Tony is narrating. He says that a famous man once said that 'we create our own demons.' A suit is blown up. Tony asks who said it and why it matters. Another suit blows up. He says that it doesn't matter and that he said it because the other man said it. The third suit blows up. He says that the man was famous and not its being said by two well known guys.
The Avengers and SHIELD agents were confused. Why was Tony blowing up his suits.
Tony himself was also confused as to why he would blow up the suits.
Tony says that he's going to start again and he's going to track it from the beginning.
"Track what from the beginning?" Pepper asked, knowing she would receive no answer because this hasn't happened yet.
The song 'I'm Blue' Starts playing.
The teenagers start singing along and dancing in their chairs.
'1999' Appears on the screen. 'Bern, Switzerland' Also appears.
'Switzerland?' Tony thought, why start here?
"Isn't that where you first met Yinsen, but you didn't remember it?" Bruce asked.
'New years eve' Appears on screen. Inside a large amount of people are standing and talking. Tony is talking with Maya Hanson. She blows a noise maker in his face. He smiles. Happy turns around and says that there's 30 minutes until the ball drops.
Pepper, Rhodey and Tony started laughing. "Your hair!"
A man walks up to them and compliments Tony's speech.
Happy moves the guy away. Tony asks if he gave a speech and how it was.
"You forgot that you gave a speech, why am I not surprised?" Fury asked.
Happy says it was edifying.
Maya says it was unintelligible.
A few people laughed.
Tony says that that's his favorite kind and that they're a winning combo.
Rhodey looked confused. "I don't think that-"
Maya asks where they're going.
Tony says that they're going to town on each other in her room.
Everyone sighed, exasperated.
Tony says he also wants to see her research.
Maya says he can see her research but she won't show him her town. 'town'."
Yinsen notices them, walks up to them and introduces himself as 'Ho Yinsen.'
Tony makes a comment about finally meeting a man called 'Ho.'
"Scratch that one off the bucket list, I guess." Clint said.
They shake hands. Yinsen says he'd like to introduce them to Dr. Wu.
Tony makes a comment about Maya needing a cardiologist after-. Instead of speaking he plows his noisemaker 3 times.
"You are disgusting." Pepper said.
"And immature." Rhodey added.
Tony and Maya walk away. Yinsen says that can talk at another time.
"Wish that other time was under better circumstances." Tony said quietly.
Tony's voice over starts back up. He says that it started in Bern, Switzerland.
"What Started in Bern, Switzerland?" Steve asked.
Happy, Maya and Tony are walking in a crowded hotel lobby.
'Is that Aldrich Killian?' Pepper asked herself
Killian walks up to them and calls out to Tony.
Tony's voiceover says that he never thought they would come back to bite him. He asks why they would.
"What did you do?" Rhodey asked quietly, so no one could hear him.
The three of them, along with some other people step into an elevator. Killian introduces himself and tells Maya and says he's a big fan of her work.
Maya questions him. Tony says that Killian meant him.
"Bold claim." Natasha said.
Killian tells Maya that his organization has been tracking her research since year 2 of MIT.
Happy tries to stop him from getting in the elevator. Killian ducks underneath his arm. Tony makes a comment about Killian making the cut.
"Really?" Hope asked.
Happy asks Killian what floor he's going to.
Killian says that that's an appropriate question.
"Well... you are in an elevator." Sam said.
Killian says that he's going to the ground floor because he has a proposal he's putting together. He says that its a privately funded think tank called Advanced Idea Mechanics.
He holds out two business cards. Tony says that Maya will take both.
"Is this part of you not liking being handed things or are you intentionally being rude?" Steve asked.
"Uh- both." Tony answered.
Tony says that one is to throw away and the other is to not call.
"Why are you being so mean to the poor guy?" May asked.
Killian says that its called Advanced Idea Mechanics or AIM for short. He points to his shirt and asks if Tony gets it.
Tony says he sees it because it's on Killians t-shirt.
"So condescending." Loki said.
The elevator door opens. Tony tells the ladies to follow the mullet.
Maya exits the elevator then tells Killian that she'll call him.
