Thor is in Muspelheim, chained in a cage. Thor says he knows they're thinking 'Oh no Thor's in a cage how did this happen?'.
"Why are you in a cage?" Steve asked.
Thor says that sometimes you need to get captured to get a straight answer out of somebody.
"Very ture." Natasha said.
Thor says he's a bit of a hero and he spent some time on Earth, fought some robots and saved the planet a couple of times then he went searching through the cosmos for some magical Infinity Stone things but didn't find any.
"That's because most of them have already been found and are safe." Strange said.
Thor says that's when he came across the path of death and destruction which led him to the cage.
"I'm sorry, what? Death and destruction?" Clint asked.
He says that's where he met the skeleton he's talking to. The skeleton's jaw falls off.
"Thor, I say this in the nicest way possible. Are you well?" Tony asked.
Thor asks how much longer they'll be there. The bottom of the cage breaks and Thor's chain unravels stopping before he hits the ground. Surtur is sitting on a throne across from him.
"Surtur? I thought he was dead." Thor said.
Surtur greets Thor by calling him the son of Odin.
Thor calls Surtur a son of a bitch and notes that he's still alive and says he thought Odin killed him a half a million years ago.
"Evidentially not." Loki said.
Surtur says he can't die until he fulfils his destiny and lay waste to Asgard.
"So this fire demon thing... he causes Ragnarok?" Tony asks.
"To put it simply... yes, but it's more complicated than that." Valkyrie said.
Thor says it's funny that he mentioned that because he's been having terrible dreams of Asgard going up in flames and falling to ruins and Surtur is at the center of all of them.
"I'm sorry... for showing you that." Wanda apologized.
Surtur says Thor's seen Ragnarok, the fall of Asgard and the great prophecy.
Thor's chain spins and Thor tells Surtur hang on and he'll be back around shortly and says he feels like they were connecting there.
Everyone started laughing. "I never knew you could be funny." Clint said.
Thor turns back around and tells Surtur to walk him through Ragnarok.
Surtur says his time has come and when his crown is reunited with the eternal flame he'll be restored to his full might and he'll tower over the mountains and plunge his sword deep into Asgard.
"That all sounds awful." Bruce said.
Thor's chain turns again and he tells Surtur to give it a second and says he swears he isn't moving and the chain is doing it on it's own.
Everyone laughed again. "Chains will do that to you." Quill said.
Thor says Surtur is going to put his crown on the eternal flame and then he'll suddenly grow as big as a house.
Surtur corrects him and says mountain.
Thor asks if it's the eternal flame that Odin keeps locked away on Asgard.
Surtur says Odin isn't on Asgard.
Everyone glanced at Loki. "How did Surtur know that Odin wasn't on Asgard?" Hope asked.
Surtur says Thor's absence has left the throne defenceless.
Thor asks where Surtur's crown is.
Surtur points to the crown on his head and says it's the source of his power.
Thor says he thought that was a big eyebrow.
"Thor." Loki sighed.
"It does look like a big eyebrow, if eyebrows were metal and were a power source for fire demons." Valkyrie said.
Thor says that it sounds like all he needs to do to stop ragnarok is rip Surtur's crown off his head.
"Sounds simple enough." Thor said.
"It's never that simple, you know that." Natasha said.
Surtur stands up and says Ragnarok has already begun and Thor can't stop it. Surtur walks up to Thor and says he is Asgard's doom and Thor is too and all will suffer and burn.
"Sounds dramatic." Rocket said.
Thor says that sounds intense and says that seeing Surtur grow really big and set fire to a planet would be quite the spectacle.
"Oh, it was." Valkyrie said, quiet enough that Thor couldn't hear her even though he was sitting a foot away.
Thor says he'll have to choose option B where he busts out of the chains, knock the tiara off Surtur's head and stashes it away in Asgard's vault.
"Which also happens to be where you said the eternal flame was." Sam said. "Are you sure that's the best place to put the crown?"
