Peter rushes back to his hotel room. Ned meets him in the hall and hugs him, saying that they almost died. Peter says it's fine and that he's done with the mission.
"What part of this is fine to you, Peter?" May asked, frustration nearly overwhelming her. Her nephew was in another country with a madman, with a vendetta against Tony Stark, out to get him. Nick Fury wouldn't leave him alone and instead just decided to move a classful of kids toward the danger continuously. "None of this is fine."
Ned tells Peter that the trip is over because there's monsters coming up from the ground everywhere they go and their parents want them home.
"Understandable." Clint said. If these were his kids, him and Laura would've come to get them back when they were still in Venice. No chances will be taken. None.
Mr. Harrington is on the phone, he spots Peter and pulls him into a side hug relieved that he isn't dead. He tells Ned to put some clothes on and says they're booking flights.
"Damn." Peter sighed. Nick Fury hijacked his class' vacation to get his help, which he did , and now he didn't even get to enjoy the rest of it. Just his luck. To top it all off he knows he'll have to face Mysterio again and he isn't sure how he'll be able to do that. His illusion tech is nearly infallible. Nearly. And he is a... really good manipulator.
Mr. Dell says they came for science and they're leaving because of witches and welcomes them to the new dark ages.
"Do they sell tickets to that or is it free admission?" MJ asked.
Peter asks Ned what's going on.
"Vacations over." Tony said to Peter. "Were you not listening?"
Ned tells him that they're going home in the morning. Peter protests, saying that the elementals are gone.
"Teachers and parents don't know that. And even if the elementals are gone- which they never existed in the first place, Mysterio-Quentin Beck- whoever- is still a threat, one that a group of teenagers on a class trip should steer clear of." Strange said.
"Not all of us get that choice." Peter reminded him.
Betty calls Ned and he goes to her. Flash peeks out of his room and asks them to keep it down because he's live-streaming.
"I don't understand why he livestreams so much, he doesn't even have that many followers." Ned said.
"If he doesn't live stream every hour how will the Flash Mob know what he's having for lunch or what errands he's running?" MJ asked, rhetorically.
MJ opens her own door and asks Peter where he was.
Peter lies, telling her he got lost.
"Terrible excuse, but I guess it's more plausible than your others." Natasha said.
MJ says they were worried about him but it's good he back and mulls over the fact that they aren't going to Paris anymore.
Peter says it would've been fun.
"Probably would have." MJ said to herself, keeping her voice down.
They bid each other goodnight and before Peter could finish telling her that she looked nice, MJ closes the door. Peter stands outside for a moment, working up the courage to knock on her door. He walks up to it and MJ opens the door again before he could knock.
Peter tells her that he isn't ready for this trip to be over yet and says he wants to do something that wasn't on the itinerary or planned with Mr. Harrington.
Ned gasped. "Peter, you rebel!" He said pretending to sound scandalized. As if Peter hadn't been breaking rules and going off by himself this entire time already.
MJ says 'Yes'. Peter asks for clarification on if that was a 'Yes she wants to go.' MJ confirms. Peter asks her to meet him outside in 10 minutes.
MJ tell him to meet her in 5. Peter agrees to the new time and walks off, MJ closes the door again.
At least something might go right on this trip. Peter thought to himself and he allowed a small smile to grace his lips.
Peter, now in casual clothes watches the news in the lobby, a reporter is talking about 'Night Monkey'.
"Oh, the name stuck. Guess you're Night Monkey now man, sorry." Ned said to Peter who just laughed.
MJ walks up to him, still in her dress, but now with a jacket. Peter asks where she wants to go, to which MJ responds that she doesn't care.
MJ and Peter are on a bridge.
"Is this that place you were googling?" May asked. "One of the romantic spots in Prague?"
Peter shrugged. Knowing himself, it was that place. And also knowing himself he's going to decide to tell MJ about his... feelings. If he doesn't chicken out and abandon the plan all together.
Peter says he's glad they're doing this and seeing the city a little bit. MJ shares an interesting fact about how executions used to take place on the bridge.
