A/N: Hello everyone. I wanted to update this story as soon as the beginning of this month, but life is a butt and hit me square in the face. I've brought you another chapter. Happy reading :)
Previously on Destruction...
Mylene looked up at Blackmire as she took a tissue from the tissue box and dried her tears. "I'm terribly sorry for the breakdown. I'm usually not like this. I just... I can't believe this..."
"I understand. Shall we conduct this interview properly from this point?"
Mylene nodded and the proper questioning began.
~҉҉~҉҉~҉҉{҉҉ ҉҉}҉҉~҉҉~҉҉~҉҉
The questioning from both European officials wasn't as scary as Mylne thought it'd be. This girl underestimated herself a lot and that wasn't really her fault. She wanted to make her father proud as he was a famous mime of Paris. She wanted to follow in his footsteps, but not as a mime. Perhaps someone who wouldn't be scared of everything. At this moment, she imagined she was in a movie, but she wasn't the star.
Marinette was the star. Lila was the antagonist. And for Mylene, she was a supporting character who vowed to bring Marinette justice.
Both of the officials had asked her questions about Lila's behavior, to which she responded honestly. They even asked her about her friendship with Marinette as well. The girl with colorful braids replied, "She's the kind of girl anyone could look up to. Marinette helped Ivan confess his feelings for me, encourages one of the girls in my friend group to speak up while cheering her on. She does so much for us. Yet look where it got us. I could have lost a really good friend. I regret not believing Marinette over Lila. I wish I could go back in time."
"While you can't go back in time, you can start with an apology once Marinette is released from the institution." Blackmire had a calm and kind voice as she said what she said. The investigator felt relieved herself to learn that not everyone in Marinette's class were complete idiots. Not everyone in her class were blinded by this girl named Lila. Every time Blackmire thought of the girl named Lila, she knew every thought were in the negatives. With each student, she interviewed and questioned, she had to hold herself back so she wouldn't be saying that girl's name with hatred and venom.
Mylene nodded in an understanding manner.
Once the questioning was over, Crow got up from his seat, leaving his notes behind to walk Mylene back to class.
The student after her was a student by the name of Max Kante.
Investigator Blackmire did look into what kind of student this Max person was. A genius beyond his years in subjects such as math and science. That guy could easily get himself in a competitive college or university such as Stanford or something like that if that's what he wanted to do. Anyways, Blackmire found herself taking a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth. Since victim number six, Crow and herself hadn't had any leads of the whereabouts of this girl. While they had enough evidence to convict her of harassment and threats towards the other six girls, they never had anyone alive to tell their story about what Lila had done to them. The closest thing they had that they had to the voices of the other six girls were their friends who refused to talk and some diary entries. Marinette's parents didn't give them much. The thing was... well they never found a diary with her. Blackmire knew that as soon as Marinette was released from the mental hospital, she and her partner would be there to question her.
Blackmire leaned back slightly with her back touching the chair's back.
The head of this case wasn't her. Her supervisor requested she is put on this case because she already had some experience with this Lila girl. Detective Crow was just there to keep her in check so she wouldn't get out of hand. After all, hearing anything in regards to her daughter still haunted her. She pulled a picture from her pant pocket. The contents of the picture contained herself, her daughter, and her husband. All three of them were smiling as if nothing could ever hurt them. Yet, look where they were now. The man in the picture had divorced her shortly after their daughter committed suicide. In the past two or three years... had it been that long? Blackmire knew she was suppressing her feelings and memories. Eventually, she had to reach for outside help to guide her through her pain and guilt.
Blackmire found herself wanting to forget. That's exactly what she got when her partner came back with the student whose name was Max. She corrected her posture and gave a kind smile to Max. She outstretched her hand to him and introduced herself. "Max Kante, it's very nice to meet you. How are you today?"
Max took a seat across from Crow and Blackmire. He appeared to be very uncomfortable but replied to them anyways. "I'm well. Thank you for asking. What is this about? I'm aware you're investigating something, but I don't know. I also hope you don't mind if I brought my robot friend, Markov." he held out his hand slightly to introduce his little buddy. After all, this little robot friend was his comfort pal. Something, a creation he created himself.
"As long as he doesn't have recording properties on him that may interfere with the case. Then it's fine."