Surtur says Thor can't stop Ragnarok and asks why he's fighting it.
Thor says that's what heroes do.
"I need a hero." Peter sang.
"I'm holding out for a hero to the end of the night." Ned continued.
Thor tries to summon Mjolnir but it doesn't come. Thor says he didn't time that right. Thor breaks out of the chains and Mjolnir flies to his hand.
"Ha ha, now he's in for it." Clint said.
Surtur says Thor's made a grave mistake.
Thor says he makes grave mistakes all the time.
"Same." The teenagers said.
Thor says everything seems to work out. He starts fighting fire demons, a group tackles him but he shoves them off. He spins Mjolnir around and hits a group of fire demons. He then throws Mjolnir and it circles around him and hits a bunch of fire demons.
"That looked pretty badass." Quill said.
Thor calls Mjolnir back to his hand and uses it to take out more fire demons. A dragon emerges from its cage but it's chained.
"Is that a dragon?" Happy asked.
"Yes." Thor said, nonchalantly.
Thor jumps up and summons lightning before bringing Mjolnir down and using the lightning to take out some fire demons.
"Nice."
Surtur uses his sword to shoot fire at Thor, Thor spins Mjolnir to block the fire. Thor jumps up and hits Surtur over the head, then throws Mjolnir at him. Thor jumps to a ledge and uses his hammer to knock Surtur's crown off.
"That was fast."Scott said.
Thor chains up the crown and wraps it around his shoulders. More fire demons rush toward him.
"Oh no."
Thor tells Heimdall that he could use a fast exit.
In the observatory, Skurge tells the 2 women with him that Heimdall was an idiot.
"He was smarter than you were. Loki said.
"Where's Heimdall?" Thor asked Loki.
Skurge says this job should've made him rich. He says the job isn't easy but it has it's benefits.
"Who is that?" Sam asked.
"His name was Skurge." Loki answered. "The new gatekeeper."
Skurge says the Biforst gives him access to everything the nine realms has to offer and it's all his for the taking.
"So... he's a thief." Fury said.
Skurge shows off his stuff, which consists of junk from other planets. He picks up 2 guns and says he's fond of them. He says he pulled them out of Texas and named them Des and Troy because when they're put together they destroy.
"Very creative." Natasha said.
On Muspelheim, Thor fights off fire demons. The dragon emerges from its cave and breaks it's chain. Thor flies up and crashes through the top of the cave and calls for Heimdall again. The dragon flies up through the cave.
"Oh shit."
The dragon bites Thor, who drops Mjolnir on the dragon's tongue so it can't move.
"Smart move." Bruce said, remembering when Thor did a similar thing to Hulk to try and subdue him.
Thor calls for Heimdall once more.
In the observatory, the 2 girls notice a blinking light. Skurge plays with a shake weight.
"Not the shake weight." Tony laughed.
Skurge grabs Heimdall's sword and uses it to open the Bifrost.
Thor summons Mjolnir and flies away, the dragon chases him. The dragon tries to swallow Thor. The Bifrost bridge appears, Thor and the dragon's head get taken to Asgard.
"Well, at least the Dragon's taken care of." Valkyrie said
Skurge and the 2 girls in the observatory get splashed with Dragon insides. The head slides toward them, the girls run away.
"Yeah, can't say I blame them. That's pretty disgusting." Scott said.
Skurge sarcastically thanks Thor for scaring his company away and drenching the workplace in brains.
Thor asks Skurge who he is.
Skurge tells Thor his name and asks if he remembers him and says they fought together on Vanaheim.
"You've met before?" Maria asked.
"Apparently." Thor said.
Thor asks where Heimdall is.
Skurge says Heimdall is a traitor and fugitive to the throne and no one knows where he is.
"What?" Thor asked.
"The hell happened when you were away?" Clint asked.
Thor is confused by this. Skurge says Odin charged Heimdall negligence of duty but he disappeared before the trial and it's hard to catch a guy who can see everything in the universe.
