ready for the day.

Adam carried Riley downstairs after he was ready for the day. Riley was nuzzled on Adams shoulder with his eyes closed. He was mostly asleep still so Adam placed him on the couch to sleep some more while the rest ate breakfast. "Hey Ry is still sleeping on the couch. I will have my pops feed him when he's up and not cranky." Adam walked into the kitchen helping Kim with breakfast. Allie was already munching on her fruit. "Sounds good. Is he feeling okay?" Kim asked concerned for the little boy. "I think so. He wasn't warm, no couch,no runny nose. Think he's just tired. I will sure pops keeps an eye on him." Adam wasn't as concerned since this happened. But he understood where Kim was coming from. "Sounds like a good plan. Let's eat up and head out." Kim plated the food quickly. They had to head out shortly.

After they finished up Adam cleaned up the kitchen while Kim grabbed the rest of her things for the day. They got both kids in the car. Riley was still asleep but did have some juice and Kim wasn't as concerned anymore. As the couple left garage in separate cars neither noticed the car watching their home. The person watching the house was shocked to see Adam and a women leave the home with two children. This was a big surprise for this person. They decided to follow Adam to get his schedule now pat. Then they would get more information about the women. They followed far enough behind that they wouldn't get caught. It wasn't time for that yet. They needed more time and more information.

Kim arrived at work after dropping Allie off and wasn't surprised to see Adam pulling into the parking lot a bit behind her. "Hey Darling! Ry was awake when we arrive at my pops house. He was laughing and hungry." Adam to,d her as they hugged in the lot before walking towards the building. "I'm glad to hear that! I was concerned this morning. He's normally so full of life." Kim said as they walked with Adam arm around her shoulders. They both noticed the car that had been following Adam but neither thought anything of a car parked on the street. As they reached the stairs to the district they shared a short but passionate kiss before heading in. The person in the car was shocked but sat taking photos of the couple. They couldn't believe that Adam had a girlfriend. That was unacceptable.

The couple entered the building splitting ways at the top of the stairs with one more kiss. They both laughed hearing Platt gagging from her desk. As much as she was happy for Kim she loved teasing her. And loved teasing Adam even more. Kim headed to the locker room to change for the day. Adam made his way into the bullpen With a large smile on his face. "Hey Ruze! Good morning huh?" Jay asked when he saw Adam. "Yeah it was a great morning but right now I'm just laughing about Platt teasing me and Kim." Adam shrugged shaking his head. "Yeah she's good at that. How did the talk with Eric go?" Jay asked knowing it was going down last night. "It was rough on Kim. She hung up on him because he was being such an asshole. I kind of get it. I wouldn't want my son calling someone else Dad this quick either. But she clearly is in need of a father figure. And honestly I won't deny that I truly wish she was mine." Adam stated as he shrugged. Almost nervous to admit that for the first time. "Man I get it. It's not a bad thing. Just continue to do what you are doing, I've never seen them this happy." Jay patted his shoulder as he walked to his desk.

Adam settled in to work as Kim headed out to her patrol car with her partner. Kim saw the same cars on the street nothing was new about that. As they started to head out towards there patrol area the girls were laughing and joking, again nothing new. About 30 minutes into their shift the radios came to life calling shots fired at a location close by. The ladies responded and headed to the location provided. As they pulled up they noticed the neighbors outside. "Stay back, go back to your homes!" Kim yelled as they moved towards the house with guns drawn. The door was open so they made their way inside slowly. "Chicago PD! We're coming in!" Kim yelled out. They heard groaning towards the back of the house. The girls moved to clear the downstairs. They found two bodies laying in the kitchen floor. Kim checked the one body finding it dead. Tay checked the second finding her alive but barely hanging on. The back door wide open. "Kim call it in. Stay with the bodies. I will clear the rest of the house." Tay stated as she moved towards the upper floor.

"21-13. Requesting Ambulance to my location as well as the ME. One DOA and one barely hanging on. Also dispatch the Intelligence Unit!" Kim called with urgency. "Please hold on. We've got you. Just keep you eyes on me okay." Kim placed pressure on the wound trying to limit the bleeding. Tay returned and stayed close to Kim just in case the offender returned. "She's bleeding out! Where's that damn ambulance?" Kim yelled as they heard the sirens. Tay ran to direct the paramedics to the victim. Kim moved back to let them work as the Intelligence unit came in. Adam ran through the house looking for Kim. "Darling? Are you okay?" Adam was concerned with all the blood he saw on her. Yeah it's not mine. It's the victims. She had an abdomen wound, gun shot. The other was shot in the head. The reason I asked for you guys is the amount of drugs around this kitchen. It seems like they are selling but not manufacturing it." Kim started to feel light headed. And the breathing turned shallow, her throat closing off.