"That's one way to start a conversation." Ned said.
"You were the one who tried to start up a conversation about video games with Betty Ross, pot meet kettle." MJ replied.
MJ apologizes for the comment.
Peter says it's okay and tells her there's a thing he's been wanting to talk to her about for a while.
"It's happening." May said, grinning.
He says it's their last night in Europe and talks about his plan before just deciding to tell her. He pulls a box from his pocket. He starts to tell her and MJ finishes the sentence, assuming that he was telling her he was Spider-Man.
Peter sighed. That's not exactly what he was going for. But, he supposed if he wanted to tell her how he felt than, he'd have to tell her that he was Spider-Man eventually. (And she'd told him herself when she found out while they were watching one of the other films that she had a inkling. And he's been told over and over that his excuses are terrible and... Michelle 'Very Observant' Jones, didn't really seem like the type to fall for them anyway.)
MJ says that he was going to say that he's Spider-Man.
"Well no." Peter said. "Well not 'No, I'm not Spider-Man. I am Spider-Man.' I just meant... that isn't what he-I?- was gonna say, I don't think." Peter said.
Peter denies it.
"No excuse? Just a denial? It it a wonder you've kept your identity a secret for this long, Parker." MJ said, amused.
MJ says she's been watching him for a while and it's kind of obvious. Peter continues to deny it and asks what made her think he was Spider-Man.
"Peter, What didn't?" MJ asked.
"I um." Peter paused, thinking back to all the moments could've incriminated him. Washington was dicey... homecoming? He left so abruptly. He wasn't so flakey...before. And if Washington wasn't suspicious, now 'Spider-Man' is making an appearance on yet another class trip. He haphazardly hid himself in Venice. "You know... thinking back on it."
"It's obvious?" MJ asked.
"Little bit." Peter agreed.
"More like a lot a bit." Tony said.
MJ reminds him of Washington and says he disappears out of no where for no reason.
Peter reminds her that he said he was sick.
"Add terrible excuses for said disappearing to that list." MJ said.
MJ asks if he knows Susan Yang thinks he's a make escort.
"Of course she does. Susan loves rumors." Peter sighed.
Peter says he isn't a male escort to which MJ replies that he must be Spider-Man.
"So my two options are either I'm a male escort or I'm Spider-Man?" Peter asked.
"Yes. Pick one." MJ answered.
Peter continues to deny it. MJ says that he snuck off and fought the elemental and she saw him.
Peter says she couldn't have because he isn't Spider-Man and on the news they said it was 'Night Monkey.'
"Peter..." Ned sighed. "Give it up, she's not an idiot and you're making yourself look dumb."
"Thanks, Ned." Peter said sarcastically.
MJ repeats the name, skeptically. Peter says that's what it said on the news and the news never lies.
"I know you don't believe that." May laughed.
MJ opens her backpack, pulls out the web-covered projector she found at the carnival and asks if Spider-Man and Night Monkey use the same webs.
"How are you gonna try to dig out of this one?" Natasha asked.
"Plausible deniability?" Peter proposed. There's no way to prove that the webs are the exact same right? Who knows, there could be other web themed vigilantes.
"Peter, be serious." Ned said.
Peter says Night Monkey could be a Spider-Monkey before asking if she was only watching him because she thought he was Spider-Man. MJ lies, asking why else she'd be watching him.
"Oh." Peter said throat and chest tightening slightly at the perceived rejection. MJ didn't care about Peter Parker, she just wanted to figure out that he was Spider-Man.
Peter says it doesn't matter and goes to say something else before the projector turns on again, briefly projecting an image of an elemental. He cautiously bends down to pick it up. MJ asks if it's some kind of projector and says it looked so real.
It was real. Peter wanted to say, but didn't, because that wouldn't be true. Was it all fake, though? The property damage, the injuries people sustained, the danger they were all in? Everything?
MJ and Peter realize that the Elementals were fake. Peter says it doesn't make any sense because they were there and there was fire and destruction. He wonders who would do something like that.
"It wasn't me, so we've only got one option." Fury said.
