Kraglin, Yondu, Rocket and Groot continue going through jump points. They pass over some watchers. One of them(Stan Lee) continues telling his story about when he was a federal express man.
"The one who called you 'Tony Stank'." Rhodey laughed.
Kraglin, Yondu, Rocket and Groot arrive at Ego. Yondu and Rocket fall over, Groot throws up. Yondu asks Rocket what the hell he was doing.
Rocket says he could tell Ego was bad news based on how Yondu talked about him.
"A little more than 'bad news'." Mantis said.
Rocket says they're there to save Quill.
"And me, Drax, Nebula and Mantis." Gamora said.
Yondu asks if he's saving him for honor or love.
Rocket says he doesn't care about those things and he wants to save Quill to prove that he's better than him.
"Course you do." Quill said.
Rocket says he can lord this over Quill forever.
"Sure." Quill said, unconvinced.
Yondu laughs. Rocket asks why he's laughing.
Yondu says Rocket can fool himself and everyone else but not him. He says he knows who Rocket is.
Rocket says Yondu doesn't know anything about him.
Yondu says he knows everything about him.
"Huh?"
Yondu says Rocket plays like he's the meanest and the hardest but he's actually the most scared and he knows Rocket steals batteries he doesn't need.
"What do the batteries have to do with anything, now?" Rhodey asked.
Yondu says Rocket pushes anyone who's willing to put up with him away because just a little bit of love reminds him of how big and empty the hole inside him is
"Talk about tough love." Natasha said.
Yondu says he knows the scientists that made Rocket didn't give a rats ass about him just like his own parents who sold him into slavery.
"His own parents sold him? That's awful." Valkyrie said.
Yondu says he knows who Rocket is because Rocket is him.
Rocket asks what kind of pair they are.
Yondu says they're the kind that's about to go fight a planet.
"A planet?" Steve said.
"Well yeah, Ego made the planet and the planet is him." Gamora said.
Rocket says alright before backtracking and asks what they're fighting.
"Yeah, sounds crazy." Quill said.
Gamora and Nebula find Mantis and Drax. Gamora shoves Mantis against the wall and asks who she is and what the planet is.
Drax tells Gamora to let Mantis go.
"Please do."
Gamora asks about the bodies in the caverns.
Mantis says Gamora is scared. Gamora lets Mantis go and backs away.
"That didn't answer the question." Natasha said.
Ego is with Quill, he shows him projects of planets with glowing blue dots on them and says he calls it the expansion and says it's his purpose and now it's Quill's too.
"I think tf not you trick ass bitch." Peter said.
Quill says it's beautiful.
"No."
Ego says for thousands of years he planted extensions of himself on thousands of worlds and he needs to fulfil life's one true purpose which is to grow and spread and cover all that exists until everything is him. The planet projections turn blue.
"Like an infection... or a parasite." Peggy said.
Back in Drax's room. Gamora asks what Mantis did to her.
Drax says Mantis told him everything.
"Good."
Back with Ego and Quill. Ego says he only had one problem and it was that a single Celestial doesn't have enough power for such an enterprise but 2 Celestials could do it.
"So, he's using you. Convincing you of your purpose only so you would help him fill his." Natasha said to Quill.
In Drax's room, Mantis tells them that the bodies are Ego's children.
"What!?" Everyone yelled.
"He... he killed his own kids." May said, horrified.
"There were so many of them." Wanda said, equally as horrified.
"Who would do such a thing?" Steve asked.
Back with Ego and Quill. Ego says out of all his labors the most beguiling was attempting to graft his DNA with other species'. He says he hoped the result of such a coupling would be enough to power the expansion.
"He was only looking for a species that could carry on his power." Hope said.
Ego says he had Yondu deliver some to him. He says it broke the Ravager code but he compensated him generously.
"And in turn it got him exiled." Quill said, angrily.
Ego says he told Yondu he wouldn't hurt the kids so it would ease his conscience. He says it was true and the kids never felt a thing.
"He feels no remorse." Mantis said.
Ego says one after another they failed him because none of them carried the Celestial gene.
"You killed thousands of innocent children all because they didn't carry your genes?" Strange asked. "That is sick."
Ego says that out of all his spawn only Quill carried the connection to the light.
Back in Drax's room. Gamora says they need to find Quill and get off the planet.
Mantis says Ego would have won Quill to his side by now.
"Not for long." Quill said.
Nebula says they can just leave.
Gamora tells her no and says Quill is their friend.
Nebula says that all they do is yell at each other and they aren't friends.
"True."
Drax says Nebula is right and says they're family and they leave no one behind except maybe Nebula.