Tony stops Killian from leaving as the women exit the elevator and says that he's thrilled by the notion of working with him.
"That's a lie." Natasha said.
Tony says that he'll ditch the people he's with and he'll meet Killian on the roof in 5 minutes.
"Except you didn't, did you?" Clint asked, already knowing the answer. Of course he forgot.
He says that he's going to go and get is beak wet and asks Killian if he knows what he means.
"Gross." Pepper said to Tony and hit him.
The elevator door starts closing. Killian says he'll see Tony up there.
"You didn't go to the roof did you?" Coulson asked.
"I did not." Tony responded.
Tony, Maya and Happy are in Maya's hotel room. Tony and Maya are looking at a computer. Tony says that he thought it was just a theory.
Maya says that it was and if she's right they can access the area of the brain that governs repair and chemically re-code it.
"That is incredible." Bruce said.
Tony says that its incredible.
Together they says that they're essentially hacking into the genetic operating system of a living organism.
"Aw, you're finishing each others sentences." Natasha said.
Happy starts messing with her plant. Maya tries to ask him to stop.
Happy questions her. Maya asks him not to touch her plant.
Tony says that the plant isn't like the others. He tells Maya that they should go to the bedroom and tells Happy to leave Maya's ficus alone.
"You really aren't very subtle." Scott said.
Tony takes the laptop into the bedroom. Maya follows him and tells Happy not to touch the plant.
"Wait, I'm confused, why can't you touch it?" Bruce asked.
"Apparently there was like a glitch or something." Happy answered.
Inside the bedroom, Maya and Tony are still talking about her work. Tony asks if he's starting with plants.
Maya says that she is for now and that she's calling it Extremis.
Happy rips a leaf off the plant.
"She said not to touch it, dude." Clint said.
"Yeah, why did you have to touch it, man." Scott said.
The leaf starts to grow back.
"Whoa." Shuri said.
"That's pretty amazing." Peter said.
Maya says that its dendritic revitalization.
Tony says that its revolutionary.
Maya says it can help with disease prevention.
Tony says that it can change the world.
"It can also be very dangerous." Strange said, seeing that there was a flip side.
Maya says it can help limbs regrow.
Tony calls her the most gifted woman he's ever met.
"How hard was that to say?" Maria asked.
Maya seems impressed.
Tony continues his statement by adding the words 'in Switzerland.'
"Yep." Natasha said.
Maya says that that's better and asks if he's seeing things.
Tony finishes his statement by adding the words 'this week.'
"There we go." Pepper said.
Maya takes Tony's glasses off and puts them on. Tony says that she almost bought it.
"I don't think she did for a second." Peggy said.
Happy closes the door. Tony and Maya kiss. Something blows up.
"What the hell?" Sam asked.
Maya says that this was what she meant when she said there was a glitch.
"The glitch makes it blow up!?" Bruce asked.
Tony asks if she checked the telomerase algorithm.
Happy runs in and tackles Tony onto the bed and tells him to stay down.
"A little too eager are we, Happy?" Natasha asked.
Tony says that they're good and that he made it because Happy is right on top of him.
People outside are counting down. Happy asks what happened.
Maya says that it was the glitch in her work.
Happy says that its not Y2K.
"Please tell me you didn't actually believe that bs." Strange said.
People outside start cheering. They all says 'Happy New Year.'
Tony tells Happy that he'll see him in the morning. Happy leaves.
Killian is shown, waiting for Tony, who never shows.
A few people sighed. Others felt bad for the guy.
Tony's voice over starts again. He asks why he's saying this.
"Are we finally gonna find out?" Clint asked.
Voiceover Tony says that he just created demons and he didn't realize.
'Killian' Everyone thought. What is he going to to in the next 13 years?
Tony writes something on the back of his name-tag, then picks up his glasses and leaves. Maya looks behind her when she hears the door close. Tony's voiceover says that those were good times but he moved on. He says he said goodbye to the party scene after a brief soiree in an Afghan cave.
A few people gave him disbelieving looks. "Okay mostly."
'Present day. Malibu, California.' Appears on the screen. Voiceover Tony says that he forgot about the night in Switzerland an that he's different and he's a changed man.