The projector powers on again, this time showing Mysterio fighting the Elemental. Peter finally comes clean about being Spider-Man and says he really messed up.
"Oh my god what did I do?" Peter sighed.
MJ asks if he's being serious and not joking because it's not funny and says she was only 67% sure and wonders why he's on a school trip.
"What? Am not allowed on a school trip because I'm Spider-Man?" Peter wondered. Although, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing. Trouble always seems to follow him when he's with his class someplace.
Peter says he's sure she as questions but they need to leave. They start walking back, MJ is happy with herself, having figured out who Spider-Man is.
At least it's one less person I care about that I have to lie to. Peter thought. MJ knowing was a relief, honestly, he hated lying to her, he hated lying to Ned and May for months about where he was and what he was doing.
Mysterio and his team watch a projection of Mysterio fighting an Elemental. Mysterio asks to pause. William pauses the simulation. Mysterio asks to fast forward to the end. William does and pauses it again when prompted. Mysterio makes a comment about not loving the choreography.
"'Choreography.'" Sam scoffed. The man was dressed in a motion capture suit, pretending to fight fake monsters. What kind of a joke is this?
He asks William to kill the image and de-cloak the drones and they talk about weaponizing the drones. William tests them, the drones fire at some pillars. Mysterio says it's missing something then tells William to run it again but with twice the damage. The simulation starts, the pillars get wiped to pieces.
Peter paled. This was what he was up against!? How is he supposed to stand a change against those?
Mysterio cheers and asks if they're on schedule. William says they're uploading the software hack to the EDITH network.
"Oh God." Peter groaned, guilt eating at him, he wanted to yell at his future self for being careless with the glasses, wishing he hadn't been so susceptible to Myeterio's manipulations. Although, he'd be lying if it didn't make him feel marginally better that Fury and Agent Hill also seemed to have fallen for it.
William says they can create an event big enough to cover an entire city with EDITH's drones.
"He would destroy an entire city for people to believe he's a hero?"
Mysterio tells him to make sure every drone is weapons hot because they need maximum damage.
Guterman points out that it'll cause a lot of casualties.
"At least one person has enough common sense to put two and two together and still get four, because somehow Mysterio ended up with fourteen and I don't know how we got here." Ned said. Everything felt as though it had jumped from 0 to 100 in less than a second and he could barely keep up with it. First there's Elemental monsters, but no those aren't real. Then Quentin Beck, someone he thought was a good guy is actually a madman, and now he's talking about destroying a city to what? Prove to the people of Earth that he's a hero? No, thank you.
Mysterio says more casualties means more coverage and he needs to cut through the static. He says London is a beautiful city and they will suffer but they can re-build.
"But those people that you're talking about potentially killing cannot bring themselves back to life." Okoye said, upper lip curled in disgust.
He says he needs to save the world from an Avengers- level threat if he's going to be the next Iron Man.
"For someone who seems to hate you so much, he seems to want to be you pretty bad." Scott said. "He could have remained Mysterio, but he insists on being the next Iron Man, why tie yourself to something you claim to loathe?"
Mysterio holds his hands in the 'savior' position, steps into his holographic suit and says that the casualties will be forgotten when a new Savior descends.
"So now he thinks he's a God?" Bruce asked. He's had just about enough of insane megalomaniacs with God complexes for one lifetime. "Or what? a Prophet?"
Mysterio asks Janice if she'll be in position with the quick change armor when he does his victory lap.
"Victory lap? you've gotta be kidding me."Rhodey said. "It's all a performance. A very real, very destructive, very elaborate performance."
"But even the most elaborate schemes still have holes." Clint said.
When Janice goes to as a question, Mysterio waves her off, he projection around his arm glitches, he asks William what's going on with his hand. William tells him that one of the drones came back from the plaza with a missing projector and tells him it'll be fine because it's only one.
Except it wasn't just one lost projector. It was incriminating evidence, that was now in the hands of his 'Enemies'. "He's gonna go looking for it." MJ realized. And they have it. Shit.
Mysterio tells hm that the projector is evidence that will tell people what they're doing and how they're doing it.
