The Guardians circle up and Rocket lands next to them. A piece of wreckage hits Mantis in the face. After she falls, Drax tells her to look out.
"That would have been useful advice about 3 seconds ago." Happy said.
Ego wakes up and his veins glow. Drax picks Mantis up and says she's unconscious.
Groot continues running toward Ego's core.
"Come on Groot."
Quill asks Rocket how long it is until the bomb goes off. Rocket says it'll go off in about 6 minutes in the unlikely event that Groot doesn't kill them all.
"Well, judging by the fact that you're all alive, I'd say Groot didn't kill you all." Tony said.
Pieces of rock start falling. Yondu calls for Kraglin and tells him that they need the quadrant for extraction in 5 minutes. Kraglin flies the quadrant into Ego's atmosphere.
"This is getting intense." Peter said.
Quill says someone needs to be up top when Kraglin arrives then tells Drax to take Mantis, then puts an aero-rig on him. Drax flies up and complains about his nipples.
Everyone laughed. "Poor Drax." Gamora said.
The rock under the Guardians starts breaking away and Gamora and Nebula fall. Nebula latches onto a rock and grabs Gamora's hand and throws her up then jumps up after her and tells her to get over it.
Everyone giggled. "Yeah yeah, you saved my life. We're even now." Gamora said.
Ego attacks Quill with tentacles of energy. Ego tells him that this isn't what Quill wants.
"I'll decide that for myself." Quill said.
Yondu attacks Ego with his arrow. Ego asks what kind of father he would be if he let Quill make the choice he is.
"I'd say you're a shit father either way so..." Quill said.
Yondu uses his arrow to destroy one of Ego's energy tentacles. Rocket throws red beads on some tentacles and when they attack him, he makes a barrier. Rocket detonates the bombs and falls to the ground.
"Nice."
Ego tells Quill that soon, they will be all there is. He tells Quill to stop pissing him off. A tentacle hits Quill away and his mask falls off.
"No, I think I'll keep pissing you off." Quill said.
The quadrant lands on the surface.
Gamora tells Gamora that they need to get to the extraction point. Pillars of rock around them start rising. Nebula and Gamora jump to one.
Drax lands on the surface with Mantis. Tentacles rise up and grab the quadrant.
"Dammit!" Everyone yelled.
The quadrant starts falling. Drax runs away. Kraglin starts falling. Drax bends down as a dust cloud covers him and Mantis. Kraglin pulls a lever and the ship flies up. Drax stands up and continues running.
"Phew!"
The pillar Gamora and Nebula are on hits a wall.
Everyone winced.
Ego grows his human body back.
"That looks... creepy." Rhodey said.
Yondu gets hit by a tentacle and his arrow breaks. Yondu gets buried with rocks.
"No!" Everyone yelled.
Drax gets sucked into the ground, he raises Mantis above his head.
Gamora and Nebula try to crawl up the wall but their hands gets trapped.
The walls start closing in on Groot and he starts crying.
"Not Groot." Shuri said, sadly.
"Ego is such a vile creature." Gamora said.
Ego tells Quill that he told him he doesn't want to do this alone.
"Correction, you said you can't do it alone." Quill said.
A tentacle goes through Quill's chest. Ego tells him that he can't deny the purpose the universe bestowed upon him. More tentacles go through Quill and the energy from him powers the core.
"Shit."
On Earth, people are taking pictures of Ego's energy blob.
"Are they seriously standing around taking pictures?" Fury asked.
The blob unfreezes and expands again.
On various other planets the same thing happens.
"He's winning." Steve said, sadly.
"Not for long." Rocket said.
Ego tells Quill that it doesn't need to be like this and asks why he's destroying their chance. He tells Quill to stop pretending that he isn't what he is. He asks Quill what greater meaning life can offer.
"My meaning is not to destroy everything and everyone." Quill said.
Yondu tells Quill that he doesn't use his head to fly the arrow, he uses his heart. Yondu gets submerged with rock.
"You're about to do something amazing aren't you?" Scott asked Quill.
Quill has flashbacks of him with a girl, Drax, Rocket, Gamora and Yondu. 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac starts playing.
"A very fitting song for this moment." Tony said.
Small pieces of rock surround Quill. He tells Ego that he shouldn't have killed his mom and squished his walkman. He leaps toward Ego and chokes him.
Everyone cheered.
"I don't think he ever expected me to use my power against him." Quill said.
Quill forms a boulder around his hand and punched Ego with it.
"Ego deserves everything he has coming to him." Hope said.
The rock around Drax, Nebula, Gamora, Rocket and Yondu breaks away. Ego's blue energy on the other planets stops.
"Yes!"
The walls around Groot retract and he sees Ego's brain.
"Finally." Everyone sighed.
Rocket flies to the opening and says if Groot can hear him he needs to hurry up because he isn't sure how long Quill can keep Ego distracted.
Groot places the detonator on the brain and flips the switches. His finger hovers over the button Rocket told him not to push.
"No!" Everyone yelled.
Groot presses the correct button and the countdown starts. Groot starts running.