"I'd imagine it would be." Coulson agreed.
Thor goes to fly out of the observatory. Skurge tells him to hold on because he's supposed to announce Thor's arrival. Thor flies away. Skurge sighs and jogs after him.
Everyone giggled. Poor Skurge.
Thor flies through Asgard and lands near the theater. He sees a large statue of Loki.
"Loki, why is there a giant statue of you?" Thor asked.
"Um... reasons." Loki answered.
Thor walks closer to the stage where a play of Loki's 'death' is being performed.
Actor Thor calls actor Loki a fool and tells actress Sif to get help.
"But... Sif wasn't on Svartalfheim... when you 'died'." Ned said, confused.
Loki apologizes for everything.
Actor Thor tells him it's alright.
"Is... is that Matt Damon?" Tony asked.
Actor Loki apologizes for trying to rule Earth.
Actor Thor says they'd be lucky to have him.
"No, I think we're good." Fury said.
Actor Loki apologizes for the whole thing with the tesseract and says he couldn't help himself then apologizes for turning Thor into a frog.
Actor Thor says it was a wonderful joke.
'Odin' agrees and says it was hilarious.
"Wait, did that actually happen?" Tony asked.
"Yes, and it was hilarious." Loki said.
"No it wasn't." Thor said.
"Yes it was." Loki countered.
Actor Loki tells actor Thor to tell his story and build a statue for him.
Actor Thor says they'll build a big statue for him.
Actor Loki tells actor Thor to add his helmet with the big bendy horns.
"Cow." Thor joked, lightheartedly.
"Feathers." Loki responded.
Actor Thor says he'll tell Odin what he did there today.
Actor Loki says he didn't do it for him, 'Odin' mouths the words with the actor. Actor Loki dies, a choir starts singing, Actor Thor screams.
"Little over the top, don't you think?" Scott asked.
Actor Odin says Loki died and gave his life for theirs and fought back the disgusting elves and brought peace to the realm.
"Except you didn't die." Thor said.
A smaller Blue actor Loki crawls onto a rock. Actor Odin says it was many moons ago when he found him on a frostbitten battlefield and he didn't see Asgard's savior in him then.
"Asgard's savior?" Thor asked.
Actor Odin says Loki was a little blue baby icicle that melted his heart.
"Blue baby icicle." Tony said, giggling.
The audience claps, 'Odin' claps with them.
"We should clap, right?" Quill asked, then everyone joined the people onscreen in clapping as the play ended.
Thor greets 'Odin' who chokes on his wine.
'Odin' announces that Thor has returned and greets him back.
Thor says that was in interesting play and asks what it was called.
'Odin' says it was called 'The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard' and says the people wanted to commemorate him.
"Or... you wanted to commemorate yourself." Thor said.
Thor says they should and says he likes the statue and says it looks better than Loki did when he was alive and says it's less weaselly and greasy. 'Odin' makes a face.
"Hey." Loki said, offended.
Thor holds up Surtur's crown and asks if 'Odin' knows what it is.
'Odin' recognizes it as the Skull of Surtur and says it's a formidable weapon.
"That has the power to destroy the entire planet." Thor added.
Thor hands the crown to an Einherjar and tells him to lock it away in the weapons vault so it doesn't turn into a giant monster and destroy the whole planet.
"Yeah that would be um... not ideal." Bucky said.
'Odin' asks Thor if he's going back to Midgard.
Thor says he isn't and starts tossing Mjolnir around. He says he's been having a reoccuring dream where he sees Asgard falling into ruins.
'Odin' says it's a silly dream and it's signs of an overactive imagination.
"Maybe... maybe not." Bruce said.
Thor says he decided to go out and investigate and says he found the Nine realms completely in chaos, Asgard's enemies plotting their demise while 'Odin' sits in his bathrobe and eats grapes.
Loki sighed. Why had he let himself get so careless?
'Odin' says he was trying to respect their neighbors freedoms.
Thor says it's the freedom to be massacred.
