It was the week of thanksgiving and things were back on even keel for Kim and Adam. They moved past their issues and agreed to slow down to think and listen before jumping into situations. It had put them both at ease and gave them the strength to move forward. They had spent the weekend with the kids at the park after Kim spent all Saturday morning shopping for all the food. It was a crazy amount of food needed to feed so many people. But she wanted to it be perfect so she was going over the top on everything. The park had been a welcomed distraction for Kim. Giving her plenty of time to think of something other than Thanksgiving. After dropping the kids off with Kim's mom for the day the couple headed to work, hoping for some slower days. It didn't happen often but when it did it was such a blessing.

After they arrived the couple had one final kiss before going separate direction. Kim headed to the locker room to change in to her uniform and headed back down to lobby to wait for her partner Tay. As she waited she noticed it was getting late and no sign of Tay. "Platt where Tay? She's gonna be late." Kim asked confused. "Oh yeah she's sick. Your last minute replacement should be here any minute. And sorry your not gonna like it." Platt shrugged before walking away. Kim sighed wondering what horrible cop she got paired up with. It was more than 5 minutes later when she saw Rojas walking towards her. "Hey I guess we are partners today." Rojas said walking closer. "Um yeah I guess so. We better get going?" Kim replied as they started walking out.

They rode in the car in silence waiting for the radio to come to life. Kim had no idea what to say, yes she apologized but it still bothered her. "Look I know this is uncomfortable but I hope we can work together. Our lives are on the line." Rojas stated breaking the silence. "Agreed." Kim replied right as the radio came to life with a call. The address sounded familiar. "21-14 hold us down on that call." Kim called back as they headed to the location. "That address sounds so familiar. Not sure why but it does." Kim explained as they got closer. "Domestic Disturbance and Public Intoxication. Sounds easy enough." Rojas said. "No they are actually they some of the worse cases. Some of the most dangerous." Kim replied.

They got to the address, Kim realized why it was so familiar. She had been here lots of times before. "Okay Rojas you need to cuff the offender and I will tend to the victim." Kim stated. "Sir I need you to step away and put the weapon down." Kim called out. He hesitated but dropped the weapon as Rojas cupped him Kim assessed the victim. "21-14 I need forensics and an ambo to my location." Kim called into the radio. "Bunny. I need you to stop fighting me. You were stabbed in the abdomen. I need to apply pressure to stop the bleeding." Kim started talking while applying as much pressure as possible to the wound. "You! Your Voights bitch! Just like that other one! Don't touch me!" Bunny bitched at her trying to break free. "21-14 where is my ambo?" Kim called out again. "One minute out 21-14." Dispatch replied.

Rojas had the man in the car waiting for transport. The ambo pulled up and the paramedics jumped out rushing over. "What do we have?" They asked. "Women mid 50's. Stab wound to the abdomen. Names Barbara Fletcher. Please take her to Chicago Med." Kim rattled off. They took over working to stabilize Bunny as Kim tried to clean her hands of the blood. Kim watched closely while Rojas watched from a distance. "We gotta go! Let's move!" The paramedics shouted as they loaded the vehicle and rolled off. Kim returned to the car to drop the offender off at the district. "When we get back I'm gonna need a few minutes." Kim stated. "That was kind of ugly, back there." Rojas replied. "That actually wasn't that bad." Kim said while looking straight ahead.

They handed off the offender and headed inside. "Platt can you buzz me up? I need to talk to Erin." Kim asked pleading with her eyes. Platt nodded. Kim ran up the stairs into the bullpen walking towards Erin. "Hey Darling are you okay?" Adam saw her bloody hands. "Um yeah I'm good. I needed to talk to Erin." Kim replied but showed Adam the concern on her face. "Hey Er can I talk to you in the break room?" Kim asked shyly. "Yeah of course." Erin was worried and very confused. Jay followed closely behind. "Kim what's going on?" Jay asked as he closed the door. "Um so I was at scene today. The victim was your mom Erin. She has a stab wound to the abdomen. I tried to apply pressure but she lost consciousness. They took her to Med. I'm sorry I don't know more." Kim waited as Erin stood shocked. Jay pulled out his phone to call his brother for an update.

"Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. I need to go." Erin pushed past Kim and headed out past the team leaving them confused. "What the hell is going on in here!" Voight barked when he saw Erin and Jay running out of the bullpen. "Um Bunny was stabbed today. I was the responding officer. She of course was trash talking even while bleeding out. I don't know if she's gonna make it but Erin deserves to hear it from me." Kim shrugged. "Alright. Thank you for that. Now get cleaned up and head back out on patrol." Voight stated as Kim turned to leave nodding. Adam stood to hug her quickly before she left and headed to the locker room to wash up. As she washed up she noticed Rojas in the room with her. "So you knew that women?" Rojas asked watching Kim. "Um yeah. Since I was a kid." Kim shrugged. "She said some stuff to you about being Voights bitch. And you are just like the other one." Rojas didn't stop. "Yeah I know her daughter. It's not a big deal. I've dealt with worse." Kim shrugged it off, walking away before Rojas could continue talking.

"Ladies back out to it!" Platt barked as they walked by. "Of course Sergeant!" Kim waves as they left. They headed back to the car Kim knowing Rojas wanted to ask more questions. "Look just let it go. We have way bigger things to deal with than the past." Kim glared at her as they continued patrol. They continued on shift in silence. Kim didn't want to talk anymore. Adam and team was left worried for Erin and even Kim. "I wonder what she said to Kim . She looked pretty shaken." Kevin stated. "Well if it's anything like the last time I'm sure it's bitch and variations of that. She's not exactly the nicest person sober let alone injured." Al said as he leaned back in his chair. "Yeah I've known that women for years and she's a horrible person. Whatever she said to Kim is total crap and Kim will be able to shake it off." Antonio replied knowing Bunny was a piece of work.

"Did you know her before Adam?" Kevin asked. "Nah. Never met her. And truthfully I'm happy about that. I only ever knew Voight as Erin's parent. She never even mentioned her real mom to me. I heard about her from Kim but just minor details. Kim always said it wasn't her place to tell the story." Adam shrugged it off. "She's right about that. Good women you have there." Antonio stated giving Adam a knowing smile. "Yeah I know. She's amazing." Adam smiled knowing they were all right. "Dude! You look love sick!" Kevin laughed looking at Adam. "What? Why wouldn't I be? I lived with out her for 13 years and I never want to do it again. Now I found her again I'm not letting go. Mark my word, this is endgame!" Adam gave him a very knowing look. Kevin just nodded and returned to work.

As the shifts all came to an end the team plus Kim decided to head to Med to see Erin and Jay. They found Bunny's room right away thanks to the badges. As they stood outside the room Kim knocked and waited for someone to answer. "Hey." Jay stepped out whispering. "How's Erin doing? How Bunny?" Kim asked after giving Jay a quick hug. "Bunny's gonna live it looks like. Barring any infections. Erin is hanging tough. Wasn't pretty when Bunny woke to find a Erin the room. She tried her usual crap and then set in with the insults. She also mentioned seeing you today. I already know it wasn't pleasant but thank you for saving her life. I know Erin appreciates it." Jay hugged her tighter knowing it must have been traumatic for Kim as well. "You know I would never let her die, not on my watch. No matter what she said. I'm good though." Kim replied.

"Can we see Erin?" Kevin asked. "Um yeah let me get her." Jay headed back in the room to get Erin. "Hey the teams outside wanting to see you." Jay whispered. Erin slowly got up and headed to the door. "Hey guys! Kim! Thank you!" Erin hugged her tight. "No worries I got you! You, your family and even that whack ass mom of yours." Kim smiled wide watching Erin smile softly. "What's the prognosis?" Al asked. "Um they repaired the wound and all the organs, muscles, everything. It's going to be a long recovery but she should make a full recovery. She's starting detox now. So it's going to be an ugly night for sure." Erin explained. "Well we will let you be. Be safe, get rest and call if you guys need anything!" Antonio stated before hugging her. They all gave hugs before they left for the night.

It was pretty late by the time they got the kids home. Both kids were excited to see their parents but they both crashed out in the car. They carried the kids to bed before going to grab something to eat. Neither had eaten most of the day. They had been too worried about Erin to eat during the day but seeing things working out allowed them to relax again and eat something. "Maybe just a frozen pizza?" Adam suggested. "Yeah that's fine. I'm too tired to cook." Kim crashed on the couch, leaning her head back closing her eyes. "You sure your okay?" Adam asked as he turned on the oven. "Oh yeah. It's Bunny. I don't take her seriously at all. She's crazy especially when she's drunk and high. I promise I'm good." Kim explained without opening her eyes. "Doesn't help I got partnered with Rojas today. And she wouldn't stop asking questions about Bunny. It was exhausting." Kim explained further.