Everyone sighed in relief.
Drax throws Mantis onto the ship and gets on with her. Gamora and Nebula reach the continues fighting Ego. Quill throws Ego off of him.
"Get him."
Rocket and Groot find Yondu and tells him the planet will blow.
Yondu tells him to get to the ship.
Rocket says he won't go without Quill.
"Aw, you do care." Quill said.
Yondu tells Rocket to take care of Groot and calls him 'twig' again.
Rocket says he won't go without Yondu.
Yondu says he hasn't done anything right his whole life.
"That's not true." Quill said, tears in his eyes.
Yondu tells Rocket to give him this.
Rocket hands Yondu a space suit and an aero-rig and says he only has one of each.
"I am Groot." Yondu asks what he said.
Rocket says Groot says welcome to the fricken' Guardians of the Galaxy only Groot didn't use fricken'.
Everyone smiled with tears in their eyes.
"Language." Steve reprimanded Groot, thought it sounded like more of a question.
As they fly off Rocket tells Groot that they're going to have to have a discussion about his language.
Everyone laughed.
"I am Groot." Groot said. (What language?)
Quill and Ego are still fighting. Ego slams Quill into a wall then throws him to the ground. Quill stands up and they leap toward each other. Quill uses his powers to form Pac-Man around himself.
"You finally got to make Pac-Man." Tony said, laughing a little.
Ego uses his power to make a rock version of himself. Pac-Man bites rock Ego and both are destroyed. Ego and Quill fall to the ground. The detonator is dorn to '1:10'
"You better get out of there." Sam said.
Rocket and Groot make it to the quadrant. Gamora asks where Quill is. Rocket only shakes his head. Groot points to the center of the planet.
Gamora says she isn't leaving without him and grabs a gun.
Rocket electrocutes her and says he can only afford to lose one friend today.
"Well, you didn't lose either of us." Quill said.
"I'm glad for that." Rocket said.
Rocket tells Kraglin to go.
Drax tells Kraglin to wait and asks if Quill is back then asks Rocket where Quill is. The ship doors close and the quadrant starts flying up.
Despite the fact that they knew Quill lived, everyone couldn't help the tears that sprang to their eyes when the Guardians thought they would need to leave without Quill.
Quill hits Ego over the head. The detonator is down to '00:25' Ego says they need to stop it.
"No, we don't." Quill said, angrily.
Quill continues hitting Ego. Ego tells Quill to listen to him and says that Quill is a god and if he kills him then he'll be just like everyone else.
"Last ditch effort to win you over." Natasha said.
Quill asks what's so wrong with that.
"Absolutely nothing." Gamora said.
The bomb detonates and the core blows up.
"Finally!" Everyone cheered.
Ego's human form disintegrated and the light fades from Quill's hands.
"Just like everyone else now." Pepper said.
The planet starts blowing up. Yondu swoops down and grabs Quill.
Everyone cheered. "Yondu to the rescue." Peter said.
Yondu flies them to the surface of the planet and says Ego may have been Quill's father but he wasn't his daddy.
"No, you were." Quill said. "In everything but blood."
Yondu continues flying up. He says he's sorry he didn't do any of it right but he's lucky Quill's his boy.
"That's really sweet." Hope said, voice cracking.
Yondu puts the space suit on Quill and they fly out of the planet's atmosphere.
"Wait, what's he doing?" Ned asked.
Quill asks Yondu what he's doing. Yondu's aero-rig goes out and Quill tries to take his space suit off. Yondu starts to freeze.
"No." Everyone whispered, not trusting their voices.
Yondu touches the sides of Quill's face before he freezes to death.
Quill started silently crying, remembering the loss of Yondu. Gamora wrapped her arms around his shoulders to comfort him.
On the ship, Rocket lights a candle next to Yondu's body. Quill places some flowers. Gamora places a green animal toy near the blue frog toy.
Everyone smiled at that, remembering when Yondu says he likes to put things like that on his center console of his ship.
Quill places the troll doll.
Everyone giggled, remembering when Quill replaced the Power Stone with that troll doll.
Quill says he told Gamora how when he was a kid he used to pretend David Hasselhoff was his dad. Rocket and Groot look at each other, confused. Quill explains Hasselhoff is a singer and actor from Earth and he's famous.
Gamora smiled a little, she liked Quill's story. And the fact that he connected it to Yondu made it even better.
He says Yondu didn't have a talking car but he did have a flying arrow. He says Yondu didn;t have the voice of an angel but he had the whistle of one. He says Yondu and Hasselhoff went on kick-ass adventures and hooked up with hot women and fought robots.
Everyone giggled when Quill said they both hooked up with hot women.
Quill says he guesses David Hasselhoff was his dad after all only it was Yondu. He says he had a pretty cool dad. He says what he's trying to say is sometimes the thing you're searching for your whole life is right by you side the whole time and you don't even know it.
"That was a beautiful speech." Hope said.
"Very emotional." Scott agreed, wiping his tears away.
Nebula walks off, Gamora follows.