Markov floated next to Max and seemed eccentric. "It's an honor to meet you all. I am Markov. Max made me."
Crow clicked his pen once and scribbled something down despite the questioning that hadn't started yet.
"So," the investigator started. "Marinette is recovering, to say the least. What was she to you?"
"A friend who lost her way."
"I see. Would you say Marinette had any enemies at all?"
"The present or the past?"
Blackmire took note of Max's body language. While both of his arms were at his side, one of his legs were shaking. Now, that could mean a lot of things. Maybe he was doing it unconsciously and didn't realize he was doing it in the first place. Maybe he did it while he was in deep thought. Maybe it was something else. She didn't know. She was a professional when it came to the mind. The brain."The present."
His eyebrows furrowed slightly. "She made an enemy out of herself when a fellow classmate returned from her charity work."
Max was more willing to talk, but he was clever in avoiding the questions she asked him. "What's this fellow classmate's name?"
"Why do you need to know? I thought this was about Marinette. You guys are a part of the European Union of Law Enforcement Cooperation. What are you guys doing here when all Marinette did was an attempt at suicide?" he pushed his glasses up with both of his hands.
Blackmire and Crow looked at each other. This kid knew something was up, yet they both felt like he knew something as well. There was something he wasn't telling them. Like if he told, he would be dead the next day.
"I knew you were smart, but I didn't think you'd catch on so quickly. Crow and I are investigating a number of cases that involve this fellow classmate you speak of without saying her name. While we are unable to disclose the details, we are aware of her presence here in Paris. We have a suspicion that she pushed your classmate Marinette into suicide."
Max sighed softly and looked down at his feet. He then looked at Markov who seemed to signal something. "They are telling the truth, aren't they?"
"Telling the truth indeed."
The young genius looked up at both officials."Am I safe here?"
"We cannot guarantee your safety from akumas. Anything non-magical, we can."
He sighed in relief. The two officials who sat in front of him were in for a hell ride.
.
Victim number four was quite mature for her age. It was like she knew everything about all kinds of abuse as if she lived through it. She was a quiet student who only spoke when she was spoken to. She said things when they needed to be said. Many were fond of her. She was bullied often, but never did she pay any mind to it.
In the case files, victim number four's name is Rachelle Mitchells. While she never went by a nickname, everyone always called her Rae for short.
Her parents described her as the perfect child any parent could have. A child that never talked back to them and did as she was told. She never rebelled. She never bothered to fight back. She was precious to them.
Her younger sister described her as someone who had many insecurities. Things got to her even though she held a wall over herself to protect herself from the world.
When Rachelle's parents gave her a phone, she never bothered using it. After all, these days, having one was a terrible addiction to have. She had to focus on her studies and make her family proud by getting into one of those top schools.
While there is no physical or video evidence of Lila ever bothering Rachelle, her younger sister came forward when a case opened up. She was questioned and she gave evidence that linked Rachelle's suicide to Lila Rossi.
In the following audio, Fae Blackmire conducts a questioning with Gracie Mitchells, the youngest daughter of the family. Blackmire introduces herself. Gracie has a soft, yet strong voice. The following audio has some triggering topics. Viewer and hearing discretion is advised.
Blackmire: Why have you decided to come forward?
Gracie: The internet has a lot of information. I wanted to see if Lila was lying and clearly, she is.
Blackmire: Yes, the internet has quite a lot of useful information. Why do you choose to believe the information there? Not everything you see on the internet is true.
Gracie: My sister is dead. What I remember is that three other girls are dead. My sister won't be the last. Lila is stealthy. Isn't the three other girls enough to put her away?
Blackmire: You're a very smart girl. I wish it were that easy, but it isn't.
Gracie: You want justice just as much as I want it to.
The audio is so short because it ends here. Gracie gave the officials who were assigned to this case a suicide letter to only Gracie. In the case files for Rachelle Mitchells, the suicide letter is kept. The contents contain things such as conversations Rae and Lila shared. How Lila didn't stop harassing Rae after she kept quiet about what she knew. One of her male best friends whom she had a crush on was raped by Lila herself. She confronted Lila and asked her why. Why did she do it? Rae never got a direct answer. For the love of god, she was never going to find out unless she was dead. This male best friend had killed himself. He didn't leave a word behind. Only Rae knew what happened.