"Kim? Kim? Burgess? Can you hear me?" Voight called out signaling for another ambulance. Kim nodded but pointed to her throat. Adam came running back into the room seeing Kim about to collapse. "Darling I got you. Anyone got an epi?" Adam asked. Dawson had one in his first aid kit in the car. He ran it back in. "Kim we are going to inject this in your thigh Okay?" He asked watching her nod as she gasped for air. "Okay brace yourself." Dawson injected the epi pen and sat back to wait. They watched as she started to breath again. "Better?" Voight asked. "Yeah still not great but I can breath." Adam picked her up and move her outside knowing what ever was in that room triggered that allergic reaction. "Hey just try to relax and breath in the fresh air. You are outside now. Just keep taking deep breaths." Adam sat her down leaning against his chest.

"Cops laying around on the job? Really?" A nosy neighbor yelled at them. It startled Kim and her breathing spiked. "Kim ignore her! Stay calm, you need deep breaths. You can hear the sirens, they are almost here. Just relax darling!" Adam was trying to stay calm even though he was freaking out. The women yelling at them wasn't helping. "Paramedics! Where are we needed?" They ran up the sidewalk. "Right here. Allergic reaction inside the home, epi pen injection given already. Breathing getting better but still not great. Vitals seem stable." Adam rattled off. "Okay let's get the oxygen on you Okay." They put the mask over her mouth and nose to help her breath. "Her name is Kimberly Burgess, 26 years old, only allergic to Penicillin. At least that we know of." Adam knew they needed more information. "Kim let me tell Voight we are leaving be right back." Adam ran back on the house.

"Hey boss. Going with Kim to med. Not sure how this helps but she's only allergic to Penicillin that we know of so maybe that's not coke?" Adam stated pointing to the mess on the countertop. "Great. Thanks for the update. Keep us updated." Voight was surprised with that info but it just brought up more questions. Adam ran back towards the ambulance as he passed the nosy neighbors he couldn't help but comment. "Now you got something to say? She almost died in there." Adam turned. "Kim baby lets get going." Adam jumped into the ambulance hearing more nasty comments hearing the women calling him sexist. "She's my girlfriend and the mother of children! I'm not sexist. Go home and stop being nosy!" Adam slammed the door just as the paramedics started to laugh at the interaction.

"Kim we are going to start IV fluids to help flush out the toxins Okay?" The paramedics asked. "Okay. That's okay." Kim nodded but she looked exhausted. "I know you're tired but just stay awake till we get you treated at med. Your body worked hard to keep you alive and it's still working hard. But you are very stable. You are doing great." The paramedic helped both Kim and Adam to relax some. Adams hand on her leg the entire ride. As they arrived they noticed Will waiting for them. "Adam what have we got?" Will asked as he jumped out first. "Kim, allergic reaction, epi pen injection in the field. Vitals are stable, breathing much better, extremely exhausted." Adam rattled off all the info he had. They watched as they brought Kim out of the ambulance. She was definitely pale but looked very stable.

"Alright Kim we are gonna take some blood and figure out what happened to you. And we are gonna change your fluids to push them a bit faster. I'm gonna treat this much like a drug overdose so we can get this out of your system faster. Just relax. Take a nap if you want. Your body needs the rest for sure." Will patted her leg before the nurses started to work. Kim fell asleep almost immediately. "Adam man what was in that house?" Will asked hoping to get idea of what to look for. "Honestly we don't know. The countertop was covered in what looked like Coke. Kim was tending to the gunshot wound of the victim next to it but she's never reacted like that around it before. Her only known allergy is Penicillin. I heard Voight calling out to her and ran to catch her. I knew it was an allergic reaction right away. Luckily Dawson had a epi pen. After she was more stable I moved her outside away from the toxins. Other than that I have no clue what happened." Adam explained. "Okay we will figure this out but she's stable. Relax and call if you guys need anything." Will patted his shoulder and then walked away.

When Adam returned to the room he took a seat next to her and held her hand. Knowing she was stable helped him to relax and that was helpful. He sent several text messages letting people know what was happening with Kim. He knew everyone was freaked out after watching someone they care about gasping for air. Hell it was tough for himself to watch, luckily he knew how to handle it. And thankful they were able to act fast. He now knew he needed to have an epi pen with him at all times just in case. Adam was also thankful that Eric would have Allie today so Kim could rest. Lord knows she needed it after today. It was about an hour later when Will returned with you blood work results. "Hey Adam. I have the results of her bloodwork. You were right it wasn't coke. It was antibiotics. In a lot of ways that's great news. No adverse reactions,no worries about triggering an addiction. The rest of the bloodwork was normal as well so she's good to go. I want to keep her for a bit longer to flush her body more and then she needs to rest all weekend. I kind of understand your family situation but if Eric could take Allie all weekend that would be great. If not someone to help during the day with her would be best to Kim can sleep and just rest. Other than that she's good. I will also give you guys a script for the epi pen to have on hand." Will shook Adams hand and left the room again.