"You bet your ass it will" Maria said. Hoping that this will be what can put Quentin Beck away for a long time. Though, she knows how unlikely that is, one can hope.
Mysterio says he's trying to fool 7 billion people including Nick Fury who happens to be the most paranoid and most dangerous person on the planet and if he(Fury) catches on before he(Beck) kills him, than Fury will put a bullet in his head.
"You're damn right I will." Fury spoke.
Mysterio says nobody wants a bullet in their head, and commands the drones to aim at William's forehead and asks him to pull up EDITH, then asks EDITH to locate the missing projector. EDITH shows footage of MJ picking up the projector, and then showing Peter.
"Oh no." Peter breathed out, feeling like his blood had suddenly turned to ice. He'd made an enemy in Mysterio and now everyone was going to be in trouble. Sometimes he wished he wasn't so trusting, it only gets him in trouble.
Mysterio says that one day after he's had to kill Peter parker, he hopes William knows that the blood will be on his hands.
"That's not how that works." Coulson said. The blood will always be on the hands of he who gave the order, not the mindless drone who carried out the deed. Though Coulson doubted he cared much, Quentin Beck didn't seem like the type of man to harbor a guilty conscience. He's been doing what he does long enough to know that.
In his hotel room with MJ, Peter frantically closes the curtain and checks all the windows, whilst berating himself for giving Mysterio the glasses.
"Don't focus on what you did. Focus on what you're doing to fix it." T'Challa advised.
Peter says Mysterio is probably sending a drone to kill him. MJ is shocked to learn that Peter had access to killer drones.
"I can't believe you gave a teenager access to killer drones." Pepper said to Tony.
Peter shuts off his computer and says he didn't really want them especially after he nearly killed Brad.
"And this is why you shouldn't have given a teenager access to killer drones." Pepper said, gesturing to the screen with open arms as if to say 'see teenagers can be irresponsible and should not be able to access advanced weaponry.'
"Peter, you're being very nonchalant about this whole thing." Ned said.
MJ is shocked to learn that Peter nearly killed Brad. Peter tells MJ that he needs to call Fury to tell him that Beck is a fraud but he thinks Mysterio tapped his phone.
"Oh, he definitely did." Natasha said. Relieved that the kid had enough sense to think about these things even in a time of- what most likely is- panic.
MJ asks what he's going to do. Peter says he needs his suit and to get to Berlin to talk to Fury in person. He tears off his shirt and goes to continue changing and MJ politely looks away, though she tries to sneak a glance.
Ned appears in the doorway.
"You left the door unlocked!?" May shouted.
Peter is happy to see Ned. Ned, not in the know, tries to make up an excuse for Peter's suit, saying that 'his costume for the costume party at the princes castle looks great.'
"His excuses are worse than yours."
Peter says that MJ knows and that he told her.
MJ says Peter didn't tell her but she figured it out a long time ago.
"No I told you that I was Spider-Man. I said "I am Spider-Man." Peter protested.
"Yeah, after I confronted you about it and you couldn't keep lying anymore." MJ argued.
Ned nods. Peter tells him that Mysterio is a fraud, Ned doesn't believe him, saying that Mysterio saved his and Betty's lives.
"Lives that he put in danger in the first place. That's like stabbing someone and offering to stitch the wound back up." Bruce said.
MJ tells him that Mysterio's been faking everything with illusion tech.
Ned asks if they've been working the case together.
MJ says it's been mostly her.
Peter asks Ned to call May and ask her to call Mr. Harrington to tell him he's staying with family in Berlin.
"Is that allowed?" Steve asked. "I feel like that's not allowed." He's pretty sure schools have something against students leaving on their own for class trips, no matter what the circumstances are. Like at least 67% sure.
MJ comments about how they lie with such ease.
"They're men." Carol told her. "Or- boys."
Peter goes to leave, MJ tosses him the projector and says he'll need it.
"But if he takes it with him, won't Mysterio figure out that it moved and just go straight to Berlin instead?" Ned asked.