"I am Groot." Rocket says Yondu did call him twig.
Everyone smiled.
Gamora finds Nebula. She says she was a child like her and she was concerned with staying alive until the next day every day and she never considered what Thanos was doing to her.
"It's okay. Like you said, you were trying to stay alive, just like I was. It's really Thanos that I should take my revenge on." Nebula said.
Gamora says she's trying to make it right. She says there's girls like Nebula across the universe who are in danger and she can stay with them and help.
Nebula says she'll help them by killing Thanos.
Gamora says she doesn't know if that's possible.
"You don't have to do it alone, Nebula." Gamora said.
Nebula turns to leave. Gamora grabs her arm and hugs her and says Nebula will always be her sister.
All of the siblings in the room smiled at the sweet moment between the two sisters.
The guardians release Yondu's body into space through colorful flames.
"The funeral he deserved." Wanda said.
Kraglin hands Quill something and says Yondu found it in a junker shop and says Yondu said he'd come back someday.
Quill asks what it is.
Kraglin says it's a zune and its what everyone is listening to on Earth now and it has 300 songs on it.
"A zune? I never thought I'd see one of those again." Coulson said, remembering when they stopped making them 2 years ago.
Kraglin goes to leave, Quill stops him and takes out Yondu's arrow. He says Rocket grabbed the pieces and reassembled them and he thinks Yondu would want him to have it.
Kraglin thanks Quill and calls him captain.
"Good for Kraglin." Natasha said. "He deserves it."
Yondu's body dissipates in colorful lights.
Later, Quill is listening to music. 'Father and Son' by Cat Stevens plays. Groot crawls up next to him, Quill takes out an ear bud and gives it to Groot.
"Aw." Everyone cooed.
Gamora watches as Nebula departs.
Rocket looks out the window and says they came.
"Who came." Steve asked.
"You'll see." Quill said, smiling.
Groot points out the window, Quill looks up and sees a fleet of ships.
Drax asks what it is.
Rocket says he sent word to Yondu's Ravager buddies and told them what he did.
Quill walks out and says it's a Ravager funeral.
Everyone cheered. "That's the funeral he deserved." Quill said.
The Ravagers set off fireworks. Kraglin notices and starts cheering. Kraglin hits his chest twice.
"He's so happy." Clint said.
Staker watches the fireworks. A Ravager says Yondu didn't let them down after all.
Staker says he didn't. His group all hit their chests twice.
"No, he didn't." Everyone agreed.
Another Group watches. Their captain bids Yondu a farewell and his group hits their chests twice.
Another group watches. Their captain says she'll see Yondu in the stars and they all hit their chests twice.
The Guardians all hit their chests twice in time with the three women on screen.
Rocket says Yondu didn't chase them away even though he yelled at them and was always mean and stole batteries he didn't need.
Quill says of course not.
Groot reaches for Drax and Gamora hands him to Drax. Groot falls asleep.
"He's so cute." Shuri said.
Gamora and Quill look at each other. Quill asks 'what?'
Gamora says it's some unspoken thing.
"I knew you'd see it." Quill said.
"Shut up." Gamora said, but there was no real heat behind it.
Gamora and Quill put their arms around each other as they watch the fireworks.
Mantis watches too and says it's beautiful.
"It really is." Pepper said.
Drax agrees and says Mantis is too on the inside.
"Well, I guess that's the best complement you'll get from Drax." Gamora said.
Kraglin tries to figure out how to use the arrow.
"He'll get the hang of it... eventually." Quill said.
Stakar talks to the Ravager captains he says it's a shame it took the tragedy of losing Yondu to bring them together again but he thinks Yondu would be proud knowing they're a team.
The other Ravager captains agree to be a team.
"I think he would be." Gamora said.
Ayesha is sitting, another Sovereign walks in and tells her the council is waiting.
Ayesha says they're perturbed she wasted their resources she says their wrath will dissipate when they she what she's created.
"What did she do?" Drax asked.
The Sovereign girl asks if this is a new type of birthing pod.
Ayesha says it's the next step in their evolution she says it's more powerful, beautiful and more capable of destroying the Guardians of the Galaxy.
"Oh dear."
She looks at the pod and says she thinks she'll call him Adam.
"The perfect Sovereign." Gamora realized.
Teenage Groot is in his room playing video games. The room is covered with vines.
"Oh no, he's a teenager now." May said. "Prepare yourselves."
Quill walks in and tells him to clean up his room because it's a complete mess.
"Yeah."
"I am Groot." Quill says he isn't boring and calls Groot boring and says that sitting playing that mind-numbing game is boring an so is tripping over vines.
"I think we need to work on your definition of the word 'boring.' Shuri said.
Quill says he isn't boring.
"I am Groot." Quill says he knows how Yondu felt.
"Karmas a bitch." Tony said.
The Watchers start walking away from the old man(Stan Lee.) He asks where they're going and says they were supposed to be his lift home then asks how he's supposed to get out of there. He tells them that he has more stories.
"I'm sure he has plenty of stories." Scott said.