"We're not leaving her behind no matter how much we may not like her." Quill said.
Back with Ego and Quill. Ego says that for the first time in his existence he isn't alone.
Quill looks dejected. Ego asks him what's wrong.
Quill says it's his friends.
Ego says that's the mortal in him and they're beyond such things.
"Well, I'd rather be mortal with my friends than be immortal and alone with you." Quill said.
Quill reminds Ego that he said he loved Meredith.
"Probably a lie." Natasha said.
Ego says he did and says she was his River Lily who knew all the words to every song on the radio. He says he returned to Earth to see her 3 times and he knew he'd never leave if he returned a 4th. He says the reason for his existence would be over.
"So, his made up 'purpose' was more important than loving someone?" Scott asked.
He says he did what he had to do and it broke his heart to put the tumor in her brain.
"He did what?" Bruce asked, darkly.
"He gave Meredith brain cancer?" Steve asked.
"What kind of sick person does that?" Hope asked.
Quill's eyes clear. Ego says he knows that sounds bad.
"It is bad." Everyone yelled.
Quill continuously shoots Ego with his blasters.
Everyone cheered, knowing that whatever hold Ego had on Quill was gone.
Ego's body looks like glowing veins. Ego asks Quill who the hell he thinks he is.
Quill says Ego killed his mother.
Ego says he tried so hard to find the form that best suited him and this is the thanks he gets. He turns into David Hasselhoff.
"Did he seriously just do that?" Sam asked.
Ego turns back into himself and says Quill needs to grow up. Ego uses his powers to make a stream of light go through Quills' chest.
"No!" Everyone yelled.
Ego says he wanted to do this together but he supposes Quill will have to learn by spending the next 1000 years as a battery.
"You son of a bitch." Scott said.
"What an asshole." Pepper said.
Gamora's transmitter beeps. She answers it and calls for Rocket.
Rocket tells her to keep the transmitter nearby so he can find her. He says they're in an old piece of construction equipment Yondu once used to slice open the bank of A'askavaria.
"I remember that." Quill said, almost fondly.
Gamora says Ego's unhinged.
Rocket says he knows and tells her to get ready.
On the ship, Yondu tells Kraglin to drop the pod. Kraglin pulls a lever and a pod emerges and flies toward Ego.
"The planet has a face." Tony said.
"That's... unsettling." Happy said.
Ego takes Quill's walkman and it starts playing 'Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) by Looking Glass. Ego quotes lyrics. 'My life, my love, my lady is the sea' He tells Quill that this is the sea. He crushes the walkman.
"That was a big mistake." Rocket said.
Energy surrounds Ego and runs through cracks in the planet. The core illuminates.
"Dammit."
The plant Ego placed on Earth, grows and a blue substance crushes the Dairy Queen.
"It's starting." May whispered.
Yondu crashes his ship into Ego and greets him by calling him a jackass. The energy rope in Quill retracts and Quill drops to the floor.
Everyone sighed in relief that Quill was free.
The blue substance suddenly stops. A man asks what it is.
"Something you should stay away from, so I advise that you keep running." Coulson said.
The others run into the building. Groot opens the ship doors and waves.
Everyone waved back.
Drax tells Groot to get out of the way and calls him 'Dumber, smaller Groot.'
"No need to be rude about it." Clint said.
Drax, Mantis and Nebula get onto the ship. Gamora helps Quill up and says she told him something didn't feel right.
Quill say 'I told you do' is not what he needs to hear right now.
"I agree, that can always be saved for when you're not about to die." Bucky said.
Gamora says she came back.
Quill says it's because there's an unspoken thing.
Gamora says there isn't an unspoken thing.
"Discuss it later." Pepper said.
Drax asks Rocket what he was doing and says he could've killed them all.
Rocket says a 'thank you' would be nice.
Drax says they had it under control.
"No you didn't." Nebula said.
Mantis says they didn't and that was only an extension of Ego's true self and he'll be back soon.
"Shit."
Quill and Gamora get to the ship. Quill asks why Nebula is there and calls her Smurfette. Nebula says she's doing whatever she needs to to get a damn ride home.
"Might as well kick some planet ass while you're at it, right?" Rocket asked.
Rocket says Nebula tried to murder him.
Nebula says she saved him and calls him a stupid fox.
Gamora says Rocket isn't a fox.
"I am Groot." Rocket says he isn't a raboon either. "I am Groot." Rocket corrects himself and says raccoon.
"Yes, you are a racoon, technically." Peter said.
Ropes of energy come through the floor and surround the ship. Drax asks how to kill a Celestial.
