Thor walks into the observatory. Heimdall tells him that he's late.
Thor says that marriment can sometimes be a heavier burden than battle.
Heimdall says that he's doing one of them incorrectly.
A few people laughed.
Thor laughs and asks about the stars.
Heimdall says that they're still shining. He says that from where he is he can see nine realms and 10 trillion souls.
Everyone's eyes widened. Heimdall really is all-seeing.
Heimdall asks Thor if he remembers what he told him about the convergence.
Thor says that it's the alignment of worlds, and says that its approaching.
Heimdall says that the universe hasn't seen it since before his watch began.
"How often does the convergence happen?" Natasha asked.
"Approximately every 5,000 years." Thor said. He, himself has never actually witnessed it, but he's heard the stories that have been passed down.
Heimdall says that few can sense it and fewer can see it. He says that a world that's infected can be dangerous and says that it's beautiful.
Thor says that he sees nothing.
"Maybe you're not looking hard enough." Valkyrie said.
Heimdall suggests that that's not the beauty he seeks.
Thor asks how Jane is.
"If you visited her you would know." Natasha said, not unkindly.
Heimdall says that she is clever. He says that she is studying the convergence but she doesn't know it. Heimdall abruptly starts talking.
Thor asks what it is.
Heimdall says that he can't see Jane.
"That can't be good." Wanda said.
Jane is being infected with the Aether.
"Jane." Thor gasped.
"I take it that isn't supposed to happen." Steve said.
Jane wakes up, back in the factory. She runs outside, there are 3 police cars. Darcy runs up to her and asks where she was.
Jane asks Darcy to tell her that she didn't call the police.
"Well, the police are there so I don't know what to tell you." Clint said.
Darcy asks what she was supposed to do.
Jane tells her that she wasn't supposed to call the police.
Darcy says that she was freaking out.
Jane says that when she calls the cops, the cops call the feds and they next thing they know SHIELD is there area 51ing the place.
"Nice to know she still doesn't like you guys." Tony said. Fury rolled his eye.
Darcy tries to get her attention.
Jane says that they had a stable gratification anomaly and unheeded access to it. She says that their only competition was 10 years old.
Darcy says that she was gone for 5 hours.
"What?"
Jane looks confused. It starts raining, none of it hitting them.
"You can do that?" Bruce asked. Thor nodded.
Jane sticks her hand outside of the circle. She looks over and sees Thor standing there.
"You people seem to have a thing for dramatic entrances." Hope said.
She hands Darcy the device and walks over to him, the dry circle following her. Darcy comments about it being typical as the rain falls on her.
"Poor Darcy." Valkyrie said.
Thor greets her. Jane slaps him across the face.
Loki and Valkyrie started laughing. Thor just sighed and put his head in his hands.
"Women do seem to have a thing for hitting you in the face, don't they?" Loki asked.
Thor now looked panicked. "Don't" He warned.
Loki sighed. "Fine."
Jane apologizes and says that she needed to make sure Thor was real because she's had a very strange day.
Thor says he is. She slaps him again.
This time everybody laughed.
Jane asks him where she was.
Thor asks her where she was and says that Heimdall couldn't see her.
"That's not what she meant, Thor." Gamora said.
Jane says that she was where he left her. She says that she was waiting, the crying. She says that she went looking for him and reminds him that he said he would come back.
Thor looked away from the screen, a guilty look on his face. He should have found time to visit her.
Thor tells her that the Bifrost was destroyed and the nine realms were chaos. He says that wars were waging and marauders were pillaging and he needed to stop the slaughter.
Jane says that that wasn't a terrible excuse.
A few people laughed. It wasn't actually a terrible excuse.
She says that she saw him on TV and he was in New York.
He says that he fought to protect her from the dangers of his world but he was wrong. He says that he is a fool.
"Finally admit it?" Loki teased.
"Shut up, Loki." Thor said.
He says that he believes fate brought them together. He says that he doesn't know where she was or what happened but he knows one thing.
The awkwardly stumble through their questions, then they almost kiss. Darcy runs over to them.
"That was adorably awkward." Peggy said.
Darcy asks if the rain was Thor. The rain abruptly stops.
Jane says that she and Thor are in the middle of something.
Darcy says that they're being arrested.
"Why would they be getting arrested?" Quill asked.
"My best guess is trespassing." Tony said.
Jane says to hold the thought and runs over to a cop.
"I don't think he was doing much thinking." Valkyrie said.