Tony is shown injecting himself with little devices. JARVIS says counts it as 47.
"What the hell are you doing now?" Rhodey asked.
JARVIS suggests that Tony should take a few hours to calibrate.
Tony says no and injects himself again, counting it as 48.
'What is he injecting himself with.' The avengers thought, worried.
Tony says that the micro-repeater implanting sequence is complete and he wipes the blood off of his arm.
"Why are you putting those into your body?" Shuri asked.
JARVIS says that he's prepared a safety briefing for Tony to ignore.
"Ah, JARVIS, you know me so well." Tony said.
Tony says that he will.
"I really wish you wouldn't" Vision said.
"I agree, you probably shouldn't ignore those." Bruce said.
Tony stands up. He looks at Dum-E who's sweeping. He asks him how he got the cap on his head then says that he earned it.
"Earned it? The cap says dunce." Clint said.
"Yes and I'm sure you know by now that Dummy is an idiot." Tony said.
Tony stands up and gives a few punches to a pole in front of him he asks why Dummy is in the corner and says that he knows what he did. He tells him to clean up the blood on his mat.
"You put your robots in time out?" Shuri asked, with a laugh. To be fair she would probably do the same thing.
JARVIS remind Tony that he's been awake for almost 72 hours.
"Whoa hold up, that's 3 days. That's not healthy." Strange said.
"Why haven't you been sleeping?" Rhodey asked.
Tony shrugged, this was the future, he didn't know. Maybe he just couldn't sleep.
Tony's standing on a platform in his lab. He welcomes them to the birthing suite and says that he's pleased to announce the arrival of their bouncing, badass baby brother.
A few people started snickering.
"You really like alliteration don't you?" Clint asked.
"You only just now noticed?" Tony asked.
Tony gives his robot camera directions. Then says that he's testing the mark 42 autonomous prehensile propulsion suit.
'Mark 42? How the hell did Tony make 36 suits in less than a year?' Pepper thought worried.
"How did you make 36 suits in just a few months?" Bruce asked thinking that maybe it had something to do with Tony's sudden lack of sleep.
Tony initializes the sequence. His suit starts powering up.
Everyone caught on to what he was doing. "So you injected yourself with those things to call the suit to you." Steve said. Everyone gave him a 'duh' look.
Tony tells JARVIS to drop his needle. A jazzy rendition of jingle bells starts playing. Tony starts nodding his head to the music.
A few people laughed at his odd music choice.
He holds out his arms to call the suit, but nothing happens. He tries again.
"So it didn't work." Pepper said.
He bites his arm and hits them together.
"When did we universally decide that hitting something would make it work again?" Peter asked.
"Or turning off and back on again." Ned added.
He holds them out again and this time three pieces of the suit attach themselves to his arm.
A few people were impressed. "Nice." Quill said.
He holds his arms out again in flipped positions, a fourth piece attaches itself. Tony says that he's got this and ays to send them all.
"Let's not get to cocky." Rhodey said, having a feeling something would inevitably go wrong.
Two more pieces fly to him and attach to his leg. A piece flies behind him and crashes into one of the display cases behind him. Another comes for his head he raised his arms to block it, the piece his a light.
"That's why we don't get cocky." Rhodey said.
Tony says that this was probably too fast and says to slow it down a little. He ducks under another piece coming for his head.
A few people started laughing.
Another piece comes at him, it hits a pipe instead. Two another piece attaches itself to his other leg and one to his groin, tony groaned in pain.
A few men in the room winced in time with on-screen tony.
One hits his back, and he's thrown off of the platform. He activates his flight stabilizers and gets back on his feet and asks JARVIS to cool it.
"I'm starting to think JARVIS likes seeing me in pain." Tony said.
A piece attaches itself to his chest. Two more to his arm. The face-plate hits the table causing the music to stop.
"No not the music." Ned said.
Tony tells it that he isn't scared of it.
"Of course you're not." Pepper said.
The face-plate flies over, getting knocked upside down as it hits the table. Tony flips and it attaches itself. He says that he's the best. ]
"I wouldn't go that far." Coulson said.