'Odin' says he's been busy himself with board meetings and security council meetings.
"Are those even a thing on Asgard?" Shuri asked.
"Board meetings, no. Security council meetings, yes but that's not what they're called on Asgard." Thor answered.
Thor asks if 'Odin' is really going to make him do it.
"Make you do what?" Peggy asked.
Thor throws Mjolnir and grabs 'Odin's' neck and says that nothing will stop Mjolnir as it returns to his hand, including 'Odin's' face.
'Odin' says Thor's gone mad and he'll be executed.
Thor says he'll see 'Odin' on the other side and calls him brother.
"Cover? Blown. Odin? Loki." Peter said.
"Hotel? Trivago." Ned finished.
Loki turns back into himself and yields. The citizens are shocked.
"And... exposed." Clint said.
Loki turns around and smiles. Skurge runs in and announces that Thor's returned.
"Little late for that, buddy." Hope said.
Loki snaps his finger and tells Skurge that he had one job.
Fury snorted. He could relate to that feeling. Damn new agents not doing their jobs.
Thor asks Loki where Odin is.
Loki says asks if Thor couldn't stay away and says everything was fine without him.
"Was it really?" Natasha asked.
Loki says Asgard was prospering and Thor's ruined everything.
Thor storms toward Loki and asks where Odin is and if Loki killed him.
"No I did not kill him." Loki said. "Even if I didn't like him, I couldn't kill him."
Loki backs up and says Thor had what he wanted and the independence that he asked for. Thor uses Mjolnir to shove Loki into a chair, Loki says he knows exactly where Odin is.
"The retirement home in New York, if I remember correctly?" Bruce asked.
Thor and Loki, now in Midgardian clothes, stand in front of a newly demolished 'Shady Acres Care Home.'
"Um... that's not good." Scott said.
Loki says he swears he left Odin right there.
Thor asks if he means on the sidewalk or where the building's being demolished then says it was great planning.
Loki asks how he was supposed to know then says he can't see into the future because he isn't a witch.
"Witches can see the future?" Peter asked.
Thor asks why he dresses like one. Loki is offended.
"You do dress like a witch." Tony agreed.
Thor says he can't believe Loki's alive then says he saw him die and mourned and cried for him.
Loki says he's honored.
Thor rolled his eyes, exasperated. "You're impossible."
"I know." Loki said.
2 girls walk up to Thor and ask for a picture.
Thor tells Loki to figure out where Odin is. Loki rolls his eyes and steps out of the way so they can take a picture.
"Such a diva." Natasha said, referring to Loki.
They take the picture, one of the girls says she's sorry Jane dumped him. The girls walk away.
"What?" Thor asked. "Jane... dumped me?"
"Oh, Jane dumps you in the future?" Clint asked. "I'm sorry, that's rough."
Thor tells Loki that Jane didn't dump him but he dumped her and it was a mutual dumping. Loki pats his shoulder.
One of Doctor Strange's portals appears under Loki's feet. Thor asks Loki what he's doing.
Loki says it isn't him and gets sucked into the portal.
"You?" Tony asked Strange.
"Me." Strange confirmed.
A card is left in Loki's place. Thor pokes it with his umbrella, thinking it might be Loki.
"You thought the card was Loki?" Valkyrie asked.
"Well, he's shapeshifted into may things, sometimes I need to be sure." Thor defended.
Thor picks up the card that reads '177a Bleeker Street.'
"The New York Sanctum?" Maria asked, recognizing the address.
Thor arrives at the Sanctum. He knocks on the door twice and on the third knock he finds himself inside.
"Weird."
Strange is in the window, he greets Thor, floats over to him and says he can put the umbrella down.
"Why do you even have an umbrella?" Gamora asked.
"It's not an umbrella, It's Mjolnir disguised as an umbrella." Thor answered.
"You can disguise Mjolnir? Cool." Rhodey said.
Thor puts the umbrella down and is transferred to another room. He starts messing with a relic and makes a comment about Earth having wizards now.