Darcy comments about Thor being all muscly and asks how space is.
Thor says that space is fine.
"Broad statement." Steve said.
"It is a broad question." Thor countered.
Jane is talking to an officer. The officer asks if she's Jane Foster.
Jane says she is.
He asks if she knows Ian.
She says that he's her intern's intern.
A few people sighed.
The officer says that they're trespassing on private property and they'll have to come with him.
"Called it." Tony said.
The officer goes to grab her arm but the force of the Aether knocks everyone back.
"Whoa!"
Thor looked panicked. What was happening to Jane? What was the Aether doing to her? Is he going to be able to help her?
Thor runs over to her. Jane is lying on the floor. Thor asks if she's okay.
Jane asks what happened.
"The Aether protected her." Strange said.
"The Aether protected itself." Loki corrected.
The officer approaches them apprehensively. Thor helps Jane stand. The officer tells her to place her hands on her head.
"You really wanna try that again?" Natasha asked.
Thor says that she is unwell.
The officer says that she's dangerous.
Thor says that he is too.
The officer, in his radio, requests for backup.
Thor tells Jane to hold onto him.
Jane asks what he's doing. The bifrost opens and takes them to Asgard.
'Father wont take kindly to that'. Thor thought.
Jane says that they have to do that again once they enter the observatory. She sees Heimdall and greets him.
Heimdall welcomes her to Asgard.
"Great welcoming committee." Peter said.
'Svartalfheim' appears on the screen.
"It looks the same as it did after the war was over." Steve noticed.
Malekith, in Shiväisith, tells Algrim to look at his legacy and says he barely remembers a time before the light.
Algrim, in Shiväisith, says that their survival will be his legacy.
Malekith, in Shiväisith, says that the Asgardians will suffer as they have and says that he will reclaim the Aether and put an end to this poisonous world.
"They're planning to do it again." Thor said, grimly.
Jane is lying on a table, healers surrounding her, Thor watches over. Jane asks what the thing is that's surrounding her.
Eir tells her to be still.
Thor notices that the Aether isn't from Earth and asks what it is.
Eir says that they don't know and Jane won't survive the amount of energy surging in her.
Thor looked crestfallen. He hoped Jane did not die, but if Asgard's healers could not get the Aether out of her, than what could? What would happen to her?
Thor asks if the thing is a quantum field generator.
The Asgardians looked confused, that was a soul forge.
Eir says that its a soul forge.
Jane asks if a Soul Forge transfers molecular energy from one place to another.
Eri says it does.
Jane looks at Thor and says that its a quantum field generator. Thor smiles.
"Hashtag proud boyfriend moment." Shuri said.
Odin enters the room.
"Uh-oh. Dad found out." Tony said.
Odin asks if his words are only noises to thor that he ignores them.
Thor says that Jane's ill.
Odin says that she is mortal and 'ill' is their defining trait.
The humans all looked offended. "He really doesn't like us, does he?" Steve asked.
"He does not." Thor answered.
Thor says that he brought her there because they can help her.
Odin says that Jane doesn't belong in Asgard any more than a goat belongs on a banquet table.
"That's rude." Natasha said.
Jane asks Odin who he thinks he is.
"That's... not a good idea." Valkyrie said.
Odin says that he's the king of Asgard and he's the protector of the nine realms.
Jane tries to introduce herself.
Odin says that she knows who she is.
Jane asks Thor is he told his dad about her.
"Of course I did." Thor said, despite knowing that Jane wasn't there and couldn't hear him.
Thor tells Odin that something is wrong with her and he hasn't seen anything like it before.
Odin says that Jane's world has healers called doctors and to let them deal with it.
"With all due respect, I don't think Earth surgeons could fix her." Coulson said.
Odin tells the guards to take Jane back to Midgard. Two guards go to pick her up.
"I wouldn't do that of I were you." Wanda said.
Thor tries to warn them. The force of the Aether throws them all back. Thor asks Jane if she's alright.
Odin and Eir walk back over to her. Odin says that its impossible.
Eir says that the infection is defending Jane.
Thor says that the infection is defending itself.
Loki hummed. "You're not as dull as I thought." He said.
Odin tells them to come with him. He says that there are relics that predate the universe itself. Thor, Jane and Odin start walking.
"How is that possible?" Tony asked.
"Magic." Both Strange and Loki answered.
Odin says that what lies within Jane is one of the relics. He says that the nine realms aren't eternal and they had a dawn and will have a dusk. He opens a book and says that before the dawn the Dark Elves reigned absolute and unchallenged.