One more piece hits him and the armor falls apart. Tony is sent to the floor.
Everyone laughed. "Don't get too cocky." Natasha said.
JARVIS says that it's always a pleasure watching Tony work.
"JARVIS, you little sadist." Tony said.
Tony's voice over starts again. He says that 72 hours might be a long time between siestas.
"Oh now you understand that!?" Rhodey and Pepper yelled.
Voiceover Tony says that he didn't think it could get worse until he turned on the TV and 'he' happened. Footage of the mandarin is shown.
"When who happened?" Clint asked.
"I guess that's what we'll find out." Natasha said.
The mandarin says that some people call him a terrorist.
"Okay so he's a terrorist." Tony said.
He says he considers himself a teacher and asks America if they're ready for another lesson. He says that in 1864 in Sand Creek, Colorado the United States military waited until the Cheyenne braves had all gone hunting so they can attack and slaughter their families left behind. He says that 39 hours ago the Ali Al Salem air base located in Kuwait was attacked. He takes the credit for it.
"Why would he willingly and publicly take credit for something like that?" T'Challa asked.
"Well, some people just love the theatrics." Tony guessed.
He says compares the 2 attacks and says that President Ellis continues to refuse his lessons. He says that they know who he is but the don't know where he is and that they'll never see him coming.
"Could he be planning to kill the president?" Rhodey asked.
A reporter says they should recap some of the frightening- she gets cut off.
Another reporter says that American airwaves were hijacked.
Another reporter says that the nation is on high alert.
Another reporter says that the attempts to find the Mandarin have been unsuccessful.
"How long has this been going on for?" Sam wondered.
President Ellis is talking to a group of reporters. He says introduces Colonel James Rhodes and says that he will be the Iron Patriot. Rhodey walks up in red white and blue armor.
"Iron patriot?" Tony asks, laughing. Rhodey sighed. "That's so stupid." He says still laughing.
"Laugh it up." Rhodey said.
"He's like Iron man and Captain America in one. *Gasp* Iron America!" Shuri said. More people started laughing.
Bill Maher says that President Ellis is responding to the Mandarin situation by taking the man called War Machine and giving him a paint job
Joan Rivers says that its the same suit but its painted red, white and blue. She says that they also renamed him Iron Patriot in case the paint was too subtle.
More people joined in on the laughter.
Tony and Rhodey are in a bar watching this on TV. Rhodey says that it tested well with focus groups.
"I am Iron Patriot." Tony says in a deep voice.
The laughter erupted again. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Tony said, as he stopped laughing, wiping tears away.
Tony says that it sucks.
"It does."
Rhodey says that War Machine was too aggressive and that Iron Patriot sends a better message.
"Yeah, I gotta agree with you on that." Scott said.
Tony asks what's going on with the Mandarin and if they can talk about it.
Everyone leaned forward, hoping to get an answer as well. "Tony you know I'm not gonna be able to talk about that." Rhodey said.
Rhodey says that the information is classified.
Everyone sighed.
Rhodey tells him that there have been 9 bombings.
"Shit." A few people breathed out.
Tony repeats the number.
Rhodey says that the public only knows about 3 of them.
"Why tell the general population about 3 but keep the other 6 a secret?" Thor asked.
"Any number of reasons really." Maria answered.
Rhodey says that they can't ID a device because there are no bomb casings.
"That's strange." Shuri said. Noises of agreement were heard.
Tony says that he can help and that he has a lot of new tech. He says that he has a prehensile and a new bomb disposal that catches the explosions in mid-air.
Rhodey asks Tony when the last time he got a good nights sleep was.
Tony says that Einstein only slept 3 hours a year.
"I wouldn't consider him a role model." Strange said.
Rhodey tells Tony that he's concerned about him.
Tony asks him if he's really going to come at him like that.
'He's getting defensive.' Natasha noticed, sensing there was something else going on rather than just general insomnia.
Rhodey says that he's not trying to be a dictator. He adds the suffix when 2 kids walk up to their table.
"Nice save." Happy said.
The girl asks if Tony can sign her drawing.