MJ's eyes widened but she quickly shook off her unease. Peter would be fine. Yeah, Peter would be fine. She told herself. "We'd need the proof though, he won't believe it if Peter just tells him." She said.
She's not wrong. Fury thought.
"Well then, I guess we have to hope that I get the projector to Mr. Fury before Mysterio gets to me." Peter said, though he didn't sound very confident in that. May wrapped her hand around Peter's forearm.
Peter tells them not to tell anyone about this because anyone who knows is in danger.
"So the usual." Ned nodded. Best friends of super hero end up in danger because of super hero best friends enemies.
Ned says it's cool that MJ knows too and adds that he's known first and longer but it's not a competition.
"Seems like you're trying to make it into one." MJ said.
"Psshhh No." Ned said, waving it off. "No."
Peter hitches a ride to Berlin atop a train and gets off in front of a nearby building. He tries to get help from a pedestrian who runs from him. 'Nick Fury' pulls up beside Peter in a black Audi and tells Peter to get in.
"Of course he knew I was coming." Peter sighed. The man probably still had eyes and ears everywhere even though he said he didn't anymore.
"I don't know." Natasha said. "He's good, but not that good. I'd tell you to be careful but- well." She gestured around the room, referencing the theater that they were all sitting in. "Don't think it'd do much good."
The second he gets in the car, Peter rips the mask off. 'Fury' tells him that he's got a lot of explaining to do.
"What do you mean he has explaining to do? He's not the one creating fictional monsters and destroying cities with illusions." May argued.
Peter tries to explain, 'Fury' tells him to wait until they're secure, then looks at him, and crosses one hand over his chest, indicating that Peter needs to put his seatbelt on.
"Safety First." Clint said.
"Click it or Ticket." Scott added.
"Wear your god damn seatbelts. Don't die." Bucky said. "I assume they're there for a reason and that they're meant to be used."
Peter and 'Fury' enter a secure office. 'Fury' asks Peter if there's anything he wants to tell them about his "Girlfriend."
Hill clarifies that he's talking about EDITH.
Peter tells them that he made a mistake and he's sorry and tells them that Mysterio isn't who they think he is and that everything was fake.
"It was fake but it was all so real... it's so confusing." Peter muttered.
He reveals that Mysterio has illusion tech and that's how he tricked them and tricked Peter into giving up EDITH then slides them the projector that came off the fire monster in Prague.
Fury doesn't seem to believe that all of the death and destruction came from that.
"It probably seems a little far fetched but hey, these are the times we're living in apparently." Times where purple aliens can reign terror and war on the universe then erase half the population. and madmen who use elaborate illusions of monsters in order to be called a hero.
Peter says he thinks Mysterio is using drones too. 'Fury' says if this is true than Beck is dangerous and they should be smart and asks Peter who else he told.
"About that." Peter said, guiltily. But in his defense, he never told MJ about it she was the one who brought it to him. He doesn't even know if he would have found out about the lies if she hadn't shown him the projector.
Peter suddenly freezes, when asked what's wrong, he tells them that Mysterio is there. 'Fury' grabs his gun. The building along with Hill are revealed to be illusions.
Natasha stared at the screen suspiciously. She looked next to her, to find Clint staring back at her with the same suspicion in his eyes. Good, they're on the same page. Beck's may seem real but no matter how much they may imitate something, they'll never be the real thing. It doesn't seem right that Fury didn't notice that Agent Hill wasn't Agent Hill.
They're actually in an abandoned warehouse.
"What the hell?" Peter whispered.
'Fury' goes to shoot, Peter tries to warn him that it's just an illusion, 'Fury' gets shot in the chest.
Maria startled not expecting that, suddenly thrown back to the last time her boss 'died.' It made her wonder if this was an illusion too. Beck obviously wanted to kill Fury- she sincerely doubts that he could, he didn't get his reputation for nothing- but something about the timing and circumstances doesn't add up.
A drone fires at Peter, causing him to stumble backward and fall quite a few stories down to the ground. Mysterio says he thought he and Peter were close and says Fury always had to die but he didn't.