About 2 hours later Kim awoke with a splitting headache and had to pee, badly. "Adam baby. Can you get a nurse? I need to go to the bathroom." Kim asked quietly. "Yeah of course. Be right back." Adam kissed her lightly before heading to find a nurse. They returned with a bedpan and Kim wasn't having it. "Nope! Absolutely not! Not peeing in that! I want a real toilet!" Kim was angry! So they relented and allowed her to get up and brought her to the bathroom. When she returned they gave Kim something for the headache. She got back into the bed and laid back down. "Adam. Thank you for saving my life! You were quick to respond and that made a big difference in my life. Thank you." Kim pulled him towards her, she wanted to snuggle. "You never have to thank me for that. I'm just glad I was there and knew what to do." Adam kissed her head as he snuggled next to her. "Try to sleep darling. I will be right here." Adam whispered feeling Kim falling back to sleep already.

Once she was asleep again he pulled out his phone and took a chance by calling Eric. They had never spoken over the phone in a call that Adam initiated. But this was important. So he called and hoped it went well. "Hey Eric it's Adam. I was hoping we could talk for a quick moment." Adam started. "Okay so what's up? Are the girls okay?" Eric was kind of confused as to the call. "Allie's fine. Kim had an allergic reaction at work today. She's going to be fine but her throat was almost completely closed. She's extremely exhausted and the doctors want her to rest all weekend. I wondered if you could take Allie for the weekend so Kim could rest." Adam explained hoping it would calm the other man. "Oh my god! I'm glad she's okay. As for Allie, I have plans for the weekend but I will change them. I can get her after school, take her home to pack a bag and bring her home Monday before school. And I will make sure she sees Kim before we leave, I know they will both need that." Eric knew he needed to step it up.

"Great! Thank you for taking her. Since we have been at the hospital she has only been awake for maybe 10 minutes so she is definite need of rest. I will keep you posted as to her release from the hospital just in case we get her home before you leave the house." Adam stated they talked a few more minutes before hanging up. He settled in again. He ended up falling asleep next to her. The nurses came and went allowing them to sleep, even if Adam wasn't supposed to be in the bed with her. The nurses changed her fluid bags at different points making sure she was still flushing her system. Will had walked by at one point and noticed the situation and decided to take a photo and send it off to Jay. It was cute and against the rules but he didn't care. He could only imagine how scared they must have been earlier. So this was honestly the best outcome.

The next time Kim woke up she was feeling much better. Her head wasn't hurting as bad, her lungs felt much more open but her throat was sore. She assumed that was lack of drinking the past few hours. All her fluids were from an IV so she was dying to drink something. She also noticed that Adam was still snuggled next to her in the bed, sound asleep. She pressed the nurse button, hoping to get discharged and something to actually drink. But she was also trying not to wake Adam. "Miss Burgess what can I do for you?" The nurse asked. "I would like a drink and to use the restroom again. But also when can I go home? I miss the kids." Kim explained. "Well I can help you with most of that. And I will page Dr Halstead about your discharge." The nurse got a drink for Kim before helping her to the restroom. On the way she noticed Will waiting for while talking to Adam.

"Well there she is! We thought you ran away. You ready to be discharged?" Will asked seeing Kim's eyes light up. "Yes thank you! I'm so ready for my own bed." Kim laughed with joy at leaving the hospital. "Great so you need to rest all weekend. No running around like crazy. No working, no house works, no yard work. Just relaxing. If you have issues breathing again come back to see me right away. Otherwise you are free to go. Take care." Will left the couple who were ready to leave already. "Alright let's get this show on the road. We need to head to the district to grab a car and then get you home. I will have pops drop Ry off at the house later. And Eric is taking Allie for the entire weekend so you can rest." Adam hoped Kim wasn't mad about that but she seemed okay. "That's great. Allie will be thrilled to spend the weekend with him. Thank you for arranging that. I'm sure that wasn't a fun conversation to have with him but thank you." Adam didn't reply he just kissed her and led her out of the hospital.