Tony says he will if Rhodey doesn't mind, calling him Richard. He asks Rhodey if he's alright with it and calls him Dick.
Rhodey glared at Tony, who was laughing.
Rhodey says that its fine with him.
Tony asks for the girls name.
The girl tells him that it's Erin. Tony looks at the drawing which is him carrying the nuke into the wormhole.
Tony turns to the little boy and tells him that he loved him in 'A Christmas Story.'
"Oh my god." Scott laughed.
"He does look like that kid, though." Clint said.
Rhodey says that the Pentagon is scared. He starts talking about the aliens in New York and says that the Pentagon needs to look strong after that. Tony looks up and nods. Rhodey says that the priority is to stop the Mandarin.
Tony, distracted writes 'Erin help me' on the paper.
The avengers and SHIELD agents looked confused and worried. What was wrong with Tony?
Tony says that its not superhero business and he gets it.
Rhodey says that its American business.
Tony says that that's why he said he got it. The crayon breaks.
Rhodey asks him if he's okay.
Tony says that he broke the crayon.
Erin asks Tony if he's okay.
"You're not looking too good, Tony." Rhodey said.
"I don't know what's wrong with me." Tony said.
Rhodey tells him to take it easy. His voice fades away.
The little boy asks Tony ow he got out of the wormhole. Tony gasps and stands up.
"The wormhole?... is that what's causing this?" Pepper asked.
Tony stiffened at the mention of it.
Rhodey stands up as well and tells Tony to wait.
Tony walks out of the bar, holding his chest and breathing heavily.
'Okay there was definitely something wrong here.' Natasha confirmed in her head. 'Tony's having a panic attack'
Tony stumbles into someone then apologizes. He says that he needs to check on the suit. He gets into the suit and falls to his knees.
Tony cringed. He lost his composure in public... again.
Tony asks JARVIS to check his heart and brain.
JARVIS says that there is no sign of a cardiac anomaly or unusual brain activity.
Tony asks if he was poisoned.
"That's your first theory?" Strange asked.
JARVIS says that his diagnosis is that Tony experienced a severe anxiety attack.
"As usual, JARVIS is correct." Natasha said quietly.
Tony looked shocked, why would he be having anxiety attacks?
Others gave him knowing looks. Tony has PTSD. Because of the wormhole, why had they not thought this would happen is beyond them.
Tony, incredulously, asks 'me?'
"I don't know why you're so surprised, what with some of the stuff you've been through." Rhodey said.
Rhodey says that this isn't a good look and tells Tony to open up.
Tony apologizes and says that he has to split then he flies off.
"Tony, man don't do that." Rhodey said.
"Do what?" Tony asked.
"Don't close yourself off like that, not again." He said.
Happy is walking through the halls at Stark Industries telling people to wear their badges and that he put a memo in the bathroom.
"Happy don't turn into that guy please." Tony said.
Happy is now talking with Pepper he says that Tony has his robot in his basement wearing party hats and that they can be put to use.
"Or they can remain in my basement." Tony said.
Pepper asks if Happy suggesting that they replace the janitorial staff with robots.
"That's a terrible idea, they're all incapable of the simplest tasks." Tony said.
"Then why don't you upgrade them?" Shuri asked.
"Why would I do that?" Tony asked.
happy says that the human element of human resources is their biggest vulnerability and that they should start phasing it out.
"What? That doesn't make any sense." Pepper said.
Happy gets distracted by another employee, Pepper gets him back on track and says that she's thrilled that he's teh head of security because its the perfect position for him.
Happy thanks her.
"There's a 'but.'" Natasha said, Happy looked confused.
Pepper says 'however'
"See."
Happy, ignoring her, says that he appreciates it.
Pepper tries to tell him what's been happening since he's taken the job.
Happy tells her that she doesn't have to thank him.
"Good, 'cause she's not." Hope said.
Pepper say that they have had a rise in staff complaints of 300% since he's taken the job.
"Jesus, Happy how many people did you piss off?" Tony asked.
Happy thanks her.
"Wasn't a compliment..." Maria said.
Pepper says that its not a compliment.
Happy says it is and that someone is clearly trying to hide something.