"Not a wizard a sorcerer." Strange said.
"Aren't they the same thing?" Sam asked.
Thor puts the piece back and knocks down other pieces in the process. Strange says the preferred term is 'Master of the Mystic Arts' and tells Thor to leave the relic alone.
Thor asks who Strange is and why he should care.
"Would it kill you to be a little polite?" Strange asked with a sigh.
Strange tells Thor his name and says he has some questions for him.
"Want kind of questions?" Thor asked.
Strange tells Thor to take a seat and suddenly they're sat across from one another. Strange asks Thor if he'd like tea.
Thor says he doesn't drink tea.
Strange asks what he does drink.
Thor says it's not tea. The tea turns into a pint of beer.
"Nice." Tony said.
Strange says he keeps a watchlist of individuals from other realms that may be a threat to Earth and Loki is one of those beings.
Thor says he's a worthy inclusion.
"Yeah." Loki had to agree.
Strange asks why he brought Loki there.
Thor says they're looking for Odin.
Strange asks if he were to tell Thor where Odin was they'd all return to Asgard.
"You know where Odin is?" Vision asked.
Thor says they would.
Strange says he'll help them.
"Great." Thor said.
Thor asks why Strange didn't call him if he knew where Odin was.
Strange says Odin was adamant that he not be disturbed and says Odin chose to remain in exile.
"That's suspicious, that's weird." Ned said.
Strange adds that Thor doesn't have a phone.
Thor says he doesn't have a phone but Strange could've sent an electronic letter called and E-Mail.
Strange asks Thor if he has a computer.
Thor says he doesn't and asks what he'd need it for.
"I- you would need it for- everything you just- Ugh!" Tony said, frustrated.
"You broke Tony." Rhodey said.
"You should really take some time and learn about Earth tech if you're going to be here for extended amounts of time." Bruce told Thor.
Thor says Odin is no longer in exile and asks Strange to tell him where Odin is so he can take him home.
Strange says Odin is in Norway.
"I'm not surprised." Coulson said.
They move to a different room, Thor stumbles. Strange flips through a book and says he's just trying to see if the incantation requires Asgardian modifications.
Strange continues moving them around, Thor keeps stumbling, he sets his mug dow and asks Strange to stop doing that.
"You should've drank the tea." Strange told Thor.
Strange tells Thor that he needs a strand of his hair.
Thor says his hair is not to be meddled with.
"Oh. Then you're going to hate what Sakaar has in store for you." Valkyrie said.
Strange takes a strand of Thor's hair and starts doing magic with it. He moves them to the foyer.
Thor falls down the stairs and says they could've walked.
"Where's the fun in that?" Strange asked.
Strange uses the hair to make a portal to Norway and says Odin is waiting and reminds him not to forget his umbrella.
Thor holds his hand out to summon Mjolnir, things throughout the sanctum can be heard breaking. Thor apologizes and the umbrella flies into his hand.
Strange sighed.
Thor says he'll need Loki back. Strange opens the other portal and Loki falls through, lands on the ground and says he's been falling for 30 minutes.
Everyone started laughing.
'I'll have my revenge.' Loki thought to himself.
Strange says Thor can handle Loki from there.
Thor says he can and thanks Strange for his help.
Strange wishes Thor luck.
"You're gonna need it." Strange said.
Loki stands up, draws 2 daggers, asks Strange who he is and if he thinks he's some kind of sorcerer then calls him a second rate. Loki gets closer to Strange who sends both him and Thor through the portal, Loki falls in the grass.
"Well that's one way to get rid of them." Tony said.
Loki stands up, he and Thor see Odin on the cliffside.
"Family reunion." Tony said.
Thor walks up to Odin. Odin tells Thor to look at this place and says it's beautiful.
"It is." Wanda agreed.
Loki walks up to them. Odin greets his sons and says he's been waiting for them.
Thor says they've come to take him home.
Odin says that Frigga is calling him and asks if they hear it.