Quill says Ego has a center and it's either his brain or soul and whatever it is it's a protective shell.
Mantis says it's in the caverns below the surface.
"What are you gonna do to it?" Hank asked.
"Blow it up." Rocket said, simply.
The ropes wrap round the ship. Quill gets to the helm and sees Yondu. Yondu tries to fly up but the ropes stop him and pulls them down. Yondu says the thrusters are out.
Quill starts fixing the thrusters and says he guesses he should be glad he was a skinny kid because otherwise Yondu would've delivered him to Ego.
"You honestly still believe Yondu only kept you because you were a skinny child?" Natasha asked. "You really are dense."
Yondu asks if Quill still thinks that's why he kept him.
Quill says that's what Yondu told him.
Yondu says he wasn't going to hand Quill over after he found out what happened to the other kids.
Quill says Yondu said he was gonna eat him.
"He did say that." Steve remembered. "Quite a few times."
Yondu says he was being funny.
"How is that 'being funny'!?" Bruce asked.
Quill says it wasn't funny to him.
"I don't see why it would be." Scott said.
Rocket tells them that they have issues.
"We all do." Quill sighed.
Ego is growing his human form back. Quill says of course he has issues and says Ego's his father.
"And I thought my father was bad." Tony muttered. Howard had nothing on Ego.
Quill finishes with the thrusters. Yondu flies the ship through Ego and out the window. The ships flies straight down. Yondu says they should be going up.
Quill says they can't and says Ego wants to eradicate the universe as they know it and they have to kill him.
"Damn right you do." Fury said.
Rocket maneuvers the laser balls on the outside of the ship to cut through the surface of the planet. Rocket asks if they're saving the galaxy again.
Quill says they are.
Rocket says that's awesome.
"It is pretty awesome." Ned agreed.
Rocket says they're really going to be able to jack up their prices if they're 2-time galaxy savers.
"Of course that's the first place your mind goes." Gamora sighed.
Quill says he can't believe that's where Rocket's mind went.
Rocket says it's just a random thought and says he thought they were friends. He says of course he cares about the planets and the buildings and all the animals on the planets.
"And the people I hope." Thor said.
Quill adds people to his list.
Rocket says 'meh.'
"Honestly, I'm not even surprised." Clint said.
Mantis says Rocket is so cute he makes her want to die and calls him a crabby puppy.
"He's so fluffy, I'm gonna die." Peter quoted.
'Wham-bam Shang-A-Lang' by Silver is playing. Kraglin is in his ship eating. He notices ships coming through a jump point by Ego. The ships are Sovereign ships.
"Oh come on!" Everyone yelled.
Ayesha tells the pilots to release the envoy units. She says their sensors detect the batteries are below the surface of the planet. The sovereign ships enter the atmosphere of the planet.
"And now there's those guys." Sam sighed.
Kraglin tries to contact Yondu, but the transmission breaks up.
"Oh no."
Yondu asks Quill why Ego wants him.
Quill says Ego needs his connection to the light to help destroy the universe
"Pretty much."
Quill says Ego tried to teach him how to control the power.
Yondu asks if he can.
Quill says he could a little and he made a ball.
Yondu questions him. Quill says he thought as hard as he could and that was the best he could come up with.
"Of all the things you could have made, a ball was the best you could come up with?" MJ asked.
Yondu asks if Quill thinks he uses his head to make his arrow fly.
They crash into the center of the planet. Mantis sees a spherical shape and says that Ego's core is there.
Rocket says he has it covered and uses his lasers to try and drill a hole in the core.
"I hope this works." Steve said.
Quill says they'll kill Ego if they drill into the center. Kraglin's transmission comes through and he asks if Yondu remembers Ayesha. Yondu looks out and sees the Sovereign fleet.
"Son of a bitch." Fury said.
'Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang' by Silver starts playing. The Sovereign ships start shooting and Yondu steers their ship away. Gamora, Drax and Mantis fall out.
"Oh no."
Quill asks Rocket why he isn't firing the lasers.
Rocket says they blew the generator out he says he thinks he packed a small detonator.
Nebula says a detonator is worthless without explosives.
Rocket says they have the batteries.
Quill asks if it's strong enough to kill Ego.
"I hope so." Carol said.
Rocket says it will cause a chain reaction throughout his entire nervous system if it is.
"And that will kill him?" Scott asked.
Quill asks what that means.
Rocket says the entire planet will explode and they'll have to get out of their fast and he rigged a timer.
Quill puts on his mask and an aero-rig. He and Rocket jump out of the ship and fly to where Ego's core is.
The planet shakes and Mantis says Ego's coming.