"But before that dawn the dark forces, the Dark Elves, reigned absolute and unchallenged."
"And now they're mad that they can't, is that it?" Tony asked.
"To put it in so many words, yes." Thor answered.
Thor reads the book and says 'Born of eternal night, the Dark Elves come to steal away your light.' He says that he knows the stories and that Frigga used to read them to him and Loki when they were children.
"You two must have had some weird ass bedtime stories, first being told of the Frost Giants and now the Dark Elves." Clint said.
Odin says that Malekith made a weapon out of darkness and it was called the Aether. He says that the other relics appeared as stones, the Aether is fluid and always changing.
"I would expect as much from something also called the reality stone." Steve said.
Odin says that it changes into dark matter and seeks out host bodies and draws strength from their life force.
"Sounds pleasant." Tony said.
Odin says that Malekith wanted to use the Aether to turn the universe into one of darkness. He says that after eternities of bloodshed King Bor triumphed, ushering in peace that lasted for thousands of years.
"By slaughtering them." Gamora said.
Jane asks what happened.
"Oh, so young, so naive." Loki said.
Odin says that King Bor killed them all.
"Not all of them apparently." Thor said.
Thor asks if he's sure. He says that the Aether was said to have been destroyed but it isn't.
"Logic."
Odin says that the Dark Elves are dead.
"Except they're not." Nebula said.
Jane asks if his book mentions how to get the Aether out of her.
Odin says that it doesn't.
"Well that's just great." Fury said.
Malekith is inside of his ship, studying the convergence. Algrim, in Shiväisith, says that the realms will be aligned soon.
Everyone watched, filled with apprehension.
Malekith takes a knife and turns to Algrim. He tells Algrim, in Shiväisith, that he will be the last of the Kursed.
Algrim, in Shiväisith, says to let his life be sacrificed. He says that it is no less than their people or Malekith has done. Malekith stabs him in the stomach.
A few people winced.
Malekith, in Shiväisith, says that he will become darkness and he'll be doomed to this existence until it consumes him.
"That's terrible." Steve said.
One of the elves passes a glowing orange rock to Malekith. Malekith, in Shiväisith, says until then no power their enemies possess will stop him.
"I beg to differ." Loki said.
Algrim, in Shiväisith, says that he will tear down their defences and ensure Malekith's return to a world reborn. A Dark Elf walks forward with a metal helmet. 6 smaller ships fly away from the mother-ship.
"They're going to attack Asgard, looking for the Aether... for Jane." Thor realized in a panic.
Fandral, Volstagg and some guards enter the observatory through the bifrost with prisoners. Algrim among them.
"On, no."Bruce said, seeing Algrim.
Volstagg says that acting as caretakers to the prisoners is beneath them.
Fandral says that if they were actually beneath Volstagg they'd all be dead.
Everyone laughed.
They walk down to the dungeons. Loki watches and makes a comment about how thoughtful it is that Odin is bringing him new friends.
Frigga asks if the books she sent didn't interest him.
"I thought father said she couldn't visit." Thor said, as if realizing his mistake his hand quickly flew to his mouth. He looked to Loki, much to his relief his brother did not look angry, but resigned, which worried him.
"She wasn't actually there, it was just an illusion." Loki's voice sounded far away to his own ears.
Loki turns around and asks if he's supposed to while away eternity by reading.
Frigga says that she's done everything in her power to make him more comfortable.
Loki smiled softly and sadly, he wished he could tell her how much he appreciated it, appreciated her not giving up on him when everyone else did.
He asks if Odin shares her concern.
"Why are you still seeking his attention?" Nebula asked, not to be mean, she was just curious.
"Honestly? I don't actually know." Loki responded.
He asks if Thor does.
Thor looked at his brother sadly, knowing that his future self didn't share that same concern.
He sarcastically says that it must be inconvenient them asking after him day and night.
Nebula, Gamora, and Wanda all frowned.
Frigga tells him that it was his own actions that brought him here.
"Except now we know that's not entirely true." Thor said.
Loki says that he was only giving truth to the lie he's been fed his entire life that he was born to be a king.
Thor wanted to argue that it wasn't a lie, but knew better than to do so.
Frigga says that a true king admits his faults then asks about the lives he took on Earth.
Loki says that they were only a handful compared to the lives that Odin himself has taken.
"This isn't going to end well, is it?" Natasha asked. Loki shook his head silently.