"No. I don't think they are." Pepper said.
Pepper's assistant walks up to them and tells Pepper that her 4 o' clock is there. Pepper thanks her.
Happy asks if the 4 o' clock was cleared with him.
"Happy, stickler is not a good look on you." Tony said.
Pepper tells Happy that they can talk later but at the moment she needs to deal with a very annoying thing.
happy questions her. Pepper tells him that she used to work with the guy and he used to ask her out all the time so it's awkward.
Tony moved closer to Pepper.
Happy leans to whisper in his ear. "Tony, jealous is not a good look on you." Tony glared at him.
Happy says that he doesn't like the sound of that.
They walk into her office and see Killian standing there, no longer disabled and no more dorky glasses. They greet each other.
"That's Killian!?" Everyone yelled.
"The future has been kind to him." Pepper said.
"I wonder how he did it." Shuri said.
Killian tells Pepper that she looks great.
Pepper tells Killian that he hools great and asks what he's been doing.
Killian says that he spent 5 years in the hands of physical therapists.
"I think there was more than physical therapy." Coulson said.
Happy tells Killian that he was supposed to be issued a security badge.
Pepper turns around and tells him that it's okay and he can stand down.
Happy says that he's going to linger. Then he leaves.
"You don't trust him." Peggy observes.
Pepper tells Killian that its nice to see him.
Savin is sitting in a chair, he picks up a magazine. Happy calls out to him and points to his badge.
Savin picks up his badge from the table next to him, he lifts his leg up to the arm of the chair.
"He looks sketchy." Clint observed. He received noised of agreement.
Killian says that after ears of dodging President Ellis' ban on immoral biotech research his think tank has something in the pipeline and that they call it Extremis.
"Wasn't that what Maya Hanson was working on?" Bruce asked.
"It was..." Tony said slowly.
"You don't think..." Rhodey started but trailed off.
"Killian used Extremis to cure his disability. That's exactly what I think." Tony said.
"What if he doesn't know about the glitch? The result could be catastrophic." Bruce said.
"But we don't know for sure that he used it on himself let's not close all of the doors yet." Rhodey said.
Killian says that he's going to dim the lights. The lights turn off. He holds out three small metal balls. He tells her to regard the human brain. He slides the balls onto the table, a projection of a galaxy appears. Killian says that that's the universe.
"Show-off." Tony muttered.
He presses a button and now a brain is being projected. He tells her that its the brain. He says that its strangely mimetic. "
Pepper tells him that its amazing.
Killian thanks her and says that its his.
"That's a projection of his brain?" Bruce asked. "That's pretty cool."
Pepper questions him. Killian tells her that they're inside his head and that its a live feed and he can prove it to her. He stands on the table and holds his hand out for Pepper. He tells her to pinch him. Pepper does so and something lights up in the brain projection.
"Whoa." Shuri, Ned and Peter said.
Pepper asks what it was.
Killian says that it was the primary somatosensory cortex and says that its the brain's pain center. He zooms in on the image. He says that Extremis harnesses their bio-electrical potential. He says that there's an empty slot and that it tells them that the mind and their DNA is destined to be upgraded.
"Maybe that's not such a good idea." Strange said. Could Killian not see how dangerous this was?
Happy's tablet starts ringing. He answers it, holding the tablet high above his head.
"That's not how you're supposed to hold it." Tony said.
Tony asks if he's forehead of security.
"He said forehead of security." Ned said, laughing.
Happy sighed, he probably wasn't gonna live that down.
He lowers the tablet and says that he has a real job and he's working. He asks Tony what he wants and says he has something going on.
Tony is walking through his lab. He asks Happy if he's harassing interns.
"Harassing people who won't wear badges and trying to replace janitors with robots." Pepper corrected.
Happy asks Tony if he knows what happened when he told people he was Iron Man's body guard, then answers the question by saying that they laughed in his face. Tony laughs.
"I can't imagine why they would do that." Tony said sarcastically.
Happy says he needed to leave while he still had a shred of dignity and that he now has a real job watching Pepper.
Tony asks what's going on.
Happy asks if he's serious.