"If you hurt him-" May started too angry/frustrated/worried/scared to even finish the threat.
Peter tells Mysterio to stop hiding, then shoots webs at the drones which are revealed to be illusions too.
Mysterio says he tried to help Peter walk away and now he's making him do this.
"He's not making you do anything. This is your choice. Yours alone." Wanda said.
"Ahh, but it's easier to absolve yourself of guilt when you blame someone else." Loki replied with a rueful smile. He'd had enough firsthand experiences with it to know- from both sides, actually.
The warehouse turns to nothing but darkness and Peter's black suit fades into his red one. Rows of lockers slam to the ground beside him and Mysterio appears before him, the ground is covered in green smoke. Mysterio says Peter told him he was just a kid.
"He is a kid. He is 16 years old. He is a kid." May said, feeling like she couldn't stress that fact enough. He is my kid and if anything happens to him so help he god Mysterio should be scared if she ever finds him.
Peter tries to shoot webs, but green smoke comes out instead. Mysterio says Peter told him he wanted to run after MJ.
Peter tries to punch Mysterio but his helmet turns t concrete just as his fist connects. Peter hears MJ calling out for help.
"Oh no." Peter whispered.
"Peter, Peter. It's not real. You know it's not real, you know that." Ned said.
"I know that." Peter said. "But I'm not so sure he does." He added, referring to his future self. Mysterio was a good manipulator, his illusions were even better so he can't be so sure whether or not his future self can distinguish what's really happening from what's not really happening. And maybe the fact that he seems to have been having trouble with his 6th sense may have a part to play. It's hard to dodge threats when your reliance system isn't working.
Peter bursts through a door only to find himself at the top of the Eiffel tower, 'MJ' asks him what's going on. Peter says he knows this isn't real. Mysterio asks if he really does. The moon turns to Mysterio's helmet and the rest of his body appears, he chokes 'MJ'.
"Don't-" Peter started but he didn't even know what he was going to say. He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. None of it is real. None of it is real. Everyone is okay- everyone but himself that is. But Ned and MJ and everyone else is at the hotel in Prague, they're fine.
Peter tries to help her, Mysterio drops her, causing Peter to dive after her only to land on solid ground. Mysterio says he doesn't think Peter knows what's real. Suddenly a little building with a 'Queens' florescent sign buzzing appears in front of him.
"This is making me dizzy." Quill said.
Mysterio's fist appears through the building and he punches Peter and he falls through glass and onto a car seemingly back in the real world as Mysterio tells him to "Wake up."
"Oh my god." Peter gasped. He doesn't ever want to experience that. Nope. Not for him.
"Is it over? It looks like its over." Mantis asked.
"Who's to say this isn't just another part of it?" Gamora answered.
Peter staggers to his feet, breathing heavily and looking around frantically.
The illusions come back and Peter is trapped in a circle of jagged mirrors. Mysterio tells him to look at himself.
Peter touches one of the mirrors and the reflections start attacking him, burying him.
Peter gasped. And curled in on himself in discomfort. Almost as if watching it, he could feel himself being buried by them- could feel them grabbing at him. It was unsettling.
Mysterio says he's just a scared kid in a sweat suit. The others fade and Peter is left standing in his original suit standing amongst large crumbled statues of the deceased Avengers. Mysterio's is intact and standing.
Steve scoffed at the statue. It's all one big show for him. He want's a monument with his name plastered on it in the center of the city where everyone could see. He's trying to mend a very broken, very fragile ego. Anyone with two working eyes could see it.
Mysterio says he created himself to give the world something to believe in. He says he controls the truth and Mysterio is the truth.
"Built on illusions and lies. I have no doubt that he can control what people believe to be true, but he cannot control the truth." Shuri said. "And it will get out... eventually." I hope.
Mysterio drops down beside Peter and starts attacking him with his lasers, leaving Peter to defend himself with his webs. Peter gets a hold of Mysterio, only for an illusion to fade into a giant piece of metal.
"Shit."
Mysterio continues shooting lasers, Peter flings himself out of the way, a concrete fist falls on him. The illusion turns to a cemetery.