"Wait Rojas? The one who trash talked you but came here to apologize?" Adam asked watching her nod. "What happened to Tay?" Adam asked shocked and confused. "She was sick. It was last minute so all Platt could get was Rojas. I guess it's better than desk duty. And I got to save Bunny. It all worked out I think." Kim replied still with her eyes closed. "You did great Kim! I'm so proud of you. Not everyone could put all that aside to save a person who trashed them. I'm so so proud!" Adam leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Let me get you some pizza and then up to bed." Adam headed back to the kitchen to grab some pizza for Kim but also some wine. She really needed it.

"Darling! Here is your plate and some wine. Please just try to eat something." Adam begged as he handed her the plate and glass. "Thank you baby! I appreciate it. After this can we just relax in a long bath?" Kim asked with nothing but hope in her eyes. "Of course darling. Anything you need, I got you." Adam sat next to her as they both ate. Kim was zoned out, he had a feeling whatever Bunny said really had bothered her more than she was willing to admit to. Once done he took the plates to the kitchen and loaded the dishwasher. She was in the same space, same expression when he returned. He said nothing just held out his hand for her to take. He led her to the bedroom and sat her on the bed gently. "I'm gonna check on the kids then start your bath. Just relax." Adam offered as he headed out of the room again.

Once he saw the kids were safe and sound he headed into the bathroom to start the bath. While it was filling he walked back to Kim helping her to stand and undressing her gently. He took great care of her always but especially in these situations. "Come on let's get you in." Adam led her to the tub. "Please join me. I don't want to be alone." Kim pleaded with just her eyes. "Of course just me a minute to undress." Adam stripped his clothes quickly before stepping in the tub before helping her to enter. The couple just held on to each other for a long time neither saying a word just living in the silence. After the silence started to kill Adam he had to know what happened. "What exactly did she say? I can tell it's on your mind even if it's not totally nothing you." Adam whispered knowing she wasn't asleep yet.

"Umm she just called me a bitch. Or more specifically Voights bitch. Saying I was just like the other one, referring to Erin. The women is a total train wreck. And has been for decades. She was never a good mom to Erin or her half brother. The stuff Erin did to keep food on table and the heat on was unreal. Something no child should ever have to do. Even after Voight took Erin in Bunny was still trying to to use Erin for her schemes. Voight would always step in and save Erin but leave Bunny to fend for herself. Erin was 15 the last time she got caught up with Bunny. But every time we ran into her after that she was always nasty, rude and down right insulting. I'm pretty used to but Rojas just kept trying to figure out how I knew Bunny, I eventually said I knew her daughter but never said Erin's name. I just wanted the day over you know. The two just killed my energy and mood." Kim sighed before turning over to press her face against Adams chest.

"Sounds intense. So your telling me I knew Erin when she was getting into trouble with Bunny? I had no clue." Adam was surprised. "Yeah. Like I said Voight always got her out of trouble. And by that point it wasn't even the worst stuff. Mostly petty theft, buying junk for her mom. Jay gave her an ultimatum, him or Bunny. She pulled it together pretty quickly after that. I don't think she has talked to Bunny is at least 5 years maybe more." Kim explained with her eyes closed again. "Wow! I can't imagine what she went through. I'm glad she made it out. It's good you two had each other. I feel like you both got through it because you had a strong support system between you two." Adam kissed the side of her head softly before allowing her to have silence again. She really did need it.

Adam could feel her dozing off but he wasn't going to allow that, not yet at least. Once she was in the bed she could sleep all she wanted. "Darling. We need to get out of the tub and then you can sleep all you want in the bed." Adam woke up her gently before draining the tub. He helped her out and wrapped her in warm towel before he did that for himself. He dried her carefully before drying himself and then carrying her to the bed. She was barely in the bed 2 minutes before she was sound asleep. He covered her up before sliding in behind her. He wrapped his arm around her burying his face in her hair before he fell asleep as well.