Tony says he is.
Happy says that Pepper's meeting with this rich, handsome scientist and says that he couldn't make his face at first and says that he's usually good with faces.
"You're the best." Tony said.
Tony tells him that he's the best.
Tony blinked. That was odd.
Happy says he ran the credentials and tells Tony that the guy is Kilian and says that they met him before and asks where the science conference in 1999 was. "
Tony says it was in Switzerland and tells Happy that he doesn't remember Killian.
"Of course you wouldn't." Rhodey said.
Happy tells him that he wouldn't because he isn't a blond with a big rack. He says that Killian and Pepper were talking about business and that Killian is showing her his big brain.
"You know I can't imagine how weird that would sound without any context." Clint said.
Tony questions him. Happy repeats himself and says he'll show him. He holds the camera toward Pepper's office.
"You forgot to flip the screen." Peter said.
Tony asks if he's supposed to look at Happy watching Pepper and Killian then tells him to flip the screen.
Happy says that he isn't a tech genius like Tony is.
"You don't need to be a tech genius to know how to flip the camera around." Rhodey said.
Happy tells Tony to trust him and get down there.
Tony tells him to flip the screen so he can see what they're doing.
Happy says he doesn't know how to flip the screen.
"You're hopeless, Happy." Tony said.
"Don't talk to me like that anymore. You're not my boss." Happy said.
"That sentence has a lot of 'you're not my dad energy'." Peter said.
Tony brings up a small profile on Killian with his phone, after reading it he swipes it back down. Happy tells Tony not to talk to him like that because he doesn't work for him. He says that he doesn't trust Killian. He says that Killian brought someone with him and that he's shifty.
"Yeah, I picked up on that too." Peggy said.
Tony tells Happy to relax.
Happy asks if he's serious.
Tony says he's asking Happy to secure the perimeter and tell the guy to go out for a drink.
Happy tells Tony that he should be more interested in what's going on because Pepper is the best thing that's ever happened to him and he's ignoring her.
Tony and Pepper looked at each other, then back at the screen.
Tony asks about the giant brain.
Happy says that there's a giant brain and a shifty character. He says he's going to follow them and get his plates and it doesn't matter if it gets rough.
"Maybe you should have said that quieter." Natasha said.
Tony tells Happy that he misses him.
Happy says he misses the way they used to be. He says that Tony's off with his 'super-friends' and he doesn't know what's going on with him. He says that the world's getting weird.
The avengers all glanced at one another.
Tony says he hates to cut him off, then asks Happy if he has his taser on him.
Happy asks why.
Tony says that he thinks theres a girl in HR who's trying to steal printer ink and Happy should go zap her then he locks his phone in the wine fridge.
"Real mature, Tony." Rhodey said.
Killian tells Pepper to imagine if she could hack into the hard drive of a living organism and recode its DNA.
"That sounds good on the surface, but there are too many complications." Shuri said.
Pepper says that it would be incredible but it sounds very weaponizable.
"Correct." Coulson said.
Pepper starts talking about enhanced soldiers and private armies and tries to talk about how Tony would feel about it.
"Tony is not wanting to be directly involved in those types of things anymore." Tony finished.
Killian says that he invited Tony to join aim 13 years ago but he turned him down.
"That's not exactly how it happened, but..." Tony said.
Killian says that there's a new genius on the throne who doesn't have to answer to Tony and has less of an ego.
Pepper tells him that the answer is no.
"Good. There's something off-putting about this guy." Natasha said.
They are now outside of the building. Killian says he can't say he isn't disappointed. He says that his father used to say that 'failure is the fog through which we glimpse triumph.'
"What does that even mean?" Scott asked.
Pepper says that that's very deep and she doesn't know what it means.
Killian says that he doesn't know either and that his dad was an idiot. He tells Pepper that he'll see her again soon.
"That doesn't sound creepy at all." Peter said.
Killian kisses her on the cheek.
Tony glared at the screen.
Happy walks up to her and says that the car is ready if she is.
Pepper says that she forgot some things and she goes back inside.
Happy stares at Killian's car and takes a picture of it.
"Smart." Clint said.