Peter froze, hoping that this wasn't going to go the way he assumed it would. But when does he ever get what he want's? Of course it's going there, it's such an easy open would to pick at and pour salt on to make worse.
Mysterio suggests that Tony would still be alive if Peter were good enough.
Peter closed his eyes and nodded in acceptance as the words settled into his brain. A tear escaped his right eye and trailed down his face. It hasn't even happened yet and it's already effecting him so much. "Okay." He whispered. "Okay."
"It's not your fault kid. Right. He- future me- he made his choice. It's not your fault." Tony said, trying and, kind-of-but-not-really succeeding to be comforting.
A zombified version of Iron Man crawls out of Tony's grave and Peter scrambles to get away.
Peter flinched back, violently, not having expected that. It looked like something that came straight out of a nightmare or one of those monster movies he loved to watch with Ned.
"Oh my god." Pepper gasped, hand coming up to cover her mouth, thinking she might be sick, looking at that.
A spider crawls out of Iron Man's eye socket, it's eyes turning into Mysterios.
"That's disgusting." Carol grimaced.
Mysterio says Peter knows he's right deep down. Peter tries to run, only to find himself trapped in a snowglobe with buildings coming up from the ground, forming Manhattan, NY.
The snowglobe is Mysterio's helmet. Mysterio says Peter made his choice and all he needed to do was step aside.
"I not so sure I can do that anymore." Peter said. He can't step aside and let Mysterio continue on with... this. He can't, not when he knows he can do something about it.
Mysterio takes the helmet off and goes to say something else but he gets shot by 'Fury' The illusions fade. SHIELD agents keep their guns aimed at Mysterio.
Natasha narrowed her eyes. That was convenient. Too convenient. This is probably just another part of his illusions. Shewondered if Fury was an illusion too... or if it was something else. It would certainly explain the odd behaviors. He looks like Fury and talks like Fury even acts just as Fury would, but there's something distinctly not Fury there.
'Fury' walks toward Peter and tells him that they're trying to round up everyone who could expose Mysterio and continuously demands Peter tell him who he told until Peter finally caves, revealing that Ned and MJ know and Ned may have told Betty.
"Peter, I would never do that." Ned said. He and Betty doo seem awfully close. Attacked at the hip even, but he values Peter's friendship too much to spill secrets that aren't his to tell. Especially Spider-Man secrets.
"I know you wouldn't, man." Peter said. But his onscreen self seems paranoid- rightfully he might add- and probably just wants to be sure.
Fury calls Peter gullible, says he's smart as a whip but a sucker. Sucker, being said in Mysterio's voice.
"No." Peter groaned. He brought his head to his hands and rested his arms on his knees, frustratedly tugging at his hair. How could he be so stupid!?
'Fury' is revealed to be Mysterio, the illusions come back.
Fury was Beck the entire time. Clint thought. Of course he was. He knew where Peter would show up because he was tracking the projector, and he's not stupid enough not to have figured out who Peter would have taken it to. Beck gave a good performance he'd give him that, but it wasn't that good. At least not to a group of spies, it wasn't.
Mysterio tells him his friends have to die.
Peter backs away from Mysterio as pieces of debris from the illusion fall on him. Mysterio says it's easy to fool people who are already fooling themselves and says for what it's worth he is sorry.
"You'll have to excuse me if I refuse to believe that." May said. Mysterio is not sorry for a single thing he's doing. If he were, he'd stop.
The illusion stops, Peter finds himself standing on train tracks. He doesn't have time to move before the train hits him.
May felt her heart sink to the floor thousands of thoughts invading her mind, eyes clouded in fear/dread/rage No no no no no not Peter, please don't let him be dead. He can't be. She can't loose him too.
"Peter!" Ned gasped, feeling like his heart leapt into his throat.
Mysterio tells EDITH to access the files from Parker's class trip because he needs them to fly home from London.
Peter crawls up from the side of the train and manages to get himself inside and to a seat before starts coughing and he passes out.
May sagged against her seat and sighed in relief. At least he wasn't dead.