"What?" Thor asked, now worried.
"Is he... okay?" Howard asked.
Thor tells Loki to lift his magic. Loki shakes his head as if to says it's not him doing this.
Odin tells Loki that it took a while for him to break free of his spell and says Frigga would've been proud.
Tears formed in Loki's eyes, as he remembered this moment.
Odin tells them to sit with him because he doesn't have much time. The 3 of them all sit on a rock.
"Is... is father dying?" Thor asked.
Thor says he knows he and Loki failed Odin but they can make it right.
Odin says he failed them and says Ragnarok is upon them.
"But you just stopped Surtur..." Ned said.
Thor says he's stopped Ragnarok and put an end to Surtur.
Odin says it's already begun and says she's coming and his life was all that held her back but his time has come.
Tears sprang to Thor's eyes, his suspicions were confirmed. Odin was dying.
Odin says he can't keep her away any longer.
Thor asks who Odin is talking about.
Odin says he's talking about his firstborn who is their sister Hela: The Goddess of Death.
"What!?" Everyone shouted, surprised at the revelation.
"We have... we have another sibling?" Thor asked. "Father had another child?"
"One that he never told us about? Yes." Loki answered.
Odin says Hela's vionet apaities grew beyond his control and he couldn't stop her so he imprisoned her and locked her away.
"Seems to be a running theme with him." Valkyrie commented.
Odin says Hela draws her strength from Asgard and when she gets there her powers will be limitless.
Thor says they can stop Hela together.
Odin says they won't and tells them that he's on a different path and they must face Hela alone.
"So... he's making you clean up his mess?" Tony asked.
Odin tells Thor and Loki that he loves them and tells them to remember this place as home. Odin fades away in gold dust.
Thor started quietly crying, first mother was killed and now father was dead? Why was the universe so cruel?
Loki kept a straight face but there were still tears in his eyes.
Thor and Loki walk to the cliffside. The sky gets darker and lightning appears at Thor's fingertips, he blames Loki for Odin's death.
"Thor..."
A green portal forms. Loki uses magic to change into his armor, Thor slams Mjolnir down and changes into his armor. Hela steps out of the portal, it closes behind her. Hela says Odin is gone and it's a shame because she would've liked to have seen it.
"Of course she would have." Nebula said.
Thor says she must be Hela and introduces himself as Thor, son of Odin.
Hela says Thor doesn't look like Odin.
Loki suggests that they come to an arrangement.
Hela says Loki sounds like Odin.
"Presumably because I've been him for about 4 years." Loki said.
Hela tells them to kneel.
"Thor... no offence, but are you 100% sure that you aren't the adopted one?" Sam asked.
Loki says he begs her pardon.
Hela draws a sword and tells them to kneel before their queen.
Thor says he doesn't think so and throws Mjolnir at her, she stops it.
"What- how?" Scott asked.
Thor says that's not possible.
Hela says Thor has no idea what's possible then breaks Mjolnir and it lets off a strong lightning blast.
Thor gasped.
"I didn't think that was possible." Hope said. "Isn't Mjolnir made of the strongest metal in the universe or something?"
Hela's headdress forms on her head, she draws 2 swords and walks toward Thor and Loki. Loki calls for Skurge to bring them back.
"Bad idea, you remember what Odin said about her having unlimited power on Asgard." Bucky said.
The Bifrost opens, Thor and Loki are sucked in, Hela follows. Loki throws a dagger at Hela who catches it and throws it back at him and knocks him out of the Bifrost.
"Loki." Thor gasped, worried.
Thor starts fighting Hela who chokes him and throws him out of the Bifrost.
"No!"
Hela walks into the Observatory. Volstagg closes the Bifrost. Hela pauses for a moment before killing both Fandral and Volstagg and introducing herself.
Thor's eyes widened in horror and sorrow.
Skurge kneels and tells her he's just a janitor.
"Liar."
Hela tells him that he looks like a smart boy with good survival instincts and asks of he'd like a job.