Frigga tries to defend Odin and calls him Loki's father.
Loki says that Odin is not his father.
"Loki." Thor said. Loki held up his hand as a sign for him to stop talking.
Frigga asks if she's not Loki's mother.
Loki hesitates before saying that she isn't.
Loki had tears in his eyes. He wished that he could take it back but he can't and now he can't even apologize for it. If he had been able to let go of his damn pride for just a minute then... his thoughts were cut short by Thor talking.
"Loki, I know you don't mean that." Thor said.
"I-I didn't, I swear I didn't." Loki said.
Frigga smiles and says that he's always so perceptive about everyone but himself. Loki shakes his head and walks toward her, he goes to grab her hands but they fall through and she fades away, tears in her eyes. Loki looks down, tears in his eyes as well
Loki blinked and let his tears fall, silently. Valkyrie patted his shoulder awkwardly, she was bad at comforting people.
Thor and Jane are walking outside, Jane is now in Asgardian clothes. She says that when Thor came for her he knew she was in trouble.
"If Heimdall cannot see someone, it means that they usually are in trouble. *He glances at Loki* Or hiding." Thor explained.
Thor says that Heimdall had lost sight of her and says that she was no longer on Earth.
A few people looked confused, if she wasn't of Earth, where did she go? "Where do you think she went?" Bruce asked.
"Well, the convergence is approaching. I believe that she may have been between the worlds." Thor said.
Jane asks how that's possible.
Thor says that he believes She was and wasn't on Earth.
"That makes no sense." Scott said.
He says that the nine realms travel witching Yggdrasil orbiting Midgard like Earth orbits the sun. He says that every 5,000 years the worlds allign perfectly and it's called the convergence.
"In a straight line?" Tony asked. Thor nodded. "Kind of like how people explain string theory, then" Tony said.
Thor takes her hands and says that during the convergence the boarders between the worlds become blurred. He says that it's possible she found one of those points and they're lucky it remained open. He says that when the worlds pass out of alignment the connection is lost.
"So you're saying she found a part of Earth that was connected with another realm and passed through it? Then contracted the Aether and woke up back on Earth." Bruce asked. Thor nodded again.
They kiss. Jane says that she likes how he explains things and then asks what's going to happen to her.
Thor says that he'll find a way to save her.
Jane starts talking about what Odin said.
Thor says that Odin doesn't know everything.
"You shouldn't let him hear you say that." Loki said.
Frigga interrupts them and says not to let Odin hear him says that.
Thor introduces Jane to Frigga.
Jane awkwardly greets her.
"She's so awkward I relate." Peter said.
Loki is lying in his cell, tossing a metal canister in his hand.
"You look so bored." Tony commented.
Algrim takes out the glowing rock, only now it's covered in blood. He crushes it in his hands.
"No!" Thor yelled. That monster cannot get out of the prisons, who knows the damage it will cause.
He starts to glow. The prisoners in the cell with him start panicking and banging on the barrier.
"He's gonna get out." Clint said, worried.
"Malekith said that there would be no match for him once he's been Kursed." Thor said, voice light.
Loki is still tossing the object. He hears the commotion and stops. The lights flicker. He stands up. Black smoke erupts in Algrim's cell and his cellmates are dead. The guards rush to the cell. Algrim shoves a cellmate into the barrier, then punches through it.
"Oh no."
Loki and Thor were both silently panicking, for vastly different reasons.
Algrim walks out and chokes the two guards.
"An entire hall of dungeons only has 2 guards?" Strange asked, skeptically.
"The prisoners tend not to...escape, mainly because they can't. I guess we never thought someone could." Thor said.
He walks through the hall and starts freeing prisoners, and stops when he sees Loki. They size each other up, Algrim leaves.
"Why didn't he let you out?" Gamora asked.
"Look at his cell, Algrim can probably tell he's Asgardian and if he's planning to attack Asgard, Loki is probably not the best choice for an ally." Nebula said.
Loki tells him that he might want to take the stairs to the left.
Loki flinched, hearing himself say that. "I shouldn't have said that, I should not have said that."
"Why did you, you know where those stairs lead." Thor said.
"I was angry and I hoped he would attack father." Loki answered.
Frigga hears the alarm and realizes that it's the prisons.
Thor thinks that it was Loki.
Loki raised his eyebrows. "Of course you thought it was me." He said bitterly.
Frigga tells him to go and says that she'll look after Jane.