The cab ride to the district was quick. Kim stated outside while Adam ran in to grab their car keys and her purse. They agreed that she was well enough to drive home but he wanted to be right behind her just in case. They slowly drove home Adam watching her every move. Again neither noticed someone following them to Kim's place. When they arrive Eric was already there waiting for them. He had packed a bag for Allie already and they were enjoying a snack before heading out. "Mommy's home!" Allie ran to the door watching them come inside before jumping into her mothers arms. "Hey sweetie! Did you have a good day?" Kim,asked handing her to Adam for a hug. "Yes it was great! Hi daddy Adam! Thank you for taking care of mommy today." She hugged him extra tight. "You don't have to thank me for that. But I love the hugs. Are you excited to spend the weekend with your daddy?" Adam asked as they walked towards the kitchen. Allie nodded over exaggeratedly. The couple laughed. Adam placed her down so she could get her snack.

"Hey Kim. Hope you are feeling better. Thanks for the call Adam." Eric hugged Kim before shaking Adams hand. "Hey thanks for taking Allie all weekend. It's a big help. All I want is to sleep. Who knew an allergic reaction could be so exhausting?" Kim shrugged before heading to the couch. "Darling? You hungry? Actually let me rephrase that, what do you want to eat since you haven't eaten since breakfast." Adam already had a water bottle in hand to give her. She needed to stay hydrated. "Maybe just a simple sandwich. I'm not really hungry but I know I need to eat something." Kim stated. "Sounds good. Just give me a minute. Here's some water to drink in the meantime." Adam handed her the bottle before turning to leaving.

Eric watched the couple, jealous of what they had but he really on had himself to blame. He had let her down years ago and maybe they really were better as friends. Things did seem to work better for them when he just had the friendship going. He really did need to focus on that, especially for his daughter. Today had been a eye opener. Adam calling him to take Allie for the weekend. Maybe he really didn't want to replace him, maybe he really did want them both to be father figures to Allie. Maybe he wasn't such a bad guy after all. Eric decided to really try and give Adam a fair shot, he deserved. He saved Kim's life today and Allie loved him, Eric needed to make this work for them all.

"Kim Baby. Here's your sandwich and some fruit. Please try to eat it all. I think you are actually more hungry then you think you are." Adam winked at her, he knew her too well. Kim sat up and started to eat right away. As soon as she started she knew Adam was right, she was starving. She ate the whole plate of food and drank the bottle of water. Kim had been watching Allie playing with both Adam and Eric as she ate her snack. It wasn't the healthiest snack but at least it was something. She did notice that Adam had given her some fruit too. Kim wanted the kids to eat better and that meant fruit or veggies at every meal including snack time. Kim got up to put her plate in the kitchen and to grab another bottle of water. "Excuse me? What are you doing up? You are supposed to be resting!" Adam jumped up and grabbed her. Throwing her over his shoulder and took her back to the couch. Kim laughing hysterically and Allie giggling watching the crazy antics.

"Now stay put. I will be your personally nurse!" Adam winked, kissed her forehead and left for the kitchen. He returned with another bottle of water for her. Kim knocked him in the butt as he retreated causing him to chuckle as he walked away. "Miss Allie Cat. Why don't you go Love up on mom before you and daddy have to leave okay?" Adam wanted Kim to get as much loving as possible before a weekend away. "Okay Daddy Adam!" She jumped down and ran towards Kim jumping up on the couch and curled up next to her. Adam was on his phone texting the team and his dad trying to figure out what's happening with the case and arranging drop off of his son. Eric felt like a bit of an outsider in the home. But he was really trying to make this modern family thing work.

"Baby girl. We have to get going. Grab your bag so we can head out." Eric called out watching his daughter saying goodbyes to her mother and to Adam. "Bye sweetie. Enjoy your weekend with your daddy! Love you sweetheart!" Kim hugged her tight. As much as she hated Allie leaving for the weekend it was for the best. "Bye my little Allie Cat! Love you sweetie! See you Monday!" Adam hugged her tight before tickling her and letting her run to her dad. After they left the house Adam locked the doors and headed back to Kim to relax for a while. "Come here. Let's get you comfy and down for a nap." Adam wrapped her up in his arms and let her fall asleep on his chest.

When his father arrived with Riley Adam moved Kim so she was laying on the couch as he answered the door. "Hey pops. Hey buddy! Kimmie is napping so be quiet when you head inside okay." Adam placed Riley down to run inside, Bob came inside for a minute to catch up. "She okay?" Bob asked. "Yeah allergic reaction today which resulted in a trip to med. So it's been a long day already. They want her to rest all weekend. So Eric took Allie and it's just the three of us." Adam rubbed his face a bit and sighed. "Well I'm glad she's okay. And I know you, it's hard to let go. But he's her dad, she needs time with him too. She'll be back Monday. Alright I'm heading out, call if you need anything." Bob stated before leaving the home.

As the day continued the same car was still sitting across from the house watching. They had taken plenty of photos of every interaction at the door trying to figure out all the players in Adams life. They needed more information about his life as soon as possible. As soon as they had all the information they would make their presence known to him. And take back what is theirs.