Everyone tensed.
Drax remembers Mantis said she could make Ego sleep.
Mantis says she can only do it when he wants because he's too powerful.
Drax says she doesn't have to believe in herself because he believes in her.
"So you are capable of being nice." Valkyrie said.
Mantis bends down and touches one of Ego's glowing veins. "Sleep!" she says. Ego sleeps.
Everyone clapped, impressed with Mantis' power.
Drax says he never thought Mantis would be able to do it with as weak and skinny she appears to be.
"I take back what I said." Valkyrie said.
Mantis says she doesn't know how long she can hold him.
Rocket says the metal is too thick and for the bomb to work they'd need to place it on Ego's core. He says their fat butts aren't going to fit through the tiny holes. Quill looks at Groot.
"There really isn't another way?" Maria asked.
Rocket says that's a terrible idea.
"Seconded." Everyone said.
Quill says it's the only idea they have left.
"Last resort."
Rocket picks up Groot and starts complaining about having to do everything. Quill jumps down and starts shooting at Sovereign ships.
"Here we go."
Rocket shows Groot the detonator and says that first Groot will flip one switch then the other switch and that activates it. He tells him to push the button next to the switches and it'll give him 5 minutes to get out. He tells him not to press the other button because it'll set off the bomb immediately and kill everyone.
"Groot has no idea what's going on. Just look at him, not a single thought behind those eyes." Ned said.
Rocket tells Groot to repeat what he said.
"I am groot, I am Groot, I am Groot." He points to the button Rocket told him not to push.
"Oh no."
Rocket says that's the button that will kill everyone and tells groot to try again.
"I am groot, I am Groot, I am Groot." He points to the button Rocket told him not to push.
Rocket tells him that that's exactly what he just said and asks how that's possible.
"No thoughts, head empty." Shuri said.
Rocket asks Groot which button he's supposed to push and tells him to point to it. Groot points to the button Rocket told him not to push.
Everyone sighed, exasperated.
Quill tells Rocket that he's making Groot nervous. Rocket tells him to get him some tape and asks if anyone out there has tape because he wants to put tape over the death button.
"Good idea." Tony said.
Quill says he doesn't then tells Rocket that he'll check. Quill asks Yondu, Gamora and Drax if they have tape. He tells Drax that scotch tape will work then asks Drax why he would ask if he didn't have any.
"Oh my god." Nebula said, irritated.
Quill tells Roket that nobody has tape.
Rocket asks if not a single person has tape.
Quill says no.
Rocket asks if he asked Nebula.
Quill says he asked Yondu and she was standing next to him.
"So you didn't ask her." May said.
Rocket says he knew Quill was lying.
Quill says Rocket has priceless batteries and an atomic bomb in his bag so if anyone were to have tape, it'd be him.
"True."
Groot takes the detonator and runs off with it.
"Oh no."
Rocket says that's his point and says he has to do everything.
Quill tells him that he's wasting a lot of time.
"You both are." Howard said.
Rocket notices Groot has taken off with the detonator and says they're all gonna die.
"I hope Groot pressed the right button." Steve said.
Yondu is still in the ship, he says the rear thrusters are out again and they're done for without the generator. Quill flies into the ship. Nebula hooks her arm up to the ship.
One of the Sovereign tells the guardians that it will provide solace to know that their deaths aren't without purpose.
"Comforting." Quill said, sarcastically.
The Sovereign pilot says this will be a warning to all who are tempted to betray the Sovereign. Yondu reconfigures the lasers. The Sovereign woman says not to screw with the Sovereign.
"Unless you can get away with it." Rocket said.
The Sovereign ships all start firing. Nebula plugs something into her arm. Yondu says it'll hurt.
Nebula says 'promises, promises.' Yondu hits the button, electricity surrounds Nebula as she screams. The lasers destroy all the Sovereign ships.
Everyone laughed and cheered.
"Well, there's one less thing you have to worry about." Coulson said.
Part of a Sovereign ship lands in the ship. Quill says the ship is going to blow. The ship explodes. Nebula drops out of the ship. Her and Gamora look up and see Quill and Yondu, floating down using Yondu's arrow.
Everyone smiled, thankful that they 3 of them made it.
Quill looks at Yondu and giggles before saying he looks like May Poppins.
"He kind of does." Tony said.
Yondu asks if Mary Poppins is cool and mistakes her for a man.
Quill says Mary Poppins is cool, not correcting Yondu's miatake.
Yondu proclaims that he's Mary Poppins.
Everyone laughed.
"Not the Mary Poppins we had, but the Mary Poppins we deserved." Peter joked.
